Greetings, tankers! Here's Wotpack and a review of the Kirovets-1, a new Tier 8 Soviet premium heavy tank in World of Tanks. As usual, we’ll first look at the performance characteristics to form a general idea of the technique, its advantages and disadvantages, and then we’ll move on to the guide on how to play.

TTX Kirovets-1
Firepower
Before us is the owner of a 122 mm gun with a one-time damage of 390 units. Armor penetration with a basic sub-caliber projectile is 221 mm, and with a special cumulative projectile it is 270 mm. Exactly the same parameters for Object 703 Option II, IS-3 with M3, IS-5. The accuracy is 0.43 at 100 meters, and the aiming time is 2.97 seconds, which is not so bad for a Soviet TT.
It remains a mystery why he had such a long reload, but because of it, the damage per minute of 1877 units is one of the lowest. Inconvenient vertical aiming angles -5...+18 degrees add to the discomfort.
The sub-caliber's flight speed is an impressive 1400 m/s, but it's not that much use, because with its long-range accuracy there's no point in even trying to shoot. Kumuli fly at a speed of 820 m/s.
Vitality
The safety factor is a good 1550 units and what makes it stand out from its classmates is its good nominal armor. The tower in the frontal projection is strong and can tank especially against those players who are not aware of its weak points:
- on the sides of the gun it penetrates into the gun mantlet (220-240 mm there)
- the bar on the left breaks closer to the gun (about 250 mm)
armor scheme
is very reminiscent of the Object 703 Option II, so it can tank well even at higher level vehicles. However, all the armor is negated by the driver's hatch, located immediately under the turret, which penetrates from 200 mm. NLD is located at an angle of 90 degrees, can sometimes catch a ricochet. With its sides, Kirovets-1 tanks confidently.
Mobility and reconnaissance
The mobility of the Kirovets is clearly a competitive advantage compared to other Soviet heavy vehicles. Due to its low weight and excellent engine, it has a high specific power, so it accelerates briskly. The maximum forward/reverse speed of 42/20 km is also one of the best. It is also worth noting the viewing radius of 360 meters, which is 10 more than the standard value of the USSR TT.

Engine
Those who are planning to purchase the Kirovets K-9000 will be interested in the question: what engine is installed? Some models are equipped with an OM 457 LA six-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 11.9 liters and manufactured by the German Mercedes-Benz brand. There are also models equipped with an eight-cylinder V-shaped OM 502LA with a volume of 15.9 liters and a power of 516 hp.
OM 457 LA
Each K-9000 engine is additionally equipped with turbocharging. Before being supplied to the turbine, the air is forcibly cooled, which makes it possible to pump a larger volume of air into the cylinders. Fuel injection adjustment is carried out via electronic systems. Each cylinder has its own injector pumps, adapted for the use of domestic fuel.
It should be noted that the engine pre-heating system is provided as standard and guarantees high-quality starting at sub-zero temperatures. The weight of a full fuel bunker is 1.03 tons. Each fuel tank is equipped with elements for additional cleaning and automatic heating of fuel if its temperature drops below -10 degrees. Each model of the K-9000 tractor has a different engine power, which can range from 354 to 516 hp. K-9000 fuel consumption is 150 (205) g/hp per hour (g/kW per hour).
Fuel tank
The tank provides a filling capacity of 1,030 liters , has a filter element for cleaning the fuel mixture, a water separator and an electric heating element (starts automatically at temperatures below -10 degrees).
Transmission
All modifications of tractors equipped with power plants of no more than 430 hp are equipped with an automatic transmission of the Powershift system, the design of which is based on the dual connection of two manual gearboxes.
In addition, the gearbox has a dual clutch with two independently operating discs, which made it possible to use it as a regular automatic transmission without sacrificing torque. The gearbox operates in four ranges, each of which has four forward and two reverse speeds, for a total of sixteen forward and eight reverse.
Tractors with an engine from 450 to 520 hp are equipped with a TwinDisc gearbox, which ensures gear shifting in one range, while completely eliminating any interruption in the power flow. The number of gears in the range is 2 reverse and 12 forward.
The tractor reaches speeds from 3.5 to 36 km/h.
Chassis system
Both axles of the tractor are driven, thanks to which its unique cross-country ability is achieved, which is also facilitated by the use of “no-spin” technology. Each axle gearbox is equipped with differential cross-wheel self-locking mechanisms. Gear transmissions in the axle gearbox and final drives are placed in such a way that they provide maximum agricultural clearance. Gearboxes and axle gears are manufactured using high-tech equipment with maximum precision. The main parts of the box are made of high-strength steel. The brake system has a pneumatic drum-type drive.
The drive axles are reliable and provide sufficient maneuverability of the unit. The torque transmission ratio is 17.5.
The axle gearboxes are equipped with cross-wheel differential mechanisms with a self-locking function (“no-spin”), which allows increasing the vehicle’s maneuverability.
The gears in the central axle housing and in the planetary-type side gearboxes are spaced apart, which increases the clearance to the ground and reduces the load on the axles.
Gearbox and axle gears are manufactured to high precision processing requirements. For the drive shaft friction parts, sulfocyanated disk devices and especially strong steel are used.
Drum-type brake mechanisms with pneumatic drive. The front axle is sprung to improve handling.
Steering
“Kirovets” is famous for its high-quality articulated solar frame. For the manufacture of turning mechanisms, hinges are used that work effectively in the horizontal and vertical planes, which ensures the smoothest movement of the vehicle, increasing its maneuverability and cross-country ability. In the horizontal plane, the angle of rotation of the frame is 16 degrees in each direction, while the turning radius on the outer wheels is 7.4 m.
To improve the characteristics of the hinge mechanism, a plain bearing is installed. The movement of the hinge in the horizontal plane is ensured by a replaceable pair of bushings sliding in the tubular element. At the same time, to reduce the negative impact of the environment, the hinge mechanism is protected with special cuffs. To improve the quality of steering, an electro-hydraulic power steering with Zaur-Danfoss dispensers is used. To ensure more accurate movement, the unit can be equipped with GPS navigation.
Hydraulic system and attachments
“Kirovets” K-9000 has impeccable technical characteristics, which allows it to be used with most types of attachments.
The hydraulic system consists of a Sauer-Danfos pump, a Bosh-Rexroth hydraulic distributor, which has an additional filter element and a radiator designed to cool the working fluid and a 200-liter supply tank. The LS system regulates the intensity of the flow of working fluid and the speed of its supply.
The main advantage of the system is the reduction of consumption and prevention of loss of hydraulic fluid. The system independently reduces pressure and reduces flow, adjusting its parameters to the desired load. The main disadvantage of the system is its complexity, due to which it requires more precise adjustment.
Tire and wheel sizes
K-9000 has a wheel diameter with a profile width of 800 or 900 mm. In this case, the ratio of height and width of the profile is 55.6%, and the landing diameter of the tractor wheel is 32 inches. The K-9000 tractor is equipped with tires whose size is 900/55R32 or 800/60R32. Tires of this type have increased cross-country ability and the ability to double, which significantly increases the maneuverability of the tractor.
With such dimensions, how much should a Kirovets wheel weigh? The weight of the K-9000 wheel reaches more than 400 kg.
Articulated frame
A rotating mechanism with horizontal and vertical hinge joints gives the unit controlled maneuvering and copying of the soil profile off-road, which reduces the load on the frame elements.
The front and rear half-frames fold (rotate) at an angle of 35 degrees. The horizontal shift angle is 16 degrees. The outer wheel in a turn turns with a radius of 7.4 m.
The vertical hinge device uses ShS bearings (sliding joints) with an increased service life due to lip sealing.
The horizontal hinge device is made in the form of a replaceable pair of bushings sliding along the tubular element. The mechanism is protected by cuffs.
The Zauer-Danfoss steering gear and its EHPS-V power steering with electro-hydraulic mechanism allow the connection of GPS precision farming equipment.
Advantages and disadvantages
Let us summarize the tactical and technical characteristics of Kirovets-1, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses.
Advantages:
- high flight speed of the basic subcaliber;
- strong nominal armor;
- tanks well from the side;
- good dynamics;
- high speed;
- viewing radius.
Flaws:
- a mediocre weapon in all respects;
- low damage per minute;
- poor stabilization;
- breaks through the forehead of the tower;
- the mechanical drive hatch on the VLD is easily broken through;
- low maneuverability.
Device
The K-700 frame consisted of two half-frames connected by a hinge device. The chassis had four driving wheels without discs.
The model's transmission included a cardan drive, axles and a gearbox. The Kirovets did not have a clutch; it was replaced by a drain pedal. The 16-speed hydraulically controlled transmission had 4 standard gears, 2 neutral, up/down shift and 4 modes. The total number of speeds was 24. They were switched without loss of power.

How to play
Kirovets-1 is positioned as a heavy breakthrough tank and this is facilitated by good armor and excellent mobility. This is a first-line vehicle that must fight on the front line, tanking and exchanging its margin of safety.
It is important to remember the vulnerabilities in the armor:
- hide the driver's hatch behind covers;
- try not to expose the tower on the left side to the enemy (move out so that it is covered);
- move the cannon to make it more difficult to aim the gun mantlet, or cover the driver's hatch with it.
