Adjusting valve clearances on the KamAZ-740 engine
The KamAZ-740 engine will be the main topic of this article. Guided by the data from this article, any experienced and novice driver will be able to quickly and most importantly
The requirements of the Australian market have changed significantly over the past 40 years, especially with the introduction of Kensworth trucks. One of the models of this truck was in service for almost all of these 40 years, namely the truck - Kenworth (Kenworth) K100. Of course, during this time the truck was modified and changed, but this vehicle served many drivers. It is clear that new technologies now require a new car and now we can see the appearance of the Kenworth K200. With the introduction of the new model in 2011, many changes have been made. The first thing that catches your eye is the enlarged radiator grille. This had to be done in order to improve engine cooling. In general, in recent years, engine cooling requirements have changed significantly and increased. The average size of such a truck is 25-26 meters. This made it possible to create comfortable and spacious cabins for drivers. This is especially important for those drivers who make long journeys. Over the years, a variety of trucks have appeared on the Australian market for a variety of needs, and over time they are all becoming more convenient and convenient. The result of such changes was the appearance of the Kenworth K200. Without making fundamental changes to this model range, the manufacturer was able to significantly improve the truck and make a modern car that would fit into the Australian market. The need for modern cooling and a new engine increased. Changes in design and interior also please many drivers. Thus, the new K200 model appeared. The new truck is already significantly different from the previous model, and this can be said not only about its appearance. The characteristics of the K200 also meet all modern requirements. In addition, there is much more space for the driver inside. A test drive of the new truck was carried out on the roads of Melbourne. Unfortunately, the test model was not fully loaded and it was not possible to fully understand how good the new transmission is. Although there is no doubt about the quality of the new model, given the success of the previous one. If you've driven a K100 in the past, you already have an idea about the new K200. But in any case, the K200 is strikingly different from its predecessor. Naturally, the driver's seat of the truck has also changed. Visibility from the inside is excellent, and the ergonomics are pleasantly surprising. It's amazing how much difference just small changes can make to convenience.
The engine here is the familiar Cummins ISX with a power of 550 horsepower. This engine is very familiar to Australian drivers and has proven its reliability over the past few years. The truck has an 18-speed transmission manufactured by Eaton. The Ultrashift Plus gearbox is a serious innovation. The capabilities of the new transmission are impressive and are sure to improve the truck's performance. On the road, combinations of a good engine, transmission and gearbox make the driver's life much easier. The gearbox in the new car is automatic and during the entire period of its use I did not have to manually change gears. The speed change occurs exactly when it is needed. The gearbox is sensitive and everything can be controlled only by pressing the pedal. The mechanics of the Kenworth K200 are similar to the previous model, but major changes have been made to the geometry and layout of the cab and some of its parts. The engine layout was also changed. All this improved the truck's handling. And the sales of the truck are very, very good. Analyzing the characteristics and performance of the truck, it should be noted that the new car feels completely different. Basically, the changes affected many small details. The driver's seat and its position have become much better and more comfortable. The steering wheel now feels more pleasant in your hands. The dashboard, doors and roof have been changed. Plus the truck is a little better, add in the new engine and the K200 is a great performer on the road.
The new design should attract buyers and contribute to a better position in the market, especially among competitors. After all, today much attention is paid to the convenience of the driver and the good appearance of the truck. There is much more space in the cabin due to the fact that the roof is now higher. Naturally, there is also a place to sleep inside, which undoubtedly pleases. You can actually walk upright in the cabin and this is much more comfortable than in the previous model. The length of the bed can vary depending on the chosen model from 2.3 meters to 2.8 meters. This shows how much more space there is in the new model. The cabin of this truck alone is worth it. The innovation doesn't stop there. The Kenworth K200 is equipped with the latest electronic safety technologies, namely EBSS, brake monitoring system, active cruise control and stability control. Previously, this was only found on top-end cars. The car's systems constantly monitor who is in front and, if something happens, the car slows down or brakes. The system reacts only to those cars that are in front of you, but if someone from a nearby lane simply passes in front of you and drives ahead, the system will not react at all.
It should be noted that the system will not brake sharply, it brakes smoothly, but if something happens, the driver can use a sharper brake by pressing the pedal, this will help prevent an accident or collision. The good news is that all the truck’s electronics work correctly and smoothly, which leads to little wear and tear on the vehicle. Of course, if you are not used to using so many electronics, you will feel uncomfortable at first. However, once you get used to this type of control, when the driver is constantly assisted by electronics, it will be difficult to get out of the habit, and it is not necessary, since modern trucks are much more efficient than older models. The cabin has special places for storing the driver's belongings. There are also drink holders and other nice things. Sound insulation in the Kenworth K200 is excellent. Dust does not enter the cabin. That is, the driver practically rests behind the wheel. Engine and cabin cooling have been significantly improved. All this creates a wonderful environment for the driver. The Kenworth K series of trucks are typical of Australian roads and the new K200 is sure to be very popular. Naturally, the new truck is not similar to previous models, but modern roads require changes and these changes are only for the better.

Kenworth
brand is one of the most famous not only in the States, but also in other countries. Of course, it also occurs here, although it is less numerous than others. But it was these vehicles that became the first representatives of US civilian trucks in our country in the post-war period.

In the early 1970s, a whole batch of Kenworth cars came to the USSR, and of course, for a reason. The reason was the purchase of several livestock complexes in the USA. For their functioning, special vehicles were intended - feed dispensers, fertilizer applicators, and other miscellaneous ones that were included in the purchase package. One of them, a single Kenworth W923
, was captured on camera during testing at NAMI.

By the way, she was lucky - she fell into caring hands. Its driver, who worked on the car from the very beginning, saved it, bought it back twenty years later, and drove it a record - more than four million kilometers. During this time the Kenworth
was transformed, becoming a single tractor, acquired a new engine to replace the two-stroke Detroit Diesel, and a sleeping compartment. Now the owner and the car have retired to their native Krasnodar.

According to one of the last owners, this Kenwoth
is from the same batch, and was a tractor from the very beginning, only without a sleeping bag.
And the geography of delivery is close to the previous one - this tractor was initially “registered” in the Rostov region. W900
appeared in our country, it had already been produced for 12 years. Its distinctive feature was a one-piece hood-fender assembly that folds forward instead of the old one with folding sides.

In those same years, deliveries of Kenworth trucks to the USSR began, almost unknown to ordinary people. The fact is that these were off-road models for the oil and gas market, in which Kenworth was already a reputable manufacturer. Today it owns more than half of the world market in this segment, and deliveries to us continue actively. The most common model is the Kenworth C500
. The model is built on a road construction chassis with a reinforced frame. Engine power reaches 575 hp. Reinforced axles, Rockwell or Clark. Gearboxes are both manual and automatic. The photo shows the newly arrived “500th” being unloaded at the port. Then he will go by rail to our “north”, from where, most likely, he will never return.

Especially for export, the company also has a cabover analogue, Kenworth K500
. In brand designations, by the way, the letter “K” always indicates such an arrangement. Due to their shorter length, the cars are a little more maneuverable and are very popular, including in our “northers”. They also went through an update a few years ago. Externally, this was expressed in the use of a cabin from the Dutch DAF tractor of the “senior” XF series, part of the same concern. It is clear that the cabin is much more modern, and therefore more comfortable. It is still based on the C500 chassis in 6x6, 8x6, 8x8, 10x6 versions with different wheelbases.

And in 1993, Kenworth had the chance to become the next “American” assembled in Russia, sixty years after the GAZ-AA “one and a half”. Novotrak
joint venture was formed by three partners: our
ZIL
, and the American
Kenworth
and
Caterpillar
. Two tractors and chassis were brought as samples, differing in the power of Caterpillar engines: 305, 350, 425 hp. They wandered around exhibitions, and then were sold out, remaining in Russia. But the joint venture fell apart without going into production.

In ordinary life, the red dump truck got lost somewhere, but
until recently, T800 This first generation car (still with round headlights) was designed for highway use, but in poor conditions. Engine power is average, 350 hp, which should have been enough with a total weight of 29,200 kg, on leaf spring suspension and with a 15-speed Fuller manual transmission. In general, the model is the widest in scope in the program, from skinny two-axle “mail trucks” to heavy timber trucks and dump trucks. Hood shapes are very diverse, as are engines, gearboxes, sleeping bags and lists of additional equipment.

The third sample was the K100
with an integrated
Aerodyne
. It was distinguished by a powerful 425 hp engine and frost-resistant design of all communications. For many years he faithfully served his master from the Bryansk region.

Most Kenworths in Russia were three-axle mainline tractors. But there were also more interesting combinations. This single K100
with Aerodyne was first used as a container carrier, then it received a homemade platform with bunks and transported timber.

. Then, as usual, they laid it on its side and dented the cabin. She ended up at the famous Goodwill, where they rolled up her fourth axle, and she returned to the mainline transportation of containers. Then a new owner bought it, updated it, repainted it and turned it into a “bag” - alone. She still works in St. Petersburg.

A great rarity is Kenworth T300
. And even as a tree transplanter. Given the specifics of his work, he can rarely be seen on the roads. Since the wheel formula is 6x4, “toothy” off-road tires on the rear axles help cope with off-road conditions.

The Kenworth T600
was the very first aerodynamic hood in the United States, appearing in 1985. The characteristic shape of the hood earned it the nickname “anteater.” In terms of components, it was no different from the “classic” W900, and was well known to Russian carriers.

Over time, he changed his appearance and turned into the no less famous T2000
. The numbers encode the year of the start of production. It still occurs periodically in all regions of the country.

The latest relatively mass-produced Kenworth model in Russia today is the updated T660
. Newer ones have not yet been seen on the tracks, but we hope that the history of Kenworth in Russia is not over yet.
