His grandfather has an old “Belarus” at his dacha, he said he rode on it, and repeatedly, even plowed the field a couple of times, but it was a wheeled tractor, and I drove on tracks =). It seems like a real breakthrough. Our mechanical engineering has never created anything like this. Just imagine, a turbodiesel with a power of four hundred and twenty-eight horsepower (my twelve-ton fool had even less - two hundred and forty), hydraulics with a total capacity of two hundred and sixty l/min, a three-point agricultural hitch with EHR, a pendulum trailer, a power take-off mechanism with replaceable shanks, cab safety cage, air conditioning and two heaters. This turns out to be a beast). It simultaneously incorporates the brand's traditional reliability and resistance to high loads, as well as innovative technological solutions. I would like to see it with my own eyes, and even more to ride it in person.

  1. The design of the Kirovets K-701 tractor is simple and uncomplicated. Experienced Soviet engineers were faced with the task of developing a high-tech machine, without any aesthetics. The main thing in this tractor is power, high strength and geometric maneuverability. It must be admitted that the model in question was one of the few tractors of its time that had a rotating frame. Thanks to this, it was possible to achieve good maneuverability. In addition, maneuverability was also improved due to its small dimensions. In the front of the tractor there is a metal bumper, into which round headlights and turn signals are mounted. In the rear part there are lights and the main towbar, which is structurally similar to the hitches that are used in other modifications of the K-700 family.

Large wheels with the same dimensions for the rear and front axles were of no small importance for the sake of cross-country ability - this arrangement is very unusual and unusual for classic tractors. But it was thanks to it that it was possible to provide excellent off-road performance. We also note a ground clearance of 440 mm, high approach and departure angles, minimal body overhangs and strong protection for the engine compartment. All this adds confidence in overcoming obstacles, including due to permanent all-wheel drive. The wheels have an optimal coefficient of traction, which reduces the risk of wheel digging, for example, when driving on muddy ground.
  3. The cabin of the Kirovets K-701 tractor is made quite simply, but at the same time it is distinguished by its thoughtfulness and the absence of ergonomic miscalculations. The cabin is so spacious that two people can fit in it. The cabin contains the most necessary elements of comfort. There is no ventilation system or cabin heating, but the controls are located quite conveniently and are at hand. In addition, engineers installed a new, more durable crankshaft. The double-row arrangement of cylinders with a 75-degree slope provided optimal center-to-axle weight distribution and improved stability even on uneven roads. In addition, the use of lightweight materials made it possible to reduce the engine weight to 1,790 kg. The engine is equipped with a 32-liter oil tank, as well as a 35-liter coolant tank. The latest modernized version of this engine received two K-36 turbochargers.
  5. Despite the lack of aerodynamics as such, the tractor demonstrates good dynamic characteristics. Thus, the car is capable of reaching 45 km/h, which allows you to confidently navigate city traffic. The speed in reverse gear is 24 km/h. Fuel consumption per hour is 50 liters.
  6. The Kirovets K-701 tractor received a gearbox from the K-700 model, but with some changes. The transmission has 16 forward and 8 reverse speeds with spur gears. During the transition to subsequent speeds, it was possible to prevent loss of power thanks to the clutches. As for the chassis, the front axle is represented by a dependent leaf spring suspension with a balancer axle. We also note the pneumatic braking system, which is recognized as more reliable than the pneumatic-hydraulic brakes used previously. To strengthen the structure, a compressor, a pneumatic distributor and a buffer receiver are used.

In this review I would like to introduce you to the K-700 (Kirovets) tactor. This tractor is widely used in almost all sectors of our industry and has proven itself well, both in agriculture and in construction.

My acquaintance with him took place in the distant nineties, when I, while still a student at an agricultural technical school, was sent for practical training to a collective farm. It took place during the hottest period for farming, in the spring. Plowing was in full swing, and there were not enough tractor drivers, and I, although a young specialist, was assigned to the K-700 Kirovets tractor.

I will say right away that I was not very delighted with such trust in me, since I understood that working on such a large and complex tractor was not easy and required special skills, and, as you understand, I didn’t have them then, except theoretical knowledge. But my fears, as practice has shown, were in vain. I relatively quickly got used to its dimensions and driving specifics, since it was noticeably different from other tractors.

The K-700 has a manual gearbox with constant mesh gears and friction clutches with a hydraulic drive, which ensures shifting without interrupting the power flow. And another location of the steering wheel: it is on the right side along the direction, and turns are carried out using hydraulic cylinders. Therefore, all this requires special driving skills. And so, a two-seater cabin, well protected from noise, with a good heating and ventilation system, made it possible, during work, not to feel much discomfort and to easily carry out agricultural work...

The engine power (YaMZ-238NM) of the K-700 Kirovets tractor (230 hp), with relatively low fuel consumption (13-15 liters), allows you to attach a twelve-share plow to it for plowing, which significantly increases labor productivity and thereby reduces the time allocated for earthworks. It was interesting to plow on it, because the result was immediately visible, that is, a large amount of work done.

In two weeks of working on the K-700 tractor, I didn’t have any big problems with it and I coped well with the task of the farm management, which had a positive impact on my grade for practical training.

My guy worked on the first K-700 models in Siberia... So the first Kirov trucks had no power steering!!!!! But he worked on these modifications K-700, K-701 until 2010... There is no better tractor for him than KIROVETS!!!! Well done St. Petersburg people!!!

  • Anton, Kharkov. Not the worst tractor among Soviet models. The car has a strange design, although at that time they didn’t care much about appearance. Productivity and speed of work completion were much more important. There is no comfort at all, but this is not the main thing in the work. The machine effectively processes any soil, including hard virgin soil. In construction, the tractor works with heavy loads, or can act as a tug. It is undemanding when it comes to fuel quality and can accelerate to 45 km/h, which is quite good for such a boxy car. It drives confidently off-road, although you have to be careful here - the connection between the steering wheel and the wheels is very mediocre.
  • Pavel, Sverdlovsk. Kirovets K-701 is a completely relevant tractor today. It has a good load capacity of about 7-8 tons, decent technical parameters and a powerful motor. Thanks to the same wheels, the tractor confidently copes with any off-road conditions, as well as agricultural tasks - hilling, cultivating, plowing, harrowing and other operations. The tractor cabin does not have any comfort elements - there is no heating or ventilation, although you can add a separate fan and an autonomous heater. But it still feels like the car is from another time. She is clumsy and too noisy. It is completely unsuitable for use in winter, except perhaps only in spring or autumn, and in summer it is very hot in the cabin - due to the lack of air conditioning and a wide glass area. On the other hand, wide glazing improves visibility. For our farm, Kirovets K-701 is still quite relevant, but nothing more. And it can be easily maintained in garage and field conditions.
  • Yaroslav, Nizhny Novgorod region. Kirovets K-701 is a worthy workhorse for work in warm weather. It’s not comfortable to work in winter, since there is no thermal insulation, and I’m already silent about the heater. If you don’t pay attention to the discomfort, including noise and vibration, then you can still work on this Kirvots. Maintaining it is not very expensive, and all spare parts are available aftermarket. The machine copes with hilling and cultivation, as well as transporting goods.

  1. The Kirovets K-424 is equipped with a compact and economical Russian-made YaMZ-5362 diesel engine. This motor reveals all the advantages of the Kirovets K-424 tractor. The engine has six cylinders and develops over 200 horsepower. The power plant is equipped with various auxiliary systems, among which we note Common Rail electronic fuel injection, which increases fuel efficiency and reduces emissions of harmful substances down to the Stage III environmental standard. In addition, this unit has successfully passed certification of the Customs Union. Based on this, it is not surprising that it is in great demand in at least five post-Soviet countries - Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. According to official data, the power plant with a displacement of 6.6 liters develops 240 forces or 175 kW. In this case, the operating power indicator is 215 hp. With. We will also add here a torque of almost 950 N/m, achieved already at 1300-1600 rpm. It is noteworthy that when the turbine is activated, the power output of the engine increases to 168 hp. With.   2. Kirovets K-424 is equipped with an automatic transmission with six forward and three reverse gears. This number of speeds ensures smooth operation when switching. Thanks to smooth and precise shifting, the maximum speed of the tractor together with a standard trailer is 40 km/h. The gearbox is reinforced with a power take-off shaft with two operating modes - from 500 to 100 rpm.
  3. The K-424 “Kiryusha” tractor is an all-wheel drive wheeled vehicle operating according to the classic 4x4 formula. Moreover, the front and rear drive axles have a center differential lock. A special feature of the main gear design is the drive and driven bevel gears, with a circular tooth and a locking differential. The differential itself is built into the main gear housing and mounted on tapered bearings. In addition, the drive axles are reinforced with wheel planetary gearboxes, which, in turn, consist of gears, a carrier and three satellites. To increase strength, the rear axle is fixed to the tractor frame, and the front axle is fixed by means of longitudinal semi-elliptical springs with hydraulic shock absorbers. To shorten the braking distance, the tractor received powerful hydraulic brakes.
  4. The Kirovets K-424 Kiryusha model is equipped with a hydraulic system that is driven by an axial piston pump. The productivity (fluid throughput) of the hydraulic pump is 210 liters per minute. The aforementioned power take-off shaft, coupled with such hydraulics, ensured the high lifting capacity of the main attachment. We will also add here a five-section hydraulic distributor, which consumes about 95 liters per minute through one section, and up to 185 liters per minute through two sections. The design provides for free drainage of liquid, as well as four independent hydraulic lines. Thanks to these auxiliary components, the lifting capacity of the rear linkage is 6 tons, which corresponds to traction category 3. As an option, you can install a multi-lift with height adjustment. The lift can be equipped with a bracket and a pendulum hitch located in the front of the tractor. Essentially, it is an auxiliary attachment with a lifting capacity of 4.5 tons. It is possible to operate both implements simultaneously, which almost doubles the load capacity.
  5. The driver's workplace has many adjustments - both the driver's seat and the steering column. The level of ergonomics in the arrangement of instruments, levers and switches, as well as the level of sound and noise insulation of the interior, correspond to current tractor and automotive standards. Comfort and coziness in the cabin is ensured by a powerful climate control system with heating and ventilation functions. In general, we can say without a doubt that the developers managed to achieve a decent level of comfort, space and silence in the cabin. The cabin itself is all-metal, with a built-in protective frame and a wide glass area, which is also present on the roof - in the form of a panoramic sunroof. Due to this, it was possible to obtain excellent visibility. There is one single door on the left side for access to the cabin. Convenient mini-steps are designed to facilitate access to the salon. We note the high level of ergonomics of the devices responsible for controlling the coupling devices. You can operate them using a compact joystick.
  6. Kirovets K-424 Kiryusha, like all other representatives of the Kirov Automobile Plant model range, has high maintainability. It is very reliable and easy to maintain. It can be repaired in garage and field conditions, if you have special tools. Due to this, the car is much better adapted to Russian conditions than its more expensive foreign competitors.
