The YaMZ 236NE engine is a four-stroke, 6-cylinder, V-shaped cylinder arrangement, displacement 11,150 cm3, liquid cooling, direct fuel injection, liquid-oil heat exchanger, mechanical speed controller, turbocharging, meets EEC environmental standards for the emission of harmful substances UN No. 49-02B, No. 24-03-Euro-1, No. 96-01. The YaMZ-236NE diesel engine has the following design differences: equipped with TKR-9, jet cooling of pistons with oil, liquid metal parts, fan clutch, high-performance water pump, high-pressure fuel pump 10×11, pipelines for installing ONV, flywheel for diaphragm clutch, impeller a fan with a diameter of 600 mm, a three-groove crankshaft pulley with spaced grooves, a connecting pipe of the intake manifolds with an exhaust pipe, an ECU, an oil sump installed with the deep part forward. The engine does not have an oil level indicator and a generator (there are fastenings and drive belts), and is used on MAZ-533602, - 543202, - 555102 vehicles.

The YaMZ-236NE-5 modification is designed on the basis of the YaMZ-236NE engine and is structurally distinguished by the presence of: a three-groove crankshaft pulley with a groove, a reinforced compressor and generator drive with a shortened shaft, a bus oil sump, an oil level indicator and generator mounting parts, a YaMZ-182 clutch and gearboxes YaMZ-236L1. The engine does not have an impeller, a casing and a fan clutch, a connecting ONV pipe and a generator; it is used on Volzhanin-5270 buses.

The YaMZ-236NE-6 modification is designed on the basis of the YaMZ-236NE and is equipped with a V-shaped injection pump (11×13) and an associated cylinder block, intake manifolds, high- and low-pressure fuel pipes, a high-pressure fuel pump drive, a three-ribbed crankshaft pulley with groove, front tractor support, TKR, shifted towards the fan, gas exhaust system, bus oil sump, oil level indicator, reinforced drive of the compressor and generator with a shortened shaft, connecting pipe of the intake manifolds with the intake pipe, YaMZ-182 clutch and YaMZ gearbox -236L1. The engine does not have an impeller, casing and fan clutch, connecting pipe ONV, ECU, generator (generator mounting parts are available), and is used on LiAZ-5256 buses.

The YaMZ-236NE-16 modification is assembled on the YaMZ-236NE base and is equipped with a bus oil sump, an oil level indicator, a reinforced generator and compressor drive, a three-groove pulley, a generator 6582.3701-03, a YaMZ-182 clutch, a YaMZ-236L2 gearbox with a flange , made according to ISO. The engine does not have an impeller, a casing, a fan clutch and a connecting pipe, and is used on MAZ-104, MARZ-5266, -5277, -4219 buses.

The YaMZ-236NE-18 modification is assembled on the basis of the YaMZ-236NE-6 engine and does not have a gearbox, clutch, bearings in the crankshaft and a housing with a cuff. The engine is intended for use on LiAZ-5256 buses.

The YaMZ236NE-20 modification is designed on the basis of the YaMZ-236NE engine, has a fan drive, an impeller with a diameter of 600 mm, a three-groove crankshaft pulley, a YaMZ-236NE-20 or YaMZ-182 clutch, and a YaMZ-236P4 gearbox. The engine does not have a starter, a generator (the generator mounting parts are available), a clutch and a fan casing. The modification is intended for use on MAZ vehicles.

The YaMZ-236NE-24 modification is designed on the basis of the YaMZ-236NE-6 engine and is equipped with a T-shaped front support bracket, a compressor and generator drive, a YaMZ-182 clutch and a YaMZ-236L1 gearbox, but does not have a generator and its mounting parts. The modification is used on LiAZ-52528, -52078 buses.
