KamAZ 65225 is based on the brand’s traditional cabover layout (wheel formula - 6 by 6). The car is based on a reinforced frame structure with 3 axles (all wheels are driven). The engine is located in the front area of ​​the frame, and the cabin is mounted above it. At the front, a dependent suspension is used on semi-elliptical springs, at the rear - a balanced configuration. Due to the lack of airbags, the smoothness of the car is not the highest. On bumps, even when fully loaded, the equipment behaves quite harshly.

KamAZ 65225 is equipped with one of two transmissions:

  • 16-speed ZF manual transmission (basic version). The gearbox is highly reliable and of high quality (German MAN cars are equipped with similar manual transmissions). Control is carried out remotely - speeds are switched using a lever;
  • 6-speed Allison automatic transmission (optional). Not recommended for difficult operating conditions.

For a manual transmission, a diaphragm single-disc clutch with a pneumatic booster is used as a clutch; for an automatic transmission, a classic torque converter is used.

KamAZ 65225 is also equipped with a 2-speed transfer case of the ZF STEYR VG 2000/300 model, complemented by an inter-wheel lock and a lockable center differential.

The car uses a pneumatic brake system with drum mechanisms on the front and rear wheels. There are ABS sensors for each axle (one per wheel). The main advantage of the system is reliability. Military modifications are additionally equipped with a winch driven by a power take-off shaft.

The KamAZ 65225 cab is installed on pneumatic shock absorbers. Depending on the year of production, it has a different design (before and after 2010). The interior of the new versions is equipped with a pneumatic seat without an armrest and a modernized front panel. If in earlier versions the panel was metal and solid, now a significant area is turned towards the driver. The plastic finish has become more modern. For comfortable operation, there is an autonomous heater and ventilation system inside. In the back there is a sleeping place that provides the opportunity to relax. Externally, the KamAZ 65225 cabs of various modifications are very similar. The differences are manifested in the presence of a massive plastic bumper with new headlights and a slightly redesigned radiator grille. At the rear and side, the cabin retains the outlines of the design invented back in the mid-1980s.

Cabin

So far, most of the KamA3-65225 truck tractors operating in Russia are equipped with a classic old-style KamAZ cab. Even after the 2010 restyling, cars of this model with the same cabin continued to be produced for some time. It has long ceased to provide a level of driver comfort that corresponds to modern concepts. This cannot be expected from the cabin, which, despite modernization, was still developed back in the 70s of the last century. But it suits buyers with its price. The interior of the classic KamAZ cab has long become familiar to our drivers. Everything here is done quite well and at the same time inexpensive. But shaking when driving, poor noise and vibration immunity - nothing can be done about it.

But in recent years, all 100% of KamA3-65225 come with new cabs. In March 2016, construction began in Naberezhnye Chelny of a new plant for the full production of fourth-generation Mercedes-Benz Actros cabs. The production volume is up to 55 thousand cabins per year, the planned opening date of the plant is 2019. In the meantime, full assembly production of licensed Mercedes-Benz Axor cabs for KamAZ families is underway - with welding on stocks and on a new assembly line; with cataphoretic priming with complete immersion in the bath.

Driver comfort in the new cabin has been raised to unprecedented heights. The mere fact that the cab is on a four-point air suspension greatly improves working conditions. The interior trim materials are also more modern and of higher quality. In addition to the already quite comfortable driver's seat with air suspension, a licensed Grammer seat made in Elabuga is available as an additional option - both with air suspension and with electric heating.

Since the KamA3-65225 model is intended primarily for operation in regions with harsh climates, to adapt to such conditions, the truck cabs are equipped with good thermal insulation; a canvas outer insulation is suspended behind the engine compartment, preventing “drafts” under the cab. An additional heater is installed, connected to the cooling system. There is also an autonomous interior heater - a “hairdryer”, which is located behind the back of the passenger seat or under the front panel. This can be the domestic Planar-4DM with a power of 3 kW/1 kW, or the imported Webasto Air Top 2000.

KAMAZ assembled the first batch of 50-ton dump trucks of the K5 generation. What are they?

The Kama Automobile Plant begins to launch all new models of the K5 family: at the end of February, the first batch of KAMAZ-65951 dump trucks with an 8x4 wheel arrangement was assembled on the main conveyor and is now preparing to be sent to consumers.

According to the press service of the enterprise, based on the results of trial assemblies, specialists from the technological bureau for the assembly of advanced vehicles of the automobile plant, together with the Scientific and Technical Center, changed the fastening of the balancer suspension. Also, according to their recommendation, to ensure quality and a fixed tightening torque of the assembly, an electronic “Smart Tool” system will be installed on the conveyor.

Particular attention was paid to the manufacture and installation of a massive three-section bumper. Together with the participants in the project “Reengineering of Automotive Production and Creation of a Promising Family of Cars,” special containers for the supply of parts to the production plant, tables for sub-assembly, carts for storing and transporting pre-assembled bumper elements to the position were designed, manufactured and tested.

What is the newest KAMAZ-65951 dump truck? This is a representative of a heavy family of four-axle trucks with a gross weight of 50 tons, designed for work at large infrastructure facilities, in mining and sand quarries. In the production range of the Kama Automobile Plant, it will replace the well-known KAMAZ-65801 model (it is planned that production of the K4 generation will cease until the end of 2023).

KAMAZ-65951 uses a reinforced frame and reinforced drive axles designed for a load of 16 tons. The frame is made of lightweight high-strength steel, which reduces the curb weight (17,850 kg) and increases the load capacity (32,500 kg). The side members with a profile height of 300 mm and a thickness of 8 mm are made of high-strength steel S600MC EN with reinforcements of 8 mm thickness to increase the safety margin of the dump truck.

The 20-cc dump platform is made of wear-resistant steel (bottom – Hardox 450, walls – S500MC).

KAMAZ-65951 is equipped with the latest in-line 6-cylinder engine KAMAZ-910.15-450 (Euro-5). Its power is 450 horsepower, maximum torque is 2300 Nm.

The dump truck is equipped with a new 12-speed ZF Traxon automated transmission, which has the following functions: speed limitation when maneuvering; hill start assistance (HSA Hill Star Assist); coasting (Eco Roll); rocking function; Creeping mode. An intarder can be installed (optional).

The new cabin fully complies with international standards for safety and comfort. Like all members of the K5 family, KAMAZ-65951 is equipped with a multifunctional steering wheel and a completely new instrument panel. All controls are within arm's reach. To start the engine, just press a button. All necessary information is displayed on the display.

The instrument panel integrates an on-board information system (BIS) with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display (one of the largest in the class). With the help of BIS, the driver will be able to quickly plan and plot a route to the goal while working; listen to FM radio or favorite music albums (via USB, microSD, AUX, Bluetooth); make phone calls without being distracted from the road (Hands free BT); control the passenger compartment and autonomous interior heater, monitor vehicle parameters. During rest, the driver will be able to play videos online and offline, communicate with colleagues and loved ones via Internet messengers.

The anatomical driver's seat is equipped with air suspension, heating, an armrest and has a wide range of adjustments, which allows you to customize it taking into account the individual characteristics of the driver.

Another undoubted advantage of the KAMAZ-65951 dump truck is its service life increased to 1 million km.

The start of mass production of the new model is scheduled for June. By the end of this year, it is planned to assemble 185 KAMAZ-65951 units, and in total there will be more than 300 K5 generation dump trucks.

It is worth noting that the Minsk Automobile Plant, one of the main competitors of KAMAZ, back in 2022 developed a four-axle dump truck of a similar class MAZ-6516Y9 with a 25-cubic-meter platform, which had an even greater load capacity (33 tons with a U-shaped platform and 34.3 tons with U-shaped). However, only two of these cars were produced with a 460-horsepower Cummins ISG12 engine.

Nevertheless, the Belarusians continued to work in this direction and created a new line of heavy trucks, which will also include four-axle models with a gross weight of 50 tons (including modifications of a coal carrier and an option for transporting rock). They received new reinforced frames, as well as steered axles, drive axles and suspensions designed for increased load capacity. The first in this series of “super heavyweights” was the MAZ-65262L dump truck with a 460-horsepower Wechai WP12.460E50 engine and an Allison automatic transmission. True, this is an all-wheel drive model with an 8x8 wheel arrangement. Therefore, the technically permissible load capacity is slightly less - 31,200 kg.

By the way, MAZ recently received OTTS for both the dump truck and the 65262L chassis - this means that the model is ready for mass production. At the same time, a variant with a technically permissible maximum weight of 54,000 kg (11,000 kg on the front steered axles; 17,000 kg on the bogie axle) is also certified. Moreover, the new “super heavyweights” can be equipped not only with Allison transmissions, but also with Fast-MAZ automatic transmissions of the FC6A140 models; FC6A180; FC6A210; FC6A250.

The domestic KamAZ-65226 tractor deserves special consideration, as it is worthy competition to foreign manufacturers.

The KamAZ-65226 truck frame is equipped with a standard three-seater cab with a berth. The tractor cab is standard, as on many models of the Naberezhnye Chelny automobile plant.

The tractor is equipped with 320 R508 tires, the engine is a Deutz BF8M 1015C with a power of 550 hp, meeting Euro 2 environmental requirements. The engine is equipped with a ZF 16S 251 16-speed manual gearbox.

KamAZ-65226 is designed to transport heavy loads with a total weight of a road train of up to 100 tons. Naturally, it will not be possible to move such weight at the speed of a passenger car. Therefore, at low speed (the maximum speed of the road train, according to the manufacturer, is 60 km/h), the engine will get very hot or even overheat. To cool the engine, a frame of pipes was installed behind the cabin. One set of radiator and intercooler was attached to this frame on both sides of the car, each of them equipped with two forced-action fans. The exhaust system pipes were also attached to the same frame. A spare wheel with a hydraulic drive is also installed in the frame contour. If you look from the outside, this design, coupled with the tall cabin, gives the tractor a very massive appearance.

In road tests, KamAZ-65226 behaves excellently. When loaded, it climbs 30% in both directions, while the parking brake perfectly holds the heavy truck downhill. When going uphill, the tractor engine runs smoothly, without any failures.

The most frequently used gears on the KamAZ-65226 can be considered 5th and 8th - on the lower row and 4th and 7th - on the upper row. In these gears, a loaded tractor behaves more adequately on the road. In 8th gear of the top row, it will be difficult for the tractor to drag the full weight on an asphalt road with constant ups and downs. The driver will have to constantly change gears.

The KamAZ-65226 tractor with a loaded semi-trailer also performs well on a dirt road. If only the soil would allow it to carry a total weight of about 100 tons. Unfortunately, the soil is soil: in some places it is well rolled and compacted, in others it is soft. The driver's skill should already be evident here.

In general, the KamAZ-65226 tractor leaves a good impression of its operation, so it deserves attention from Russian transport companies.

Engines

For almost a quarter of a century of mass production of the model, engineers at the Kama Automobile Plant have adapted various engines to these KamAZ vehicles. In particular, previously KamA3-65225 was mass produced with the KamA3-74O.63-4OO diesel engine (Euro-Z). This is an eight-cylinder V-shaped diesel engine with turbocharging and intercooling of charge air. Its working volume is 11.76 liters, power - 294 kW (4OO hp). Modifications KamAZ-74O.5O-36O were also used; KamAZ-74O.37-4OO.

A small number of KamA3-65225 vehicles were produced with Chinese-made Cummins diesel engines. This is an 8.9-liter engine from the Cummins ISLe series, with an electronically controlled Common Rail fuel system. These diesel engines have eight power settings (from 29О to 4ОО hp). The “weakest” was used on 15-ton KamA3-65115 dump trucks. And on the KamA3-65225 they installed the most powerful - 4OO-strong version, with a torque of 17OO Nm.

Currently (end of 2022), the official product catalog of the Kama Automobile Plant states that production cars of the KamA3-65225 model are produced with KamA3-74O.735-4OO (Euro-5) engines. This is the same 11.76-liter V-shaped turbocharged diesel engine with intercooled charge air. Modernized, equipped with an electronic Common Rail fuel supply system and brought to Euro-5 eco-standards.

Its maximum net power is the same as that of its predecessors - 294 kW (4OO hp). The maximum useful torque is 1766 N.m (180 kgf.m), at a crankshaft speed of 1300 rpm. Cylinder diameter – 12О mm, piston stroke – 13О mm. Compression ratio – 18.

A recent issue of the authoritative magazine “Behind the Wheel” also contained information about the possible use of an even more in-depth modernization of the classic KamAZ engine on trucks of this model. This is the KamAZ-75O.1O engine, a long-stroke V8 diesel engine with a power of 360 hp or more. up to previously unattainable 5OO horsepower, its maximum torque is up to 24OO Nm.

Another possible engine option for KamAZ all-wheel drive vehicles in the foreseeable future is the Cummins ISG series. This is an in-line “six” with a working volume of 11.8 liters (35О–5ОО hp, 2300 Nm). This engine is already used on the KamA3‑658O. Another “engine of progress” is another diesel “six”, which is being created in collaboration with the Swiss one, the advanced KamA3-91O.1O engine (11.95 l, from 38O to 55O hp, up to 254O Nm of torque ).

Transmission

Since about 2008, the Kama3-65225, like other heavy trucks of the Kama Automobile Plant, has been equipped with Ecosplit family gearboxes, products (since 2005, the ZF-Kama joint assembly plant has been operating in Naberezhnye Chelny). These manual transmissions are used on many European-made trucks, even Mercedes-Benz, although they have their own full production of all transmission units.

The gearbox model used on the KamA3-65225 is “ZF 16S1820”. This is a sixteen-speed gearbox, with the following gear ratios: 1-13.8-12.92; 2-11.54-9.49; 3-7.93-6.53; 4-5.46-4.57; 5-3.82-3.02; 6-2.53-2.08; 7-1.74-1.43; 8-1.00-0.84; ZH-12.92-10.80. Main gear: gear ratio = 5.11 or 5.143 (depending on configuration).

The production volume of ZF gearboxes in Naberezhnye Chelny has been increasing all the time, and has now reached 50 thousand units per year. About 80% of KamA3 trucks are equipped with nine- or sixteen-speed gearboxes of this brand.

Manual transmission ZF 16S1820.

An automated 12-speed ZF AS Tronic gearbox and an Allison Transmission with a torque converter were also successfully tested on the KamA3-65225. These options further increase the off-road capability of a heavy vehicle. However, they have no prospects for this model: they are too expensive, increasing the price of the car by as much as 1-1.5 million rubles. But they are still offered as an additional option.

The transfer case is a classic KamAZ, mechanical, two-stage with a locking center differential and pneumatic control. A quieter transfer case from ZF/Steyr is available as an option.

For a long time, the Kama3-65225 used Hungarian-made drive axles (Madara, Raba and Dana). In recent years, thanks to the launch of a modern robotic gear processing complex in 2016, drive axles with hub planetary gearboxes of our own production have been produced in Naberezhnye Chelny. Purchases from Hungarian companies are kept to a minimum.

Clutch – with a hydraulic drive and a pneumatic booster, diaphragm type, single disc, model ZF Sachs MFZ-4З0.

Fifth wheel coupling. Wheels and tires

Fifth wheel coupling type KamA3-65225 – with two or three degrees of freedom (depending on the configuration), cast. The diameter of the coupling pin can be 50 mm (2″), or 90 (3.5″) - depending on the configuration. The total height of the fifth wheel coupling is 1.55 m or 1.59 m – again, depending on the configuration.

Kama3-65225 truck tractors are equipped with disc wheels with a rim size of 8.5-20. The tires used are pneumatic, tube, size 12.00 / R20 (320 R508). A reinforced spring suspension is mounted on all wheels of the tractor.

Brake system

There are drum brakes installed here, which are equipped with two internal shoes.

Brake technical parameters:

  • diameter of drum elements - 42 cm;
  • width of overlays - 18 cm;
  • type of brake chambers - diaphragm;
  • nominal pressure in the pneumatic drive is from 6.5 to 8 kgf/cm².

Also, an adsorbent air flow dryer is installed in the KamAZ brake system. This element is combined with a pressure regulator and serves as a cooling element. It releases condensate and maintains the required level of compressed air pressure supplied from the compressor.

During maintenance, you need to change the filter element as it becomes dirty. In order to reduce the pressure level, you should open the condensate drain valve on any of the receivers. Draining must be carried out every day after completion of work.

Electrical equipment

The electrical equipment design includes:

  • electricity supply;
  • starter;
  • electric torch device;
  • light alarm;
  • external and internal lighting;
  • control and measuring mechanism;
  • heating and ventilation system;
  • sound alarm;
  • wiper.

In the event of malfunctions in the operation of this system, it is necessary to check the serviceability of the safety elements. If they are not damaged, then you need to inspect the mechanism for short circuited wires. The circuit is checked in the direction from the safety element to the consumer. A short circuit occurs where the wires are connected by staples.

In the cold season, water must be added before starting the engine, this will help avoid freezing of the working fluid.

In summer, the electrolyte level must be checked before and after work.
