The modern KamAZ-5490 truck tractor is a trailed main-line vehicle with updated parameters. It became a serious competitor to similar machines from European manufacturers and contributed to bringing the plant to a new level.

The secret to its success lies in its improved cabin. It was created on the basis of drawings of an analogue from another car - the Mercedes-Benz Axor.
Purpose and benefits

Design elements

Since the tractor is a self-propelled trackless vehicle, it is driven by a special power unit from the engine compartment. Each structural part of KamAZ-5490 has its own purpose and features.
Frame and suspension
The Kamaz model 5490 has a technologically advanced and multifunctional frame . Its brackets and traverses are secured with high strength bolts.
The first cross section is installed to mount the underrun protection, the left side member at the front for the integral bracket. It combines several lifts, power steering and cab mounts. Based on a frame of this type, a long-wheelbase tractor with axles in the center is built.

Engine

Each modification of the KamAZ-5490 is equipped with an in-line six-cylinder diesel engine from Mercedes-Benz from the OM457LA series .
This is a reliable power unit with turbocharging and a system for intermediate air cooling. Its design is traditional. It has a volume of no more than 11.97 liters with a power of 295 kW (401 hp), a torque of 2,000 Nm and a rotation speed of 1,100 rpm.

Transmission and braking system
The creators of the KamAZ-5490 truck tractor have developed three types of gearboxes:
- ZF 16S 2220;
- ZF16S 2221, supplemented with intarder 014;
- ZF 12AS2130 is an innovative type with a 12-speed system.
The wheels of this machine are equipped with disc-type brake mechanics and complemented by an EBS (electro-pneumatic) drive in combination with an anti-slip component and ESP directional stability.
Cabin
The flagship from the KamAZ plant is equipped with an improved cabin, inherited from the 2001 Mercedes Aksor version. It is divided into two zones: for passengers and the driver, and is complemented by a 70 cm wide sleeping shelf, storage compartments and door niches. Modifications

For this model of truck tractor, two types of mechanical gearboxes are used: ten-speed KamAZ 154 and nine-speed ZF 9S1310.
