From 1981 to 1989, a large-scale reconstruction was carried out at the Minsk Automobile Plant, as a result of which a completely updated range of trucks was put on the assembly line.

Thus, starting in 1983, MAZ mastered the production of the MAZ-5434 timber truck, the MAZ-6422 three-axle tractor, the MAZ-5551 dump truck, the MAZ-5337 cargo chassis, the MAZ-53371 flatbed truck and the MAZ-5336 flatbed truck with an extended platform.

Over the next few years, Minsk automakers modernized the rather successful base model MAZ-6422. On the basis of this model, the MAZ-64221 family was created, the distinctive features of which were folding front panel grilles, an updated instrument panel, improved suspension, chassis and braking system.

The truck is equipped with a V-shaped 360-horsepower eight-cylinder turbodiesel coupled to a nine-speed manual transmission.

MAZ 53362

Flatbed truck with 4x2 wheel arrangement, load capacity 8.28 tons. The first trucks of this brand rolled off the MAZ assembly line in 1990 and were produced in small quantities. The total weight of MAZ 53362 is 18 tons, the total weight as part of a road train is about 38 tons.

The design of the cargo body is a welded metal platform with folding sides on the sides and rear, with a wooden floor. The two-seater cab is tilted forward using a manually operated hydraulic cylinder. The cabin is equipped with two seating areas. The driver's seat is sprung, adjustable in length and height, as well as in the angle of the backrest and cushion.

The truck is equipped with a 300-horsepower eight-cylinder V-shaped Yaroslavl YaMZ-238 B turbodiesel. Among the engine design features, a low-pressure fuel pump, a fuel injection advance clutch and a speed controller should be noted. The car is equipped with a dry filter with a clogging indicator and a replaceable filter element.

To facilitate starting, the power unit is equipped with an electric torch device. Additional engine and cabin heating is provided by an optional 15.8106 heater.

The maximum speed of the truck is 115 km/h; as part of a road train, the vehicle reaches a maximum speed of up to 100 km/h. The MAZ 53362 reaches an average speed of 60 km/h in 60 seconds. The braking distance when driving at a speed of 60 km/h is 36.7 meters. Fuel consumption per 100 km. way at a speed of 60 km/h - 21.8 liters, at a speed of 80 km/h - 29.6 liters. As part of a road train, the truck consumes 33.2 liters per 100 kilometers at a speed of 60 km/h, and 40.1 liters at a speed of 80 km/h.

The truck is equipped with a YaMZ-238N double-disc clutch with a system of peripheral springs and a mechanical switch with a pneumatic booster. The engine is mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with a range-shifter. All gears, with the exception of reverse, are equipped with synchronizers.

The design of the cardan transmission consists of two consecutive shafts with an intermediate support. The main transmission is two-stage, spaced apart. The truck is equipped with discless wheels. The front suspension design is based on longitudinal semi-elliptic springs. The suspension is equipped with shock absorbers and a stabilizer providing lateral stability. The rear suspension is built on two basic and two additional springs and is also equipped with an anti-roll bar.

Serial production of two-axle flatbed trucks MAZ 53366 began in 1990. The carrying capacity of a vehicle with a 4x2 wheel arrangement is 8.3 tons. The curb weight of the flatbed truck is 8.2 tons, the total weight is 16.5 tons, the total weight of the road train is 28.5 tons.

The design of the cargo body is a welded metal platform with folding sides on the sides and rear, with a wooden floor. The dimensions of the cargo platform are 6100 x 2420 x 2330 mm. MAZ 53366 is offered in versions with and without canvas awning.

The cabin is equipped with two sleeping places for the driver and passenger. The driver's seat is sprung, adjustable in length, inclination of the seat cushion and backrest and in height.

The truck is equipped with a 240-horsepower V-shaped 8-cylinder diesel power unit YaMZ-238M2 with a turbocharging system. The maximum speed of the car is 87 km/h. Fuel consumption per 100 km. the distance is 26 liters at a speed of 60 km/h.

The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The wheels are discless, the suspension is spring.

As optional equipment, the truck can be equipped with a Webasto power unit and cabin heating system.
