IVECO vehicles in our country are used for completely different transport work: from minibus taxis to general construction and mining dump trucks; everyone knows not only long-haul truck tractors, but also multi-axle construction vehicles, fire trucks and buses of this Italian brand. This IVECO-AMT 653900 dump truck with a 6x6 wheel arrangement is a representative of a batch of 30 vehicles that will work on the construction of oil pipelines in Eastern Siberia.

Not all IVECO machines are made in Italy. For example, dump trucks of the 682 series are produced in China, minibuses are built en masse in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and special and off-road equipment according to individual specifications is very popular in the Southern Urals in the city of Miass. And what’s interesting is that when it comes specifically to dump truck chassis, German roots are mixed in with the Italian origin. Do you remember how the history of the IVECO-URALAZ joint venture began in 1994? That's right, from the legendary "Magirus". Soon the fairy tale is told, but not soon the deed is done. This is approximately how we could voice our expectations regarding the visit to the Iveco-AMT enterprise in Miass, Chelyabinsk region. However, with the arrival of Massimiliano Perry, brand director of Iveco in Russia and the Republic of Belarus, things surprisingly got off the ground.

In general, thanks to his efforts and the assistance of Fabrizio Cepollina, the head of CNH Industrial in Russia and the Republic of Belarus, we all ended up in Miass at Iveco-AMT LLC. To the reasonable question “why?” one could answer like this. Firstly, this December the company celebrates its 22nd birthday. Secondly, successful activity during a crisis period deserves to tell others how it can be done and, in fact, with what help.

Despite the short duration of the visit, we were able not only to talk with the management of the enterprise and visit the production, but also to test the equipment in action.

ECONOMY

It looks like manufacturers and sellers of commercial cargo equipment will close this year, albeit with a small, but still a plus. In any case, the heavy truck segment expects an increase of 5.7%. Naturally, this is the average temperature in the hospital, but still. Prospects for recovery are on the horizon.

The Iveco brand is expected to close the year with the same result as last year. And that's already good. For 2022, sales are projected to increase by 6%, with the overall truck market expected to grow by 4.8%.

Despite the difficult economic situation in Russia and in the automotive industry, Iveco-AMT LLC maintains a stable operating mode of the enterprise. At the end of 2016, it is planned to sell 391 cars, which is 34% more than in 2015. The average volume of truck production in recent months is 50–60 units. These are mainly vehicles of the heavy model range - Trakker with a 6x6 wheel arrangement (dump trucks, tractors, log carriers), as well as the medium model range - Eurocargo 4x4 in the form of a special chassis. At the same time, it should be noted that the production program for October-November also includes Trakker vehicles with a 6x4 and 8x8 wheel arrangement, Eurocargo - with a 4x2 and 6x6 wheel arrangement.

PRODUCTION

Let us remind you that the company specializes in the design, production and sale of trucks based on the Iveco Trakker and Eurocargo models using CKD technology provided by Iveco SpA. Over the past 16 years, the company has increased its production site by more than 10 times. Among the main production complexes, the following should be noted: the truck assembly shop, the cabin welding shop, the cabin painting and final assembly shop, the frame painting and superstructure manufacturing shop. In addition, on the territory of the enterprise there are a customs warehouse and a temporary storage warehouse, which allows the enterprise to be more flexible when planning production processes.

Of particular note is the production of cabins. There are two slipways for welding Trakker cabs and one slipway for welding Eurocargo cabs. Capacity: 3,000 cabins per year when working in one shift: 2,000 Trakker cabins and 1,000 Eurocargo cabins.

A modern cataphoretic priming line with a capacity of 5,000 booths per year during single-shift operation allows us to provide a 10-year guarantee against through corrosion. The final assembly line for cabins is designed for the same productivity. This workshop was put into operation in 2014.

Before assembling the frame, the side members and its other elements, if necessary, undergo lengthening, strengthening, additional drilling and subsequent painting.

The chassis section is designed to assemble 3000 units. per year for single-shift work. In passing, we note that the capacity of the superstructure section is designed to produce 1000 dumping platforms per year in one shift. The automated warehouse is designed for 5,000 vehicles per year per shift.

The company has experience in creating machines that are not included in the basic specifications. This is a kind of constructor that allows you to create special designs from a ready-made 6x6 chassis, in particular, a chassis with a wheel arrangement of 8x8 or more. By the way, if the number of such chassis exceeds 50 units during the year, the enterprise has the right to apply for such a vehicle kit, which will significantly reduce the costs of manufacturing such trucks.

The delivery of trucks takes place in two stages: at the brake stand and through a test run. Finalization also includes a mandatory test for cabin tightness.

In 2015, Iveco-AMT LLC resumed production of trailers. This year 20 units were produced. log trailers under the AMT brand. These trailers are designed for transportation of timber logs in two packs of 4 m each and are structurally designed to work as part of a road train with an Iveco-AMT 633920 log truck.

THE LINEUP

At the impromptu exhibition, all cars presented were manufactured taking into account the requirements of specific customers. In the near future they will go to places of direct use. In addition, the exhibition included promising gas vehicles running on methane, which are currently being tested.

Let us briefly introduce the exhibits. Dump truck Iveco-AMT 653900 (6x6). This is a “representative” of a large batch of 30 dump trucks that will work on the construction of oil pipelines in Eastern Siberia. The features of this dump truck are a reinforced front axle (10 tons), a transfer case with a switchable front axle, and a 12R24 dual-pitch tire. The dump body produced by Iveco-AMT has a volume of 16 m3 and a reinforced heating system for northern latitudes.

Various modifications of truck tractors for towing heavy and special semi-trailers in difficult operating conditions are in constant demand among consumers. Thus, the Iveco-AMT 633910 (6x6) truck tractor is designed to work as part of a road train with a gross weight of 97 tons. It is equipped with a reinforced front axle, a ZF transfer case with a front axle shutdown function, a cabin with a high roof and two berths.

Another truck tractor is the heavy-duty Iveco-AMT 733910 (8x8). It is designed to operate as part of a road train with a gross weight of up to 120 tons. It is equipped with a 450 hp engine. p., single tire 16R20, fifth wheel coupling from JOST 38G (with three degrees of freedom). At the request of the client, a large Russian oil and gas company, it will be equipped with an automatic transmission, a cabin with a sleeper berth and other northern-style options for work in Yakutia.

Iveco-AMT manufactures various modifications of the chassis for the installation of fire equipment, both domestic and imported. Both Iveco Trakker and Eurocargo chassis are used to install fire tankers, foam lifters, and fire and rescue vehicles. At the same time, many cars are unique and have no analogues.

From the extensive range, the fire tank AC-6.0-100 (on an Iveco Trakker 6x6 chassis) should be noted. It was developed in full accordance with the requirements of the customer - JSC AK Transneft. The capacity of the water tank is 6000 l, the capacity of the foam former tank is 1000 l, the pump capacity is 80–120 l/s, the fire monitor jet range is 80 m.

The range of special equipment based on the Iveco-AMT Eurocargo all-wheel drive chassis with 4x4 and 6x6 wheel arrangements has expanded significantly in recent years. Several dozen different variants of special equipment were sold to consumers, for example: shift buses, workshops, drilling rigs, road machines, excavators.

Thus, the Iveco-AMT 493920 excavator-planner is made on a Eurocargo 210E28 Euro-5 chassis with a 6x6 wheel arrangement, in a gas-diesel version. There are currently no analogues to such a car. Iveco Eurocargo chassis in a three-axle version with a total weight of 21 tons are manufactured only at Iveco-AMT, which significantly expands its installation capabilities. Installing a combined engine power system allows you to replace up to 40% of diesel fuel with methane, thereby increasing the vehicle's mileage without refueling and significantly reducing fuel costs. For the first time, an excavator superstructure was installed on the chassis (Belarus). This is a modern excavator model with a bucket volume of 0.63 m3 and a digging depth of up to 6.8 m.

Another example is a workshop on an Iveco-AMT 473920 chassis on a Eurocargo 150E28 Euro-5 chassis with a 4x4 wheel arrangement. The workshop is equipped with a heater, lockers, shelves, special equipment, as well as an intercom and radio.

The development of the topic of gas engine technology is a current area of ​​activity for the enterprise. We were presented with an Iveco-AMT 633911 (6x4) CNG truck tractor with a methane-powered engine. The Cursor 13 engine was converted to gas fuel (Ekaterinburg). The engine is powered by 10 cylinders with a volume of 287.5 m3. CNG consumption per 100 km is 35–53 m3. Engine power 412 hp. s., torque 2025 Nm at 1100–1500 min-1. The engine has been tested at the stand, and now the tractor must undergo operational tests in Siberia.

The Iveco-AMT 653900 (6x6) dump truck left the impression of a reliable machine that can, if necessary, get out of a difficult situation. This was especially felt on the rolled snow slope. Only the steering column lock button in the floor added a drop of ointment. Much more familiar are buttons or levers on the speaker itself.

The Iveco-AMT 733910 (8x8) truck tractor was perceived more like an armored personnel carrier. The use of single-pitch tires with large-diameter wheels significantly reduced the machine’s capabilities in the quarry. For people with short stature, this created a lot of problems; in one case, they even had to lift a person to get into the cabin. I think it makes sense to install an additional footrest on a flexible suspension.

The workshop Iveco-AMT 473920 turned out to be quite fast, despite the presence of only a 6-speed gearbox. Therefore, due to the high superstructure, I had to constantly rein myself in. The impression was spoiled by “out-of-season shoes”, which ultimately did not allow us to climb the rolled snow slope. Well, everything is fine, to say the least.

Thanks to the use of a turbocharger, the engine's power indicators have been increased, the acceleration dynamics and speed characteristics of the truck have been improved. The car was equipped with 4 gas cylinders with a volume of 41.6 m3. The power reserve is 750 km, including 300 km on gas. The engine gas valve module ensures accurate fuel dosage in all operating modes, and the exhaust manifold allows the engine to operate for a long time on lean mixtures, reducing fuel consumption.

Flatbed truck "GAZelle NEXT CNG"

The tow truck based on the GAZon NEXT CNG medium-tonnage truck for transporting vehicles with a gross weight of up to 2.5 tons is equipped with a YaMZ-534 CNG diesel engine with a power of 150 hp. At the same time, the price of the basic vehicle chassis is 2.5–3 times lower than the cost of analogues used for installing tow truck superstructures, and the use of a CNG engine allows saving up to 160 thousand rubles. per year with a mileage of 60 thousand km.

To work in difficult conditions, a frame with side members thickness of 10 mm and a height of 309 mm was used. Another feature of this dump truck is a reinforced front axle with a load capacity of 10 tons, a ZF transfer case with a switchable front axle, and a 12R24 gable tire (KAMA tires are used). They decided to install a very decent fuel tank - 455 liters.

The dump truck superstructure produced by IVECO-AMT LLC has a volume of 16 m3, the thickness of the sides is 6 mm, and the thickness of the bottom is 8 mm. The body is equipped with an enhanced heating system for northern latitudes. The tipper hydraulics were supplied by Binotto. The production of dump bodies and other superstructures has been carried out at IVECO-AMT LLC since 2006 through a full cycle, including design development, welding and painting.
