Main modifications of cars of the GAZ-2752 “Sobol” line
The vehicle of the Sobol line is offered in passenger and cargo body versions. A three-seater van for transporting goods on the GAZ-2752 chassis boasts a standard load capacity of 770 kg. The dimensions of the cargo compartment are 6.86 cubic meters.
The actual loading height of the vehicle is a total of 70 cm. Various types of boxes, product packages, technical equipment and tools can be easily placed inside the van. Additionally, the car allows you to move large objects. The luggage compartment of the Sobol is slightly wider than that of the GAZelle, and the total capacity is also much larger.
Simultaneously with rear-wheel drive car models, vehicles with all-wheel drive, durable and reliable all-metal vehicles, are also being released onto the market. The all-wheel drive Sobol has a long service life and copes with maneuvering on any road surface.

A little about the history of the Sobol family
Serial production of cars of the GAZ-2752 Sobol family started in Nizhny Novgorod in 1998. By that time, the GAZelle had been in mass production for four years already, and it became obvious that the demand for cars of this class, which had not yet been completely mastered by the domestic automobile industry, turned out to be much higher than the wildest assumptions. Therefore, the range of modifications within the family grew; and, in accordance with market requirements, a related family was created - “Sable”.
The UAZ-3727 prototype is one of the “ancestors” of the GAZelle and Sobol.
The design team, under the leadership of Vladimir Chetverikov, relied on both domestic and foreign experience when creating the GAZelle family. In particular, for the promising development of NAMI (Central Research Automobile and Automotive Engine Institute) and UAZ engineers - the all-metal van "UAZ-3727", which did not go into production. Many also point out the more than obvious similarities between the GAZelle and Sobol and the third generation Ford Transit.
“Externally, there really was a common motive,” Vladimir Chetverikov could not help but agree with this analogy, “but this common motive - a half-hood layout - is typical for most cars of this class.”
The frame for all modifications of the Sobol was taken from the GAZelle, with the side members shortened (wall thickness 3.9 mm) and the wheelbase reduced from 2900 to 2760 mm. The all-metal Sobol van GAZ-2752 is a GAZ van shortened by 660 mm.
"Pre-styling" "Sable" of the first generation.
Since the GAZ-2752 Sobol entered the assembly line four years later than the GAZelle, it was not affected by the time of early modernization of the new model - with the replacement of multi-leaf semi-elliptical springs with few-leaf parabolic ones; Spicer drive axle on banjo, cabin reinforcement; fighting the boiling of antifreeze in the radiator already with the arrival of April warmth... We can say that “Sable” was cured of “childhood diseases” even before its appearance.
In 2003, Sobol, like GAZelle, underwent restyling, which significantly updated its appearance and interior. In accordance with the current “automotive fashion”, the tail design was updated, the rectangular headlights were replaced with modern drop-shaped block headlights. The instrument panel in the cockpit has also been updated and radically changed.
In February 2010, the Gorky Automobile Plant began producing a restyled family of this car, under the Sobol-Business brand. The package of modernized components and assemblies of this version is similar to the GAZelle-Business family. “Sobol” is presented in the price list of the Gorky Automobile Plant in a variety of options: an all-metal van or minibus, a flatbed truck or a universal chassis for installing all kinds of superstructures and special equipment.
Selection of transmission, suspension, brake mechanisms GAZ-2752 “Sobol”
Each of the described engines operates with the support of a five-speed mechanical gearbox synchronized with the main mechanism of the unit. The device is connected to the engine using a classic friction clutch supported by a dry design, provided in practice by a hydraulic control drive. Models of the Sobol car with all-wheel drive are specially equipped with an additional locking center differential, as well as an active two-speed gearbox with a transfer mechanism and reduction gear.
Vans from a domestic manufacturer on the GAZ-2752 Sobol platform operate on a frame chassis with increased platform strength. The front part is equipped with an advanced double-wishbone spring suspension with the introduction of gas-filled shock absorbers, as well as stabilizers with support for functional lateral stability. The rear part is represented by a dependent-type spring suspension, which is supported by a pair of longitudinal semi-elliptical springs with the addition of hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers maintaining the principle of double-acting.
The drive axle of Sobol cars differs significantly from that adopted on GAZelle. There are new single-pitch wheels, thinner and longer axle shafts, weakened hubs, and narrow drums. The special steering mechanism of the GAZ-2752 “Sobol” car works with the support of the classic “screw - ball nut” scheme, and is equipped with power steering as standard. The standard equipment of the Sobol is equipped with stable sixteen-inch wheels with a steel base, new halogen optics, and the introduction of an audio preparation system for the interior heating system.
The brake mechanism is equipped with advanced equipment with a dual-circuit hydraulic vacuum booster. There is a new sensor for emergency reduction of brake fluid, as well as an active pressure regulator. The front wheels are equipped with powerful disc braking devices, and the rear wheels are equipped with classic drum brakes.

Characteristics of all-wheel drive Gazelles are given in this article.
Characteristics of the GAZ-2752 Sobol cabin
After the first acquaintance with Sobol cars, experts note that the new dashboard of the vehicle is several times more convenient and practical for everyday use compared to cars of the GAZelle line. At the top there is a functional glove compartment for storing documents and other papers. Adding electronic devices provides a paired cell.
The size of the GAZ-2752 Sobol fully corresponds to the similar parameters of vehicles in the GAZelle line. The interior cabin demonstrates efficient heating thanks to the installed air duct deflectors. The lighting is supported by a special general shade, as well as additional lens lamps that maintain stable lighting in the dark.
Currently, the cost of GAZ-2752 Sobol cars varies in the range of 650 thousand rubles. Used cars of this model are popular among motorists. The price of such options ranges from 150 thousand rubles to 600 thousand rubles. The final cost is influenced by the technical condition of the car, equipment, mileage, presence of modifications, and year of manufacture. A new all-wheel drive model will cost an average of about 1.2 million rubles, depending on the choice of dealer and equipment.
“Sable” and “GAZelle”: briefly about the similarities and differences
“Sobol” became a completely independent development by the engineers of the Gorky Automobile Plant. Despite the obvious similarity with the super popular GAZelle, this is a car of a different class (with a payload of up to 1 ton) and a different specific application. But, of course, there is a lot in common with the GAZelle: the same, unified cabin, engine, gearbox and clutch, as well as headlights, windows, mirrors and door handles.
The differences are as follows: frame with new side members, front suspension (independent double wishbone, pinless, spring, on ball joints); the rear suspension has different springs. In addition, the Sobol has a modernized brake system: the diameter of the front discs is 15 mm larger than that of the GAZelle, and at the rear, since the wheels are not two-wheeled, but single-wheeled, brake drums of a different design are installed. Instead of six wheel mounting studs with M18x1.5 threads and flange nuts, the Sobol has five M14x1.5 pieces for conical, purely “car” nuts (“from Volga”).

The design of the rear cargo part of the van, as well as the interior of the cabin, in the Sobol is more reminiscent of a minivan than a GAZelle and compact trucks in general. Despite the fact that the Sobol van is 66 centimeters shorter in length than the GAZelle, the dimensions of the driver's cabin in the GAZ-2752 remain the same. Access to the rear row of seats is as convenient as possible - through a wide sliding side door. All GAZ-2752 Sobol vehicles are equipped with power steering.
