Engines KamAZ-65117

KamAZ-65117 trucks over different years of production were equipped with several options of diesel engines. First, based on the classic KamAZ power units KamAZ 740.30-260 (Euro-2) and KamAZ-740.62-280 (Euro-3). These are eight-cylinder diesel V-shaped engines with turbocharging. Their rated power is, respectively, 260 and 280 hp, at 2200 crankshaft revolutions per minute. The working volume is 11.76 liters. Transmission

On specialized websites and forums you can find many conflicting reviews about KamAZ-65117 vehicles. Almost all of them boil down to the fact that, despite deep modernization and a large number of imported components and parts, starting with the engine and gearbox, KamAZ-65117 still “remains KamAZ”, and in terms of build quality and reliability it is significantly inferior to trucks from European manufacturers. This is a machine that requires tireless attention and a professional attitude. Otherwise, with careless operation, problems are guaranteed.

Among the common problems of the KamAZ-65117, reports of which are often found in reviews of drivers and owners: the rear mounts for the lights disappear; there is no need to attach the exhaust pipe to the turbine; the expansion tank disappears; hot exhaust gases melt the generator; The heater radiator often begins to leak quickly; the metal leaves much to be desired - it begins to rust quite quickly, clearly “before its time.”

In general, problems with build quality and reliability of individual components and parts are compensated by the price of the car. After all, even the significantly more expensive KamAZ-65117 continues to cost significantly less than its European-made “classmates.” And this machine, with a good attitude towards it, copes with its work “one hundred percent”.

Features and operation

When designing KAMAZ 65117, the plant designers considered the issue of installing foreign-made cabins on the vehicle. Cabs from DAF 95, MAN TGA and even from the Finnish Suzu were offered as options. Ultimately, based on our own developments, our own cabin was created, in which “KAMAZ” lines are easily recognizable. In general, the developers managed to increase the service interval by 80% and the vehicle’s load capacity by 8%, while reducing fuel consumption by 10% compared to previous models.

To meet modern safety requirements, a roll bar was secured under the bumper. It prevents a passenger car from being hit by a car in a frontal collision and partially absorbs the impact energy. Particular attention is paid to the quality of materials and interior trim. Instead of rotary door locks, modern locking devices are installed, like on passenger cars.

For driver comfort, sprung seats with many adjustments from the German company Grammer or Turkish RIAT are used. Between the seats there is a small but quite comfortable table. The informative instrument panel has a display with anti-glare coating. The plastic parts used to decorate the cabin fit well together, and the noise level is kept to a minimum.

Compared to previous models of the Kama Automobile Plant, KAMAZ 65117 has better handling. This is achieved by installing a stabilizer bar, brake mechanisms with enlarged chambers, center and cross-axle differential locks and an ABS system.
