Review of Hyundai Porter 2.5 TD (2007)

Review of Hyundai Porter 2.5 TD (2007)

Greetings to all active users, creators and random visitors of this magical resource!

I haven’t posted here for a long time, but for only one reason - there’s nothing to write about! I’m still driving a Lacetti from the 4th year (almost 100 thousand km already) and a 99 from a very shaggy 1998, which I can’t sell, so I’m stupidly waiting for the state to start working. trash recycling program. Both cars drive boringly, don’t bother you, and if there are any mistakes, they are corrected quickly and easily! Ugh three times of course, but boring!

I’ve been waiting for a long time for the opportunity to post a review about the VW Jetta, FSI with DSG, or the Tiguan 2 liter, because I dreamed of buying one or the other, but for well-known reasons, the purchase of one of these devices has been postponed for an indefinite period, although I’m not abandoning the thought of buying ...

In general, I seemed to have come to terms with the fact that I would not post reviews for a long time... when suddenly fate gave me the opportunity to drive a rather interesting car for several thousand km, which I lovingly called “Pokemon”, i.e. Hyundai Porter! The thing is that my father-in-law planned to build a house in the village (150 km from Samara), and since the construction was supposed to be from the “economy class” series, i.e. to save as much as possible on everything, including the delivery of building materials, then this machine came in handy!

This unit faithfully serves my brother at the company, delivering all sorts of... (sorry, products) to various points in the city and region, and so - every weekend I got to enjoy the fresh air and about 450 kilometers of mileage (sometimes in one day) on this pony! Therefore, I thought that I have every right to write a review about this assistant... Sorry for such a long introduction.

So, a Hyundai Porter car, 2.5 l, 80 hp, 2007, bought for 405 thousand rubles, plus insurance of about 25 thousand rubles, mileage is now 53 tkm. Why "Pokemon" itself? When my brother showed it to me for the first time, and considering the name, this was the name that immediately came to mind! Although, I haven’t even seen these animals (or who are they anyway?)! But somehow the name stuck with it, even my driver still calls it that, like my whole family...

First impressions.

Diesel - I’ve never driven a diesel car, I start it and immediately hear the pleasant monotonous rumble of the power unit, which is absolutely not annoying. The first thing that struck me was the presence of a tachometer on the instrument panel and the absence of arrows! It turned out that this is a super thoughtful marketing ploy by the Koreans that the tachometer is available as an option!!! To be honest, I still don’t understand the party’s policy on this particular issue, but oh well, it’s a matter of habit. I'm moving... Ship!!! It feels like being at the helm of a small boat; you can see everything even over the cars parked in the parking lot. Leaving the parking lot, at first it seemed that its dimensions were wow - probably just an internal self-deception, it seems that it is big (compared to cars), but in fact, if you do not take into account the height, then in length and width it is no more and no less than, say, the Lacetti! In general, I got used to the dimensions quickly, literally after half an hour the edge of addiction was already erased, and I started driving as usual. Moreover, the high seating position allows you to more accurately calculate your further movement in the traffic. Regarding the dimensions, the lack of a hood also requires some getting used to; my wife was shy at first when I drove up close to my colleagues standing in front of me, although, to be honest, it took me a while to get used to it too!

Now about the engine: surprisingly, the Pokemon demonstrated good dynamics (of course, we are talking about an unloaded vehicle), it accelerates very quickly, now I understand why these animals often dart around in traffic no worse than passenger cars. Although it only has 80 horses, thanks to the turbine you don’t feel inferior (in terms of agility) on the road. As for the turbine, this is the first time I’ve driven the A5 not only with a diesel engine, but also in a car with a turbine - I didn’t feel any turbo lag or anything else, and I also didn’t notice when it connected or didn’t connect (sorry for the incompetence) . The only thing I also had to get used to was the need not to turn off the engine right away, but to let it idle for a minute, especially after a long stay in a traffic jam, or a long drive along the highway (at least that’s what it says on the sign on the driver’s door ).

Handling: fabulous! The power steering is excellent, the steering wheel turns with your little finger, although it is located almost like a bus, but it is very easy to steer both in the parking lot and on the highway - no discomfort. My wife drove a couple of kilometers on it - she really liked driving it, her son (7 years old) generally said that from now on he would only ride on it, and on weekdays, forced to drive a Lacetti, he constantly muttered, when will we go on a Pokemon!

Brakes - 5 points, although indeed, as was written in one of the reviews, when the Pokemon comes to a complete stop, it will nod its cockpit three more times, probably in gratitude for using its services!

As for the suspension, the car is very soft, but apparently, due to the long wheelbase, it’s quite a goat, even when driving into small potholes you can jump up to the ceiling, especially at speed - directly to the village it’s about 12 km along a country road, where a grader periodically passes ... This is where you fully feel this, one might say, lack.

Now, regarding the carrying capacity - they often carried about a ton on it: sheets of chipboard, CBPB, cement, boards, etc., etc. Chipboard and DSP sheets were not included in the van, because... they are 3.5 and 3.2 m, respectively, and the length of the van is 2.9 m, I had to tie up the doors and hang a red rag - it’s kind of oversized... At the same time, the loaded one drives along the highway like a glove, but you should pay special attention to the distribution of the load. Once, on the way out of the city, I threw 7 bags of cement from the very edge, being too lazy to move them deep into the van, for which I almost paid - having accelerated to about 90 km/h, I got into a rut, with great difficulty I caught the car for about a minute with every effort and experience. In general, I gained a little more experience and aged about two years in that minute - it was on the highway on a two-lane road with a bunch of oncoming people, after which I immediately pulled over to the side of the road, smoked half a pack and shifted the entire load as evenly as possible. After that, the Pokemon rode like a tram.

This pony loves hay, and a lot, absorbing 13-15 liters of diesel fuel per hundred, because it is in a constant struggle with the road, the load and with itself - the car is in the back of a “Manufactured goods van”, while this same van has resistance to oncoming air approximately as sheet of plywood (sorry - plagiarism). “Thanks to” such aerodynamics, Pokemon does not accelerate more than 115-120 km/h, just in any way, regardless of workload! I’ve been telling my brother for a long time to put it on the roof (I don’t know exactly what it’s called), in general, a device that significantly improves this same aerodynamics costs around 5-7 thousand rubles.

A few words about ergonomics: in principle, everything is at hand, BUT it takes a long time to get used to the almost horizontal position of the steering wheel, which is why at first there were problems with the steering column switches, meaning control of the turn signals, lights and windshield washer. The last one is actually a song! The brush speeds are switched from top to bottom, i.e. the highest speed in the lowest position - I don’t understand why this was done! The dashboard plastic is hard, but there is so little of it that it does not rattle or knock - all the crickets mainly start among the rubbish behind the seats and in the van. The singing of the crickets is drowned out by the music - the driver installed a 2-din radio that reads everything and shows movies on DVD; in principle, 2 speakers are enough for a successful choir of crickets and singers on the radio.

Regarding the seating position in the cabin: you can set the driver’s seat to 4, the backrest is adjustable for tilt, but you still get tired after 100-150 km... Having driven about 500 km in one day, I’m about as tired as I once was when working as a regional representative, I was returning from Moscow on the 99th, and in one fell swoop I covered about 1200 km... In general, I remembered already forgotten sensations. Three people can ride in the cabin, but preferably with mom, dad, me - it will be a bit cramped for three middle guys. But in general, that’s how we went: either I was alone, or together with my wife and a couple of times with my son, to the fullest. As for boarding and disembarking, it’s cool, like on a playground “from hill to hill,” i.e. you actually have to climb into the cabin and get out by sliding backwards along the wheel arch! However, thanks to good seals on the door, the arch is always clean, so it’s not so easy to get your pants dirty. Although, perhaps the arch is always clean due to the only possible way to exit the cabin.

Regarding the light: considering the max. speed of movement (see above), it is more than enough, especially since the described device is equipped with fog lights, although they can probably be called a second row of headlights, or backup headlights, because in size they are not much different from the main ones, and they are located practically on top of each other.

Regarding reliability: in principle, my brother did not complain, there were periodic rendezvous with servicemen, but nothing serious (TTT), the only thing that upsets me is the service mileage of 10 tkm, the average cost of maintenance is from 5 to 15 tr.

To summarize, we can say that the car has long spent the money invested in it and continues to work for the benefit of the prosperity of the brotherly company and for the general well-being of its environment, including yours truly.

Thank you to everyone who read the review to the end for your patience and attention. If you have any questions, ask, I will be happy to answer.

I wanted to write this review not only because of creative starvation, but also in gratitude to “Pokemon” for the assistance provided in such a serious matter as building a house! Do not judge strictly for the review, but as advice to the buyer - definitely take it, because I believe that potential buyers take such cars precisely for strictly defined purposes! Ripping everyone away from a traffic light, or demonstrating his superiority on the road (unfortunately, there are still a lot of such amateurs left) - this is far from his case! But this is a very nimble, responsive, uncapricious and unpretentious carrier (not to be confused with Statchen! :))))

Thank you all again, good luck on the roads and mutual politeness!

Hyundai Porter 2.5 TD MT (2008, Van)

Manual transmission 2467 cm³ Left New 111000 km 2008 - 2011 Russia Moscow and Moscow region.

Evgeny Sapronov 03/05/2011:

“friends, I owned many cars and worked for others.Zil.
Lawn.UAZ. Gazelle. But after buying the porter, the difference was noticeable. The last car before him was a gazelle, this miracle sucked a lot of money out of me every day, something is bound to fall off. In terms of comfort, the porter wins a lot. When maneuvering in yards, the hydraulic booster and small turning radius are big a win compared to a gazelle, on which you turn the steering wheel. The fuel consumption of a porter is almost half that of a gazelle. The presence of air conditioning is also a plus, even in the extreme heat of 2010, I stood in traffic jams on the Moscow Ring Road for hours with the air conditioner on and never once boiled. The diesel engine and system The cooling is done very well. Now I remember how I was tormented in the gazelle, it was boiling regularly in the cabin, in general, you can cook with it, but here you eat like a person. I read other reviews, many complain about the small cabin. I agree, but this is a city car, so you can live in it or something. Although I I drove it to the Tver Ryazan and Oryol regions in both directions, it was 700 to 1100 km, it turned around in less than a day, and most importantly, when leaving with a load, I didn’t worry about getting stuck on the road, and on the gazelle it regularly broke down and was tormented on a rope. All the veinlets on the porter were made normally for car two a little over a year old and the muffler has just begun to rust. Compared to my gazelle, it was three years old when I sold it. The hood was rotten through the doors from the bottom, too, and there was not a single rust on the porter yet. In winter it started perfectly at minus 37, the only thing is that when you drown on the highway your feet get cold. The front suspension still passed on it, the front suspension was still factory. The front pads were nursing to 60,000 km horseman to look at 105,000 km removed the drums, they only erased and collected back. On the gazelle walks in front of 100015000km and the ass of 3000km. In the engine, only the timing belts and tension rollers for 60000km so it’s supposed to be. It’s not convenient to pick around. But in general, the aporat is excellent; the spare parts last for a long time, just take the original one. The gazelle hasn’t been around for that long; it won’t wear off; it’s a permanent investment, and you’ll only earn money on the porter. So, draw your own conclusions. I changed the axle bearing. Available in any store for imported trucks. The axle bearing, corkscrew washer and oil seal cost 1200 rubles, I did everything myself, I don’t trust any service that just wants to take money, but they do it somehow” expandcollapse
