Areas of use
The areas of use of the bulldozer mentioned, depending on the configuration, include:
- Agriculture;
- road construction;
- logging;
- snow removal work.
The peculiarity of the use of special equipment of this class lies in the mounted attachments, which allow a wide range of work: from uprooting and snow removal to complex repair and construction activities on the road.
Without bulldozers of this type, work such as effective clearing of areas for construction sites, backfilling of trenches and ravines, and construction of embankments would be impossible.
The main types of attachments include the blade and ripper. Straight and hemispherical blades are used for surface leveling and other excavation work.
Rippers are designed for moldless soil loosening. They are divided into single-tooth and multi-tooth (maximum number of teeth - 3).
Technical characteristics of T-170
The cabins that equipped the T-170 bulldozers had a frame structure. Their installation was carried out on a vibration-isolated platform.

The chassis had five-roller bogies as standard (this solution was traditional for bulldozers of the 10th traction class). If the buyer planned to operate the machine on soft soils, it was possible to install seven-roller carts. Also in this case, wider shoes were offered (900 mm). As a result of these decisions, the pressure on the ground decreased. The trolley suspension is semi-rigid three-point. The tension mechanism was hydraulic. Type of shoes: single ridge.
Number of road wheels on each side | 5 |
Number of support rollers on each side | 2 |
Track Shoe Width | 500 mm |
Number of track shoes per side | 38 |
Specific ground pressure | 0.076 MPa |
The gearbox is four-shaft. Its design included constant mesh gears, which made it possible to provide eight forward gears and four reverse gears. The clutch is a permanently closed type, dry friction. The gear shift lever and range selector lever were used to change gears. For safety reasons, starting the engine was impossible in cases where the right range lever was not in neutral. The braking system was represented by multi-disc side clutches and dry friction band brakes. The type of hydraulic system is separate-unit, with a gear-type pump.

Exploitation
In 2002, the T 170 bulldozer was discontinued. But even today this machine can often be seen on construction sites. This speaks volumes about the ratio of the main advantages of equipment in this class - cost/quality.
The machine works with any soil. Easy replacement of attachments. The engine hour meter indicates the time for oil and lubricant changes.
Ease of transportation: the dimensions of the T 170 are designed for railway platforms and trailers.
There are never any problems with spare parts: Uralremtrak regularly produces spare parts today. You can also make a cap there. repair or carry out maintenance.
Speaking about the use of a tractor in various fields of activity, many highlight the main advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages:
- Machine reliability.
- The cost of the tractor is relatively low compared to its analogues.
- Maintainability.
- Operation in various climatic zones.
- Extensive dealer network of the ChTZ Plant, availability of spare parts.
- The tractor's engine life reaches 10 thousand engine hours.
- A significant plus is the ability of the T-170 to operate on various types of fuel.
Flaws:
- To transport a bulldozer on a railway platform, it is necessary to dismantle the attachments.
- The weak point is the friction clutches. Often need replacement because... They haven't changed since the T 130.
- Difficult steering (and in need of repair).
- Insufficient cabin sealing.
However, all this is compensated by the low cost, power and convenient operation of the T 170.

Electrical equipment of the machine
Electrical equipment is powered by batteries and a DC generator. Batteries are required to start the engine using an electric starter. The onboard power supply voltage is 24 Volts. Two 12 Volt batteries are connected in series with a jumper. This sums the voltage readings of both batteries, and allows you to start the starter running on 24 V.
After starting the engine, the equipment is powered and the batteries are charged by the generator. The generator and batteries are connected in parallel. The generator is driven by a belt, from the cooling impeller pulley. The generator has a voltage regulation function for winter and summer seasons. Adjustment is carried out by a mechanical switch.
Cabin and control station
The T-170 tractor is equipped with a frame operator's cabin. The cabin is placed on elastic cushions. This reduces vibration levels during operation. The cabin has all-round glazing. This gives the operator a large viewing angle when operating the machine.
On modern models, the cabin is equipped with specialized protection. It eliminates the death of the operator when the machine overturns. The headlights are located at the top of the cabin. They illuminate the area in front and behind the tractor at night.
The operator's seat is located in the cabin. The tractor control levers are located next to the seat. This reduces the degree of fatigue of the tractor driver during long-term work. On the front wall of the cabin there is a panel of control and measuring instruments. Instrument readings allow the operator to monitor the operation of systems and mechanisms. Next to the instrument panel there are switches for headlights, windshield wipers, etc.
