Parking brake system disassembly and assembly

1. Using a 18mm wrench, unscrew the four nuts securing the propeller shaft to the parking brake drum (photo 1, item 1).
2. Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew 2 screws (item 2) and remove the parking brake drum, see photo 1.

3. Disconnect the handbrake cable (indicated by the arrow in the figure), see photo 2.

4. Remove the two upper tension springs (photo 3, item 3).

5. Remove the two pad pressure springs (photo 3, item 4).

6 Carefully spreading the pads, remove them as an assembly, see photo 4. With a spacer bar (photo 5, pos. 5), bar spring (photo 5, pos. 6), release lever (photo 5, pos. 7), lower tension spring (photo 5, pos. 8) and an adjustment mechanism (photo 5, pos. 9).

8. Having previously dismantled the release lever (photo 6), disconnect it (photo 7, pos. 5,6,8 and 9).

9. Release the brake pads, see photo 8.

In case of significant wear of the linings (the rivets are buried less than 0.5 mm), they must be replaced, and if they become “tarred”, they must be cleaned with sandpaper.

Clean the expansion and adjusting mechanisms from dirt and apply fresh lubricant. In this case, lubricant should not get on the drum and friction linings.

Reassemble the brake mechanism in the reverse order of disassembly.

Adjust the gaps between the pads and the brake drum by turning the expansion mechanism gear with a screwdriver through the hole in the brake drum (photo 9) in the following order:

1. Tighten the gear until the drum cannot be turned by hand.

2. Unscrew the gear (½ -1 turn) so that the drum rotates freely.

3. With proper adjustment of the parking brake, the car should slow down when the lever pawl is installed in the 3rd - 5th depression of the sector, counting from the bottom (3-5 clicks).

If the adjustment of the gap between the shoes and the drum is done correctly, and the number of clicks is more than five, then shorten the cable by adjusting it in the area of the parking brake lever (photo 10), for which:

1. Remove the decorative trim from the parking brake lever.

2. Unscrew the locknut (item 1).

3. Rotate the threaded coupling to shorten the cable to a size that allows proper parking brake adjustment.

: With the driveshaft installed, adjustments must be made by jacking up one of the rear wheels.

: It is prohibited to check the operation of the parking brake system when starting off or while driving. This should only be done on a slope.

The need to install the ignition on a diesel engine yourself often arises in the following cases:

The diesel ignition needs to be adjusted in parallel with replacing the timing belt;
after dismantling the injection pump, it is not possible to install the fuel pump pulley according to the special marks;

One of the recommendations before starting any work related to disassembling diesel fuel equipment is the urgent need to clearly mark and refresh all marks. To do this, just apply small strokes using paint or a high-quality marker. This will facilitate subsequent reassembly and installation of the injection pump pulley, which will automatically eliminate or minimize potential ignition failures.

Setting the angle using marks

The first method of independently setting the diesel ignition angle (diesel fuel injection moment) using marks involves shifting the fuel pump. This method is suitable for diesel internal combustion engines that have mechanical fuel equipment installed.

The injection advance angle is adjusted by rotating the injection pump around its axis. A method is also possible when the camshaft toothed pulley rotates in relation to the hub. This method is suitable for those structures in which the pump and pulley are not rigidly attached.

To adjust the ignition on a diesel engine with your own hands, you need to go to the rear of the internal combustion engine and get to the flywheel, if necessary, remove the protective casing from it.
Next, you will need to locate the stopper on the flywheel, which is lowered into a special slot.
After this, the flywheel must be turned manually (using a wrench or other device). The rotation of the flywheel means that the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine is rotating. You need to turn it clockwise until the upper locking mechanism engages.
Then we pay attention to the injection pump drive shaft. It is possible that the scale on the drive coupling, through which rotation is transmitted, is in the upper position. In this case, the mark on the fuel injection pump flange is aligned with the zero mark on the drive.
After aligning the marks, the mounting bolts can be tightened. If the setting scale on the drive coupling is in a different position than the top position, it means that the flywheel stopper needs to be raised, after which the engine crankshaft is turned one revolution again. Next, the position of the scale is controlled again.
After the drive clutch bolts are tightened, the stopper on the flywheel is raised, the crankshaft is rotated 90°, and then the stopper is placed in the groove.

Compressed air supplied through inlet B4 enters chamber C under the diaphragm (5), loading the active surface of the accelerating piston (6).

At the same time, compressed air passes through the opened valve (1) and channel E of chamber D and loads the diaphragm (5). This pre-pressure increases the gear ratio when the vehicle is partially loaded and the control pressure is low.

4. During the reverse stroke, if the gap between the drum and the shoes does not exceed the operational one, no mutual movements of the parts occur; if the gap is exceeded, the shaped bar releases the worm, and the worm pair moves in the direction of decreasing the gap between the brake drum and the shoes.

5. The hexagonal worm head allows you to manually reduce the gap between the brake drum and the shoes.

6. Movement of the worm in the opposite direction is not provided - excluded.

7. In order to “bring together” the pads (movement towards the center of the wheel), which is done when changing the brake pads, with the brake drum removed, it is necessary to: remove the cotter pin securing the automatic adjustment mechanism on the expansion cam shaft, remove the flat washer, disconnect the brake chamber rod, Carefully knock the expansion cam shaft out until the automatic adjustment mechanism is released.
