The equipment used on a combined road vehicle is divided into five main types:
- watering - irrigation of lawns, washing roadways and sidewalks;
- grader - territory planning;
- dumps - snow removal;
- brushes – road cleaning;
- spreaders of mixture or sand - measures to combat ice.

General structure of combined road machines KDM
MDK or combined road vehicle is a special or cargo vehicle with installed attachments. The attachments are designed to perform highly specialized tasks with maximum efficiency and productivity.
The attachments of KDM combined road machines are easy to replace, and re-equipment does not require special tools or highly qualified craftsmen. Replacement and reconnection usually takes 15-30 minutes. Thanks to this, based on a basic machine, you can get several specialized machines at once at minimal cost.
The characteristics of the combined road machine are divided into two categories:
- parameters of the base car (wheelbase, engine power, transmission);

Most KDM attachments are designed to perform road maintenance tasks. These include:

Depending on this, attachments for KDM combined road machines can be divided into the following categories:
- brush – the attachment is made in the form of one or two rotating brushes that sweep road dust and dirt into a waste container;
- washing – equipment is designed for wet cleaning of roads, it can be combined with brushes;
- watering - watering machines are equipped with a combination of nozzles, a hose for watering remote areas and a water tank;
- cleaning equipment consists of blades of various shapes (straight or at an angle), with the help of which the road surface is cleared while driving, and dirt and large debris are moved forward or to the right to the side of the road;
- for adding dry and liquid materials - sand, reagents, salt mixtures, etc.
Fundamentally, all MDKs (combined road vehicles) are divided into two groups:
- based on tractor equipment;
- based on trucks.
The most common in Russia is a combined road vehicle based on KamAZ. Firstly, the cost of the base vehicle is affordable compared to European and American trucks. Secondly, KamAZ trucks have high maintainability, which helps reduce the operating costs of the enterprise. Thanks to their versatility, KDM have long gained popularity among our public utilities, guaranteeing their work to keep the streets clean throughout the year.
Existing combined road vehicles can be divided into two large groups based on the type of base chassis. The first are KDMs, which are installed on domestic or imported chassis with a 6x4 or 6x6 wheel arrangement; the main purpose of such machines is to work on servicing wide streets and highways, where high maneuverability is not required, but speed and productivity are important. The second is a KDM on a 4x2 vehicle chassis, for working in dense urban areas, taking into account narrow courtyard passages and a small number of places for turning equipment.
It is also implied that combined road machines are divided according to the type of use of attachments. Thus, machines made according to the standard design use one type of attachment per chassis, for example, only a tanker truck or only a sand spreader hopper. To seasonally replace one type of attachment with another, you will need a crane. A KDM with a dump body involves installing the same sand spreader or water tank directly into the body with fastening with special brackets, being a rather profitable option: after all, in the absence of work for the KDM, by removing the attachments, the machine can be used as a regular dump truck.
Equipment with a “multi-lift” system has the best characteristics in terms of time to replace one type of attachment with another; the machine can be re-equipped literally in a matter of minutes - the loading mechanism, using cables and a winch, simply tightens the required superstructure onto the frame.
OJSC Ryazhsky Automobile Repair Plant offers Russian customers combined road vehicles of three different types. So mod. MK-4432-08 is a standard design KDM, manufactured on the KAMAZ-65115 chassis and intended for year-round maintenance of paved roads. The watering and washing equipment used on this machine consists of several stacked polyethylene containers made of corrosion-resistant material. The liquid reagent distributor consists of three separate groups of ramps with nozzles placed in parallel. Each such group includes one central ramp and one corner ramp on the left and right. Their nozzles have different nozzle diameters, due to which the distribution density of the reagents can be adjusted.
The product line also includes a KDM made on a dump body - MK-3435-10. Depending on the need, the machine can operate like a regular dump truck, and for road maintenance, attachments can be installed directly into the body, especially since the dump truck body has a flat floor and can be equipped with watering, washing or sand-spreading equipment.

JSC "Arzamas Municipal Engineering Plant" currently produces 13 models of KDM. New mod. KO-829N with sand-spreading, plow-brush and watering-washing equipment is designed to keep city roads with concrete and asphalt surfaces clean. Mounted on the GAZon Next chassis, this KDM can be used in winter to clear roads of snow and then treat them with de-icing materials, and in summer - for cleaning and washing streets. The body of the new product is of increased rigidity, with a “European” cross-sectional shape and geometry that prevents the sand-salt mixture from hanging on its walls. The sand spreader disc is made of polyurethane; the width of the spreading zone can be adjusted from 2 to 9 m using simple mechanical switches. The operation of the rest of the attachments can be controlled using remote controls in the cab, and parameters, for example, the distribution of reagents, do not change depending on the speed of the vehicle. Such a small car is a very interesting option for small cities or towns.
JSC "Mtsensk Municipal Engineering Plant" produces 10 models of KDM, the installation of which is possible on the chassis of MAZ, KAMAZ, Ford, Hyundai, Iveco, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes-Benz. Recently added to the KDM model range with the KO-848 index, it is a multifunctional vehicle based on the KAMAZ-65115-1961-62 chassis with a self-produced dump body made of high-strength alloy steel. Up to 20 types of various attachments are designed to work with the machine; the reagent distributor for the winter period consists of a hopper with a capacity of 7 m3, equipped with a chain-belt conveyor and a spreading mechanism. The conveyor traction chains are located outside the hopper and do not come into contact with the reagents. For greater durability and uniform distribution of bulk materials, the spreading disc, its casing and trays are made of stainless steel. The spreading mechanism is raised to the top position using a hydraulic cylinder.
Highly reliable Binotto hydraulics are used in the production of KDM. The density and width of the reagent spread are regulated by changing the speed of the conveyor and the rotation of the spreading disk, the opening value of the damper and the height of the spreading disk. The snow plow with lift and swivel function is attached to a universal mounting plate. produces KDM brand KDM-7881 based on Russian and imported chassis with a wide range of attachments. The hopper and sand spreader with a reinforced structure are made of 4 mm thick stainless steel. The distribution equipment is designed for installation on chassis and dump trucks with a carrying capacity of 13,000 to 20,000 kg and is optimally suited for the use of bulk materials such as salt or a mixture of salt and sand. The gearbox provides the necessary power and speed of movement of the conveyor, and the electric drive of the mechanism for changing the symmetry of the dressing allows the operator to change the direction of distribution of the deicing mixture during movement.
A chain scraper conveyor is installed inside the body, which pours the mixture onto a spreader disc with a diameter of 508 mm, made of stainless steel. The distribution width is adjustable from 1.2 to 12 m. Liquid tanks are installed at the rear of the machine to wet the mixture poured onto the road surface. Types and features of combined road vehicles based on KamAZ
KDM based on KamAZ are most widespread. They are distinguished by the optimal balance of cost, convenience and functionality. Among the vehicles in the Kama Automobile Plant model range you can find trucks with different wheel configurations. MDKs based on KamAZ 4x2 are optimally suited for work on one- and two-lane roads. KDMs with a 6x4 wheel arrangement will perfectly cope with road work on broadband highways.

KO-806, 823/823.1 on KamAZ 43253 chassis (4x2)
These MDKs are universal combined road machines that are designed to perform a wide range of work. They are installed simultaneously with a tank and a container for powdering reagents. KDM are equipped with a brush, blade and watering attachment.
MKDS-4005, SAAZ MDK-53215, 53229, DMK-80 on KamAZ 53215 chassis (6x4)
The MKDS-4005 combined road vehicle does not include a bunker for bulk reagents, but is instead equipped with two tanks. The MKD is equipped with washing equipment, brushes and a blade with a processing width of about 2.5 m, the width of the spreading strip can reach 8 meters.
SAAZ vehicles have both a bunker and a tank. Their watering and cleaning area is 2.5-2.8 m, and the width of the spreading strip is 10 m.
KO-829D, KO-829B, DMK-50, DMK-80 on KamAZ 53605 chassis (4x2)
Combined road vehicles based on KamAZ 53605 are practical and functional; they can be used to perform almost any operation to maintain city roads. All configurations are equipped with harvesting brushes 2.5 m wide. The width of the DMK blade varies between 2.6-3.5 m. The width of the topping strip for the attachments is almost the same and is 4-8 m for DMK and 4-9 m for KO.
KO-829D, KO-829B, MD-532/02/03 on KamAZ 65115 chassis (6x4)
Combined road vehicles on KamAZ 65115 are most often used for maintaining and servicing roads in large cities due to their 6x4 wheel arrangement. MDCs of this category are produced in different configurations - with a tank, with a bunker for bulk reagents and sand, with a tank and a bunker at the same time.
The most popular configuration of combined road vehicles based on KamAZ includes the following equipment:
- water tank;
- bunker for dry reagents, sand and crushed stone;
- sand/salt spreader;
- watering nozzle;
- watering hose;
- front, grader or side blade;
- front, disk or center brush;
- installation for cleaning storm drains.
