The dimensions of trucks vary depending on the load capacity of the vehicle and the volume of its body. Car body sizes are usually classified according to the following parameters:
- The main parameters of the machines are: load capacity and body dimensions. The length of the car body, width, height - from which the volume of the body is calculated (length*width*height=body volume, which is usually measured in cubic meters).
- Additional parameters: features of various types of bodies (tilt, all-metal, flatbed), the purpose of the vehicle and its equipment with additional means for securing cargo.
Eurotent for 20 tons
This concept is not spelled out in regulatory documents, but is generally accepted and represents a truck whose overall dimensions of the semi-trailer are close to the characteristics indicated below.
A Eurotent or Eurotruck has the characteristics of a 20-ton truck, and in width it can accommodate two Europallets, each of which will have a length of up to 120 cm. There are numerous modifications of semi-trailers. A key feature of this design is the ability to dismantle the awning to make it easier to unload or load goods from the desired side. In addition, the dimensions of the 20-ton truck allow the semi-trailer to be equipped as a full-fledged open area. Not every 12-ton truck has similar capabilities.
What technical characteristics do such 20-ton tanks have (in m and m3):
- Length: 13.6
- Height: 2.45
- Width: 2.45
- Volume: 82
- Capacity (in pallets): 33
- Load capacity (tons): 20
Extended container 20 tons
The performance of this vehicle is close to that of the MAZ 20-ton dump truck in terms of technical characteristics, as well as to the performance of other models with tilt containers or a Euro-tent. At the same time, there are several subcategories into which such transport is divided, and they look like this:
- reefer container (in which refrigeration equipment is installed);
- thermal container (the same as in a regular insulated van, which is found in 12-ton trucks and models of other sizes);
- tented;
- platform with mounting posts.
Most often they are used for mixed transportation and are distinguished by standardized parameters, namely:
- Length: 12
- Height: 2.4
- Width: 2.4
- Volume: 68
- Load capacity (tons): 20
Isuzu Elf truck
The Isuzu Elf light-duty truck has gained great popularity in Russia and is gradually replacing the outdated and discontinued Valdai and Bychok.
Isuzu Elf trucks have been produced in Japan since 1959. In Russia, light-duty trucks began to be assembled at a joint venture in 2006.
Thanks to the placement of the cabin above the engine (like “real” trucks such as Kamaz, Mercedes, etc.) and the absence of a full-fledged hood, it became possible to increase the useful length of the body by reducing the overall length of the vehicle.
Modifications of Isuzu Elf.
There is no point in listing all possible modifications of the car - there are many of them - from a drilling rig to a dump truck.
Our transport company uses the most popular and sought-after modifications for intercity transportation:
- furniture van
- awning (euro awning)
- onboard
Tent for 10 tons
The dimensions of the 10-ton truck correspond to numerous models of domestic and foreign production, which often use a tilt body. It is worth noting that such models are also divided into several subcategories, such as:
- Models with a lifting capacity of no more than 5 tons, which in their characteristics are the same as the volume of a 10-ton truck or correspond to what an 8-ton truck looks like.
- Models with a carrying capacity corresponding to this category, having a body volume within 56 m3.
- Ton trucks are vehicles capable of transporting cargo weighing up to 15 tons, having an extended body with a volume in the range of 50-60 m3.
The dimensions of the 10-tonne truck have made it a universal transport vehicle, which is used by many companies and individuals to transport goods between cities and countries. 12-ton trucks (vehicles) are used similarly. In most cases, such vehicles also have an additional sleeping area in the cabin, as well as space to accommodate the forwarder.
Truck models from foreign manufacturers provide the possibility of using air suspension, which has a positive effect on the smoothness of the ride and also helps to ensure the protection of fragile cargo. In addition, some models are additionally equipped with elevators for greater convenience in handling cargo. The dimensions of the cargo transport allow you to install your own loading and unloading system.
Standard dimensions of a 10-ton tilt truck:
- Length: 5-8
- Height: 2.4-2.5
- Width: 1.8-3
- Volume: 25-60
- Capacity (in pallets): 15-20
- Load capacity (tons): 5-15
Calculation of cubic meters and weight of crushed stone for a truck
Calculation of how many cubes of crushed stone there are in KamAZ can only be done approximately, because it is necessary to take into account the bulk density of crushed stone, which varies greatly from the physical characteristics of the material, and the maximum load capacity of the machine. To better understand the dependency, it is worth considering a few examples:
1. KamAZ, with a carrying capacity of 15 tons, is on average capable of delivering:
- Crushed limestone or sandstone with a bulk density of 1300 kg/m3 is only 10 m3 due to the limitation of body volume: 15 tons / 1300 kg/m3 = 11.5 m3.
- Crushed granite is also 10 m3 due to the limitation of body dimensions: 15 tons / 1470 kg/m3 = 10.2 m3.
- When the bulk density of crushed stone increases, due to a decrease in the crushed stone fraction and an increase in its humidity, it can lead to a limitation of the delivered volume to 8-9 m3.
2. KamAZ, with a lifting capacity of 7.7 tons and a platform volume of 6 m3, is capable of delivering:
- Limestone crushed stone with a bulk density of 1300 kg/m3 of about 6 m3: 7.7 tons / 1300 kg/m3 = 5.9 m3.
- Granite crushed stone with a bulk density of 1470 kg/m3 is only about 5 m3: 7.7 tons / 1470 kg/m3 = 5.2 m3.
Thermal container for 10 tons
10-ton trucks equipped with an isothermal body are also manufactured by both domestic and foreign concerns. The same distribution into subclasses is used here as in the case of tilt trucks, but their distinctive feature is the ability to maintain the original temperature inside the body for a long period of time.
It is worth noting that for the normal functioning of the thermal properties of such transport, transportation must be carried out at an ambient temperature not exceeding the range from -10 to +20 degrees.
Most imported trucks in this category use air suspension, which simplifies the transportation of fragile goods and ensures better safety, even taking into account the carrying capacity of a 10-ton Euro truck.
Also, some models are equipped with a heating system, which allows you to transport goods over long distances even at low external temperatures. The sides of the cargo compartment are lined with tin and foam, and the doors are additionally equipped with a seal to prevent contact of the cargo with the external environment.
What are the dimensions of such a 10-ton truck:
- Length: 5-8
- Height: 2.4-2.5
- Width: 1.8-3
- Volume: 25-60
- Load capacity (tons): 5-15

- Flatbed vehicles
- Truck tractors
- Chassis vehicles
Extended container 10 tons
The technical characteristics of such vehicles are similar to models equipped with an isothermal or tilt body, but the subclasses of this vehicle no longer include trucks whose parameters are close to those of 8-ton trucks. At the same time, their purpose differs from why an 8-ton truck (machine) is often used.
There are many varieties of elongated containers. The most common and frequently used in practice are the following types of trucks:
- reefer container (equipped with a refrigeration unit);
- thermal container (the same as in a standard isothermal van);
- tented;
- platform with mounting posts.
In most cases, these types of trucks are used for mixed transportation of goods, that is, when goods are reloaded into different vehicles for transportation from one point to another. The dimensions of trucks are unified and look like this:
- Length: 6
- Height: 2.4
- Width: 2.4
- Volume: 34
- Load capacity (tons): 10-20
Truck 2-ton
Light-duty trucks are needed in cases where it is necessary to transport cargo equal in volume to the body of a Gazelle, but the latter does not have the required carrying capacity.
Cost of cargo transportation by light-duty transport

"ZIL" for 5 tons
The dimensions of the 5-ton ZIL class truck, as well as their consumer indicators, are quite consistent with many analogues produced by domestic and imported companies. The cargo compartments of this transport differ slightly from each other, so the dimensions of a 5-ton truck are almost always the same, as well as the volume of a 5-ton truck in m3.
The capacity of the 5-ton ZIL class truck made it a universal transport for intercity and intracity transportation over distances of no more than 700 km. Most often, this transport is used when transporting personal belongings, since 5-ton vehicles have dimensions that are just suitable for these tasks.
The dimensions of the 5-ton machine are as follows:
- Length: 3.5-4
- Height: 2.45
- Width: 2-2.3
- Volume: 14-21
- Load capacity (tons): 5
"ZIL-bull"
The consumer properties of such trucks also look no worse than most models of domestic and imported production, which is why the 3-ton truck gained its popularity as a universal transport used when it is necessary to transport various goods within the city and between populated areas. The cargo compartments of such vehicles differ slightly from each other, so the length of a 3-ton truck will always be the same and suitable for transporting a specific amount of cargo.
Thanks to its good driving performance, the average speed of the Bychka is at a fairly high level, around 80 km/h, and the minimum axle load allows this vehicle to be used for transporting goods in those areas of Moscow and other cities where there are restrictions on the entry of freight vehicles.
The dimensions of the trucks are as follows:
- Length: 3.7
- Height: 2.2
- Width: 2.1
- Volume: 17
- Load capacity (tons): 3.5
There are different types of trucks used to transport certain goods, and their choice is one of the most important elements of competent logistics, since the goods must be transported in a short time, safely and in compliance with all requirements. Which model to choose, be it a 5-ton truck with a body volume of 20 m3 or some other vehicle, it is difficult to tell without understanding what kind of cargo will be transported. That is why the fleets of large companies often contain all types of trucks, so that it is always possible to transport certain cargoes in the most optimal way.
Calculation of cubic meters and weight of sand in the machine
The calculation of cubic meters of sand in a car directly depends on the carrying capacity of the car, so it is always necessary to take this fact into account, which sometimes affects the impossibility of loading a full body. That is why the sale of bulk materials and loading it into the body of a car is usually regulated depending on the platform of the truck. Thus, a KAMAZ body can have a capacity of 6 m3, 8 m3, 10 m3, 12 m3, and if large volumes of supplies are required, a HOWO (Dong Feng) dump truck with a cargo capacity of 20 and 25 m3 is used.
Examples of calculations of how many tons of sand are in a KAMAZ or other truck:
- 6 m3 of dry construction sand with a density of 1600 kg/m3 (on average) will weigh 1600 * 6 = 9600 kg or 9.6 tons.
- 8 m3 of dry construction sand with a density of 1600 kg/m3 will weigh 1600 * 8 = 12800 kg or 12.8 tons.
- 10 m3 of the same sand will weigh 1600*10=16000 kg or 16 tons.
- 12 m3 of sand with similar parameters will weigh 1600*12=19200 kg or 19.2 tons.
- 20 m3 of sand – 1600*20=32000 kg or 32 tons.
- 25 m3 of sand – 1600*25=40000 kg or 40 tons.
