The DEK-251 crane is a full-rotation crawler jib crane with a diesel-electric drive. All its mechanisms have an autonomous drive.

The crane with individual electric drive mechanisms is mounted on a running gear with a multi-roller crawler bogie with three support rollers.

The slewing support is roller, single-row, with intersecting rollers.

Each of the booms of the DEK-251 crawler crane can be equipped with a fixed jib 5 m long, to which an auxiliary lifting hook is suspended.

If transportation over significant distances is required, the operator's cabin, trolleys, and gearboxes are dismantled. At the same time, the portal and part of the counterweight are also removed.

The DEK-251 crawler crane is transported on a pair of large vehicles and one non-standard trawl. Also, the transfer of the specified machine is carried out by rail and along areas with hard surfaces on dolly-type trolleys. Trailers with a tractor are used for this purpose. It is allowed to transport the modification on a car trailer or self-propelled within the boundaries of the processed object.

Rail carriers use a couple of specialized platforms. In this case, the crane is partially disassembled. The following elements are removed from it and secured accordingly:

caterpillar carts with gearboxes;
cable drum;
mobile frame;
ladder;
driver's cabin.

With this method, the arrow is not removed if it is shorter than 14 meters. This element is lowered to its maximum reach so that the head is placed above the second platform without being disconnected from the main mechanism. The drum, bogies and cabin are tied together with guy wires made of suitable wire on one car.

On the second platform there is a jib with a stand, inserts, guys, a box with fasteners, a cabin and a ladder. The carrying capacity of each railway platform must be at least 60 tons, the loading scheme is 251.4-N SB. To prevent deformation of the body part during loading and unloading operations, special traverse elements or spacer pipes are used.
