Review of Khoper 900 walk-behind tractors. Description, characteristics, owner reviews

Hopper 900 is a popular Russian-made walk-behind tractor that enjoys well-deserved recognition in a number of CIS countries. The machine has a universal design, which allows you to install a lot of additional equipment, and thereby make the walk-behind tractor more functional. The device is manufactured by a well-known Russian company that works closely with Chinese manufacturers. The Hoper brand appeared in 2010, and over the seven years of its existence it has seriously strengthened its position in the transport industry. Hopper 900 is one of the most affordable walk-behind tractors offered on the Russian market.

General information

Please note that almost all components of the walk-behind tractor are made in China. Finished parts are delivered to Russia for final assembly. It is worth noting that the model range of the Khoper company, which includes the Khoper 900 itself, is largely unified and copied with the original walk-behind tractors from the famous companies Kadvi and Zirka. But despite this, the Hopper 900 is in no way inferior to its “ancestors”. At the same time, the cost of the model is much lower compared to the originals.

Functions

The high popularity of the machine is primarily due to its low price, otherwise no one would buy the model, given the fierce competition in the walk-behind tractor market. The equipment can be equipped with a variety of equipment, which will significantly increase the versatility of the model. So, depending on the type of attachment options, Hope 900 is capable of performing the following tasks:

  • Harrowing plowed soil
  • Hilling up root crops
  • Mowing grass and small bushes
  • Existing trailer for transporting dug up root crops and other cargo
  • Cleaning and sweeping the area
  • Potato planter. They can also be used to plant other crops
  • Digging up ripened root vegetables
  • Availability of special attachments for snow removal.

High functionality and durability allow the Hopper 900 to be used almost 24 hours a day, all year round. And coupled with additional equipment, the walk-behind tractor is quite capable of replacing heavier and clumsier equipment, such as tractors. Hopper 900 is easy to learn and does not require skill, so there should be no problems with its operation. The power of the machine is such that it is capable of processing small areas. But their area should not exceed 1 hectare.

Causes and troubleshooting

There are some reasons that affect the operation of the walk-behind tractor. Below are the main ones and troubleshooting methods.

Engine power has dropped.

It often happens that a serviceable motor, which previously did not cause any problems, loses power and does not work at full capacity. To do this, you need to check the following options:

  • The fuel pump is clogged.
  • The crankcase cuff has lost its functionality.
  • The appearance of carbon deposits on the cylinder or muffler.
  • The air filter has become unusable.
  • No compression. To eliminate this problem, you need to replace the piston rings, cylinder, and piston.

The engine does not respond to starting

Possible reasons:

  • The walk-behind tractor is on a slope.
  • Check fuel supply.
  • Check the quality of the air filter.
  • Clogged outlet in the gas tank cap.
  • Check spark plugs and wire connections.

The engine is unstable and stalls

Possible reasons:

  • The engine has warmed up a little.
  • The service life of the spark plugs has expired.
  • Lack of contact or poor fit of the wires to the spark plug.
  • Magneto failure.

Gearbox failure occurs for several reasons, among which the most basic are insufficient lubrication or the occurrence of a belt defect, in the case of an installed belt gearbox. It also happens that due to excessive load, the gear teeth become deformed.

Clutch and transmission. The most common repair of the transmission of a Hopper walk-behind tractor involves adjusting the clutch. In cases where the clutch “drives”, that is, when the lever is pressed all the way, the device tries to move forward, then the adjusting screw should be unscrewed. If the clutch slips (when the lever is released, the walk-behind tractor remains in place or produces a low number of revolutions), then the adjustment screw must be tightened completely. After completing the adjustment work, the screw should be locked to maintain its position. However, often the adjustment does not help and you have to disassemble the clutch for repairs.

Disassembling the clutch occurs in the following sequence:

  1. Drain the used oil from the housing. Then disconnect the engine and the flange from the transmission;
  2. Using a wire hook, disconnect the spring from the pressure plate, then remove it;
  3. Remove the clutch fungus and all discs;
  4. Using a screwdriver, remove the lock washer;
  5. Fix the position of the drum so that it does not rotate, and unscrew the nut from the drum. An important factor is that the threads in this device are left-handed. Take this into account when disassembling;
  6. Disconnect the drum.

Reassembly should be done in reverse order.

Important! Before the opening of the field season, check the functionality of the mechanisms and lubricate all parts and components. If extraneous noise occurs during operation, you should immediately turn off the walk-behind tractor.

Advantages

The walk-behind tractor has a number of undeniable advantages in its price category. For example, it is possible to adjust the depth of tillage. We also note the reliable operation of the three-speed gearbox, in which there are two forward gears and one reverse gear. The modern transmission improves maneuverability and smoothness, and, if necessary, allows you to quickly return to missed untreated areas. The design also includes a belt clutch. Its ease of maintenance is highly commendable.

The Hopper 900 will ideally cope with heavy off-road conditions thanks to its massive wheels. Moreover, this technique can even process virgin soil and remove frozen soil. Thanks to the compact dimensions of the Hopper 900, its owner will experience maximum ease of use when processing areas with various obstacles, such as trees and large stones. In any case, the walk-behind tractor was originally conceived as a means for working with soil in hard-to-reach places. In addition, the walk-behind tractor can be easily adjusted due to the presence of horizontal and vertical adjustments. Large rubber wheels are designed to overcome various obstacles, including real off-road conditions.

Another important advantage of the walk-behind tractor is its engine. We are talking about a power plant from Lifan. The engine, known under the index 168, has proven itself in successfully performing most operations. And for convenient transportation of the walk-behind tractor, a special metal bracket is provided. In addition, the list of equipment includes a casing. It is a kind of protection against flying soil during its processing.

Cost of spare parts

No matter how high-quality the equipment is, it may need spare parts. For example, you can purchase a wheel hub for 720 rubles. But the pulley for the engine costs 340 rubles. You can buy a set of transport wheels for RUB 3,890.

When considering spare parts for walk-behind tractors, you should compare their costs. For example, an adapter will cost 995 rubles. But the assembled wheel costs 1990 rubles. You can buy a tire and wheel tube for 1,690 rubles. The control knob will cost 3,000 rubles.

Attachments

In addition to the operating instructions and technical passport, the basic set of the walk-behind tractor includes cutters and wheels. As for additional equipment, let's look at the most common attachments for the Hopper 900:

  • Mower – rotary or segment. This option, depending on the type, allows you to efficiently and carefully mow large volumes of grass and small shrubs.
  • Weighting material - increases the weight of the walk-behind tractor, and thereby improves its load-carrying capacity, and also allows you to work with heavier soil or virgin soil.
  • The harrow is an attachment for real professionals. With its help, you can process the soil depending on its width.
  • Potato digger - there are several types. As the name suggests, its main purpose is digging up root crops.
  • A potato planter is the same thing, only of the opposite type - for planting potatoes.
  • Hiller. You can use it to cultivate a variety of crops
  • Milling cutters
  • A blade shovel is a kind of “cleaner” of the area from debris and snow
  • Grunt - prevents slipping on viscous soil. Ideally combined with weights, and thereby doubly increasing the traction characteristics of the walk-behind tractor. To install the option, you must remove the standard wheels.
  • Cart – allows you to transport various loads

Subtleties of operation

Considering that the buyer receives the product in disassembled form, you will first have to use the assembly and operating instructions. After studying the operational material, you can proceed to the first start-up and run-in. To do this, gasoline and oil are added to the unit, because the containers themselves are initially empty.

It is important to understand that the break-in time will be several hours; it is during this period of time that the product will have to be tested with a minimum load

The engine should not overheat, and therefore you can immediately work with an empty trailer. After eight hours, the parts need to be lubricated before they can function properly. After the rollback time is over, it is necessary to change the engine oil, since it will contain a lot of mechanical impurities

It is also important to carry out technical work on time, which includes adjusting valves, changing transmission oil and lubricating control levers. For example, the engine oil will have to be changed after 25 hours

walk-behind tractor operation. The transmission must be changed after 100.

Run-in

Before using the Hoper 900 walk-behind tractor for the first time, it is recommended to run it completely. To do this you need to follow a few simple steps:

  • Measure the oil and fuel levels and add fluid if necessary.
  • When you first start the engine, let it run for 5-10 minutes at idle speed.
  • Turn off the engine and let it rest for about 20 minutes, then start the engine again and check how quickly all gears are engaged in the gearbox. In addition to the transmission, during break-in it is advisable to check the operation of all important components and assemblies.
  • The total break-in time reaches about 12 hours. During this procedure, you should not exceed the load by more than half to avoid overheating. After break-in, you should measure the oil and fuel levels again and, if necessary, add fluid.

Additional consumer opinions on operational features

Buyers who have already enjoyed the quality of the described equipment note that the engine is capable of operating even at low temperatures. The walk-behind tractor can handle soil cultivation in one pass on wet soil. But if you have to work with black soil or heavy soil, then the equipment may not achieve the goal the first time. Some areas, according to consumers, have to be processed 6 times, which makes it possible to break up the lumps.

Owner reviews of the Khoper 900 walk-behind tractor indicate that fuel consumption is very economical. If your site is located on a slope, then you can have no doubt and purchase the described walk-behind tractor model. She will be able to cope with processing such an area quite quickly.

According to some buyers, over several years of operation the machine has caused almost no trouble. You don’t have to resort to repairs so often; problems can only arise with the belt. For some consumers, the dimensions mentioned above are quite impressive, which can negatively affect maneuvering and storing equipment.

Engine

The equipment is equipped with a Lifan 168 gasoline engine. This 4-stroke engine has proven itself well in the garden equipment segment. It is reliable and unpretentious, despite the fact that it belongs to the non-professional segment. The main advantages of the engine are efficiency, ease of maintenance and endurance.

The Chinese single-cylinder unit with a displacement of 0.2 liters develops 6.5 horsepower.

Owner reviews

  • Pavel, Irkutsk. A wonderful walk-behind tractor for all occasions. This is how you need to save, and at the same time not regret the money spent. I bought it in winter, because during this period similar equipment costs even less. Good reviews immediately made me buy this miracle. For its price, the walk-behind tractor has practically no drawbacks. Of course, it breaks, but you can turn a blind eye to this, given the cheap spare parts. Besides, I have my own garage. I regularly run it in to avoid unexpected breakdowns.
  • Alexey, Stavropol region. I bought it in 2015. Even now I can say that I made the right choice in favor of the Hopper 900. It met all my expectations. Problems arise with reliability, but high cross-country ability eliminates all the disadvantages. Overall, I'm pleased.
  • Vladimir, Krasnodar region. I bought myself a Chinese one for pennies, and I’ve been happy for the second year now. I am no longer young, and the need for such technology has arisen. For my 10 acres there is plenty to spare. Plowing, planting, transporting loads - all this happens quickly and efficiently with the Hopper 900.
  • Nikolay, Smolensk. The equipment is quite powerful for its price, supports cheap 92-grade gasoline, and consumes only one and a half liters. A manual starter allows you to start the unit with half a turn. In general, I would call the Hopper 900 a good purchase for small areas. But for large vegetable gardens, its resource, alas, is not enough.
  • Mikhail, Ryazan. For me, the Hopper 900 is a rational choice for an avid summer resident like me, who is economical and loves to weigh the pros and cons. I’ll immediately note the low reliability of the walk-behind tractor, but this drawback is compensated for by cheap spare parts. In addition, you can do some tricks with your own hands. Fuel consumption is only 1.5 liters, well, maximum 2.0. I’ve trained myself not to particularly find fault with technology at this price.

Review: Hopper 900 petrol walk-behind tractor - One of our most successful and necessary purchases.

Buying a walk-behind tractor is by no means an indulgence, and it is simply necessary if:
- you have a fairly large plot; - there are few men in your family, and digging up the earth with shovels is too long a process; - the soil dries out unevenly in the spring (it’s like ours - the top of the garden is already ready for cultivation, but the bottom is still very wet - all agricultural work is slowed down!)

We bought our Hopper three years ago in winter, because in winter such equipment becomes much cheaper. We don’t need a cultivator, so we chose a regular gasoline walk-behind tractor at a fairly budget price:

I really hope that it will never occur to my husband to use a walk-behind tractor as a vehicle (you’ve probably seen craftsmen who attach trailers to walk-behind tractors - and go ahead), then I’ll just laugh.

I am for the intended use, that is, for plowing. And plowing is carried out using two side cutters with a diameter of 35 cm, which are put on instead of wheels:

and the plow itself:

Let's look at the technical specifications.

The dimensions of the walk-behind tractor are 130X55X110 cm, and what bothers us most about them is the “wing span” - in order to drive the Hopper into the barn, you have to remove one of them, although the door is not small in width. Well, where would we be without them? - the work is quite dusty, and the engine doesn’t like dust:

If you don’t pay attention to this inconvenience, then, in principle, you still can’t call it a large-sized colossus:

Nevertheless, this “baby” weighs like an adult - 74 kg (net). It will be quite difficult for a woman (especially if the ground is loose - the plow gets buried, sometimes the walk-behind tractor has to be rocked).

About the engine: -four-stroke single-cylinder, with forced air cooling - standard for walk-behind tractors (although there are also diesel ones). To be really powerful, I won’t say, 6.5 liters. With. Of course, there are two-cylinder ones with a lot of horsepower, but they cost an order of magnitude more (there was one in the store, domestic, for 60 thousand).

The engine is located obliquely at the top:

In general, when we first started thinking about buying a walk-behind tractor, the engine was not the least of our interests. And to be honest, we have never heard of the 168 F-2Q (Chinese) engine (my husband is an auto mechanic, and my education and work experience allows me to talk about the topic). But the price was too tempting, and they gave a one-year guarantee. The engine has not failed yet (by the way, my neighbor’s domestic engine failed after a year). Not everything is perfect with us either - the engine shutdown button quickly broke down, we have to short it to ground. We fill up with 92-grade gasoline (on the advice of the seller), the oil seems to be expensive, on the one hand (300 rubles per liter - special, for four-stroke engines), but on the other hand, we filled it once - the very first time - and more so far not required). He also doesn’t eat much gasoline, three liters to plow 10 acres twice. The starter is manual, it doesn’t work right away, you have to pull it three times:

The fuel tank is small, 3.6 liters:

Neck with restrictor:

But these home-grown technologies always infuriate me (I mean “crazy hands” - homemade funnels and all that):

It is very convenient that almost all the instructions for use are displayed on the case. I post three photos - but he’s all in those. specifications, safety precautions, notes, reminders, etc.:

The fastenings of the cutters and plow are very good, their strength is beyond doubt. To remove the wheel and put on the cutter, you have to tilt the walk-behind tractor - this is what my husband and I do together. Keeping the walk-behind tractor in an inclined position with the emphasis on one wheel is not difficult; replacement takes literally 5 minutes:

In principle, everything is ready, you can plow. You have to plow twice in the spring, and once in the fall (after harvesting the soil is already dug up):

After two such spring passes, the shovel goes into the ground just on the bayonet:

As for noise, it is no more than during operation of other models and manufacturers. Thus, it takes us about 40 minutes to process 10 acres. So if the money doesn’t allow you to buy an expensive walk-behind tractor, then take a closer look at this model - it has proven itself just great for us!

Py. Sy. How to collect petals. Are the petals cutters? If yes, then here are the explanations with the photo on the left cutter:

The blunt side is from the mount, the sharp side is inclined towards the ground (it crashes into it):

Externally, the cutter should look like this:
