DAF HF 95 technical characteristics, design and operation, photo, price

The DAF XF 95 is the third generation of heavy-duty tractors, which debuted in the fall of 2002 (the DAF 95 family itself debuted in 1987). Soon after its appearance, the car won second place in the “Truck of the Year in Europe” competition, and was later recognized as a bestseller in many countries around the world.

Among the advantages of DAF HF 95 are:

  • maximum operating comfort for the driver;
  • variety of wheel shapes and reliability of design;
  • long service life and the ability to work for a long time in extreme conditions;
  • the total declared mileage of trouble-free operation is up to 1.5 million kilometers;
  • simple saddle type design.

DAF 95 tractors appeared on the Russian market later than other brands. The scarcity of data on the brand and the lack of official service centers did not contribute to the growth in the popularity of cars. In Europe the situation was different. The DAF market share was at 10.6%. In the domestic market (in the Netherlands), the popularity of the model was prohibitive - more than 35%. The demand for Dutch tractors in Russia began to grow by the beginning of the 2000s (the most popular were models with a unit capacity of 430 and 480 “horses”). Moreover, used versions were more attractive to consumers.

Currently, DAF XF 95 trucks are not segment leaders, since no major updates have been carried out since the start of production. The production of these cars ended in 2007, but today they demonstrate high reliability and functionality.

General information

The DAF XF 95 is a new family of trucks. However, the history of the series began in 1987. Then the Dutch brand presented the debut truck 95. In appearance and technical characteristics, it differed little from the models of that time. For the DAF brand, the model has become the flagship of the lineup. The first car 95 was positioned as a tractor intended for constant travel, designed for an annual mileage of over 150,000 km.

The design of the debut truck is again quite classic. The model was equipped with a large cabover operator’s cabin with “stripes” of the radiator grille, a huge brand inscription on the front and a bumper with standard headlights.

Despite its unassuming appearance, the car turned out to be very successful and was in stable demand on the world market. Thanks to significant sales, the Dutch brand has firmly established itself in the European car market.

DAF decided to modernize the tractor only in 1997. Then the premiere of an improved variation of the truck took place. In order not to confuse generations, the developers added additional markings to the name. Now the operator's cabin was decorated with the inscription 95 XF, meaning “extra forte” (“to the fullest”). With such a designation, the manufacturer decided to show the power and character of the truck. In the 1990s, the first Dutch cars appeared on the Russian car market. special equipment had a high cost, which immediately limited its distribution. However, the cars did not disappoint the owners and eventually paid for themselves quite quickly.

Soon, new versions of the DAF 95 XF appeared with an incredibly spacious Super Space Cab. The driver and passengers in it could move without bending over. The salon accommodated 2 berths connected by a staircase. One “sleeping bag” was accompanied by a folding structure made on the principle of carriage shelves.

The internal component has also undergone modifications. The greatest changes affected the motor range. Initially, the DAF 95 HF was offered with 12.7-liter engines with a power of 381-483 hp, but later 14-liter units with a power of up to 530 hp, corresponding to Euro-2, appeared in the line. The engine itself has also undergone global modernization. It was adapted to new conditions (metric system and 24 V instead of 12 V used in American versions). But the pickiness of the engines remained, which negatively affected the work of tractors in Russia. The engine running on domestic fuel was unstable.

In general, the successful design and high quality of finishing provided the new product with an additional audience.

In 2002, the tractor was updated again and changed its name to DAF XF 95. Only the XF designation was left on the radiator grille. The new product could be distinguished by a redesigned radiator grille with beveled edges that replaced the vertical edges. The side deflectors received an elongated aerodynamic shape, making them more efficient (the predecessor had shorter deflectors). The headlights were made narrower, and an additional opening was added to the plastic headlight casing to improve the airflow of the lower stage.

There are even more technical changes. The DAF HF 95 was built on a fundamentally new chassis with modernized Euro-3 power plants with increased torque. In the “minimum” version, the tractor was equipped with an advanced 16-speed ZF Servoshift manual gearbox.

Another important change was the ability to run on low-quality fuel. The latest DAF XF 95 series was created with an eye to working in Eastern Europe and the former CIS countries, which are characterized by unfavorable road and climatic conditions and undeveloped service networks. The developers tried to make the tractor as repairable as possible. According to this indicator, the DAF HF 95 practically caught up with MAZ and KamAZ cars, and an experienced driver could repair Dutch equipment right on the highway.

The DAF XF 95 was intended for transporting heavy loads over long distances. The developers paid increased attention to comfortable operating conditions. The model could work in any conditions and was distinguished by increased functionality. Due to these properties, even with high mileage, many consumers preferred the Dutch tractor.

History and brief description of the model

The design of the car (especially the first generation DAF XF 95) really turned out to be quite laconic and unpretentious: a massive bumper and a radiator grille with classic stripes. The restyled versions already looked more interesting, although they also did not shine with any particularly elegant or “breakthrough” design.

In Europe, this model made competitors worry - if not for the high price tag, it could well be ahead of everyone in terms of sales in its segment. In Russia and the CIS, the DAF XF 95 is one of the leaders in the secondary market for heavy commercial equipment made in Europe. There have been no new trucks of this model for a long time: it was discontinued in 2007. It was replaced by the new flagship of the DAF company - DAF XF105.

The DAF XF 95 43O diesel engine provides stable operation even on diesel fuel of not very good quality: it is undemanding to the quality of diesel fuel. This ability to operate the truck even when refueling with low-quality fuel is an important competitive advantage of the DAF XF95 for domestic operators. Also, in conditions of poorly developed service centers and non-ideal road and climatic conditions, the truck performed very well. In terms of maintainability, this vehicle is only slightly inferior to simple domestic KamAZ and MAZ trucks.

The design of the truck of this model is based on the simplest and most popular 4x2 wheel arrangement - a two-axle chassis with rear axle drive. There are also three-axle versions of the DAF XF 95 (with a “lazy axle”), but they are much less common. The demand for Dutch tractors of this model in Russia began to grow in the early 2000s. The most popular option was the one with a power unit with a capacity of 430 horsepower. The name XF stands for “Extra Forte” - so to speak, “to the fullest.” (In total, in the traditional DAF production program there are three main families, divided by total weight: LF (Levis Forte), CF (Compact Forte) and XF (Extra Forte).

Main technical parameters

The main function of the vehicle is to tow trailers and platforms. The truck of this model is fully adapted to the requirements of traction transport vehicles. The powerful power potential of the Daf also allows it to transport various loads over long distances. The machine is designed for long-term operation (with a mileage of up to 200,000 km per year).

Technical specifications Daf 95xf

The technical characteristics of the DAF XF 95 make the truck one of the most popular vehicles on European roads. The product of the Dutch Daf brand is still poorly represented in Russia, but many Russian drivers have already managed to evaluate the technical parameters and advantages of the foreign truck model.

This truck is 7.6 m long, 2.4 m wide, 2.4 m high. It has fairly large dimensions: the total weight of the tractor and trailer is 40,000 kg. The truck can reach speeds of up to 95 km/h. Fuel consumption has an average of 35 liters per 100 km. The volume of the fuel tank is 1000 l.

Car transmission

The vehicle's transmission is characterized by high reliability and durability. If used correctly, transmission oil can be changed every 90,000 microns. The daf xf95 tractor unit is characterized by unique options. Among the most important are:

  • The gearbox has 12 steps;
  • There is a Hill Start Aid function. This is a special auxiliary system that operates at the very beginning of movement and at a fairly large angle;
  • The gearbox is equipped with direct transmission.

Such auxiliary systems of the DAF 95 XF make the process of driving a vehicle as comfortable as possible, even in the most difficult operating conditions.

The transmission perfectly copes with the harsh operating conditions of the 95 xf; it can be lifted without any problems when the truck is heavily loaded. In winter, when the roads are covered with snow and ice, this is an important and advantageous feature.

Features of components

The endurance and large load capacity of the DAF XF 95 can be explained by the power of the individual mechanisms of the vehicle. Most of these cars were equipped with an American Paccar and Cummins engine, but since 2000, models have been equipped with a powerful XE390C engine.

DAF XE390C1 530/EUR-3 XF

The engine of the latest model has a number of advantages over other diesel units. A four-stroke diesel engine using exhaust gas energy can effectively increase the power of a truck without excessive rotation of the crankshaft. At a crankshaft speed of 950 rpm, the engine power is 157 kW.

The DAF XF 95 engine is equipped with an Upec automatic injection system. Liquid fuel is sprayed alternately into each of the 6 cylinders of the engine, which facilitates complete recycling of the fuel. The content of harmful substances in a diesel engine is regulated in accordance with the international environmental standard Euro-3.

The truck's transmission is a classic 16-speed ZF AS manual transmission system. The hydraulic drive with a pneumatic booster consists of a clutch pedal with a spring. The machine is equipped with front suspensions - shock absorbers that absorb pressure and provide stability when moving. The rear suspension is represented by the ECAS pneumatic system.

Gearbox ZF AS

The basic DAF XF 95 has drum brakes, and modified versions have an electrically controlled disc brake system. The most common wheel arrangement of this truck is 6×2. Truck tires of size 295/80 R 22.5 are installed on the vehicle.

Features of operation

This car is lightweight and easy to maintain. If malfunctions occur while driving, the driver is able to independently adjust the work process. The ergonomic location of the engine compartment allows the driver to inspect the condition of the components of the DAF XF 95.

Daf 95xf - maintenance

At different stages of the mileage, it is recommended to replace some parts for further uninterrupted operation of the machine. At a mileage of 400,000 km, it is recommended to replace the brake system (to avoid its final wear). Some domestic roads are extreme driving environments with high levels of dust. Therefore, the moisture separator and air filter also need to be replaced during each seasonal maintenance.

Daf 95xf - brake system maintenance

Low quality fuel also brings its own rules to the maintenance regime for the DAF XF 95 truck. Low quality diesel fuel wears out the engine prematurely, which results in systematic failures. The machine can be protected from such defects by regularly updating the filters. It is recommended to change the oil filter at 45,000 km, and fuel filters after 25,000 km.

Changing your truck's oil filter regularly will increase engine life.

Proper and timely care of your Daf will help extend its life and reduce the frequency of technical inspections. With proper maintenance, the truck can travel up to 700,000 km.

Reliability

The car engine requires service every 200 thousand kilometers, the total resource of the internal combustion engine is 1.5 million kilometers. In case of breakdowns on the road, the driver can use hydraulics to tilt the cab and repair everything himself.

You shouldn’t overheat the gearbox clutch; you’ll have to replace it completely as a set, and that’s not cheap. The clutch runs 800 thousand kilometers in quiet mode. The XF 95's suspension is also extremely reliable, as long as you don't constantly drive into potholes. With adequate driving, it can withstand 600 thousand kilometers, after which it undergoes a major overhaul.

If you have a car with disc brakes, then it is better not to drive into puddles, this will reduce their service life. Factory wheels last 400 thousand kilometers and then require replacement. By installing non-original discs, you will get uneven wear and quick replacement. Other companies cannot make similar brakes more cheaply.

DAF XF 95 oil filters need to be changed every 45 thousand kilometers, fuel filters are replaced after 25 thousand. The air filter is changed as often as possible.

Production of the tractor was completed in 2007, so there is no way to purchase a new car. There are many options on the secondary market with a price tag from 1 million to 2 million rubles.

The DAF HF 95 is a very reliable vehicle, which is why, despite its age, it can be purchased for business. Yes, a used one will need to be serviced more often, but the initial cost is significantly less than its new classmates.

Truck modifications

The basic model of the DAF XF 95 was released back in 1987. Since then, the sought-after truck has undergone many technical changes. The initial version of the truck was equipped with 2 types of driver's cabins: SuperSpaceCab (a spacious cabin with sleeping shelves, 2.5 m high) and SpaceCab (a mid-size cabin designed within acceptable comfort requirements).

An improved version of the driver's cabin was equipped with a special gearbox, which significantly reduced the driver's efforts when driving the truck. Another component of the machine that has been replaced many times during the life of the basic version of the DAF XF 95 is the engine. Engine power increased, reaching 410–530 hp. With.

The chassis became the main load-bearing element, which the developers also did not ignore. The Daf model range is represented by the following combinations:

  • wheel formula – 6×2, weight – 26 tons;
  • wheel arrangement – 6×4, weight – 26.5 tons;
  • wheel formula – 8×2, weight – 35.5 tons;
  • wheel formula – 8×4, weight – 32 tons.

In 2005, an updated model of the DAF XF 105 truck was produced. Not only the technical capabilities of the engine and overall traction were improved, but also the internal and external design of the vehicle.

The DAF XF 95 is equipped with an economical engine that consumes only 34 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km of road. The truck's fuel tank holds up to 1000 liters of fuel, which allows cargo transportation over long distances.

Appearance of DAF HF 95

The design of the tractor has changed over time; the first modification is unlikely to catch your eye, but the newer models look nice. The muzzle has attractive elements that provide functionality - aerodynamics and cooling.

The large radiator grille is made of black plastic with horizontal holes. At the bottom there is an oval halogen optic with fog lights underneath it. The headlights are powerful, there will be no problems with visibility at night.

The profile of the DAF XF 95 hoodless tilt cab is predominantly straight. There is a staircase with huge steps for easy access inside. Massive rear-view mirrors leave virtually no blind spots.

The “bangs” on the windshield help in the summer, protecting from the sun's rays. The step on the radiator grill makes it easy to clean the windshield.

The 95 tractor received a chrome “XF” nameplate in 2002 and changed its design accordingly. The radiator grille was changed, the foglights became round, and the side deflectors were extended.

ENGINE

The DAF HF 95 series is equipped exclusively with diesel engines of the American brand PACCAR, the production of which is carried out at the company's main plant in the Netherlands. This choice is due to the fact that the DAF brand has been the property of the PACCAR concern since 1996.

The engines are equipped with a UPEC injection system, which has injectors with electronically controlled pumps, thereby increasing the environmental friendliness and operating efficiency of the power plant. The units that come with the DAF XF 95 series comply with Euro-3 environmental requirements. The first versions of the series are equipped with liquid pre-heaters, later variations are equipped with autonomous heaters with a tank heating function.

For the DAF HF 95, units with a displacement of 12.7 and 14 liters are available. The range of available powers is from 381 to 530 hp, the torque range is from 1750 to 2100 Nm. The engine power can be easily determined by the model name (DAF XF 95.480 is equipped with a 480 horsepower engine). Number of cylinders – 6, cylinder diameter – 130 mm.

PACCAR engines have a long service life - over 1.5 million km. The units confidently withstand the harsh conditions of the Russian winter and low-quality fuel.

  • maximum torque – 1750-2100 Nm (depending on the engine model);
  • cylinder diameter – 130 mm.

Interior video

The model turned out to be successful and was in good demand. Thanks to DAF HF 95, the brand managed to gain a strong foothold in the global market in the 90s. The modification with the additional designation XF was a modernized version of the classic model, the production of which began in 1987.

In the brand's product line, the XF series is considered the main one. Today these trucks are among the best in their class.

The DAF XF 95 is designed for transporting goods over long distances. The manufacturer pays special attention to comfortable working conditions. The car cabin is comfortable and large in size. According to these parameters, it is noticeably superior to its analogues.

"DAF HF 95" can be used in difficult conditions and has increased functionality. That is why domestic consumers prefer this truck even with high mileage.

DEVICE

The DAF HF 95 is rightfully considered one of the most reliable heavy-duty vehicles. The model is based on a durable frame that can support maximum weight. Some versions have a reinforced frame. Additional strength is achieved by increasing the thickness of the profile in the frame.

Chassis

The chassis of the DAF XF 95 is both simple and reliable. The car is equipped with spring front suspension with anti-roll bar and pneumatic rear suspension with stabilizer and ECAS technology, which allows you to control the suspension mechanisms. Some models with a 6 by 2 wheel configuration are equipped with an additional lift axle. With proper operation and maintenance, the chassis can withstand up to 650 thousand km even on poor quality roads.

In the initial version, the car is equipped with 295/80 R22.5 tires.

Transmission

Most versions of the DAF HF 95 are equipped with a ZF manual transmission, which is a 16-speed Servoshift gearbox with a separator. This transmission has a long service life and ease of control. The gearbox oil must be replaced every 90,000 km. The gear shift lever has a smooth and even move, but is not installed very conveniently and sometimes interferes with normal access to the sleeping area.

The car uses a single-plate clutch with a diaphragm spring and a hydraulic drive with pneumatic booster. The main gear is a single hypoid with differential lock. The DAF XF 95 clutch is considered an expensive element and is designed for 800,000 km. This element does not respond well to a partially depressed pedal, overload, and does not like frequent activation during slipping. The resource during such operation can be reduced by 50-60%. When replacing a clutch, it is recommended to buy the entire assembly.

Optionally for the DAF HF 95, 12- and 16-speed automatic transmissions ZF AS Tronic are available (gear ratio - 3.31). These gearboxes are more expensive and less reliable, but significantly increase the level of comfort in driving the machine and the service life of the unit due to precise shifting. Models with automatic transmissions traditionally enjoy low popularity among Russian consumers.

Brake system

Old modifications of the DAF 95 were equipped with drum brakes with rear hydraulic accumulators, an ABS system and a separate pneumatic drive. Since 2000, all versions have been equipped with electronically controlled ventilated disc brakes. The brakes act on the wheels of the front and rear axles. The brake efficiency of the DAF XF 95 has increased, and the service life is 45,000 km. It was recommended to replace the elements exclusively with original ones, since otherwise the service life would be sharply reduced. The latest models also get an EBS system with increased efficiency.

Cabin

The DAF HF 95 is equipped with a cabin with a spacious sleeping compartment, allowing you to travel for a long time without stress. The vehicle is standard equipped with a SpaceCab type cabin with a medium roof. In this configuration, the cabin height is 1885 mm. The internal dimensions allow you to move freely and not feel constrained in your movements.

An optional SuperSpaceCab cabin is available, which in terms of comfort is an order of magnitude higher than the basic version. The cabin height in this case is 2255 mm. The possibilities of this cabin are enormous - you can steer, stretch, stretch and move freely in it. The size of the beds is impressive. The bottom shelf is 810 mm wide and 2030 mm long. The width of the top shelf is 600 or 700 mm, length – 1910 or 2050 mm. Under the bottom place there is a spacious drawer for things. In its place you can install a small refrigerator or microwave.

All DAF HF 95 cabs have air suspension, which eliminates any vibrations. However, it does not tolerate long-term vibrations well, so it is more suitable for European roads. The air suspension may become unusable after 200-250 thousand km. The repair kit will save you from problems only for 1-2 years; the ideal option would be a complete replacement of the suspension, which will require considerable expenses.

Cabin interior

Everything inside is made with high quality, good materials are used, of course there is no leather, but it’s still nice. The DAF XF 95 has two seats with mechanical adjustments, there are berths, the lower one is 810 mm wide and the upper one is 600 mm wide. There is space to install a microwave.

There are several cabin options - SpaceCab and SuperSpaceCab. In the first version, the cabin height is 1885 mm, in the second it is 2255 mm.

The driver gets a 2-spoke steering column with adjustments in several directions. The instrument panel turned out to be simple, but it contains enough information. 6 classic dial gauges are installed with a large monitor of the DAF HF 95 on-board computer. The radio and air conditioning washers are turned towards the driver - for ergonomics correctly.

To the right of the driver is a classic gear selector, behind which is the parking brake lever. Even further to the right is a huge armrest with a table and two deep cup holders.

There is enough free space, it is pleasant to be inside. Tall windows provide greater visibility and safety, respectively. The cabin is installed on air springs, because of this the unevenness of Russian roads is not felt.

Design

The vehicle is a representative of trucks. Despite the fact that its main distribution occurred in the Soviet Union, most truckers prefer to use the Daf XF 95. The design of the car does not differ greatly from its predecessors.

Exterior

The appearance of the vehicle is not pretentious. The first modernization of the vehicle took place in 1997. To avoid confusion, the creators had to adjust the labeling. Now the Daf car is decorated with the inscription 95 XF. The abbreviation means "to the fullest."

In appearance, almost every car is white, equipped with a large-sized cabin, with a missing hood. There is a radiator grille mounted at the front. During the initial inspection of the car, a bumper with markings catches your eye. The mirrors and headlights are harmoniously matched and also large in size.

The advantage of the modernized model is the installed ladder, which helps the driver and passenger climb into the cabin. In addition, owners note updated locks that provide increased security. The radiator grille is equipped with special steps that make it easier to wash the impressively sized windshield.

Due to these dimensions, visibility for the driver has increased.

The dimensions of the machine are as follows:

  • length – 7.6 m;
  • width – 2.4 m;
  • height – 2.4 m;
  • wheelbase - 3.6 m.

Interior

Truckers note the functional practicality of the interior. When using a vehicle, you can appreciate the advantages of Euro standards.

Behind the seats there are two spacious shelves designed for drivers to rest. Under the bottom shelf there is a compartment for storing personal items. If desired, this place can be equipped for small household appliances.

Advantages of the car

The DAF XF 95 model is characterized by many modern drivers, both private and professional, as a solid, reliable and highly functional truck. Among the main advantages are:

  1. The wheel formula is a high-quality two-axle chassis with the main drive on the rear axle.
  2. This is a simple and very reliable truck-type tractor.
  3. The car is designed to travel with a total mileage of more than one and a half million kilometers.
  4. Drivers are provided with the most comfortable working conditions.
  5. The car is quite suitable for use in difficult conditions.

Modern DAF 95 tractors are characterized by ideal access to the compartment where the engine is located. You can get to it using special hydraulics, which raises the cabin at a large angle. If you need to fix a problem, you can do it yourself.

Among the activities related to maintenance, one can note the need to replace filters - fuel filters every 25,000 km, oil filters every 40,000 km. After 600,000 km, it is worth replacing the engine pan gasket. In general, with proper operation of the DAF 95 car, without the need to change anything, even after 700,000 km.

Reviews of DAF trucks

DAF XF105. It is also a universal power tractor with Euro 5 class. I like this car better than the MAN TGA despite the fact that the MAN TGA has a cooler interior. The fact is that there are different DAF models with the number of wheels 6-10. That is, having one or two driving axles. They can simply release a DAF with two axles to increase traction, this also serves as a greater carrying capacity of the vehicle. This car has 460 l/s, engine capacity 12.9 liters, length 12.50 m, width 2.85 m, height 4.0 m. Fuel consumption 25 l/100 km. Yes, of course, with such a vehicle width of 2.85, you can’t travel freely in the city of Dneprodzerzhinsk. There are some restrictions on the width of the car, as well as its other dimensions. As everyone knows, the length of the truck together with the trailer should not exceed more than 22 meters.

The volume of the fuel tank on the right side is 800 liters, and on the left side 250 liters. Anti-burglary locks are installed on the fuel tanks. The car cabin can be easily tilted using a hydraulic jack; there is a special push handle for this purpose. What can I say about the interior of the car, almost everything there is the same as in the MAN TGA car, well, maybe a little less technology. DAF XF105 The body shape is slightly different from the Scania truck, but basically they can be confused with the naked eye. The Scania truck has a V-8 engine, which is more powerful than the DAF XF105. The DAF XF 105 with a Pacar Emix 340 engine and a 12-speed ZF Astronik manual transmission also exceeded all my expectations. Both cars of different power and strength qualities were tested.

Made with high quality wheel arch liners made from good high-strength steel, as well as mud flaps made from thick rubber. The seats in the cabin are very comfortable, adjustable seats, not only adjustable in height, but also fixed without shock absorption. At the end of the body there are two spoilers that extend and also retract. This serves to ensure that any trucker can easily climb onto the truck frame. This technique is ideal for any experienced truck driver.
