When the liquid in the cooling system of the UAZ “Loaf” passes through the engine, it will heat up. It must cool down to cool. A radiator is used for this. As reviews note, with them the engine is cooled much more efficiently.

The radiator in the system acts as a cooler. It is cooled by the oncoming air flow when moving. When the car is stationary or moving at low speeds, the air flow is weak and cannot sufficiently blow over the radiator. Then the fan comes into play. In this car it is of a forced type. The element rotates when the engine is running, regardless of the coolant temperature. Thus, it is very difficult to overheat the engine.

Signs of airing

If fuel gets into the engine cylinders, then even in the absence of a full start, smoke should come out of the muffler. Thus, if no smoke comes out of the muffler, this is the first sign of airing in the vehicle (fuel system). Fuel is not entering the engine, which means there is air in the system.


There are, of course, cases when smoke comes out, but fuel does not enter the cylinders. The exception is explained by the fact that the smoke that remains in the system comes out. To insure against such a situation (although it occurs rarely, it is possible), it is recommended to keep the starter longer - about a minute without a break. This time is quite enough to fill the exhaust system with smoke.

If air gets into the vehicle, then some peculiarities arise in the operation of the car. For example, problems with startup may appear constantly, for several days, or may not appear for a long time. Of course, this directly depends on the strength of air suction.

Here's what else happens:

  • after starting, the engine trembles, shakes, the entire operation of the engine can be assessed as extremely unstable;
  • the engine starts well “when cold”, but as soon as it warms up a little, failures begin, right up to a stop;
  • the engine does not start at all (this happens in neglected conditions, when air is already sucked in in large quantities).

Cooling jacket and pipes

To connect various components of the cooling system of the 402nd engine of the UAZ “Loaf”, pipes are used. These are rubber products in the form of tubes. The elements are quite reliable, but if they are used for a long enough time, they wear out and become old. Then the coolant may leak and its level drops. As a result, the motor overheats.

The cooling jacket is a necessary part, without which the engine simply will not cool down. The jacket passes through the entire cylinder block. It acts as a heat absorber. The coolant is then discharged to the radiator.

The design of the cooling system is typical for internal combustion engines of this design that were ever manufactured at the Zavolzhsky plant. The engine is equipped with a liquid closed forced system. Can I connect one pipe to the heater radiator from the tank (as an input) and the other from the pump (as an output). Exactly. And one more thing, where on the heater radiator is the inlet and where is the outlet? There isn't much difference.

And one more thing: if the partition between the heater radiator pipes is rotten, then the stove won’t heat up anyway!
