Flaws

This model, like many other cars of the Kama Automobile Plant, has rather poor build quality. Over time, the entire interior begins to rattle and make other sounds. Because of this, rust appears on many metal elements after the first years of operation, which also spreads quickly.

During operation, various breakdowns and malfunctions often occur, but at least they are minor.

As some owners note, the cabin's sound insulation is approximately between medium and low levels. It's quite noisy inside, but not as much as its predecessors. In summer there is a lack of air conditioning.

This truck has practically no all-terrain qualities. The car can get stuck in the mud and locking differentials won't help much.

During maintenance and diagnostics, it is necessary to inspect all lines for air flow leakage. It is also recommended to drain the accumulated fluid and check the condition and performance of the brake mechanisms (drum-type mechanisms with a diameter of 42 cm are installed here).

The width of the brake pads is 18 cm, and the total area of ​​their working surface is 960 cm². To stop the vehicle, you do not need to exert much effort, just a slight pressure on the brake pedal.

Electrical equipment

The design of power equipment at KamAZ includes:

Description

After restyling, KamAZ became more modern, if assessed by external data. The design of the headlights has changed - instead of the boring round ones, you can now see stylish rectangular headlights.

Changes also affected other elements of the cabin. In particular, the bumper was replaced with a more massive one, which is an additional means of safety, because in case of collisions with any obstacles, it plays the role of a buffer that softens this impact.

The side mirrors have also been modified, allowing the driver's viewing angle to be significantly increased. Thanks to the new design, dead zones have been virtually eliminated.

The developers did not stop there, making a number of attempts to make changes to the internal structure of the cabin. The seats were equipped with air suspension and an adjustment system that allows you to set the position and height that is needed in each specific case.

In addition, the steering column is also adjustable, allowing you to set the desired height, which, coupled with the adjustable seat, allows you to make fairly long journeys without the threat of severe fatigue.

These requirements for increased comfort are determined primarily by labor standards and practical considerations. As for the internal “filling”, the standard KamAZ 65115 uses two types of engines:

Cummins engine – has 282 hp. The KamAZ 65115 engine capacity is 6.7 liters and the torque is about 950 Nm.

Motor 740.62-280 – has 280 hp. In addition, there are eight cylinders and the volume is 11.76 liters. The same engine is installed on the KamAZ-65117 model.

This truck has a 6x4 wheel arrangement, which allows you to cross any terrain, even on poor quality surfaces.

KamAZ-65201-21010-43. This is a heavy-duty dump truck with a front axle load of 7,000 kg and a rear axle load of 8,000 kg. The weight of the load being lifted must not exceed 29,000 kg. The main advantage of four-axle dump trucks is a lower axle load and, accordingly, an improved distribution of useful mass along the axles. Of course, the main load of the mass is still borne by the rear bogie, just like with three-axle vehicles. However, the load on the second axle is much higher than on the front axle (engine and cab). Another positive effect of four-axle trucks, which was immediately noted during viewing and test drives of the new product, is the impressive smoothness of the ride, even in running order.

This large-capacity truck is built on a reinforced frame platform with powerful spring suspension of the front and rear pairs of axles. This dump truck model is equipped with an all-metal platform with a straight front side. Additionally, a canopy is installed on the front part of the body, which serves to protect the cab from the rear. Key components and structural elements of the KamAZ-65201 were designed in accordance with all world standards for the development of heavy-duty vehicles.

At first, KamAZ-65201 was produced with an old-style cab.

The stability and controllability of the dump truck is significantly enhanced by equipping the rear and front suspensions with anti-roll bars. The KamAZ-6350 chassis allows the installation of a wide variety of modules and add-ons, this makes it possible to use it for military and completely civilian purposes. Types of special equipment based on this model:

  • Truck tractor. It was first shown in 2003 during an exhibition in Bronnitsy. Such a tractor is capable of towing semi-trailers weighing up to 32,000 kg. Installation of additional tanks increases its power reserve to 1,400 km.
  • Artillery tractor. Presented in 2006 during a weapons exhibition. The designation of this modification is KamAZ-63501. It can tow guns and other trailers weighing up to 12,000 kg with an additional “boarding” of eight people (2 in the cabin, 6 inside the habitable compartment). Test dives of the new KamAZ-65201 (both with the previous and updated versions of the engine) invariably surprised journalists from auto magazines. After all, the seemingly bulky dump truck chassis “KAMAZ-65201” has enviable acceleration dynamics. Not every truck is capable of accelerating to 60 km/h in 15.6 seconds, almost like a passenger car.

This is facilitated not only by a powerful diesel engine, but also by a manual 16-speed gearbox of German origin - “ZF 16S 151”. Pleasant acceleration dynamics also depend on how quickly and accurately the gearbox speeds are switched on. There are no delays in gear engagement or inaccurate gear engagement. The ZiF gearbox works clearly and without any effort.

It should be noted that the KamAZ-65201 dump trucks are equipped with a main gear with a gear ratio of 5.11 - higher speed than traction. But the chassis for installing a concrete mixer or crane equipment is equipped with a main gear with a gear ratio of 6.33. In general, drivers and owners have a good opinion about this dump truck - the cabin is comfortable, has air suspension, and rides very smoothly. It is a pleasure to work on it, even if you spend a lot of time behind the wheel every day.

One of the owners says that already in the first months of operation it was necessary to repeatedly remove and solder the intercooler, since the right tank kept coming off. With grief, this problem was eliminated.

A more serious problem, which caused long ordeals and downtime of equipment, appeared after a mileage of only 35 thousand kilometers. The engine stopped developing speed: it worked correctly at idle, but as soon as it warmed up, the check light immediately came on, and the car stopped dead in its tracks. In search of a solution to the problem, I had to go all the way to the plant itself. It was decided that the problem was in the electronic control unit.

“Specialists have arrived. We carried out diagnostics for about ten hours and concluded that the breakdown had nothing to do with the ECU. We decided that the problem was related to the fuel supply system. We called the factory, they said that they needed to remove the pump. The specialist went through it completely. They brought the car, but it doesn’t drive again...” At the time of writing this review, the problem had not yet been resolved.

Another owner successfully worked at KamAZ-65201 for five years (he bought it new). The car has proven to be reliable and inexpensive to maintain. The motor, according to the owner, may not be powerful enough, but it is very reliable. I never had to change the earbuds. The valves were adjusted for the first time when the mileage was over 250 thousand. The rest of the time the engine ran smoothly.

He characterizes the dump truck frame as strong, and so do the axles. True, he didn’t conduct “strength tests” on his car, trying not to overload the 20 cc body, and he didn’t build it up either.

Also notes the very soft ride of the car, even when loaded. Of course, he climbs the hill with some difficulty. It rides great on asphalt and hard primers - this is its element. But for dirt (off-road) and work in quarries it is not suitable, or not entirely suitable.

The only thing that the owner of this KamAZ-65201 did not like was the “native” tires. The one that came from the factory, according to him, was no good, and soon he had to buy another one of better quality instead.

The driver's workplace is quite satisfactory and I really like it. No frills, but quite comfortable, and most importantly, warm in any circumstances. Sound insulation is done well. “I don’t argue that if you have extra money, you can take a Volvo or Scania, but I didn’t have any. And I don’t regret that I bought KamAZ-65201,” the owner of the car concludes.

Not everyone agrees with the quality of the cabin's sound insulation: some define it as average or even insufficient. In terms of the car's off-road capability, there is no disagreement: everyone defines it as weak. But on hard surfaces and durable, non-moistened soil, the KamAZ-65201, in the opinion of all owners and drivers, demonstrates excellent maneuverability for its size.

The quality of the factory painting and assembly of the KamAZ-65201 is also unanimously defined as weak. Serious and difficult to repair breakdowns, as in the first of the reviews mentioned, are still rare. But there are plenty of all sorts of minor malfunctions and annoying shortcomings that arise from time to time. However, spare parts are inexpensive and available on every corner.

Many owners and drivers (working in regions with hot summers) point out the lack of air conditioning in the KamAZ-65201 cabin. Yes, the stove works great, and in the winter the cabin is warm and comfortable, but in the summer an air conditioner would not be superfluous. The new Aksorov cabin is noticeably more spacious and comfortable than the usual one. The review is excellent. All instruments are readable.

In terms of fuel consumption: the engine is quite voracious, burning at least 40-45 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km with a loaded body. With an empty platform – 35 liters per 100 km.
