UAZ Patriot Pickup is a domestic SUV in a pickup body with four doors. The first presentation of this car took place at the international motor show in Moscow in August 2008.
It was planned that this vehicle would be in demand among outdoor enthusiasts, as well as those who are interested in fishing and hunting. For a farm, this is a real workhorse.
The factory index of the UAZ Pickup is 23602. In fact, this is a modification of the standard Patriot; a similar platform is used. In the maximum configuration, the car is equipped with central locking, power steering, an audio system, electric windows, heated front seats and air conditioning.

Design and maintenance
The frames of the UAZ-451M and UAZ-452 vehicles consist of two longitudinal stamped beams (spars) of a channel section, connected by stamped cross members. The rear engine mount cross member is removable and bolted to the frame.
Beams and crossbars are made of face metal, the thickness of the beams is 3.5 mm.
The UAZ-451DM vehicle has a frame that differs from the frame of the UAZ-451M vehicle in the location of the rear cross members and the installation of brackets for attaching buffers at the rear end of the frame.
The UAZ-452, UAZ-452A and UAZ-452V vehicles are equipped with frames of the same design, which are not interchangeable with the UAZ-452D frame.

Before repairing, it is necessary to clean the frame from dirt, carefully inspect it and identify all defects. The reliability of rivet joints is checked by tapping them with a hammer. Loose rivet joints produce a rattling sound when tapped; such rivets must be replaced with new ones.
If necessary (if the frame loses its correct geometric shape), the frame is straightened in a cold state using devices. It is not recommended to straighten the frame by heating, as this weakens the strength of the metal.
If cracks appear in the frame parts, they are welded using electric arc welding. Before welding, the crack edges must be chamfered at an angle of 60°.
If there are long cracks on the longitudinal beams and cross members, it is necessary, in addition to welding the cracks, to additionally weld the reinforcement applied to the welded area.
The parts are riveted to the frame using heated rivets. The fit of the rivet head to the surface of the part must be tight. A 0.1 mm thick feeler gauge should not pass between the surface of the part and the rivet head.
After repair, the frame is checked for correct geometric shape and absence of distortions in the horizontal plane. The frame width at the front should be 700±3 mm, and at the rear - 1005±3 mm.
Worn holes for body mounting bolts are restored by welding and drilling (hole diameter 11 mm).
The frame is painted upon completion of the repair.
For painting, it is recommended to use auto enamel 123 or alkyd-styrene enamel MS-17.

Operation and tuning of springs on UAZ vehicles
The UAZ spring is an elastic and guiding suspension element located on the sides along the frame side members. It transfers the load from the frame structure to the chassis system, softens the shock when driving over potholes and bumps. The Russian-made part is suitable for many UAZ models and differs only in the number of sheets and geometric dimensions, which affect the load-carrying capacity of the vehicle.
Car modifications
During production, the manufacturer produced several modifications of the UAZ 31519 car. The UAZ Hunter car was created on the basis of the model. Machine modifications:

Modifications differ in the power of power plants, the presence of power steering, the number of variable gears and other characteristics.
Spring characteristics
Until 1994, cars were produced with leaf spring suspension; now modifications of the 3151 are produced with springs and leaf springs. In UAZ with indexing 10, springs with transverse and 2 longitudinal rods are installed in the front part, and 3-leaf units are installed in the rear. Tonnage on springs reaches 650 kg.

The length of the rear springs is 1250 mm. On civilian models, such as the UAZ-31512, 7 spacers of 7 mm each are installed on the rear part, in the UAZ-3151 there are 9 of them. They are tightened with 4 clamps. Load capacity has been increased by 200 kg, the rear of the body has been raised.
The front and rear spring mechanisms of the carriage layout are the same in size, interchangeable, and have a trapezoidal profile with parabolic edges. Their length is 1200 mm, the width of the gasket is 45 mm, and the thickness is 6.5 mm. There are 13 sheets in total. They are previously subjected to shot blasting and heat treatment. They are tightened with 4 clamps that limit the lateral displacement of the elements.
Springs with spring suspension are produced at the Chusovsky Metallurgical Plant. A distinctive feature of the part is the stamp on the clamp with the name of the enterprise, the date of manufacture and the quality control department stamp.
The rear 3-sheet part 31512-2912012 is made in accordance with GOST R 51585-2000, mounted on UAZ-31512, 31514-10, 3160 vehicles, also suitable for Hunter and Patriot models.

Inside, the body is divided by a metal partition into a cabin and a rear compartment. The cabins of all bodies have the same design; the design of the rear compartment depends on the purpose of the vehicle. UAZ-452 vans do not have side windows and the rear compartment has no upholstery. The sidewalls are equipped with blinds for body ventilation, and the floor is covered with wooden slats.
The rear compartments of the bodies of the UAZ-452A ambulance and the UAZ-452B bus have side windows with rotating vents. The walls and roof are covered with special cardboard, and the floor is covered with 6 mm thick plywood, onto which 2.5 mm thick polyvinyl chloride linoleum is glued.
Waterproof cardboard lined with vinyl leather, which is highly durable and can be easily removed with conventional detergents, is used as upholstery material for the sides and doors of the body.
In the front part, the roof of all bodies has a hatch to facilitate engine removal. The hatch cover is sealed with a gasket and secured to the body with two screws. There are two holes on the roof of the ambulance body for installing a special sign light and a rotating searchlight.
There is a sliding window in the upper part of the ambulance partition, and in the lower part there are additional openings for installing the rear compartment heater, air intake and air supply. In the back of a bus, the upper part of the partition is missing, and the lower part is similar to the partition of an ambulance.
The bodies are attached to the frame at ten points, and the truck cabins at four points. To secure the cabin, use the mounting points shown in sections A-A and B-B. In the attachment points between the beams of the body, cabin and frame, gaskets made of rubberized fabric are installed.
The cabs of all UAZ-452 vehicles are equipped with two soft folding seats for the driver and passenger. The driver's seat can move along the axis of the car by 80 mm. In the body of the UAZ-452A ambulance there are three folding double seats: two on the left side and one on the right, and one single on the partition of the body. There are flexible handrails on the ceiling opposite each seat. In addition, the body of the UAZ-452A ambulance is equipped with brackets and straps for attaching stretchers.

Brackets and sockets in the beams allow you to increase the height of the sides and install awning arches. At the rear of the platform, on the right side, there is a metal tool box, closed with a lid and a lock.

How to strengthen
Many car owners strengthen the springs by installing additional sheets. It is performed to increase the vehicle’s carrying capacity, improve driving performance and cross-country ability. Some craftsmen install reinforced parts after old suspensions are deformed and cracks appear when lengthening or lifting the body.

- When replacing a rear or front part with a new one, first try it on, place it in technological bowls on the frame, and support it with a wooden beam so that it does not hang down or jump out during installation. The overlay is secured with stepladders, and the bowls are positioned. The bridge is raised so that the knot sits on the cushions. The wheels are flanged, the bowls are mounted back.
To check the correct installation of the new unit, load the rear of the car, so it will settle into place better. Testing of reinforced parts is carried out at low speed.

The information application area is subject to flooding with water and dirt, causing corrosion. When leaving the factory, the frame is coated with paint, which does not protect the product.
To prevent corrosion, it is recommended to coat the area of the frame with the information text with an anti-corrosion compound. Cars of the 2019 model year do not have an identification code on the frame; a note indicating the absence of information is entered in the vehicle title.
The body number was applied to cars manufactured before June 2016. The information is located on the front frame of the body, located in the engine compartment in front of the radiator. Since June 2016, the plant has abandoned body markings; only the vehicle identification code is indicated in the PTS.
The information is printed on the engine panel and is indicated on an additional sticker located on the central pillar of the body (in the doorway).

Modern modernization

Initially, the dimensions of the future structure and the distance at which the frame will be located from the body are determined. This figure should be within 50-100 mm. The next step involves making a spacer based on the selected elevator height. For this purpose, a special square profile is used. The dimensions of its sides should be 100 mm.
12 blanks are cut from the profile. The height of each product is 120 mm. 24 squares measuring 100x100 mm are cut out of a metal sheet 2-3 mm thick. They are welded onto profile sections. The resulting cubes are irregular in shape. At the ends of each spacer, through holes with a diameter of 10 mm are made. The UAZ 469 frame, like the UAZ 3303 frame, acts as the main element of the manufactured structure. Bolts, nuts and washers are used to secure parts. You can buy them at an auto store.
To prepare the body for upcoming work, you will need to disconnect the battery by placing chocks under the wheels. Unscrew the bolts securing the radiator to the frame. If the UAZ 31514 is carburetor, then disconnect the drive rod. Then unscrew the bolts that secure the body to the frame. To lift a UAZ 469 or UAZ 3303, you will need a jack and wooden stands.
Maintenance
During periodic maintenance of the UAZ Patriot frame, the following actions are performed:

The simplest option: One person takes the hijack, jacks up the face or rear first, and substitutes the sawhorse. He does the same procedure on the other side. Then he rolls out the frame - ALL.
Reverse the procedure in reverse order.

We also installed the body in four of us. And I filmed it alone! I moved it from the frame onto a 2-wheeled cart so that the center of gravity of the body was approximately above the axle and rolled it with my hands to the far corner of the site.
