A little history
In 1994, Citroen followed the global fashion of naming cars. Before this, the family of Citroen commercial light-duty vehicles simply had the designation C25. Now these practical business assistants have become “Jumpers”. There is no such word in French, but in English the name of the car is consonant with the word “jump” - “jump”. That is, “Jumper” means “jumper” or “horse”.

“Horses” of two generations roam the roads of different countries: the first – model 1994 (plus restyled ones, since 2002) and the second – model 2006 (restyling of this generation was carried out in 2014). Since 2006, the Citroen Jumper truck has acquired options with a maximum gross weight of 3.5 and 4 tons. Before this, all cars in the family had a gross weight of only up to two tons.

The Citroen Jumper belongs to the multi-brand light commercial vehicle community, which also includes the Peugeot Boxer and FIAT Ducato. In fact, these are similar trucks, which are even produced at the same enterprise (Fiat Ducato was also assembled in Russia for several years). But, despite the technical identity and common origin, each of these “twin brothers” has its own WMI code for the VIN number. For example, Citroen cars have the WMI code “VF7”.

Execution options
Citroen Jumper is presented on the market with a very wide range of models, as all-metal vans or chassis with cab. Numerous variants of special vehicles are produced based on the chassis. PSA Peugeot / Citroen cooperates with several Russian manufacturing companies on pre-sale conversion and modification of Jumpers.

The chassis for the superstructure has a frame structure with a welded cabin. Most often, manufactured goods and insulated vans are installed on Jumper cargo chassis of two sizes; refrigerated trucks; tilted cargo platforms with folding sides.

However, the vast majority of Citroen Jumper commercial vehicles in use in Russia are all-metal cargo vans, plus minibuses.
The chassis cab is offered in three lengths (L2S, L3, L4), while the all-metal van is available in four lengths (L1, L2, L3, L4) and three different heights (H1, H2, H3). In total, you can choose from seven all-metal cargo vans of different volumes and carrying capacity. Depending on the configuration, the body volume ranges from 8 to 17 cubic meters, and the load capacity varies from 1090 to 2000 kg.

In addition, to the right of the driver you can place seats for at least one or two passengers. There are seven three types of passenger minibuses to choose from: city minibus, suburban or tourist. The number of seats in Citroen Jumper minibuses is from 8 to 22 people. Of course, there is also a Citroen Jumper cargo-passenger van with an additional row of seats, which, in addition to the driver, is capable of transporting a team of six workers. And in your cargo compartment you can place the necessary luggage, tools and equipment. Loading and unloading of this version of the car is carried out only through the rear door, and passengers enter through the sliding door.
Appearance
The design of the front will always be the same; from other angles there are already differences. What is meant? The manufacturer offers a Van van, a Minibus minibus and an onboard Chassis.
The front end will always stand out with narrow slanted optics, emphasized by ribs on the hood. The transition from the bumper to the hood of the Citroen Jumper is complemented by a chrome insert that forms the company logo. The massive bumper with fog lights, air intakes and ribbed lines is in most cases painted black, rarely in body color.
The profile at the bottom is complemented by a wide, unpainted molding. Massive black mirrors on two legs are equipped with a large turn signal repeater. The sliding door and the further part do not have glazing, if it is a van, in a minibus the glazing area is impressive.
At the rear, the luggage compartment is closed by two doors, there is only one handle, the second door opens from the inside. The tall red plastic optics don't really stand out. The bumper is always made of black plastic, and a step is installed for the van. The onboard Citroen Jumper receives a cargo platform mounted on a frame; the platform's load capacity does not exceed 2 tons.
The dimensions of all bodies are different. Let's start with the minibus:
- Length – 6363 mm;
- Width – 2050 mm;
- Height – 2524 mm;
- Wheelbase – 4035 mm.
The dimensions of the van are also different, because there are different versions:
- Length – 4963-6363 mm;
- Width – 2050 mm;
- Height – 2254-2764 mm;
- Wheelbase – 3000-4035 mm.
Side board dimensions:
- Length – 5358-5943 mm;
- Width – 2050 mm;
- Height – 2153 mm;
- Wheelbase – 3450-4035 mm.
Device Features
Citroen Jumper is a front-wheel drive car with a monocoque body and a transverse engine; with MacPherson front suspension and rack and pinion steering. In principle, a typical set of technical solutions that have been repeatedly tested and tested on millions of passenger cars.
However, in its rear suspension there are small-leaf springs, already familiar to commercial vehicles, resting on a beam of a non-driving axle with a square section. On short-wheelbase versions there is one sheet each, on medium-wheelbase versions there is one sheet plus another spring, and on long-wheelbase versions there are two sheets. The brakes of all wheels without exception on modern generation cars are disc brakes. Wheels are 15-inch on versions with a gross weight of up to 3500 kg, and 16-inch on four-ton models.

In recent years, it has taken a step towards expanding the range of engines for the Citroen Jumper. Russian Citroen dealers have started selling new versions of Jumper light commercial vehicles with an upgraded 150 hp HDi diesel engine. Previously, this car was only available with a single HDi power unit of 130 horsepower.
The restyled Citroen Jumper has undergone a number of major changes. The front part of this car received a completely new company logo, radiator grille and light frame. Still high-mounted, but completely different in shape, the headlight units can be equipped with LED daytime running lights, which improve visibility, provide greater safety and highlight the modern design of the car. The dimensions of the rear bumper have changed. Its low height makes loading and unloading the vehicle easier. The redesigned taillights (vertical) combine modern style with functional efficiency.

The latest generation of Citroen Jumper has become even more reliable thanks to a new design of shock absorber brackets. A new, more sealed air intake has been made; reinforced body structure; hinges and other opening body elements have become more durable; the braking system has become even more efficient; noise level is reduced.
The manufacturer and dealers emphasize that every Citroen Jumper supplied to our market is adapted to Russian conditions. These are a high-power generator, an increased-capacity battery, a Webasto engine preheating system, reinforced suspension and load-bearing body elements.
Load capacity
Version | Weight | Weight Limit |
L1H1 | 1860 kg | 2495 kg |
L2H2 | 1925 kg | 2495 kg |
L4H2 Route | 2060 kg | 3500 kg |
L4H2 Tourist | 2060 kg | 3500 kg |
The van holds 17 cubic meters of cargo in the trunk, and it’s convenient to load everything through the rear gate. The left sliding door can receive a pair on the right, but at an additional cost. The maximum transportable load per van does not exceed 2 tons, the same applies to the on-board model.
In a minibus, the carrying capacity, as rough as it may sound, is measured in passengers. Here everything depends on the chosen version; from 11 to 18 seats are offered. When purchasing a minibus, the rear cabin is additionally soundproofed, there is an emergency hatch on the roof, an additional heater with three deflectors and interior lighting lamps.
Engine Citroen Jumper
While the Jumper has many body options, there is only one engine on the cars of the family. This is an in-line four-cylinder turbodiesel brand “P22DTE” - compact and, for such a small volume, quite powerful. In particular, it is more powerful than the Mercedes Sprinter or Renault Master. The exact same engine as the Citroen Jumper is installed on its “twins” - the Peugeot Boxer and Fiat Ducato. The environmental class of the engine is Euro-5.
The working volume of this power unit is 2.2 liters (2198 cm3), its power is 130 horsepower. The cylinder head is 16-valve. The diesel engine is equipped with an intercooler and a Common Rail electronic injection system. Cylinder diameter – 86 mm, piston stroke – 94 mm. Maximum power speed – up to 3,500 rpm. Range of realization of 80% torque: 1400 – 3500 rpm. Compression ratio - 17.5.
Access to the engine is simple and convenient.
The engine reaches its maximum torque (320 N*m) already at 2000 rpm, but even before this speed there is enough torque to get underway and dynamically pick up speed even with increased load.
Fuel consumption is, according to the manufacturer: 9.2 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km in urban mode and 6.3 liters per 100 km in suburban highway mode. In the combined cycle - 7.4 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km. The maximum speed of the car is 140 km/h. Cruising range - from 980 to 1430 km (fuel tank capacity is 90 liters of diesel fuel).
Transmission
The gear ratio of the six-speed manual transmission deserves special attention. The difference in engine speed when driving at the same speed in adjacent gears is: between 1st and 2nd speeds: 900 rpm, 2-3-4-5: 600 rpm, and fifth and sixth - 300. Such “close” transmissions are very convenient, in particular, in urban traffic jams that are inevitable in our time. The first allows you to roll slowly at idle, and the sixth allows you to save fuel. It is quite possible and appropriate to use a 1-2-4-6 gear shift when starting off. This simplifies the driving process and saves diesel fuel.
Boot space
Loading into and unloading from the all-metal Citroen Jumper van is carried out through the rear hinged doors and through the side sliding door. For ease of loading/unloading, both rear door leaves can swing open 96° or 180°. They are securely fastened using a system of folding clamps. As an additional option, the rear doors can be equipped with a mechanism that allows them to swing open 270° and be fixed to the side walls of the body using special hinges.
Loading space: rear view.
An option such as “double side doors” is also offered. That is, when sliding doors are installed on an all-metal van on both sides. Depending on the specific version of the car, the opening width of its sliding door varies from 1.075 m to 1.250 m, and its height – from 1.485 m to 1.755 m. At the same time, the height of the rear hinged doors can reach up to 2.03 m.
Manufacturers call the loading width of the all-metal Citroën Jumper van the best in its class. Its indicators are as follows: 1.42 m – the distance between the wheel arches; 1.87 m – distance between the sides. The useful loading volume ranges from 8 m3 to 17 m3 - depending on the specific version of the van.
Typical problems and malfunctions
Unfortunately, even the best are not immune to shortcomings. Citroen Jumper is a wonderful car that boasts high quality build and materials. However, he also has a couple of secrets.
The most common problem was the accumulation of condensation in the headlights. Over time, this leads to “eating” the mirror reflective layer. The problem is solved by sealing the back cover of the flashlight. By the way, you have to install the cover almost blindly.
Jumper owners often complain of metallic or muffled knocking noises when starting/stopping the engine or idling. This may indicate failure of the dual-mass flywheel elements. Experts recommend replacing the entire component, unless it concerns only damper springs.
Jumpers with a significant mileage “complain” about increased oil consumption. Often the problem is in the valve stem seal, which simply needs to be replaced. Sometimes the cause is the engine itself. It needs to be diagnosed.
Cabin Citroen Jumper
The cabin of the Citroen commercial van is positioned as a “working room” or “mobile office”. The interior of the cabin is made in a monochromatic design, emphasizing practicality in everything and a complete absence of unnecessary details. At the top of the dashboard, right in the center, there is a folding table-tablet, on which it will be convenient to work with documents. Another table is integrated into the body of the middle passenger seat (unless, of course, the cabin has two passenger seats, and not one offered as an option). By reclining the back of this central chair, you can easily get a desk - a desk or a dining table, depending on the current needs of the driver.

In accordance with many years of experience in operating commercial light-duty vehicles, the “mobile office” space is competently and functionally organized. There are many well-designed compartments for papers and other things necessary in everyday work - the key to successful work. In particular, Jumpers with a high roof have an unusually voluminous and spacious shelf above the windshield. On the dashboard of any truck you can find many compartments designed for small items. There are two closed glove boxes and a lockable center laptop storage compartment.

The visibility from the driver's workplace is excellent: the large glass area provides the widest view in all directions. The acoustic comfort of the cabin is also good: proper sound insulation and an insulating noise-absorbing partition significantly reduce the noise level in the workplace. The small gear shift lever is conveniently located on the front panel and makes driving even more comfortable. The front seats are equipped with armrests and lumbar support adjustment.
Salon
Inside, the car will always be the same if we are talking about the front seats. There are three seats, the driver's fabric seat is separate, and the remaining 2 seats are a small sofa for two people. The driver's seat in expensive trim levels is electrically adjustable.
The 4-spoke steering wheel of the Citroen Jumper is trimmed in leather and is distinguished by chrome rings on the rim. Inserted control buttons for volume, radio stations and telephone calls of the audio system. The instrument panel is technically simple, but the design is pleasant and unusual. The main analogue sensors are complemented by fault indicators, and a lot of information is displayed through the on-board computer.
The center console between the two air deflectors received glossy plastic, on which there is a 5-inch audio system display with mechanical controls. Below there are 9 buttons and one puck for adjusting climate indicators; the selected settings are displayed on an additional monitor.
The Citroen Jumper 2017-2018 gearbox selector is located on the dashboard closer to the driver. There is a huge glove compartment at the bottom; a cup holder, a cigarette lighter and a 12V socket are installed to the right. In front of the passenger there is a shelf suitable for documents.
Additional options
As additional options, the manufacturer offers:
- Rear view camera, which facilitates maneuvering when parking and reversing, using visual guidance. At the same time, the touch screen also displays the door opening pattern in order to take this distance into account when reversing to the loading/unloading area.
- Cruise control system with speed limiter that automatically maintains and/or limits speed to the same level regardless of terrain.
- Intelligent traction control system “Grip Control”, the use of which makes it safer to drive on roads with low traction coefficient (ice, snow, mud, etc.)
- HDC (Hill Descent Control) system - makes it easy to descend on mud, wet surfaces or gravel.
The yellow lines indicate the opening distance of the rear swing doors.
- Hill Holder system, which prevents the car from rolling back when starting to move uphill.
- Central locking function, which makes it possible to open and close the doors of the cabin and/or cargo compartment using the remote control.
- Rear view mirrors with dual optics. Their lower part has a wide viewing angle, greatly improving visual control. Electric drive, heating function and folding mirrors are also available as additional options.
- LED daytime running lights; effective fog lights.

Reviews of Citroen Jumper
According to reviews from drivers and owners of commercial trucks of this brand, this vehicle is well suited for our roads: the suspension copes well with all the bumps in its path, there is enough ground clearance, including for crossing a curb. The engine also does not cause any complaints; there is more than enough power; You can hardly hear it in the cabin (the sound insulation is excellent). The seats in the cabin are comfortable: your back hardly gets tired over long distances. The climate system works efficiently. In winter, the car warms up to +20 degrees in 10 minutes (at a frost of about 15 degrees).
In general, Citroen Jumper light-duty vehicles are not very popular in Russia. We can say that they are in the shadow of their twin clones Peugeot Boxer: according to Autostat, there are four times more of them on the roads of our country. At the same time, Boxer and Jumper are sold at almost the same prices and differ, in fact, only in their emblems. So, the “lion” seemed much more attractive to the domestic consumer than the “double chevron”.
Price Jumper 3
It’s hard to call the model expensive; it’s a budget commercial vehicle compared to its competitors. The starting price tag depends on the body you choose:
- Minibus – 1,875,000 rubles;
- Van – 1,640,000 rubles;
- Chassis – 1,860,000 rubles (approximate cost, this option is not sold in Russia).
The basic equipment of the car has one airbag, an immobilizer, preparation for an audio system, LED headlights and 16-inch wheels. All other features described cost extra money.
Citroen Jumper 2017-2018 is an excellent inexpensive truck for commercial activities. If you want to start something with a relatively small budget, you can purchase it; the reliability will not disappoint you much, but you will be pleased with its comfort. There are commercial vehicles that are cheaper, but they can be called a “workhorse” because they are not intended for anything other than work.
