New Ural motorcycles 2022 – characteristics and photos, MotoPolis

The name Ural in the domestic automotive industry is associated primarily with the Ural-4320 model - a large six-wheeled off-road truck, which is currently used mainly for the needs of the army. This is not just a symbol of real power and brutality, because on the basis of this car they create not only truck tractors or specialized rotation vehicles, but also real armored vehicles.

Why not give all these impressive qualities, designed to instill pride in the famous “brand,” to an ordinary civilian crossover, also calling it Ural-4320? This was the question asked at the Ural Automobile Plant, deciding to demonstrate the possible results of such a project on the optimal day for such news - April 1!

On the page all the details about the possible 2022 Ural crossover model:

  • Details and official news about the new product;
  • Photos and renderings;
  • Possible prices;
  • Specifications;
  • Video of the new model.

New Ural motorcycles - photos and characteristics

Russian motorcycle manufacturers, despite the large selection of Japanese and Chinese equipment, still try to please consumers with excellent new products, and in 2015 the IMZ company introduced a number of new models.
Today, most of them are available for sale throughout Russia; to buy a Ural motorcycle, you just need to find a dealership; the company has several dozen of them throughout the country. At the time of 2015, the manufacturer was able to introduce 7 new models, differing from each other in shape and some characteristics. Most of the new products are already familiar to you from Soviet times, but the essence of the updates is to add new, more modern characteristics to the motorcycles, such as improved brakes, a more advanced engine system, etc.

Design

As noted earlier, visually the Ural-4320 2021-2022 cross-coupe looks more like an SUV than a crossover. It stands out for its angular and large body. But in fact, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that the independent designer presented precisely the crossover.

First of all, the roof line of the new product slopes gently towards the rear, which, in combination with the heavily flanked A-pillars, gives the car a more rapid appearance, which is not typical for SUVs. However, the presented URAL crossover received a fairly massive body with large wheel arches. The similarity with SUVs is also emphasized by large rear-view mirrors.

The new URAL crossover is distinguished by its almost flat hood, along which there are barely noticeable stamping stripes along the sides. This design solution made it possible to visually “stretch” the car. The front part of the body of the Russian model has a unique design, not typical for modern crossovers. The new product from URAL is equipped with large head optics with a small protrusion in the area of the radiator grille. Along its top and side parts, the designer laid an LED strip, which expands in one place. There is a compact flashlight in the center of the head optics, and the direction indicators are placed in a separate block on the side of the body.

The radiator grille of the presented new product is no less original. It is divided into 2 segments: a thin upper one and a wider lower one, which protrudes slightly forward. Inside the radiator grille there are horizontal lamellas that widen at the edges. The front bumper of the Russian new product has a massive shape, which is largely due to the presence of a large “void”, under which the original air intake is placed. It is presented in the form of three segments: a trapezoidal central one and oval-shaped lateral ones. The latter are complemented by compact fog lights, which are framed by LED DRLs.

The feed of the cross-coupe Ural-4320 2021-2022 has a stepped configuration. The rear pillars are strongly inclined forward, which is why the developer had to place a small glass here. Below it is a characteristic protrusion resembling a spoiler. The rear optics of the URAL crossover turned out to be large. It will probably also be complemented by LEDs. At the bottom of the large rear bumper there are square cutouts into which there are 2 round exhaust pipes.

Technical characteristics of motorcycles Ural 2015

It is worth noting that all 7 models have quite a lot in common; each of them contains:

  • powerful 750cc boxer engine;
  • constant air cooling;
  • 4-speed gearbox with the ability to drive in reverse.

Even as children, we had to remember the same boxer engine of Ural motorcycles, which produced excellent speed data. Now the manufacturer has decided to modify the motorcycle, increasing its volume and power. Having bought a new model, you will not only be satisfied with the purchase, but also forget for a long time about the main defects and frequent breakdowns of the old Urals. The new models have received improvements, so that now oil will not leak from the engine.

The new Ural 2015, photos of which will be below, are especially popular today in the United States. Such equipment is valued there, although in Russia it is losing demand due to the high price for consumers. In 2015 and beyond, IMZ motorcycles are mostly supplied to the USA.

Six of the seven 2015 models retained the standard stroller, only the Retro Solo did not receive one. All new products, without exception, now have the ability to engage reverse gear, and the Patrol and Gear Up models now have all-wheel drive. Urals have always been spoken about positively in terms of cross-country ability, because the motorcycle could get out of any difficult situation. With the new all-wheel drive, 2 models can overcome these barriers even better with the push of just 1 lever. As mentioned above, motorcycles are of different types, for example, the “Retro Solo” model does not have a sidecar, which makes it great for traveling and driving around the city.

Of course, the new products have one big drawback that repels customers - the high price. On average, 2015 models are asking from 500 to 700 thousand rubles, and most people buy Japanese fast bikes. But still, some fans of Soviet classics will buy them and feel nostalgic when riding Ural road motorcycles. Let's take a quick look at some of the new Ural motorcycles 2015, photos and their characteristics.

Maybe someday it will come out after all?

specializes in the production of cargo and heavy specialized equipment, has regular customers, but certainly does not have a staff of designers who could help create a modern civilian crossover. The second and even more significant problem is investment, because any such project will require hundreds of millions, or even billions of rubles of investment. But this does not negate the possibility of creating one-piece copies, for example, by large tuning studios or small private automobile companies.

In Europe and the USA, equipment from such enterprises often travels to various exhibitions and is exclusively made to order. Therefore, it is quite possible that one day some anonymous customer will want to see a Ural crossover in his garage and will not spare money on its development.

Motorcycle Ural ST

The new product was presented by the plant at the end of 2014 and was positioned as a representative of 2015. At the moment, the price of the model is 594,000 rubles. Particularly noteworthy are a number of positive innovations in the field of management. This indicator was improved by reducing the weight of the stroller and other structural elements. The model is perfect for beginner bikers.

The model's rims are 18 inches in size, and this is what has improved ground clearance and maneuverability. The engine with fuel injection, having a volume of 745 cubic meters, is responsible for excellent and reliable operation. The heavy road model reaches speeds of up to 110 km/h, with an average fuel consumption of 7.6 liters. The power declared by the manufacturer is 42 hp.

URAL BOBBER LE - from 1,080,000 rubles

New from the motorcycle factory.

Please note: Mercedes-Benz C-Class premiere: focus on efficiency and new technologies.

Special colors, special seats, a sports steering wheel, a “vortex” exhaust system - all this is standard.

Additionally, you can install all the same options, light, heating, glass.

I don't know about you, but to me these prices don't seem entirely reasonable. I, of course, compare with the prices of economy class cars. Something like Vesta (from 750,000 rubles) or Volkswagen Polo for 820,000 rubles. After all, the same Harley-Davidson only starts from 1,500,000 rubles in Russia. But that is not all)

Motorcycle Ural Patrol

The most important advantage of this model is the presence of all-wheel drive, which is transmitted to the stroller wheel. Thus, you can operate the motorcycle both on city roads and off-road. The engine remains the same as other 2015 models. The design of the motorcycle is discreet, but the presence of a bright red color attracts primarily young people.

To cope with difficult road conditions, the manufacturer decided to install Marzocchi telescopic suspension and imported Sachs shock absorbers. The front disc brakes are hydraulic, from the famous Brembo company.

Motorcycle Ural Solo

The price of this motorcycle is 559,000 rubles, and the main advantage over other new products is its excellent design and the absence of a sidecar. That is, the motorcycle was originally created as a retro model with excellent characteristics. All the elements here are in harmony with each other, there is an old seat upholstered in leather, lots of chrome elements, black color of most of the builders and a teardrop tank.

This model seems to commemorate war times, which is emphasized by the design of the Ural Solo. The engine here is the same as in previous models, 2 cylinders and 745 cc. With such overall dimensions, the new product can drive perfectly around the city even in heavy traffic.

Motorcycle Ural Gear-Up

At the moment, this is one of the most expensive Ural models of 2015, its price is 648,000 rubles. The basis for creating the motorcycle was the Tourist model, but among the improvements the following were made:

  • new roll bars;
  • drive to the sidecar wheel (all-wheel drive motorcycle);
  • new color options: Forest Camouflage, Desert Camouflage and Forest Fog;
  • new lights and cases appeared.

In appearance, the new product shows its power and desire to conquer even the most difficult road. As a result, the manufacturer was able to create a motorcycle that has good cross-country ability, 19-inch wheels, a large trunk, high ground clearance and the latest imported electrical equipment. The result can be seen in the photo.

What does KAMAZ OJSC offer?

In the report of a KAMAZ representative, it was noted that when developing a new AMN family, it is unlikely that it will be possible to achieve a large percentage of unification with national economic trucks, like the current Mustang family. To fulfill the Customer's requirements, new vehicles must be military vehicles only. But the unification of AMN and commercial vehicles cannot be completely ruled out, otherwise it will be too expensive equipment for the RF Ministry of Defense.

Regarding the requirements for BAT in terms of mobility and security, the opinions of KAMAZ specialists generally coincided with the opinion of the Customer. The requirements for carrying capacity turned out to be even higher (up to 30–40 tons or more), but the possibility of providing installation dimensions (installation length and width) was additionally indicated. KAMAZ designers also consider cross-country ability (adjustable ground clearance 400–550 mm, overhang angles 40–45º, etc.) and safety (presence of ABS, PBS, overall width more than 2500 mm as required by manufacturers of mounted weapons and military equipment, etc.) as the most important requirements. ). In fact, these requirements overlap the niche occupied by SKShT, but not by chance: KAMAZ is carrying out several works, including the creation of special wheeled chassis (SKSh) with a load capacity of more than 50 tons (although options for these SKSh are being considered for a lower load capacity).

For the first time, all the work that KAMAZ is carrying out to create VAT was publicly announced. If you follow the specified restrictions on the format of the article, out of the whole set, three ROCs should be mentioned: “Typhoon-K”, “Mustang-1” and “Tornado-M”.

About the first one, the Typhoon-K design and development project, something is said in the first part of the article. But, based on the report of a representative of KAMAZ OJSC, a clarification should be made. The Typhoon-K family is planned to include a 4x4 car and chassis, 6x6 and 8x8 modular cars and chassis, as well as 6x6 and 8x8 box cars. It is planned to develop working design documentation by mid-2013, and to begin manufacturing a pilot batch by the end of the year. The serial production of cars from the family is planned for the end of 2015 – beginning of 2016. The developments are expected to be used in the creation of cars of two other families.

The name of the second ROC “Mustang-1” has already leaked to the media during various interviews. Back in 2005–2006. KAMAZ proposed a project with the same name to the RF Ministry of Defense. Initially, it was planned to increase the power of the 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 models, respectively, to 280, 320 and 400 hp. But the implementation of the project was postponed in favor of the Typhoon-K design and development project. Currently, the concept of the AMN of the future family, codenamed “Mustang-1,” is moving towards foreign military analogues: on the slides presented at the conference I saw... German MANs! The start of the Mustang-1 development work is scheduled for the end of this year, the production of a pilot batch is planned to begin in 2015 and be completed in 2016, and serial production is planned from the second half of 2016. The AMNs being developed within the framework of the Mustang-1 R&D should replace the Mustang family, but the name of the future family may be different from the name of the R&D.

The third ROC mentioned, Tornado-M, was news to me. But, as a KAMAZ representative explained, the name uses in-plant terminology for ease of use. I do not rule out that ultimately the cars developed within the framework of the Mustang-1 and Tornado-M development projects will be brought together into one single family under a different name. Developments within the framework of the Tornado-M design and development work are proceeding in two directions - using classical solutions and using the developments of the Typhoon-K design and development work. Once developed, the Tornado-M vehicles should replace the currently produced KAMAZ-6560 and KAMAZ-65224 models, which are positioned as APG. In terms of implementation timescales, the Tornado-M design and development work completely coincides with the Mustang-1 design and development work.

The problems facing the plant were noted. The main one is related to the development of a new cabin. The cabin will have to be rebuilt, since the materials from commercial vehicles are not suitable.

Work to increase engine power has progressed much further: research and modernization of KAMAZ-740 engines is being carried out; there is a project with Cummins in stock; there are other plans (they were not mentioned, but most likely this is a project with the Tutaevsky Motor Plant). I would like to note on my own that the project with Cummins is unlikely to be implemented, since the US State Department prohibits the transfer of technology for the production of engines with a power of more than 400 hp, and KAMAZ is well aware of this. And KAMAZ’s strategic partner, the German concern Daimler AG, is unlikely to be eager to transfer such technologies to Russia. And designers from Chelny are unlikely to turn their attention to YaMZ products, there is competition...

Regarding suspensions, a variety of options are being considered, both with continuous axles with spring and spring suspensions, and with split axles. The latter option is preferable, since, among other advantages, it allows you to change the width of the frame, which is necessary for installing weapons and military equipment. But even when using continuous axles, it will not be possible to use suspensions that are installed on commercial vehicles, since the Customer’s requirements will not be met.

The most painful issue is the lack of domestic automatic transmissions... The speaker summed up: the question of using imported units will remain, and without their use, KAMAZ OJSC will most likely not be able to create a new family. As an option, you will have to use hydromechanical transmissions (HMT) produced by MZKT or create joint production facilities in Russia.

New truck "Ural-Next".

What can the Russians come up with to avoid building roads? For example, the Ural SUV truck, the new generation of which has finally been officially presented. Today “Auto Mail.Ru” reveals all the secrets of the car called “Ural-Next.” GAZ Group continues to update the model lines of its divisions. First, Gazelle-Next appeared, then Lawn-Next, and now Ural-Next. These machines are united by... No, not only the “Next” prefix. The main thing is the common cabin module, taken from the new Gazelle: spacious, 3-seater and comfortable. But is a passenger cabin actually suitable for a large truck, which is the Ural? And how else does the new generation of all-terrain vehicle differ from the old one? Today, when “Next from Miass” has finally been declassified, we can answer the questions.

Despite the aggressive techno-design, the appearance of the Ural-Next is unmistakably recognizable as the image of the Ural-375, which has already become a cult classic.

This is the story with the Ural cabins. In the late 1950s, when the new 375 family was being designed, the creators of the all-terrain truck thought to install a cab from the ZIL-130, but the military did not like this decision. They requested a soft convertible top to lower the height of the car. However, during the tests of 1961-1963. a new decision was made: the cabin should be its own and, moreover, all-metal. This is how the famous “Ural” appeared: with a long “nose” of the hood, strongly protruding wings and a large (by the standards of that time) glass area.

This cabin, originally from the sixties - as outdated as possible - continues to be installed on Urals today. One can only dream of ergonomics and comfort... Is there a replacement? In 1994, IVECO, UralAZ and Gazprom created a joint venture, and the welding line for cabover cabs of the old Turbo series was transferred to Russia. Over time, the IVECO module was installed on hooded models, with a plastic front end attached. However, the Ivekovsky passenger compartment did not take root on the “kapotniki” cars...

This is what trucks from Miass look like now: while the equipment was updated from time to time, the cabin of 50 years ago remained unchanged

They say that the current president of the GAZ Group, Vadim Sorokin, proposed installing a cabin from the Gazelle-Next on the chassis of the classic Ural-4320. In March 2014, the United Engineering built the first prototype, which the management of the Ural Automobile Plant unexpectedly exhibited near the Palace of Culture in the city of Miass, which caused a lot of noise: the new truck turned out to be very impressive! But many doubted: will such a bright development reach the production line? It has arrived: today at the capital’s exhibition “Construction Equipment and Technologies” the premiere of the serial version took place. Moreover, at the exhibition, the hybrid of the Gazelle cabin and the Ural chassis caused a lot of controversy. Why, they say, was the hood arrangement chosen? Here's why. UralAZ has been producing cabover vehicles with the aforementioned IVECO cab for a long time and successfully, but the target audience requires “nosed” equipment. Firstly, the military needs bonnets - the crew has a better chance of surviving an explosive detonation under the front end. Secondly, cabover trucks are less good “in the north” - they are inconvenient to repair and maintain.

The maximum load capacity of the chassis is now 13 instead of the previous 12 tons, while average fuel consumption has been reduced by 8%

Visibility also raises questions. From the outside it seems that the driver is completely unable to see what is happening in front of the front bumper! But this is an illusion: in terms of visibility, Next is much preferable to an old truck (from which you really can’t see anything). Of course, in the city, the driver of a tall, “nosed” heavy truck will not be as comfortable as the driver of a cabover... But who buys “Urals” for the city? Its element is off-road, which is eloquently demonstrated by the wheel formula - 4x4 or 6x6. And the presence of inter-wheel locks! At the same time, there was an improvement in the mechanical filling. First of all, the “skeleton” of the truck was modified - the frame received a solid reinforcement, which significantly increased its rigidity. By the way, the frame undergoes multi-stage anti-corrosion treatment, the cabin is stamped from galvanized steel, and the tail parts are made of impact-resistant (this is especially important for such machines) polymers - the Miass all-terrain vehicle is no longer afraid of rust.

In order for a regular Ural to become a Next, engineers had to make a lot of changes, the main ones of which are indicated on this X-ray

The engine is an inline 6.7-liter “six” with a power of up to 312 hp. (it is possible to order less powerful - 240 and 285 hp - versions) from the YaMZ-530 series. This is a fundamentally new family of motors, designed with the support of the famous Austrian engineering company AVL. Components for turbodiesel are supplied by world-famous companies: valves - Mahle, cylinder-piston group - Federal Mogul, common rail fuel system - Bosch, gears - ZF. Because of the new powerful motor, engineers had to radically rework the existing transmission in order not only to select the optimal gear ratios, but also to protect the units from extreme loads. The gearbox is now a 9-speed ZF (as an option you can order a YaMZ-1105 five-speed gearbox), but the axles and transfer case are our own, “Ural”, but capable of “digesting” 40% more input torque. According to plant representatives, the reliability and service life of the transmission have increased by 50%.

The interiors of the new Gazelle, Lawn and Ural are unified and differ only in details. I wonder if the Ural will have a joystick instead of a gearshift lever?

And the Urals also swear that they have taught the SUV to handle obediently and brake well: the first is controlled by an integral steering mechanism from the German company RBL (the steering wheel is now adjustable in angle), and the pneumatic braking system is built on the basis of Wabco components. Are there too many foreign components? “Don’t worry, the price will be good and competitive!” the factory workers retort. But specific numbers will be announced a little later, since sales have not yet started. By the way, about competitors. All-wheel drive trucks today are offered by most brands on our market. But the prices... For example, the brutal Mercedes-Benz Zetros bonnet is sold for at least 150,000 euros. Simpler equipment - say, Renault K, costs about 120,000 euros. Very expensive! So the real rival of Ural continues to be only the Russian KamAZ, which also has 4x4 and 6x6 models. Even without a hood.

The “shift vehicle” shown at the STT-2015 exhibition is bi-fuel: it can run on both compressed natural gas methane and regular diesel fuel.

Miass is confident that it has surpassed its long-time competitor in all respects, including reliability. We will wait to draw conclusions: the first test of Ural-Next is ahead, which will show how good the new car is. In the meantime, the new product has left an extremely positive impression: after the rough ancient Ural-4320, the neatly assembled Next is a real breakthrough. And if the truck stopped making noise and leaving behind traces of oil...

Finally, let’s reveal a few more interesting nuances of the model. "Ural-Next" will be offered in both 3-seater and 7-seater versions - two-row cabs are also taken from the second generation Gazelle. And since the truck switched to 12-volt electrical equipment, all the Gazelle “gadgets” will be available in the basic version: cruise control, radio control using buttons on the steering wheel, central locking, heated mirrors, electric windows... Among other “benefits of civilization” we also note pneumatic drives control of transfer case and locks. If the price for the new Ural has not yet been announced, then the terms of the warranty are already known: 2 years or 100 thousand km - a decent period by “cargo” standards

There will be few differences in the interior from the Gazelle Next. The most noticeable ones are the driver's seat with air suspension (the same one is on the new Lawn) and the handrails at the entrance. Alas, the small shelf to the right of the steering wheel, where it was convenient to put a mobile phone, is now given over... to the cruise control keys. Fortunately, the rest of the storage compartments, including the large “bottle holders,” remained in place. And the Ural can also be “living”: in a two-row cabin, the rear sofa turns... into a bed. How comfortable? We'll check in a month!

Ural Ranger

In 2015, Ural presented a new development - the Ural Ranger, which perfectly combines a scrambler and a sidecar. The characteristic features of the new model are:

  • Gorgeous design - painted in gray and yellow colors, made in a modern style, the motorcycle clearly stands out among other bikes of the company.
  • Off-road tires Heidenau K37.
  • LED fog lights.
  • High exhaust system 2 in 2.
  • Powerful bumpers.
  • A steering wheel with a transverse tube on which you can mount a smartphone, navigator or camera.

At the moment, Ranger is only available in European countries. His fate in the vast expanses of the CIS countries is unknown.

Otherwise, in terms of technical characteristics, including dimensions, this model corresponds to the Ural Sportsman.

What could the Ural crossover look like?

Renderings of the new SUV.
The authors of the news site “On the Highway” helped present the Ural as a crossover. Taking an average unnamed SUV as a basis, they tried to create an exterior that, in their opinion, would be perfect for a crossover from the Urals. Of course, they didn’t bother with finding a “suitable” platform or calculating the optimal wheelbase, because the main thing about this car was its brutal appearance.

Body design

The huge radiator grille, which was borrowed from the Ural Next truck, helped give the 2022 Ural crossover a menacing appearance. A massive and perfectly level hood should hang over it, and large side air ducts were chosen to decorate the protruding bumper. On the sides of the body of this car one can see rough edges of stampings and large wheel arches, generously covered with unpainted plastic.

At the rear, the crossover is just as brutal due to unusual optics and, again, large air duct openings in the bumper. Here, a mandatory attribute of any modern SUV is a spoiler, which is the end of the coupe-shaped roof. As for the wheels, large black “rollers” were chosen for the Urals. The side mirrors are also painted in the same color.

Interior and technical stuffing

Renders of the Ural-4320 Crossover showed only the appearance of the car. The authors’ imaginations did not go as far as the interior or coming up with possible technical characteristics for their crossover, but as a guide they could take the parameters of one of the largest engines that are installed on real trucks of the Ural Automobile Plant. For example, this is the YaMZ-238 engine, producing 239 hp. with power and 883 Nm of torque.

Not the greatest indicators for modern crossovers, and such an engine itself would hardly fit in the engine compartment of a new SUV, since its displacement is 14.8 liters.

  • new roll bars;
  • drive to the sidecar wheel (all-wheel drive motorcycle);
  • new color options: Forest Camouflage, Desert Camouflage and Forest Fog;

Problems with auto components

According to my information, today in the Russian Federation no one is seriously developing GMP or DGP for trucks. In the recent history of the Russian Federation, there were several chances to solve the problem, but a number of reasons, including subjective ones, only aggravated the situation.

Today in the Russian Federation there are still qualified specialists in automatic transmissions. There is a very powerful design center in Kurgan; they are slowly making automatic transmissions for tracked vehicles of new models based on the developments of the closed research project “Naturalnitsa”, and one of the national economic vehicles with a new gearbox has been repeatedly shown at exhibitions. But things don’t move beyond that...

The assembly of bus GMTs is carried out in Kazan under a license from the German company VOITH, but bus GMTs are not suitable for VAT - the operating modes there are completely different.

There are still people left at the State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation FSUE “NAMI”, but the institute needs young personnel who are ready to learn from the experience of veterans. And retaining competent specialists is very difficult - today there are many car services where their knowledge is adequately paid...

KAMAZ OJSC installs automatic transmissions from the German company ZF on its trucks, including military ones. The ZF-KAMA plant operates in Naberezhnye Chelny, but there is only assembly and machining of shafts and gears, and there is also a foundry nearby (also with a foreign partner). The Germans will never transfer key technologies to us - they say so themselves. That is, at any moment our supplies will be cut off after a command is received from the US State Department to Germany. I have already spoken about this.

The world's leading manufacturer of automatic transmissions for heavy equipment is Allison Transmission, Inc. The share of this company in global production is over 90%, the rest is ZF, VOITH, Volvo Trucks and a number of other manufacturers. There is a US monopoly. It is not surprising that many samples of military equipment of our potential enemy (BAT and armored vehicles) are equipped with Allison gearboxes.

Based on the above, it is not surprising that Allison automatic transmissions were installed on Typhoons (and Ural and KAMAZ). But as long as the Typhoon project has not gone beyond the prototype stage, any “vegetable garden” can be fenced off. What will happen if a miracle happens and they decide to supply vehicles of this class to supply the RF Armed Forces? KAMAZ is already planning mass production, but what boxes will they install? AZ "Ural" has the same problems...

They work separately on the topic of automatic transmission in the Republic of Belarus. Since Soviet times, strong design teams have been preserved there; GMP developments are available at MZKT and BELAZ. Moreover, MZKT OJSC was forced by circumstances to carry out new developments of GMP. Some time ago, MZKT won a tender for the supply of army tractors to Turkey, and under the terms of the contract, these tractors were supposed to be supplied with automatic transmissions from Allison Transmission, Inc. However, the US imposed an embargo. The contract was eventually completed anyway; As far as I know, the Belarusians made do with “mechanics”, but they came to a conclusion, and today they have their own automatic transmission developments, and this is not just one gearbox, but a family! Whether the development will be brought to fruition is a question, but in Russia this is not the case!

Why are none of the Russian businessmen eager to invest in this project? The fact is that huge investments are required, and they will not pay off in a year or two. And if suddenly the leadership of the RF Ministry of Defense changes again and a new furniture specialist comes in, the money may be thrown away. For commercial vehicles today, customers will prefer to buy GMP or DGP from foreign companies, but there will definitely be an embargo on the supply of imported automatic transmissions for Russian military equipment. All this in total means only one thing: without automatic transmission, Russian AMNs will not be able to surpass imported equipment. How this might affect the course of hostilities if war happens, I think there is no need to explain. However, when the matter is under the vigilant control of the highest political leadership and personal responsibility is established, domestic developments surpass the best world level!

If there is a problem with the GMF, then the tires are still only half the problem, although similar problems are rapidly growing. At the conference there was a lot of talk about the need to increase the axle load, otherwise it would be impossible to increase the load capacity. But this immediately gives rise to a new problem - the required tires are not produced in the Russian Federation.

The 425/85 R21 tire of the Kama 1260 model produced today is morally outdated, and the resource for further improvement of its design has been exhausted. You can modernize the tread pattern, but this does not solve the main thing - with these tires the promising AMN family will never meet the requirements of the military.

At the end of 2011, KAMAZ submitted to the KAMA Research and Development Center technical requirements for a new tire for a promising new generation platform with heavy and medium load capacity. An analysis carried out by tire manufacturers showed that the combined design of truck tires does not allow them to meet a number of requirements, including combat resistance. A possible solution to the problem is the creation of a new generation of tires with an all-steel cord construction. But it turned out that it was impossible to produce the required tire size and design using the equipment available at the plant.

As a solution to the problem, tire manufacturers propose creating a new production facility. The cost of the equipment will be approximately 1.5 billion rubles, but here we must also add the cost of construction, installation, commissioning and other work. Since this tire is needed only by the military, commercial structures, taught by arm-twisting from a furniture science specialist, are not particularly willing to invest in this project. Therefore, the implementation of the project is possible only with the participation of the state.

As a temporary measure, it is possible to develop a combat-resistant tire based on the 390/95 R20 tire of the Kama-Ural model, but it will not be possible to fully meet the military requirements, although an attempt will be made to get as close to them as possible.

The military’s requirements specifically state that the raw materials for the tires must be Russian. However, it is impossible in principle to fulfill this requirement of the RF Ministry of Defense. At the conference it was reported that in order to meet the requirements in the composition of raw materials for the manufacture of tires, the share of natural rubber will be at least 60% (with higher speed characteristics of the tire and their combination with load requirements, the share of imported raw materials is close to 100%), and there is nothing to replace it with.

Military requirements for AMS

How does the customer imagine the appearance of a military vehicle of the future?

The requirement for mobility comes first. It is necessary to increase the average speed of movement over rough terrain from the current 35 km/h to 45–50 km/h. But to do this, a set of problems will have to be solved, including the development of new power plants, suspensions, etc.

Carrying capacity is placed in second place. Machines of the family must be able to transport loads in the range from 4 tons to a minimum of 24 tons, and machines with a load capacity of 28–30 tons are also needed. This requirement will force an increase in axle loads, for which it is necessary to develop new frames, suspensions, tires, etc. In third place are security issues. The design of the AMN must include protection from both mine explosions and small arms fire. Moreover, it does not matter for what purposes the car is intended - for transporting personnel, installing weapons and military equipment (WME), or for transporting property. Protection may vary depending on consumer requirements (ballistic and mine resistance), but should not be lower than the established level.

The composition of the future family is already known: it is expected to include cars with 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 wheel formulas, and perhaps the family will be expanded to include a 10x10 car. The attention of car designers was also drawn to the requirements of weapons and military equipment developers who use AMN for the installation of weapons.

Some design teams have already started development, and it is hoped that by the end of 2013 prototypes will be shown to the Customer. It is expected that the new family will go into service in 2015.
