Fuel consumption per 100 km UAZ 469: Gasoline and propane (gas)

It's no secret that fuel consumption on any UAZ is quite high, and the UAZ 469 is one of the most voracious models. Even according to official factory data, fuel consumption per 100 km. for the UAZ 469 it ranges from 12.9 to 17.5 liters, depending on the engine model and mode of use.

Gasoline consumption UAZ 469 carburetor

First of all, gasoline consumption on a UAZ depends on the installed engine model. From 1972 to 1985, the UMZ-451 MI engine was installed on the UAZ 469. Its consumption, declared by the manufacturer, was 15.1 liters in the city, 12.9 liters on the highway and 14.2 liters in mixed mode.

Since 1985, UMZ-4178.10 engines began to be installed on the UAZ 469. Their declared consumption in the city: 17.5 liters, on the highway: 14.3 and in mixed mode: 16.0 liters.

It should be noted that all this data provided by the manufacturer is highly averaged and, as a rule, does not correspond to the real state of affairs.

Firstly, the fuel consumption of the UAZ 469, like any other car, depends on the stage of its life cycle. So, for a new car undergoing run-in, fuel consumption will differ significantly, because... parts undergo grinding. Over time, consumption normalizes, and as the machine ages and parts wear out, it increases again.

In addition to the car's mileage, fuel consumption per 100 km. The actual operating conditions also influence it. Especially if we are talking about a UAZ, which is usually intended to be used in conditions that are not very vehicle-friendly. The quality of the road surface (or, in general, the fact of its existence) can affect driving style and, accordingly, gas consumption. The second important factor is the operation of the car in conditions of low temperatures, at which additional heating of the engine is required, as a result of which consumption increases.

Another important factor influencing the gasoline consumption of the UAZ 469 depends directly on its owner - driving style. And, if nothing can be done about the first two circumstances, then, obviously, a moderate and calm driving style will help to some extent reduce the gasoline consumption of your UAZ.

Model description

Production of the UAZ 469 began in 1972; the car replaced the GAZ-69 and immediately gained popularity among users. The features inherent in the car are reliability, unpretentiousness and survivability. Until 1985, the design did not undergo changes, after which it was equipped with a new power plant. Production continued until 2003, when it was replaced by the UAZ-315195 modification.

Gasoline consumption of UAZ 469 after tuning

A separate topic for consideration is the fuel consumption of the UAZ 469 in various modifications, including after tuning. because Many owners make changes to the design features of their cars: increasing ground clearance, which affects the change in the standard center of gravity, installing heavier wheels of increased diameter, and much more: all this necessarily affects fuel consumption. Therefore, when planning any modifications to your UAZ (or purchasing an already tuned copy), be sure to keep in mind that all this will definitely have a greater impact on gasoline consumption.

But the installation of military or civilian bridges on a UAZ, in the absence of other modifications, as a rule, does not significantly affect gasoline consumption.

Specifications

Article 188 of the Labor Code states that when an employee uses personal property with the consent or knowledge of the employer and in his interests, the employee is paid compensation for the use, wear and tear, depreciation and amortization of tools, personal vehicles, equipment and other technical means and materials belonging to the employee, as well as reimbursement of expenses associated with their use. Such an easy upgrade may include replacing the wheels with a larger size, optimally 31 inches, as well as remodeling the interior according to the personal wishes of the car owner.

How to reduce fuel consumption on a UAZ 469

Unfortunately, there is no universal “pill” for reducing fuel consumption. There are no standard recommendations or specific modifications that will reduce consumption by 100 km. up to 10l. or less, however, compliance with certain measures will, to some extent, reduce the amount of fuel consumed:

  • Carry out preventative maintenance more often. CO regulation can provide up to 4% consumption savings;
  • Regular replacement of the air filter and oxygen sensor - up to 10%;
  • Change your oil in a timely manner. This will allow you to win another 1-2%
  • If possible, do not keep the engine idling for long periods of time.
  • Maintain an optimal speed limit of 90 km/h. Remember that acceleration to 120 km/h will lead to a very significant increase in consumption.
  • Connecting the front axle only makes sense if necessary. And in the opposite situation it will lead to an increase in fuel consumption.
  • Control the load on the vehicle. Remember that every 30 kg of additional weight of luggage and equipment adds about 2% to standard fuel consumption. And luggage placed on the roof worsens aerodynamics and increases consumption by an additional 5% or even more.
  • Transmission

    In order to establish general requirements for the operation of motor vehicles and special equipment on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, it is determined that the attached Rules can be used by all individuals and legal entities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, regardless of their form of ownership. Ground clearance of a UAZ 3909 Bukhanka car is the minimum distance between the supporting surface and the lowest point of the car, for example, engine protection.

    Gas consumption on UAZ 469

    A common solution for reducing the UAZ 469 fuel budget is not to reduce the consumption itself, but to transfer the vehicle to gas equipment. The estimated gas consumption for the UAZ 469 is slightly higher than gasoline, however, due to the lower cost of fuel, it is possible to beat the price.

    As an example, let's calculate the savings per 100 km. when using gas.

    Relatively realistic gasoline consumption is 18 l/100 km. Gas - 19.8 l./100 km. Estimated cost of a liter of gasoline at the time of writing: 41.29 rub./liter. Propane price - 22.99 rub./lit.

    Thus, it is not difficult to calculate that 100 km. on gasoline it will cost about 745 rubles. The same distance can be covered with gas equipment for approximately 455 rubles.

    Installation of gas equipment

    Despite the age of the car, the model is still popular today, uniting fans.

    • Simplicity of design and ease of repair;
    • Passability and adaptation to difficult conditions;
    • Reliable motor with a long service life;
    • Reliable body and frame;
    • Unpretentiousness to fuel.

    Option for installing a cylinder on a UAZ-469:

    Considering that a simple user is not able to influence the design of the unit to reduce fuel consumption, the only way is to switch the car to gas. Despite the fact that gas consumption on a UAZ 469 will be higher compared to gasoline, the price of fuel is lower and there will be an overall economic benefit. Route, (l)14,314,8
    Mixed, (l)16,017,0

    As can be seen from the table, gas consumption on the UAZ-469 is higher than gasoline. However, it is worth considering that gas is two times cheaper. In total, savings when installing gas equipment will be 42% for every 100 km. In addition, the positive thing is that when running on gas, a properly tuned engine is subject to less wear. This happens due to the clean combustion of the fuel charge (compared to gasoline) and less slag sediment in the oil.

    Installing gas will also have a positive effect on the car’s autonomous mileage when fully refueled with both types of fuel. The distance traveled will double, and accordingly the need for refueling will decrease.

    As for the use of methane, gas is cheaper than propane, but it is not advisable to install equipment on old engines. This is due to the characteristics of the gas and combustion indicators.

    A UAZ minibus with a length of about 4.9 m has two single-leaf doors on the sides of the body, one double-leaf at the back, and the number of passenger seats from 4 to 9. We do everything the same as in the previous version, but we understand that it is impossible to stretch the wire stuffing normally, that it will be deformed and will not seal properly; we do not remove the packing from the upper part of the cage, but instead try to compact it through a suitable spacer, tamping it from the ends; for the lower part of the holder, we cut the padding with allowances equal to the notches formed in the upper holder with an overlap of an additional 2-3 mm; We collect; We make sure that it is flowing; We redo it as expected.

    Front and rear axle

    The UMZ-417 engine is another step in the evolution of the GAZ-21 engine, replacing the UMZ-414 engine, from which it differs by an increased compression ratio from 6.7 to 7, a different camshaft, enlarged intake valves to 47mm (was 44mm), old exhaust valves of 36mm, a two-chamber carburetor installed , another air filter. In later modifications, a crankshaft from UMZ-421 without packing was used. Comparing our motor with the 402 engine from ZMZ, it becomes clear that these are absolutely identical motors and their differences are very cosmetic: on the first 417 blocks there are no stiffeners, the liners do not sit so rigidly, the flywheel is larger than on the 402, the principle of operation of the system cooling is turned upside down. The differences in power are caused by a different exhaust manifold and exhaust valves of smaller diameter (36mm, versus 39mm); in the latest version of the engine, 39mm valves are used. This is where the more or less important differences end.

    Owner reviews

    • Andrey, Perm. I have owned a UAZ 469 for more than 20 years, and I consider it an excellent working option for trips into nature, hunting, and fishing. A high-torque 75-horsepower engine will pull the car out of any arable land when locked, the body is roomy, but comfort has to be neglected. They repair it themselves, and spare parts for the car cost pennies. Fuel consumption in a circle is about 14 liters, this satisfies me.
    • Oleg, Reutov. My UAZ is from 1980, and was in the hands of the military, so it’s better not to talk about the condition in which I received it. I welded the holes in the body myself, rebuilt the chassis and engine. The transmission turned out to be in almost perfect condition, which is surprising. Now this is my permanent assistant on country trips - a reliable, practical, roomy car. On any surface that vaguely resembles a road, consumption is about 11 liters, off-road and in the city 14-15.
    • Dmitry, Kyiv. I'm a fishing enthusiast, so I need a reliable all-weather vehicle with off-road capabilities. On occasion I purchased a UAZ 469, which I am very pleased with. This is not a hill version, but 75 horsepower with an appropriately tuned gearbox is enough to feel confident off-road, in snow and slush. It is true that the cabin is noisy, cold or hot, but a real fisherman does not pay attention to such trifles. Previously, the consumption was 13-14 liters of AI 92 gasoline, I installed gas, my appetite increased to 18 kg per hundred, but for the money it’s just a fairy tale.
    • Alexander, Moscow. I drive around the city in a foreign car, but in the countryside only in a UAZ 469. In my opinion, this is one of the best cars with off-road technical characteristics. What’s interesting is that the 2.5 engine is not very powerful, but very high-torque, you can’t accelerate it on the highway, but you can’t stop it off-road, it rushes like a tank on any surface. Consumption of 12-13 liters per hundred suits me, I fill it with AI 92.
    • Sergey, Rostov region. For the village where I live, the UAZ 469 is simply irreplaceable transport. A versatile car with high cross-country ability will take you to the city, mushroom hunting, fishing or hunting. Particularly attractive is the moderate fuel consumption, according to my measurements, on average about 12 liters per hundred.

    Features of the UMZ 4178 power unit

    Today, Russian roads are full of foreign SUVs. However, experienced drivers remember very well the domestic UAZ-469 jeep, popularly affectionately called the “bobby”. He didn’t care about the off-road conditions familiar to many regions of our country. This article is a certain tribute to the heroic past of the Russian automotive industry, a kind of nostalgia for bygone times.

    Soviet engineers showed remarkable talent, taking into account all the difficult operating conditions on far from perfect domestic roads when creating the UAZ-469. Further information is devoted to the power unit that powers this vintage Russian SUV.
