KamAZ 4308 is a middle-class truck produced by the Kama Automobile Plant. How it all began
By the beginning of the 2000s, as a result of the crisis, car production at Zil, which was the flagship of medium-duty vehicle production in the former USSR, had significantly decreased. Minsk automakers, who previously specialized in the production of large-capacity trucks, were the first to try to occupy the vacated niche. Minsk residents produced a 6-ton MAZ 4370 in 200. In 2003, KAMAZ employees followed the same path and launched the production of KAMAZ 4308 medium trucks.
Both Minsk residents and Chelny residents, mastering a new class of cars for themselves and not counting on any particular success, reduced the costs of development and implementation into production to a minimum, unifying most of the components and parts of the new cars with units of the main model range. However, time has shown that the demand for medium-duty trucks in the transportation market is constantly growing. An important role in this is played by traffic density on roads in large cities and metropolitan areas, where restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles and trucks are gradually being introduced. Against this background, the appearance of the KAMAZ 4308 medium truck turned out to be very opportune.

KAMAZ 4308 is the lightest car in the Kama Automobile Plant model line. This is a low-loader universal truck with a gross weight of 12 tons. Today, the Kama Automobile Plant continues small-scale production of 4308 trucks. The price of a new copy is at least 2 million rubles. The long-wheelbase modification will cost 2.5 million, and may be more expensive depending on the additional options selected.
Since the model appeared in the first half of the 2000s, this truck can often be found on the used market. Thus, the recommended price of a used KamAZ-4308 is around 1.5 million rubles - this is what they ask for copies of the 2012-2013 model year. And modifications for 2008 will cost 700 thousand rubles. Engine
What distinguishes KamAZ 4308 from other products of the brand is that it received an exclusive engine. If there was a ready-made engine, the model could go on sale much earlier. The development of the motor in Naberezhnye Chelny began in 2001. At that time, the company actively collaborated with the American company Cummins. The latter line included a motor suitable for the KamAZ 4308 family.
Before the start of production of units at the facilities of the Cummins Kama enterprise, the truck was equipped with old-type Cummins units with a capacity of 140 hp. and volume 3.9 l. The engine was assembled in factories in China, and it itself complied with Euro-2 class. With the advent of the Cummins Kama department, the production of Cummins ISBe engines that meet the Euro-5 class began. These units had a volume of 4.5 liters (4-cylinder versions) and 6.7 liters (6-cylinder models). Their power was 140 and 210 hp. respectively. All units received a Common Rail electrically controlled fuel system.
Due to the steel plate covering the cylinder block from below, it was possible to significantly reduce the noise level. The engine itself received a 4-valve cylinder head. A fan was mounted on the front toe of the crankshaft, which is the best option for cabover cars. The viscous coupling ensured quick warm-up of the engine.
The main disadvantage of Cummins ISBe units was the regular breakdown of starters. Only on engines of recent years was the problem finally solved. Otherwise, the engine turned out to be very solid.
Driver's workplace
The comfortable driver's cabin of KAMAZ 4308 is equipped with soft, comfortable seats for the driver and passenger. The cabin height is 1505 mm, there is one berth. Cabin type: restyled. Cabin manufacturer Grammer (Germany).

Cabin and design
KamAZ-4308 looks quite modern and original. At the same time, the model retained the features of classic KamAZ trucks. Therefore, the car is unlikely to be confused with any other member of the family. In fact, the cabin for this model received a slight cosmetic restyling. The list of updates includes original light optics and a modified radiator grille. In addition, let's pay attention to the modified shape of the hood and the line of the windshield. Rather, on the contrary, the presence of plastic reduces the cost of the structure, and thereby has a beneficial effect on the cost of repairs in the event of a major frontal accident with severe deformation. In addition, thanks to plastic, the truck began to suffer less corrosion. The fact is that galvanizing the cab for the KamAZ-4308 is not provided.
The top versions of KamAZ-4308 are equipped with a berth installed in the rear of the cabin. The interior of the model is designed in a classic style and looks good due to high-quality upholstery and good fit of parts. The front panel is made of plastic, although previously steel was used for its manufacture. The cabin is quite quiet, the engine is almost inaudible - largely thanks to the spring suspension, which perfectly resists holes and ruts.
