The engine is good - in fact, it is a licensed Renova diesel engine, plus an excellent ZF gearbox, no complaints at all. Of the minuses - the radiators suck, they are thin aluminum, they immediately changed them everywhere to copper ones. Well, electronics are nothing at all, immediately change them to Boshevskaya or any other and you won’t have any grief. In terms of consumption – 24-25 liters, no more.
Gennady, Omsk. I drive a MAZ-5440 with a 412 hp Renault engine, 2011. A very good engine, I am completely satisfied with it, it pulls great, and the consumption is not that high - with a full load it is about 30 liters, when I first bought it it was 32-33 liters.
Alexey, Tver. I took delivery of the car in 2014, almost new – 4000 km. With a 20 ton trailer it goes briskly and climbs well. There are no complaints about the engine, gearbox or chassis at all. The interior of the cabin is lousy; after the first flight, everything had to be redone because the panels simply fell off. Consumption is from 23 to 27 liters of diesel fuel, in winter it increases by 2 liters somewhere.
Rustam, Naberezhnye Chelny. The consumption of my MAZ-5440 greatly depends on the route, weather conditions and wind strength. A basic MAZ-5340V2 truck costs from 3.2 million rubles. Cars of other modifications are on average 200-300 thousand rubles more expensive. MAZ fuel consumption

The leading place among trucks is occupied by MAZ vehicles, which have proven themselves during the USSR. They also represent the Russian automobile industry at international competitions held in Africa and the Middle East.

And everything would be great, but MAZ has one drawback - high fuel consumption, which does not quite meet the requirements of cargo carriers. Currently, new systems are being developed to monitor the fuel consumption of MAZ vehicles.

The MAZ 5340 has a 4 by 2 wheel arrangement, which provides it with better maneuverability and controllability compared to models built according to a 6 by 4 design. The vehicle is based on a ladder frame (2 spars with cross members), made of high-strength steel. Suspensions consisting of 2 longitudinal semi-elliptical springs are installed on both axles (in the front there are additionally hydraulic shock absorbers and stabilizers). MAZ 5340 is equipped with a reinforced suspension that allows you to move on poor road surfaces. Optionally, the rear axle can be equipped with air suspension.

The series uses exclusively ZF mechanical transmissions (9, 12 or 16 speeds). All torque is supplied to the driven rear axle with a lockable cross-axle differential.
