Car exterior and interior

The New Cargo modification uses stamped wheels with 225/75 R16 tires; installation of cast parts at the factory is not provided.

The car body is painted with standard enamels; metallic paint is used for an additional fee.

The factory uses an electrically heated windshield (included in the basic equipment), and heated seats for the driver and passenger are provided. There is a socket for a radio in the instrument panel, and the speakers of the sound system are located in the doors.

Specifications

All Cargo modifications are equipped with a ladder-type frame on which towing hooks are attached. The front axle is mounted on a spring suspension with double-acting shock absorbers, and leaf springs are used at the rear.

To reduce speed, front disc brakes with a floating caliper are used; drum mechanisms are retained at the rear with automatic adjustment of the gap between the shoe and the drum. The machines are equipped with a hydraulic power steering mechanism with variable gain (depending on speed).

Weight and dimensions

Weight and dimensions of the UAZ-2360 vehicle:

The later released New Cargo, based on the Patriot car, has comparable overall dimensions. The all-metal platform with folding rear and side sides has dimensions of 2470x1870 mm, the height with the installed awning is 1400 mm. The cargo compartment area is 4.62 m², the useful volume reaches 6.46 m³ (designed to transport 4 pallets of 800x1200 mm format).

Engine and transmission

The UAZ Cargo is equipped with an in-line 4-cylinder ZMZ-409-06 engine with a distributed fuel injection system and a catalytic exhaust gas converter. The engine has a displacement of 2693 cm³ and develops a power of 135 hp. With.

An early modification of the UAZ-2360 Cargo was equipped with a ZMZ-409-10 gasoline engine with different technical characteristics. The unit develops a power of 128 hp. With. and complies with Euro-2 environmental standards.

The transmission included a domestic 5-speed gearbox and a 2-speed transfer gearbox of the classic type (with torque transmission by gears). A single lever is used to control the transfer mechanism; the introduction of gears with helical teeth has reduced the noise level.

In city traffic, the engine consumes up to 18 liters of fuel. For refueling, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 92 or 95 is used.

An early modification of the UAZ-2360 burns 13.2 liters of gasoline per 100 km on the highway (according to the manufacturer), in the city the parameter reaches 16-19 liters (depending on the air temperature and driving mode). The fuel supply is stored in 2 metal containers, which are fixed along the side members (capacity 42.5 liters each).

UAZ load capacity

The indicator has a value of 725 kg. The rear suspension design with leaf springs is not designed to withstand overload. If the sheets are overweight, they bend in the opposite direction, which leads to breakage of the suspension elements.

The low weight of the cargo is criticized by car owners who compare the UAZ Cargo with its analog Niva-ViS, capable of carrying up to 1400 kg of cargo.

Cabin

One of the main advantages that the owner of a UAZ Cargo acquires is a high level of interior comfort. Like the basic UAZ Patriot models, the truck’s cabin is equipped with seats from the Korean Ssang Young Rexton SUV. These are very comfortable car seats with a wide range of adjustments, comfortable headrests, lateral support and lumbar support.

True, there is a minor and insignificant “fly in the ointment”: since the seats were not originally designed for this model, their adjustment lever ends up being pressed by the door. Therefore, it will not be possible to make adjustments while driving: this can only be done with the door slightly open.

The instrument panel is “patriotic”, made of inconspicuous but high-quality plastic. The sound and vibration insulation of the cabin is excellent. In addition to the hood and engine compartment, the bottom of the truck is also lined with sound-insulating materials. For cars of this class, the level of noise insulation deserves an excellent rating. On long trips there is no fatigue at all.

This will be especially appreciated by those who have driven tens and hundreds of thousands of kilometers on “loaves”, and (or) have experience of long-distance (300-500 km) trips in these outdated cars. It's really difficult physically! After such a trip, the whole body hurts, there is noise in the ears... UAZ “Cargo” provides the driver with truly royal conditions. Annoying noises and vibrations in the cabin occur only when driving at a speed of 120 km/h and above. This car is still not suitable for such speeds. If you drive 90-100 km/h, there is almost complete silence in the cabin.

The seating position in the cabin is high, providing the driver with good visibility. The presence of large rear-view mirrors on long-length brackets contributes to confident control of the situation on the road.

The pedal assembly is also convenient on the truck. Working with the pedals does not require unnecessary tension: unlike the “tadpole” and the “loaf”, on the UAZ “Cargo” all the pedals are located at the same level. At the same time, there is free space to the left of the pedal assembly, which is useful for changing position and resting the leg. The steering column is adjustable.

The downside of the UAZ Cargo cabin is the complete lack of free space. Both the driver and the only passenger can fit comfortably, and there is somewhere to put documents and small things (except for the glove compartment, there is a drawer between the seats). But there will be nowhere to put even a small bag or outerwear if two people go on a trip.

Difficulty of maintenance

The design of the car uses parts from off-road vehicles from the UAZ plant, so there are no difficulties during maintenance. The disadvantage is the tight layout of the engine compartment, which makes access to engine parts difficult.

The bumper has a footrest, but some components are difficult to reach. For example, to check the oil level in the crankcase, you need to lean over the engine and reach the dipstick with your hand. This leaves dirt and motor oil stains on your clothes.
