MAN TGA: characteristics and operating experience

It is becoming increasingly easier to see a MAN TGA truck on Russian roads.
The car really caught the fancy of motor transport companies, which are actively buying it from the manufacturer. The car also has disadvantages. Fuel consumption may be slightly higher than that of modern truck models of competing brands, since the top gear in the gearbox is not direct, but overdrive. The turbocharger whistles loudly as it gains speed (this is a problem for all MANs). The viewing angle through the right mirror is small, and the electric drive that raises and lowers the cabin is very slow. The steering lacks precision. The lever of the standard ComfortShift gearbox has a lot of effort and travel. Noise insulation is slightly worse than that of the Scania tractor with the new V8 engine.

Another problem is that not all spare parts that often fail are yet available aftermarket - but this is a common problem for all new truck models. Original MAN spare parts are delivered quite quickly - delivery from Germany takes 7-10 days. But their prices are original.

This type involves the continuous use of a generator to generate energy for an unlimited number of hours per year. Such generators are able to withstand overload, unlike the LTP type. True, only by 10% of the permissible power and no more than once every 12 hours for a duration of no longer than one hour.

The volume of the MAN D2866 4V is 11.9 liters. The weight of the engines is 1180 kg, and the power they generate, depending on the modification, is 280 or 322 kW. The maximum torque of engines in this series is 1782 Nm or 1708 Nm, depending on the configuration.

The working volume of the MAN D2866 2V engines is also 11.9 liters. Depending on the modification, the rotation speed can be 1500 rpm (50 Hz) or 1800 rpm (60 Hz). In accordance with this, the generated power reaches 360-400 kW.
