TATRA PHOENIX (Tatra Phoenix): description and types of truck

History of appearance

In the 2000s, the global automotive industry developed a tendency to absorb small manufacturers by larger ones with solid financial resources.

By 2010, Tatra was already ready to go under the wing of a serious car manufacturer. As a result, Tatra and DAF merged.

For fifteen months, a joint group of designers and constructors developed a new truck. The result of their efforts is TATRA PHOENIX.

The engineers took the unique Tatra frame as a basis. This is the so-called spine structure. The basis is a pipe made of spring steel.

It has high strength characteristics and is resistant to torsion. Thanks to this pipe, the propulsion system and transmission are reliably protected. Considering that these are mainly quarry vehicles, such protection is a big plus for the car.

The heaviest units are installed on this base - the internal combustion engine, gearbox and transfer case. A subframe for the cab and body, as well as split axles with independent suspension, are attached to the pipe. The axle shafts on the bridges are swinging. This increases the vehicle's maneuverability over difficult terrain.

The main difference from previous Czech-made models is the DAF CF85 cab in a daytime version and with a sleeping bag. There are comfortable soft seats inside. The driver has an air-suspended seat, adjustable in all directions.

The dashboard is very similar to that of a passenger car. It is made of high quality soft plastic. The only difference is that under the right hand there is a handle for an additional two-speed gearbox and buttons for disabling the differentials.

The engine has changed. Now Phoenix engines are equipped with American-made PACCAR MX diesel engines in four modifications, with power ranging from 360 to 510 hp. With.

Currently, versions of the Phoenix are available that have all-wheel drive with two, three, four and even five axles. Accordingly, these are cars with wheel formulas 4x4, 6x6, 8x6, 8x8.

By special order, trucks with a 10x10, 10x8 or 10x6 wheel configuration can be manufactured.

Moreover, they will have a controlled fifth axle. This significantly increases the maneuverability and maneuverability of the Tatra.

The main modifications are trucks with replaceable dump bodies of various carrying capacity.

Mining dump truck Tatra Phoenix 10×10

A mining dump truck is a new direction with wheeled cargo vehicles, the task of which is to transport pre-loosened rock mass from the face to a dump, or to transport ore for enrichment. The name comes from the word Mining - MINING. But a “mining” type dump truck is the result of the constant development and generation of wheeled vehicles, the movement of which from dump trucks for general work to mining dump trucks followed the path of understanding experience. As a result, a mining type dump truck is a classic multi-axle dump truck, reinforced and adapted for heavy work, including the ability to work in steeply inclined deep quarries and deliver rock mass over a considerable distance. Like any Tatra Phoenix T158-8P6R56.261 10×10 dump truck, the design of the vehicle consists of two parts, a dump body and a self-propelled pneumatic chassis. The dump truck's load capacity is 40 tons.

The dump platform from the manufacturer VS-MONT with one-sided unloading and a rear side has a volume of 23.5 cubic meters. A special feature of the body is the use of a V-shaped steel box, in the form of a cone with inclined sides. This body shape has the advantages of straight walls due to its simple shape, and at the same time resists impact loads when large pieces of stone are loaded into the body due to the obliquely directed impact of falling stones. The body is welded from high-strength and wear-resistant steel HARDOX HB450, with a floor thickness of 8 mm, plus sides with a thickness of 5 mm. The bottom has a W-shaped profile with a multi-layer structure. The dump truck body is made using quarry body technology and has reinforced transverse and longitudinal box-shaped reinforcements. The dump body is lifted by two telescopic hydraulic cylinders, supported on the outer part of the dump truck frame and supported at the upper end of the body. This arrangement of the lift solves the problem of rigidity of the raised body in the transverse plane. The hydraulic lifting system ensures high lifting speed of a 40-ton body in 25 seconds. Lowering the body takes 16 seconds. The dump dumper has a tailgate with a reliable mechanical system with a lever opening mechanism and locking locks. The body is heated by exhaust gases, and 70% of its surface is heated. To speed up unloading, the platform was given a special conical shape. The dump body has a special strength and protective structure, which extends forward of the body to ensure the safety of the driver from falling stones. The capabilities of the body allow the use of a dump truck for mining operations for the extraction of non-metallic minerals, which include minerals, rocks, shale, oil, tar, coal, and other types of fossil fuels (combustive minerals). The dump body is also used in general dumping work and is used for transporting sand, pebbles, crushed stone, gravel, sandstone, clay, chalk.

The chassis carrier Tatra Phoenix 10×10 has a classic Tatra layout, which is based on a high-strength backbone frame, inside which the wheel drive shaft passes. The backbone frame has extremely high torsional rigidity, which allows unloading not only on level areas, but also where the dump truck is parked at a significant angle. The chassis has five axles with all-wheel drive on all wheels using an axle formula of 10x10. All-wheel drive is combined with an independent suspension with swing axles. The axles have an independent torsion bar suspension on the front wheels and springs on the rear bogie, without balancers. The tires of the Tatra 10x10 dump truck are single-pitch, with a single-row arrangement on 16.00 R20 tires.

The Tatra Phoenix five-axle dump truck is equipped with a powerful 12.9-liter PACCAR MX13 engine producing 510 hp.
Maximum torque - 2500 Nm. The dump truck has a special gearbox for heavy quarry work - a fully automatic hydromechanical 7-speed Allison with a built-in intarder. Buy

TATRA PHOENIX Euro 6 dump truck: reliability in every detail

Czech truck manufacturer TATRA TRUCKS presented the TATRA PHOENIX Euro 6 on the proven Tatra chassis, which uses powerful, economical and at the same time environmentally friendly PACCAR MX engines.

The unique chassis design does not require additional installation of an auxiliary frame for attaching bodies, installation of other superstructures is simple without the use of compensating mounting parts. The independent axle suspension with air suspension allows for increased transport speed and therefore overall transport capacity.

For safe movement across the field, the vehicle is equipped with locks on all axles and cross-axle differentials. With plug-in front axle drive, you can enjoy all the benefits of a four-wheel drive vehicle when the environment demands it.

When driving on roads or paved roads, driving without front-wheel drive will allow the vehicle to operate more efficiently. The air system on the chassis is now electronically controlled, which optimizes air flow and compressor operation, thereby helping to reduce fuel consumption.

The TATRA PHOENIX model range uses modern, powerful and economical PACCAR MX engines. In accordance with legal requirements, we supply engines with Euro 3, Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission ratings.

TATRA PHOENIX Euro 6 trucks offer an even wider selection of gearboxes from the well-known brands ZF and Allison, which work perfectly with powerful and economical PACCAR engines. ZF manual transmissions are represented by the EcoSplit series - for vehicles of the TATRA PHOENIX series, exclusively 16-speed.

For anyone who prefers easier vehicle control, the 16-speed AsTronic automated transmission is available, which is suitable for all operations when drivers change behind the wheel of the vehicle. This helps reduce fuel consumption and protects the clutch and the engine itself from damage due to driver error.

Customers who require seamless torque delivery throughout the entire drivetrain can use Allison's 6- and 7-speed automatic transmissions, which replace the conventional clutch with a fluid-dynamic converter.

The new TATRA PHOENIX Euro 6 cab supplied by DAF TRUCKS provides more space, comfort and safety. The driver's workplace is comfortable both due to the comfortable seats and the general location of the controls. Cabs in Euro 3 and 5 versions differ in appearance, but driver comfort and workplace ergonomics are at a high level.
