The YuMZ 6 tractor is a real hard worker among the universal wheeled tractors. Most often used in agriculture and enterprises. The ability to install special-purpose equipment with replaceable working parts on the tractor makes it a universal road-building and earth-moving machine as an excavator, bulldozer or loader.

From 1966 to 2001, this equipment was produced by the well-known Southern Machine-Building Plant in a variety of versions, which were noticeably different from each other. The very first copy of the YuMZ 6 tractor first rolled off the assembly line back in 1966. Now it has been replaced by the MTZ-1221 tractor.

One of the tasks of Gorbachev’s perestroika, launched in the USSR in the second half of the 1980s, was to carry out a massive reorientation of defense factories to produce civilian products. The conversion process also reached the Omsk Transport Engineering Plant named after. October Revolution, which produced T-80 tanks - in the early 1990s, it was decided to start producing wheeled tractors at the plant, especially since orders from the Ministry of Defense for tanks practically stopped coming and hope remained only with foreign customers. A license was purchased from the Southern Machine-Building Plant for the production of YuMZ-6AK tractors, which had been produced there for a long time, in parallel with the plant’s main rocket production. The first tractors were produced at Omsk Transmash in 1993 under the symbol ZTM-60L. The tractors were produced both in the basic version and with various attachments; the most popular option was the EO-2621V-2 excavator.


Such excavators are used by all city services: water utilities, energy workers, and communications workers. The machine can go anywhere and work in very cramped conditions, the maximum digging depth is more than 4 meters. The transport speed is low - 24 km/h, but it is enough to move around the city. However, familiar signalmen said that once such an excavator was sent under its own power to Isilkul, 150 km away. He, of course, eventually got there, but the excavator driver practically fell out from behind the wheel, after which he told everyone around him in colorful terms exactly where he saw his excavator, this road, and especially the site manager who sent him there.

The tractors were also produced in a utility version - with a blade and a sweeping brush; this set of equipment was designated UM-70.

Another option for attachments is the PF-10 front loader.

In addition to the ZTM-60, Transmash produced another modification of the base tractor - the ZTM-80, which featured a more powerful engine (89 hp versus 62 for the ZTM-60) and all-wheel drive. Here it is next to EO-2621V-2 at the AgroOmsk-2010 fair. By the way, Omsk tractors can be distinguished from the YuMZ-6AK, which look exactly the same, by their characteristic red-yellow coloring.

In 2008, 90% of Transmash’s production capacity was purchased by KBTM OJSC, and in 2010, KBTM acquired the rest. The production of tractors was maintained under the new owners, the equipment indices remained unchanged, only the manufacturer changed on the nameplates.

In 2011, AgroOmsk even presented a new development - a set of pile driving equipment for the EO-2621V-2 excavator. Interestingly, the equipment for the exhibition was mounted on an excavator dating back to 1993, which apparently worked at the plant.

And this year there were no ZTM tractors at AgroOmsk at all, which gives some reason to assume that KBTM is not interested in the further development of this area, and on their official website in the list of products offered there now appears only one excavator, which, obviously while there is demand. So, perhaps, soon the production of Omsk ZTM tractors may end, just as the production of Omsk T-80U tanks ended in 1998.

At the same time, there are no inter-season breaks, since the wheeled tractor is also used as a vehicle.

In terms of the “cost/operation costs/efficiency” ratio, the equipment produced by the State Unitary Enterprise “Omsktransmash” is significantly superior to analogues (MTZ, LTZ, YuMZ) of traction class 1.4.

A powerful turbocharged engine allows the tractor to be used in conditions of heavy and viscous soils, where tractors of other brands are poorly efficient. The design of the rear axle transmission monoblock is very successful, which ensures its high strength under increased traction loads.

The simplicity of the design allows you to eliminate all problems that arise in the field with minimal effort and money.

The tractors have a unique front axle, which ensures automatic connection of the front wheels when the rear wheels slip. This solution allows you to significantly reduce fuel consumption and achieve maximum traction, especially on heavy soils.

Features of operation and maintenance

The YuMZ tractor is operated in compliance with the following rules:

  • gear shifting is carried out only when the clutch is disengaged;
  • engine idling should not exceed 15 minutes;
  • after reducing the load, let the engine run for several minutes in low load mode, and only then turn it off;
  • when the tractor is moving, only one person can be seated in the cabin;
  • regularly lubricate mechanisms and key components of the tractor, use universal lubricant (with special markings for different seasons);
  • Activate the starting engine only when the gearshift lever is in neutral;
  • for the starting engine it is allowed to use gasoline A76, A72, in the absence of such - A92, to create a combustible mixture for the operation of the PD, mix 20 parts of gasoline and one part of oil for diesel engines, and then pour into the starting engine;
  • the fuel needs to sit for about 48 hours before being poured into the diesel engine tank;
  • oil for DD - GOST 305-82, oil for PD - according to GOST 2084-77;
  • for the gearbox - TEP-15 or TAP-15V.

Maintenance of the YuMZ6 tractor involves monitoring the status of the following parameters:

  • tire pressure;
  • control of the rear linkage mechanism;
  • fuel level;
  • control of the movement of all mechanisms, the condition of fastenings;
  • engine operation;
  • seasonal maintenance as necessary;
  • once a year - prevention of gearbox breakdowns.

For new models, running-in is required to increase the life of the tractor so that all parts get used and fit into the grooves. This procedure takes about 6-8 hours, during which the tractor is operated at 50% of its power. Upon completion of the procedure, it is necessary to change the engine oil.

For used tractors, running-in is not necessary.

At the end of the operating season, the tractor must be mothballed. It must be cleaned, placed in a dry place, the oil drained, the spark plug wires disconnected and the parts lubricated to prevent corrosion from forming.

Main malfunctions of YuMZ tractors and their elimination

Next, we will look at the main malfunctions that may arise during the operation of YuMZ tractors, as well as ways to eliminate them:

  • The engine does not start - perhaps it is not warmed up enough or the fuel filters are clogged;
  • the diesel engine operates intermittently and does not reach full power - you should check the fuel filter and the condition of the fuel pump;
  • the starting engine is acting up - check the carburetor bolts, replace the gasket, check the condition of the spark plug, if necessary, clean the spark plug or replace it;
  • the attachment does not stay raised - replace the seals, examine the condition of the hose connectors.
