Design features of KamAZ - 43118
Unlike many other KamAZ vehicles, on the 43118 the loading platform is installed close to the cabin, which makes it possible to make it as long and spacious as possible.
The spare wheel, which is usually located on KamAZ trucks behind the cab, is located on the KamAZ-43118 at the rear under the frame. The cargo platform, equipped with metal folding sides, is produced in both a flatbed and a tilt version. The vehicle's carrying capacity is 11 tons (in the new version, it was initially determined by the manufacturer at 10 tons). KamAZ-43118 was equipped with an automatic tire pressure control system. On this model, the tire pressure on all axles is maintained equal, and this eliminates the inconveniences that sometimes plague the operation of all-wheel drive trucks. Using auto-adjustment, you can reduce the pressure when overcoming difficult terrain, and change this parameter without leaving the cab.
The new version of KamAZ-43118 tires have a standard size of 425/85R21 and the indexing “J”, which implies a speed tolerance of 100 km/h. Another design feature of the modern version of the KamAZ-43118 is the hydraulic cab lift, without which tilting the high cab would be very problematic.
Consistently high cross-country ability of the KamAZ-43118 is ensured not only by the 6x6 wheel arrangement with installed cross-axle and cross-axle differentials, multi-layer rubber wheels, and an automatic tire inflation system, but also by a powerful diesel engine. As additional equipment, KamAZ-43118 trucks can be equipped with a winch, a PTO for driving special superstructure units, and a towbar.
Design
After the update, the model received a new bumper (more streamlined). The rear-view mirrors and radiator grille have changed, and side fairings have been integrated.
The headlights, direction indicators and side lights were combined into one unit, and the windshield was made solid (not divided into two parts).
Cabin
The equipment is equipped with a cabin with a high roof and a berth (in some modifications of the KamAZ-43118), it is located above the engine compartment. After the update, the level of comfort in the cabin was significantly increased. All modern models are equipped with a soft seat with air suspension and mechanical levers. As an addition, it is possible to integrate a heated seat system, install air conditioning, armrests, and electric windows.
But the level of noise insulation in the cabin is low; when using equipment, there is a constant hum inside. The platform is available in two versions - with or without an awning.
The platform and cab of the truck are located close to each other, which distinguishes it from most other KamAZ trucks. Thanks to this, the platform was made as long as possible.

Has gas-diesel power supply. Its main advantage is an increase in the economic efficiency of using this vehicle (fuel consumption per 100 km for the KamAZ-5490 is reduced). Diesel fuel replaces gas in a ratio of 60 to 40, which provides financial savings of up to 21% or up to 500,000 rubles. annually (with a mileage of 200,000 km).
If the gas supply is turned off, the vehicle's functionality is fully preserved when driving on diesel fuel. The parameters of the latter are no different from those of other diesel engines.
Additional equipment elements: rear axle load indicator, air conditioning, autonomous cabin heating system, engine heater before starting, tachograph, air suspension for the driver's car seat.
KamAZ device - 43118
The KamAZ 43118 is based on a durable chassis that allows for the installation of a wide range of attachments. In comparison with the more common versions KamAZ 43114 and KamAZ 43101, the model has a greater load capacity due to the reinforced suspension and frame. Many elements used in this car are domestic.
The truck is equipped with an all-wheel drive chassis. The differentials of all axles are symmetrical. Thanks to them, the car overcomes even severe off-road conditions. KamAZ 43118 uses leaf spring suspension. Unique pneumatic tires with automatic pressure regulation were created especially for this model. They can withstand increased load. Tire characteristics – 425/85 R21.
The KamAZ 43118 brake system includes several elements. The main braking system is pneumatic. The wheels are equipped with drums with a diameter of 400 mm. The parking brake is activated by moving the handle to the desired position. The car has a spare brake system, provided as insurance in case of breakdown of the main one. It is controlled similarly to the parking brake. Due to this, the driver can slow down on slippery roads by moving the handle approximately a third of the way up. With further ascent, the remaining brakes of the road train are activated. The auxiliary braking system is activated by a special button. It allows you to effectively overcome long descents as part of a road train. The auxiliary system is designed to operate without changing gears (in one gear in effect at the time of its operation). This mechanism reduces the risk of brake overheating.
KamAZ 43118 is equipped with 2 types of transmissions: a 10-speed gearbox of our own production or a 9-speed ZF gearbox. Both gearboxes are manual. The main gear includes a shaft with bearings and a crankcase. In this case, the main gear gears work until they are completely worn out, so the main gear is not disassembled during operation. Transfer case 2-speed manual with lockable center differential and pneumatic control. The ZF transmission in the car design is considered the most reliable element and significantly improves the dynamic parameters. Compared to the domestic gearbox, it has a longer service life. However, during long-term operation, its drive makes errors in switching stages.
The KamAZ 43118 cabin does not have a high level of comfort. Until 2010, the equipment was equipped with the old type of cabin, developed back in the 1980s. The new modifications have a cabin with a small sleeping area, which is convenient for long-term transportation. The interior is equipped with a soft chair with mechanical adjustment and air suspension. Only the driver receives such amenities; everything in the passenger seat is much more modest. Modern cladding materials and a revised duct system improve noise and heat insulation. Optionally available are heated seats, air conditioning, an armrest, a standard CD radio and power windows. The car can also be equipped with an anti-theft system, which can be unlocked with a special key.
KamAZ-43118 are available in 2 modifications:
- with multi-purpose frame;
- with metal folding sides.
The rotation bus is a welded rectangular structure with kung-type side bevels, installed on a base 43118-3999-46. The front and rear of the vehicle have single-leaf doors with a retractable steel ladder. There are passenger seats inside the cabin. The metal frame has double glazed windows on all sides.
A fuel tanker, or fuel tanker for petroleum products, is a large-volume refueling tank on platform 3078-46, connected to the subframe with tie straps.
The one-piece tilt cab is located above the engine and contains 2 doors and 3 seats.
ATZ is equipped with an air exhaust mechanism, a ladder with wide steps and a working platform with railings for maintenance. A filler neck is designed on top of the shell.
KamAZ-43118-42 are vehicles with an extended frame, used as an acid pumping unit for transporting and injecting aggressive liquid media into formations.
KamAZ-43118-15 are equipped with AKN-10 tank trucks for collecting gas condensate and non-aggressive process liquids.
Fire trucks ATs-8-0-40, ATs-6-0-40 and ATs-7.0-70 with special equipment and foam concentrate are also mounted on the all-terrain vehicle frame. The pump is driven by a standard power take-off.
Vans and mobile repair shops are built on chassis 3027-46. The body consists of a cargo compartment, which is secured using brackets and stepladders. The walls and roof are made of 5-layer sandwich panels covered with clad metal.
A truck tractor with crane-manipulator units (crane-manipulator units) with a 6 by 6 wheel arrangement and a tire pressure monitoring system is used both on roads with low-quality surfaces and on roads without them at all. The length of the side base reaches 5.5 m. The model is equipped with a saddle-type coupling mechanism, which makes it possible to change semi-trailers during operation.
The log truck on the KamAZ-43118 chassis is a tractor vehicle for transporting logs 4-6 m long. The platform includes 4 pairs of welded bunks located on the sides of the vehicle, a front shield and a corrugated base. It is operated with a manipulator for loading and unloading operations.
The onboard KamAZ-43118-24 , whose technical characteristics indicate high maneuverability and maneuverability in difficult areas, is an updated model of a large-tonnage tractor. It is equipped with an all-metal cabin of improved design on a 4-point suspension. The salon is designed using the latest technologies and provides comfort and convenience.
The newest KamAZ models are called “Saiga” with performance characteristics so high that they are considered army tracks.
Truck tractors
The advantages of the K5 generation cabin are most clearly revealed at long range. If the first KAMAZ-5320 had an internal volume of 5 cubic meters, then even after modernizing the interior in 1995, it was not possible to increase it to any significant extent. Machines with an increased volume of internal space made it possible to reach a value of 6.5 m3. The introduction of the K4 cabin made it possible to add another cubic meter to the habitable living space. And only the appearance of the new generation K5 cabin with an overall width of 2500 mm solved the problem and made it possible to obtain an apartment with a volume of 9 m3, which is comparable to the interior of a full-size off-road station wagon.
We should also note the progress in fuel consumption. If for KAMAZ-5490 NEO it was 34 liters per 100 km, then for KAMAZ-54901 generation K5 diesel fuel consumption was reduced to 30 liters per “hundred”. The use of advanced materials made it possible to increase the guarantee from 200 to 400 thousand km.
Long-haul tractors will force a serious change in the plans of the big European “seven” for the further promotion of their equipment. And some manufacturers may have to reduce their offer to 1-2 models and leave the limited market of 3-axle truck tractors, where KAMAZ PJSC decided to strengthen its presence. The Chelny enterprise will defend its position not even in the fight against the Euro-Seven, but rather against Chinese expansion and its internal competitor in the form of IVECO-AMT.
The promising model KAMAZ-65659 (6x2) with a suspended rear axle has already debuted at Comtrans`2019 and complemented the main KAMAZ-54901 model range. Next came the KAMAZ-65956 6x4 for driving 80-ton trains. And only then the more familiar KAMAZ-65656 6x4 for work as part of 44-ton road trains. In fact, with their appearance, the K3 series, familiar to everyone through the TV series “Truck Drivers” with the KAMAZ-54115 model and its derivative modifications, will begin to be withdrawn from circulation.
The table lists the main gearbox models. It is worth noting that all but one model is offered with the XF TraXon automated gearbox. For the all-wheel drive version of KAMAZ-65954 (6x6) with 550-horsepower engines, a conventional manual gearbox is offered in addition, while KAMAZ-65956 (6x4) will for now be equipped only with Ecosplit “mechanics”.
Of all the variety, two new all-wheel drive models with a dual-pitch rear bogie tire should be noted. These are the 4-axle KAMAZ-65657 (8x8) and the 3-axle KAMAZ-65955 (6x6), for which the performance characteristics and final specifications have not yet been determined, but R&D is already underway. Their release may mean the discontinuation of commercial K3 series truck tractors. Both promising new products are addressed primarily to companies in the fuel and energy sector, the mining sector, including forestry, as well as transport operators working with general indivisible cargo or transporting heavy special equipment.
In addition, we can say that in the production structure of the K5 line, 35% already falls on our own production, and another 40% is assigned to Russian suppliers, of which there are already more than 100. The remaining 25% are foreign suppliers and as machine production grows, they will have to offer for K5 the best solutions.

Operation, maintenance and repair
Maintenance and repair operations are prescribed in the KamAZ-43118 operating manual. The instructions include passport data about the car, recommendations for shift, weekly and seasonal maintenance.
Maintenance includes such work as:

- code 11 indicates a malfunction of the gas pedal;
- 12, 13 — the atmospheric pressure sensor does not work;

KamAZ-740.55-300 is an uprated version of the base engine 740.30-260, which appeared at the initial stage of production of KamAZ-43118.
