We will not judge how successful it was for both sides, but what is known for sure is the undoubted connection of this alliance with the appearance of some “medium-tonnage trucks” in the MAZ line. Even for people far from the auto industry, the similarity of the then Minsk “new products” with some German trucks is so obvious that we won’t talk about it again. And to justify the Belarusians, let us recall that there was no absolute copying - there was “borrowing and processing for local needs.” The MAZ 4370 clutch disc was its own development and was superior in technical performance to its main competitors.

Although mass production of the Zubrenok is usually counted from 2003, its real “year of birth” is still 1999. Already at the development stage, various modifications of the MAZ-4370 were designed for their intended purpose - for urban, suburban and nearby regional transportation, for work in agriculture and construction sites.

And depending on the purpose, place and year of production, various power units were installed on the car, and the designation of the clutch unit MAZ 4370

In fact, all the “notches” are powered by Minsk Motor engines, which is quite understandable - for such a car, in terms of maintainability and price gap, there is simply no other option other than native diesel engines. very different. The fact is that, in addition to the year of manufacture, the choice of clutch type was influenced by the fact for whom this car was intended - for Belarusians or for export (and Russia was also considered abroad).

But still, from a large number of options, two main ones can be distinguished. The first is a standard tractor basket with three “legs” and with ordinary peripheral springs, with a MAZ 4370 clutch disc and splines that are sized for Smolensk plant gearboxes.

In another case, a MAZ leaf clutch is used, or rather Sachs, because it is these imported pressure-type units with 360 mm discs that are most often installed today on a “cog.” By the way, you won’t be able to figure out which clutch it is by looking at the VIN code, so be sure to ask about this point in advance.

The MAZ clutch is a double-disc friction type device. It has springs that are located peripherally. The MAZ clutch device also includes discs. The elements are made of durable materials. The MAZ clutch is installed in a crankcase made of strong cast iron. The leading parts of the mechanism are the MAZ clutch disc (middle and pressure) and the MAZ flywheel. 1. The MAZ clutch has a complex structure

The MAZ 4370 truck is a medium-tonnage low-loader cargo truck, developed and produced at the Minsk Automobile Plant. Cars of the MCV category belong to cargo vehicles with a permissible minimum weight of 3.5 tons (class N2). The unofficial nickname of the MAZ 4370 became “Zubrenok”, and under this name the truck went down in history. Production of the model started in mid-1999, and during production the base model was repeatedly modernized.

How to replace

Replacing a MAZ PSU involves installing new hoses and lines. All units must have an internal diameter of at least 8 mm.

The replacement procedure consists of the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the lines from the old assembly and unscrew the mounting points.
  2. Remove the unit from the vehicle.
  3. Install a new unit in its original place and replace damaged lines.
  4. Tighten the mounting points to the required torque. It is recommended to replace worn or rusty hardware products with new ones.
  5. After installing the CCGT unit, it is necessary to check the misalignment of the working rods, which should not exceed 3 mm.

Engines for MAZ 4370

The MAZ 4370 cargo Zubrenok was produced in four modifications, which differed in power plants. Initially, the Belarusian MMZ D-245 engine was installed on the truck. The engine did not meet European environmental standards, so it needed improvement. Quite quickly it was replaced with an improved version D-245.30, which already complied with the Euro-2 standard. A few years later, the engine was further refined to the Euro-3 standard. In addition to Minsk engines, the MAZ 4370 was equipped with the German Deutz BF4M 1013FC engine, which meets Euro-3. But the latest modifications can be found relatively rarely in Russia.

Engine MAZ 4370 D-245

The main engine for the MAZ 4370 was the Belarusian D-245. This is a turbocharged diesel engine, which has appeared on many models of tractors and special equipment and has proven itself in both operation and maintenance. The 4.75-liter engine has 1.5 thousand revolutions per minute and generates 157 hp. This allows it to be high-torque on the one hand, and on the other hand have good fuel efficiency: in the combined cycle, consumption per “hundred” reaches 17 liters.

An alternative propulsion system was the Deutz BF4M 1013FC - a four-stroke diesel engine with four cylinders, liquid-cooled, a turbocharger and direct fuel injection. The valves are located on top. Starter 12V/24V. If we compare the Deutz BF4M 1013FC with the D-245, then the technical characteristics are approximately the same. But Zubrenok with Deutz BF4M 1013FC works much quieter.

- pump air into the system - turn on the ignition - press the clutch pedal several times - ask someone to press and not release the clutch pedal - climb under the car (to the left of the gearbox) - look at the picture (above) - where the bleeder fitting is located - use a key No. 8, unscrew it a little (to let the air out) - repeat the procedure several times (adding fluid to the reservoir) - now the clutch pedal should become elastic and everything should work!

- remove the fitting for the nipple (the rubber hose remains) - unscrew the top cover and pull out the handle with cuffs - pour clutch fluid into the pump tube - assemble the pump - press on the pump handle (liquid should flow from the hose) - that's it - the device for “bleeding is ready” !

Now the most important thing is ahead!

— we climb under the CAR — unscrew the tube from the PSU fitting (No. 14 on the PSU) — screw the bleeder fitting all the way — put the hose from our homemade device on it and press on the handle — liquid should flow from the tube fitting (No. 14 on the PSU) — if it leaks, it means indirectly the PSU is working! - if not, we remove the PSU and then repair it or figure it out ourselves! - if the fluid has leaked - screw on the fitting tube and climb out from under the AUTO - look under the hood on the left - under the expansion tank - under the reservoir itself we see a plastic tubular CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER - unscrew the tube from below - climb under the AUTO - again push the liquid into the bleeder fitting - now liquid should flow from the hose under the hood - if it doesn’t flow, blow out the hose (this is the same hose that we unscrewed from the PSU) - if it flows, screw it back into place

Gearbox MAZ 4370

The truck was produced with three different transmissions:

  1. ZIL-695D (Saransk, Russia) - the gearbox was installed in tandem with the D-245 engine on MAZ 437040;
  2. SAAZ-3206 - gearboxes were paired with improved D-245 engines (Euro-2 and Euro-2) on modifications MAZ 43704 and MAZ 437043, respectively;
  3. ZF S5-42 (Spain) - gearboxes were installed on modifications of the MAZ 437030, equipped with Deuts.

All available transmissions are five-speed manual. By design they are dry, single-disc friction. The clutch disc size can be 340 or 360 mm in diameter. A bevel gearbox and a cross-axle differential with locking are installed on the driving rear axle.

In addition to native gearboxes, which are not particularly reliable, Chinese-assembled gearboxes are offered for the MAZ 4370, for example 6J60T and 6J70T. They are designed by the American company Eaton and manufactured in China under contract. Unlike native gearboxes, Chinese ones have six speeds.

Adjustment process

For correct adjustment, you will need special spanner and open-end wrenches, as well as a caliper and a regular ruler. As a result of the work, the clutch disc on the MAZ 4370 should be in the correct position, ensuring correct functioning. The alignment process takes place in several stages:

  1. Setting the correct distance between the elements of the unit. To do this, you need to equalize the main disk withdrawal gap. At the same time, adjust the housing cover and the corresponding nuts.
  2. Setting up the clutch. After removing the crankcase and the hatch cover, changes are made to the main disk waste indicators. Setting the correct parameters of the clutch itself: a) turning off the unit; b) setting the gearbox lever to the neutral position; c) turning the flywheel and unscrewing the lock nut of the screws; d) unscrew all 4 screws until they stop; e) fixing the unscrewed screws with lock nuts; f) measuring the distance between the nut and the end, which should not be higher than 3.3 mm; g) after fixing the value, the fasteners are tightened and the box is assembled to its original position
  3. Checking operation for smoothness and correctness of gear shifting.

Tip: during adjustment, do not forget to lubricate the MAZ clutch release bearing with machine oil. So, you will increase the service life of the unit by reducing the friction of the elements.

In the MAZ 4370, the braking system is implemented independently for the front and rear axles. It is pneumatic and consists of the following components:

  • compressor;
  • receivers (compressed air cylinders);
  • pneumatic drives;
  • control devices;
  • braking mechanisms.

On regular cog trucks the compressor is single cylinder. Modifications of the MAZ 4370 for road trains were equipped with a two-cylinder compressor.

The direct element of the braking system are drum brakes. The drum is cast from cast iron, its diameter is 420 mm, and its thickness is 160 mm.

MAZ 4370 pads are made of steel. Overlays are installed on top of them. To adjust the distance between the drum and the pads, there is a corresponding lever.

The PGU unit on the MAZ is designed to reduce the force required to disengage the clutch. The machines contain units of our own design, as well as imported Wabco products. Chassis and suspension

The chassis and suspension of the MAZ 4370 deserve praise. It is largely due to the excellent quality of Zubrenok’s design and suspension assembly that it has become so widely used. With careful operation without major repairs, the chassis will last 250 thousand km, but even then, after replacing worn out elements, it will work for hundreds of thousands of kilometers without any problems.

The front spring of the MAZ 4370 consists of several sheets. The front suspension is equipped with hydraulic shock absorbers with stabilizers. The rear spring is semi-elliptical.

In general, this design gives a rough ride, but is easy and simple to repair and does not require special maintenance.

Wheel sizes range from 17 to 20”. The suitable tire size is 235/75R17.5.

History of creation

The Minsk Automobile Plant developed the concept of the future MAZ 4370 in cooperation with the Gorky Automobile Plant. The first conceptual low-frame, medium-tonnage trucks were designed by enterprise engineers in the 90s. But after the collapse of the USSR, MAZ decided to refuse cooperation with the Russian automobile plant, since for a number of reasons it became difficult to interact with representatives of another state. In this regard, Minsk decided to stop supplies for other trucks, in particular for MAZ 5336, cabs produced by GAZ.

Without abandoning the idea of ​​​​creating a medium-tonnage truck, Mazov engineers decided to take the MAN L 2000, assembled in Germany, as a prototype. Having adjusted a number of functions and increased the carrying capacity, the Minsk Automobile Plant created the MAZ 4370 Zubrenok exactly in the form in which it rolled off the assembly line in 1999.

Entering the Russian market

At the time the new product appeared on the Russian truck market, there were two main competitors in this class - GAZ 3310 and ZIL 5301. The Belarusian medium-duty truck outperformed them in several ways. Firstly, the cabin was more spacious and comfortable. Secondly, the carrying capacity of the new product was higher, which was perhaps the most powerful argument in its favor, all other things being equal. For a long time, the MAZ 4370 truck simply had no competitors in the domestic car market. Zubrenok is in high demand to this day.

In 2007, the Kama Automobile Plant launched onto the market a direct competitor to the Zubrenok MAZ 4370 - KamAZ 4308, which was popularly nicknamed “Kamazenok”. Not wanting to give up their position, the automaker worked on modernizing their truck. In 2010, the manufacturer introduced the second generation of Zubrenok. The updated truck received the MAZ 4371 index. It has a redesigned cabin, which has become even more comfortable to meet the requirements of the time. Also, the MAZ 4371 Zubrenok-2 was equipped with more environmentally friendly diesel engines.

How can you adjust a KAMAZ CCGT unit?

The final stage of device restoration is the adjustment of the KAMAZ PGU. To do this, it is necessary to ensure a full stroke of the pneumatic amplifier pusher of at least 25 mm . Because when the indicator is low, the clutch is completely disengaged. Thus, the full stroke of the pusher is tested by pressing the clutch pedal as hard as it will go.

On vehicles equipped with ABS, special holes are made in the rear axle brake pads (opposite the tension spring hooks) to allow removal or replacement of brake pads without disassembling the wheel drive.

At the end of the expansion cam shaft there is a worm-type adjusting lever (Fig. 1) connected to the brake chamber rod.

By turning worm 3 by the hexagonal head of the axle with a wrench, you can turn the expansion fist and, consequently, spread the brake pads, thereby reducing the gap between them and the drum.

To rotate the axis, plate 7 must be released and moved upward.

On vehicles, an adjustment lever with a built-in automatic regulator can be installed (Fig. 2).

To prevent lubricant from entering the brake mechanisms, rubber O-rings are installed in the brackets of the front and rear brake expansion knuckles.

The brake chambers are diaphragm, designed to activate the brake mechanisms of the front wheels of the car when the service brake system is turned on.

Brake chambers with spring energy accumulators (Fig. 3) are designed to activate the brake mechanisms of the wheels of the rear and middle axles when the service, parking and spare brake systems are engaged.
