If you want to make a mower using a chainsaw, you will need to insert a pipe into the bearing groove. There should be a gear located inside. Ears are welded to one end of the pipe, each of which is 2 cm long. Holes are drilled in them. You can make knives from a saw blade.

The lath is cut into the required number of equal strips. Rivets and bolts will allow you to fix the knives on the rotor disc. A metal strip can also serve as a base. When choosing the diameter of the rotor, you may prefer the traditional value, which is 39 cm. From a metal corner you can make a rigid frame, the parameters of which will be equal to the dimensions of a gasoline tool. There will be a rectangular stand inside the structure, on which the body rests. The connections must be made at right angles, and they must be made as rigid as possible.

Work methodology

Mounts for the handle and wheels should be welded to the frame. Hooks made of a metal rod will act as a support. At the next stage, you can begin installing the wheels. The chainsaw must be prepared; for this, the blades and chain are removed from it, and then attached to the frame.

In order to make a haymower from a grinder, you will have to cut a passenger car wheel disk into two parts. Only one part will be used in the work. This will allow you to obtain the equipment housing. The handle and wheels are attached to it using electric welding. An angle grinder is installed on top.

The enclosing casing on the unit must be secured as tightly as possible. At the next stage, the required holes are drilled in the frame and casing. Fastening is carried out using bolts. When assembling the mower with your own hands, you must remember that the working shaft of the main tool is not very long, so attaching the knife to it will be problematic.

To solve the problem, you need to screw a nut with an extended thread onto the shaft, only then can you start attaching the blades for the mower. With the help of the resulting tool you can fight short grass. A cavity can be created in the nose of the equipment, which will be intended for cutting grass. The nose part will not be pressed to the ground by the half-disc. To do this, part of the mower moves forward so that the grass is not laid on the ground before cutting, but has time to rise.

Construction of mower cart

This mower resembles a rotary mower, but is more complex in design. Its main advantage can be considered a large mowing force, which allows you to remove plants with a rigid tree-like stem, and in winter, through small design changes, use it as a snow blower. The basis of such a mower is a welded frame made of iron corners, mounted on 4 wheels, perhaps from a baby stroller. A floor made of sheet metal or at least thick plywood is placed on the frame. The frame parameters may vary, but a rectangle of 80 by 40 cm is considered optimal.

2 rotating drums are installed on the frame, which can be used as large-capacity cans. The lid and bottom of such a jar are cut out and replaced with wooden circles. Cans can be replaced with disks made of sheet metal. They need to be made in the amount of 8 pieces, 4 of which should be external and have a diameter of 20 cm, and 4 - internal, with a diameter of 17 cm.

They should be connected in pairs, the larger one with the smaller one, using bolts, and 4 knives should be attached to each disk at an equal distance from each other. They must rotate freely, for which a gap of about 1 mm must be left between the blade and the surface of the disk. All that remains is to insert the bushing into the drum and secure it to the frame.

On the frame you need to install a cross member from an iron angle 35 by 35 mm. The side parts of this corner need to be cut off by the same 35 mm so that M5 bolts can be screwed in. The drums are connected by a transport belt, for which the corners must be equipped with grooves 13 mm wide. The lower drum bushing is movably attached, and special tension corner parts are attached to the upper ends of the drums. They are tightened to the ends of the transverse angle using M5 screws 6.5 cm long. The design as a whole is quite understandable. The conveyor belt can be made of a strip of thick rubber, which is connected into a ring with a 2 mm thick aluminum plate.

Making a manual segment mower

If you plan to make a manual mower in the form of a segment device, then you should use metal bars with dimensions of 15x50x120 mm. Holes are drilled in each of them to install bolts. A guide rail is attached to the latter; its length should be 90 cm. The knives on it are located on both sides of the beam. The ends of the latter are fixed with runners and clamps.

At the bottom of the frame you need to fix a wheel, which you can borrow from a stroller or children's bicycle. The cutting part of a manual mower will operate under the influence of a walk-behind tractor. However, even if you assemble the unit correctly, then in any case you must follow the recommendations for installing the equipment.

The walk-behind tractor must be set to reverse mode. The coupling socket houses the connecting unit. Using a kingpin with a spring, you must secure the connection, otherwise the towing mechanism will not work. The mower blades should be protected with a guard during installation. The weights located on the wheels should be removed, because they will not be needed for mowing the grass. Work must begin by engaging the clutch, setting it to minimum speed.

Installing the mower on a walk-behind tractor

Properly manufacturing a mower for a walk-behind tractor is not all; it needs to be connected to the walk-behind tractor. Assembly Guide:

  1. Activate reverse.
  2. Any installation manipulations to the PTO are performed by moving the unit into the mounting socket.
  3. Secure the connection using a pin with a spring. Missing spring may cause damage.
  4. Cover the knives while working.
  5. Remove weights from the wheels of the walk-behind tractor (needed for working with soil).
  6. Mowing occurs at low speeds.
  7. Maneuvers should be smooth.

Regardless of the type of walk-behind mower you make yourself, you need to ensure that everything is securely fastened and installed. Safety is very important.

Features of manufacturing a rotary mower

The rotary device is used for harvesting grass and mowing lawns. The equipment will be able to chop small vegetation, and mow tall vegetation to the roots. Homemade mowers of this type are attached to a walk-behind tractor; due to their small size, they are simply not suitable for a tractor.

To carry out the work, you should prepare two disks borrowed from a grain seeder. You will need a chain and gearbox from the saw. For each disk it is necessary to prepare four metal knives made of hardened alloy. To install them, 6 mm holes are drilled in each disk. The tire will allow you to fix the knives on the disks so that there is a gap between them that exceeds the thickness of each of the knives by 2 mm.

Types of mowers for walk-behind tractors

You can find a mower for a walk-behind tractor in stores or make it yourself. Don’t rush and start making equipment yourself. First, you need to compare the prices of haymowers in stores; they are not as small as we would like, but not exorbitant.

But the models have a number of advantages: the lateral equipment of the equipment eliminates the possibility of working with already mown grass, unlike rotary options. When mowing, moving cutting parts move along the topography of the ground, repeating the landscape. This mechanism allows you to cut plants almost to the very root.

The mower operates with a blade deflection of 20 degrees, this allows you to process even the most uneven areas of the ground. The mechanism for activating and disabling the equipment is not at all connected with the walk-behind tractor drive. This solution allows you to easily turn off the mower in dangerous situations.

The balance of knives in segment versions is adjusted to the maximum, which allows reducing vibrations in the structure to a minimum.

Cart mower (drum)

The design is similar to the rotary model, but the mechanism is a little more complicated. The mower is made of drums, which are fastened with a frame and fastenings with a tape.
