The transmission of the MTZ 82(80) tractor ensures the distribution of torque from the machine engine to the drive axles and additional equipment of the machine, as well as to the power take-off points. The system of MTZ 82 components includes: an engine clutch mechanism, a tractor gearbox, rear and front drive axles, and an integrated power take-off mechanism. An integral part of the MTZ 82(80) transmission is its intermediate part, located between the engine and the gearbox.

Main types of breakdowns

MTZ Belarus tractors are used to perform heavy and intensive work, so it is not surprising that the equipment periodically breaks down. Problems with performance are associated with the development of technical resources. Among the main types of malfunctions are:

  • MTZ engine - difficulty starting, interruptions in operation, insufficient speed, low or high oil pressure;
  • gearbox - problems with operation, switch play, unauthorized gear changes, wheel towing, overheating of the gearbox housing;
  • steering system - free wheel movement, problems with bearings, turning, shocks and vibration when turning;
  • fuel system - the diesel engine does not start, there is not enough engine power, gray or black exhaust smoke;
  • front and rear axles - sharp jolts, squeaks, noise, impacts, pulling to the side, increased pedal travel.

Any of the above problems must be resolved promptly. If equipment is operated with malfunctions, there is a possibility of complete failure of the tractor, which will result in the need for major repairs and increased costs.

"Gap" or "gap" in the MTZ 82(80) transmission

The gap is a part of the transmission that performs the function of transmitting rotation from the engine through the clutch to the gearbox and dividing the torque into the flow for the chassis and the tractor power take-off shaft. The unit body consists of one dry and three lubricated compartments separated by partitions. The dry clutch compartment is insulated with oil-resistant seals.

The dry compartment includes:

  • clutch mechanism
  • clutch release drive with release bearing connected to the control pedal

The clutch mechanism is designed to briefly disconnect the diesel engine and transmission in the event of shifting or disengaging gears when changing operating modes.

The three oil lubricated compartments include:

  • Power drive shaft and driven shafts of independent PTO with two-speed gearbox and shift drive
  • Hydraulic pump drive intermediate gear
  • A brake mechanism connected through a system of levers to the clutch control pedal, which ensures that the input shaft stops when the clutch is disengaged.
  • Reduction gearbox with shift drive

Torque is transmitted to the tractor gearbox from the power drive shaft through a reduction gearbox to the input shaft of the box. The driven PTO shaft receives rotation from the drive power shaft through the gear block and transmits rotation through the tubular intermediate shaft of the box and further to the cam clutch for switching PTO modes.

A splash of coolant from the radiator steam pipe indicates a violation of the injector cup seals, breakdown and cracks in the cylinder head.

The injector glass is removed from the block head, but first an M24X2.0 thread is cut on the inner surface of the glass using a special tool. How to place the special tool is shown below in Fig. 2.1.53—2.1.55.

If it is difficult to start the engine, there is a possibility of water getting into the fuel. Due to the low temperature of the mixture at the end of the compression stroke, complications can also arise that prevent the fuel from igniting.

But not only these reasons influence the difficult starting of the tractor engine. Violation of the adjustment of the advance angle of the start of fuel supply and the development of plunger pairs of the high-pressure fuel pump can also lead to such consequences. The volume of fuel supplied to the cylinders and the correct operation of the injectors depend on the technical condition of the plunger pairs of the fuel pump. The technical condition of the plunger pairs is checked using the KI-16301A device (Fig. 2.1.56).

Application of KI-16301A. This device is connected to the fittings of the pump sections of the fuel pump, having disconnected the high pressure fuel lines in advance. If the plunger pair is in good working order, the pressure developed should be at least 30 MPa (when the engine crankshaft is cranked by the starting device). The discharge valve seals are marked by the time the pressure decreases from 15 to 10 MPa. The reduction time interval is at least 10 s. If the device pressure gauge readings are low, the fuel pump must be replaced (see Fig. 2.1.57, 2.1.58).

The moment at which the sections begin to supply fuel and gives an idea of ​​the angle at which fuel injection begins into the cylinders is one of the important parameters that undoubtedly affects both the power and economic indicators, as well as the starting properties of the engine.

After installing a repaired or new fuel pump, it becomes necessary to adjust the fuel injection start angle. First, unscrew the installation bolt-stud from the hole in the rear sheet of the engine and insert it into the flywheel with the unthreaded part into the same hole until it stops (see Fig. 2.1.59). Rotate the crankshaft by the bolt securing the fan drive pulley (Fig. 2.1.60) until the installation bolt-stud is aligned with the hole in the flywheel. The valves of the first cylinder are closed at this moment. In this position of the crankshaft, the advance angle of the start of fuel supply is 26° to top dead center.

The KI-4941 momentoscope (Fig. 2.1.61) is placed on the fitting of the first section of the fuel pump. Then open the cover of the fuel pump drive gear, unbend the locking plate antennae and unscrew the bolts securing the drive flange (pump cam shaft to the gear (see Fig. 2.1.62).

Then it’s time to pump the power system. Take a hand pump and use it to pump until fuel comes out of the filter drain pipe without air bubbles. The fuel supply lever is set to the maximum supply position and the fuel pump shaft is rotated clockwise several times until the momentoscope tube is completely filled with fuel (see Fig. 2.1.63).

Then shake the tube to remove some of the fuel from it and smoothly rotate the pump shaft clockwise until the fuel level (meniscus) in the transparent tube of the momentoscope begins to rise.

Using a key to secure the pump shaft bolt from accidental turning, we identify the holes on the spline flange that coincide with the holes of the gear, screw in the fastening bolts and then secure them with a locking plate.

After the pump drive gear cover is installed, adjust the axial clearance of the fuel pump drive gear using bolt 1 (see Fig. 2.1.64). Having loosened the lock nut, screw in the adjusting bolt all the way, and then unscrew it half a turn and lock it with the nut.

Malfunctions and repair gaps

The main list of malfunctions leading to stopping the operation of the tractor and subsequent disassembly and repair of mechanisms at intervals:

  1. Sometimes clutch linings slip when the main oil seal on the input shaft wears out. Oil flows between the flywheel and the driven movable disk.
  2. There is no braking of the gearbox input shaft. Shifting gears is difficult or makes a grinding noise. Adjust or replace the clutch brake.
  3. Spontaneous shutdown of the independent PTO rotation speed
  4. Transmission oil leaks from the housing at intervals.

The overall operation of the unit depends on the condition of the support bearings of the drive power and driven PTO shafts. Due to the increase in play in the supports, the gaps in the engagement of gear blocks of the gearbox and splined joints increase, which leads to increased wear of parts, the appearance of a hum, beating during operation, and spontaneous knocking out of the PTO speed position.

To replace support bearings, shafts and gears in between, complete dismantling of the unit is required, followed by disassembly and replacement of worn parts.

Replacing oil seals in between

To replace the oil seals on the shaft supports in the front partition of the housing, the gaps on the power shaft, the driven PTO shaft and the hydraulic system pump drive axis, the following steps must be performed:

  1. We remove the hood.
  2. Disconnect the transfer case driveshaft.
  3. Unscrew the nuts securing the unit with the motor.
  4. Using the front wheels, we roll the engine away from the gap.
  5. Remove the lifting mechanism with the bracket.
  6. We change the seals.
  7. We collect cuttings.
  8. We roll up the tractor.
  9. We fasten the gap.
  10. Install the hood.

In the upper front support of the pump drive axis, the rubber sealing ring is replaced. The fixing bolt is unscrewed from the axle. Then remove the bushing and replace the o-ring. If the bushing and seat are broken, grind a new one of a larger size.

A little about the MTZ-80, -82 tractors

Universal - row crop tractors MTZ-80 "Belarus", MTZ-82 "Belarus" have been produced by the Minsk Tractor Plant since 1974. The goal at that time was to create a tractor with a power of 75-80 hp. traction class 1.4.
