The favorite of the collective farm - KAMAZ grain truck
Harvesting is a strategic task that requires high-quality special equipment.
The generally recognized KAMAZ grain truck with a trailer is used for transporting agricultural goods. It is also in demand in industry and construction. It is not difficult to understand that its spectrum of action is wide. The model range of dump trucks allows you to find a universal machine for cargo transportation that will suit you in terms of price and quality. The impressive line of models differs in the main characteristics: load capacity, engine and number of on-board parts.
Grain trucks from KAMAZ with main features
Taking a closer look at the vehicle, everyone will notice that the predominant type of tires here is the double wheel with a 6 by 4 formula. Moreover, the design of various modifications can be either three-axle (with an additional trailer) or two-axle.
Separately, it is worth mentioning that the KAMAZ grain truck model has inter-axle and inter-wheel locking. In extreme cases, there is a device for emergency calls to the operational service. A Russian-style tachograph is also installed here, designed to monitor the driver’s work schedule.
All models are equipped with a manual transmission. This is understandable, because cargo transportation involves driving in all weather conditions on roads with different surfaces. The gas-diesel power system allows you to save on fuel.
Drivers note the main convenience for themselves - this is a low cabin, in which there is one sleeping place for rest. Perhaps this is a significant plus, especially when it comes to daily working hours.
Popular representatives in their repertoire
Currently, KAMAZ grain trucks are divided into two main types:
- Side structures;
- Tipper options with an automatic platform (there is an option - self-unloading).
To prevent cargo transportation from being expensive in terms of fuel consumption, or frequent in terms of the number of trips, you need to focus on the technical characteristics of the truck.
For example, a KAMAZ marked grain carrier 45143 can accommodate only 11.5 tons of cargo. The engine power is 300 horsepower, and the tank capacity is decent - 500 liters.
The model with index 776012 can withstand up to 14.5 tons. Here, just like in the previous version, a Euro 4 environmental class motor is built in.
The onboard modification with number 6520 can withstand up to 20 tons of transported cargo, and this is even more.
Model number 552900, which is popularly called KAMAZ grain dump truck, is attractive for the following features:
- three-way unloading;
- nominal lifting capacity 15 tons;
- large cabin with a decorated berth;
- the presence of a towing device;
- the presence of all necessary devices on the road.
The toxicity standard is the same - Euro 4. Among all the features, it should be noted that the built-in hydraulic drive is equipped with a pneumatic booster.

Collective farmer, crucian carp or pike
The “nicknames” for trucks invented on collective farms are firmly entrenched in our days.
A vehicle with increased cross-country ability, namely, the KAMAZ Pike grain truck 65117 is equipped with sealed and reinforced side platforms. The rated load capacity is 14.5 tons. This is enough to transport grain to carry out sowing work.
A hydraulic mechanism is also used to lift the platform. The platform opening and closing system is mechanical. It can be driven either automatically (during unloading) or manually.
A bright representative with modification 65207, or as it is also called, the KAMAZ agricultural grain truck, is produced with an engine of the Euro 5 environmental class.
Its carrying capacity is small - it is only 11.7 tons. But the engine power reaches 401 horsepower, which is considered a fairly strong installation. A decent fuel tank holds 400 liters.
In the arena KAMAZ vs MAZ
When you mention a domestic truck, MAZ also comes to mind.
It is impossible to say which one is better than KAMAZ or MAZ, since the choice consists of the following criteria:
- price;
- cost of consumables for maintenance and troubleshooting;
- comfort when using;
- quality and reliability.
The trucks showed excellent maneuverability and stability in any, even the most severe conditions. The price for spare parts is approximately the same. No serious deficiencies were identified.
It is definitely impossible to say that it is better, since KAMAZ grain carrier is not inferior to MAZ. It also has a good gearbox and a fairly powerful engine. It's more a matter of personal preference.
Transmission, chassis
Paired with the engine is a reliable gearbox from the famous ZF AG concern from Germany. ZF 9S 1310 – nine-speed manual gearbox. The operation of the single-disc friction clutch with the MZF 430 diaphragm is of excellent quality. The steering wheel “helps” the driver to turn the RBL power steering.
The front spring suspension has a roll stabilizer, and the rear suspension has reinforced springs and articulated reaction bars. The wheels are braked by reliable drums with a diameter of 400 mm and linings 140 mm wide.
Disc wheels are “shod” with pneumatic tires: 11.00 R20 (300 R508) or 11.00 R22.5. Rim sizes: 7.5 – 20 (190 – 508) or 8.25 – 22.5.
MAZ or KamAZ - which truck should a simple private owner choose?
Currently, there is little choice among inexpensive heavy trucks. Of course, everyone would like to buy a foreign car for minimal money, but miracles do not happen, so usually only MAZs and KamAZs are affordable to a simple private owner.
But which truck is better? Let's look at both brands and try to determine who makes better heavy duty trucks. Let's start with MAZ. Trucks of this brand are very popular at construction sites in Russia and the CIS. Some truckers even transport cargo on MAZ tractors, especially since the new models are quite comfortable and economical. But when buying used truck tractors, most private owners still prefer foreign cars, and MAZs are bought solely out of lack of money.
Features of MAZ heavy trucks:
· MAZ cars are easy to repair, especially older models. With more modern machines, you will have to contact services, but there are enough of them in any region of the Russian Federation, and heavy equipment from Belarus is well known there;
· The manufacturer claims that MAZ engines are capable of driving about 1,000,000 km without major repairs. To be honest, I somehow don’t believe this, although I’m not a truck driver, I may not know some of the nuances. It seems to me that the real mileage here without capital is closer to 500,000 km, judging by the reviews of real owners. And if you look at it, the engines at MAZ are mostly Russian YaMZ. Only various small models have MMZ motors.
As for KamAZ, these trucks are considered and are the most popular and widespread in Russia. Unlike the Minsk Automobile Plant, the KamAZ plant is currently a more viable enterprise, and does not exist solely due to government subsidies, like the MAZ plant.
Problems with new KamAZ trucks periodically arise, but the factory workers try to quickly eliminate them, although sometimes it seems that they are eliminating what they want, and not what really should have been dealt with long ago.
Buyers and drivers of KamAZ vehicles note that Russian trucks are distinguished by high payload capacity, low fuel consumption, and at the same time are able to maintain high speed on the highway even with a maximum load.
As confirmation of the reliability of KamAZ vehicles and their advantages over MAZs, we can cite the example that KamAZs have always won at international rallies; MAZ beat it only once in the Turkmen Desert Race “Amul-Khazar 2018” rally raid.
Users say the main advantages of KamAZ trucks over MAZs are reliability, higher cross-country ability, lower fuel consumption, and higher traction and dynamic performance. The latter is due to the fact that KamAZ has its own engines, the KamAZ-740 series.
Brakes and safety systems
Unlike many other truck models from the Kama Automobile Plant, KamAZ-652O6 is equipped with disc brakes, both front and rear. Also included in their design is a mountain brake. As standard, the cars are offered with ABS (anti-lock braking) and ASR (anti-slip) systems, which help ensure a decent level of safety when driving on wet or icy roads. The heavy vehicle is reliably protected from skidding and does not lose precise controllability in difficult operating conditions.

The presence of the electro-pneumatic EBS system significantly reduces braking time, preventing premature wear of the brake pads. Decent performance efficiency is demonstrated on the KamAZ-652O6 by ESP (exchange rate stability system) technology. This active traffic safety control system helps to avoid skidding and very quickly restore vehicle control in any situation. ECAS technology can adjust ground clearance depending on general road conditions and the current load of the truck. It also improves the smoothness of the car when passing through rough terrain, maintains safe trajectories when cornering and significantly reduces braking distance.
KAMAZ and MAZ grain dump trucks
Modern automobile factories produce a wide range of dump trucks, which seemingly cover all the needs of truck buyers. Look at the impressive assortment of the Kama Automobile Plant and you will see dozens of models and modifications of dump trucks from the 15-ton KAMAZ-65115 to the heavy 6520. However, universal solutions are not always the only right choice.
Grain trucks, or “agricultural trucks”, as they are popularly called, are a truck with a body of increased volume to maximize the load capacity of the chassis. To increase productivity, it often makes sense to pay attention to a grain truck with a dump trailer. KamAZ, by the way, produces grain trucks and dump trucks of the EURO-4 environmental class in Russia. Models KAMAZ-45143 and 45144. And NEFAZ, a subsidiary of the Kama auto giant, produces dump trailers with side unloading (8560). The very first agricultural truck KAMAZ-55102 immediately received good reviews and gained popularity among rural workers, gave birth to a new type of truck - “ SELKHOZNIK ” and became unambiguously associated with it. However, the performance characteristics of these cars do not always allow for maximum effect. There are more load-carrying chassis that will significantly increase the effect, this is the first thing. Secondly, it is possible to increase the volume of the body mounted on a chassis with a payload of +/- 15 tons. Compare the 15 cubic meters of a serial agricultural truck from the Kama Automobile Plant with the 25-27 cubic meters of similar models from special equipment factories. The difference is obvious. Thus, maximum mileage efficiency of an agricultural dump truck is achieved, regardless of the brand - this is true for both MAZ and KAMAZ. And grain trucks on imported chassis are no exception. The body of an agricultural dump truck is usually made of steel and has a rectangular profile. The canopy of the sides of the Kamaz Selkhoznik vehicle can be either lower or upper, and most often combined. In order to increase the useful volume, extension sides are widely used. Hydraulic cylinders from leading global manufacturers are used to lift the platform.
2 types of agricultural grain carriers
- Onboard
- With tipper platform
The difference is clear from the classification. You don’t need the ability to self-unload - we take an onboard grain truck, otherwise a KAMAZ or MAZ agricultural dump truck is just right. A special feature of grain trucks with a dump body is the direction of unloading. Most often this is the side, to which the back is sometimes added. This is due to the technological features of unloading at granaries and other agricultural facilities.
KAMAZ agricultural grain truck with trailer
A trailer improves truck performance - that's an axiom. One driver with one car performs almost 2 times more transport work. Therefore, if there is work for your KamAZ grain truck, then the point of buying a grain trailer is obvious. The truck market offers a large selection of trailers, both new and used.

Exterior, interior, cost of new and used KamAZ-65117
In 2004, the first KamAZ-65117 models were not much different from other trucks of the Kama Automobile Plant. They were equipped with old-style cabs with a large bumper painted in body color, round headlights and a classic radiator grille. In those days, the manufacturer cared little about driver comfort. The car was produced in this form for only a few years, after which a deep restyling was carried out. The cabin has a more modern look, with streamlined headlights, a new bumper and two-level support. Thanks to the installation of a new one-piece windshield and dual exterior mirrors with different viewing angles, visibility from the driver's seat has been significantly improved.
The new cabin received air suspension, which significantly reduced vibration in the cabin and increased driver comfort. Two or three seats are installed inside the cabin; the driver's seat has adjustment mechanisms in several planes. A sleeping bag can also be installed here, and a table can be installed. The instrument panel remains single-section, but is now made of impact-resistant plastic with an anti-reflective coating. In some trim levels, the truck comes with power windows, air conditioning and heated seats. Also, in such configurations, the car is equipped with halogen light bulbs and upgraded fog lights.
The cost of the new KamAZ-65117 in the simplest configuration with a conventional body starts at 3,740,000 rubles; a flatbed dump truck can be purchased for 2.8 million rubles.
Cars with installed CMU and Kanglim manipulator can cost about 7 million rubles. On the used equipment market there are enough offers for the sale of used KamAZ-65117. The price of such cars depends on the year of manufacture, mileage and technical condition. The truck, with no serious technical problems, is offered at a price of 1.7 million rubles.
