Homemade trailers for tipper-type passenger cars

  • Cost – 36,900 rubles.

    And they have also proven themselves:

    1. Eurotrailer LLC model 711914-ATHOS, tilting backwards with a load capacity of 2 tons. Equipped with an electric jack and a 1.5 m awning. Involves the installation of a mesh superstructure.
    2. LLC "Trailer" model 829450 with a carrying capacity of 0.48 tons, body dimensions - 3x1.5 m. Equipped with a low or high awning and a hydraulic jack.

  • Plant of passenger car trailers "Vector" model LAV 81012A - a platform with a folding ramp and spring suspension. Load capacity – 0.6 t.
  • LLC Trading House "SaranskSpetsTekhnika" model SST-7132-6K - single-axle trailer with expanded functionality, load capacity -0.54 tons.
  • Comparison with conventional flatbed trailers

    Why is a dump trailer for a passenger car more profitable:

    • A dump truck trailer for a passenger car is suitable for transporting bulk substances: sand, gravel or soil, since its design allows you to instantly unload large volumes. Dump trailers for passenger cars are excellent where it is necessary to transport crops: grain, root crops; boards, earth, hay.
    • Such trailers appeal to owners of self-propelled vehicles, since the tilting body box with a hinged tailgate ensures easy loading and unloading of motor vehicles.
    • In flatbed trailers, the frame and body are one-piece, so the entire trailer tips over backwards. Inconvenience comes with danger, so unloading bulk materials from flatbed trailers is not recommended. The essence of the dump unit is a movable connection between the frame and the body.

    How to choose a dump trailer

    Before purchasing a trailer for a dump truck, take into account the conditions of use: city, highway, off-road, since car trailers are equipped with different suspensions designed for different conditions of use:

    • The torsion bar takes turns with ease and is not whimsical.
    • The leaf spring is good on the highway and off-road. Durable and easy to repair, but expensive to maintain.

    Main criteria for choosing a trailer:

    1. Pay attention to the maximum tonnage and braking system. Units with low load capacity are not equipped with brakes.

      Single axle dump trailer

    2. View all trailer specifications.
    3. Find out if it is possible to retrofit the trailer. For example, an awning. It is needed for frequent transportation in any weather conditions.

    A trailer for a passenger car, a dump truck, can be:

    • Buy. Many factories produce trailers with a lifting mechanism. Such units are created in accordance with GOST, so state registration will not be difficult.
    • Build from scratch.
    • Convert a flatbed trailer.
    • Making it yourself: a dump trailer for a passenger car with your own hands is not difficult, but if you don’t have the skills, it’s better not to assemble it. If a dump trailer for a passenger car is made according to the requirements with your own hands, it will not be inferior to its analogue from the factory.

    Pay attention to the following aspects:

    1. Components (imported ones last longer).
    2. Perform test loading and unloading to check the convenience and reliability of opening and closing the locking mechanisms.
    3. Take it for a test drive if possible.
    4. If you have car wheels with tires lying around in the garage, like the model you are buying, check out the possibility of purchasing a unit without wheels.
    5. Watch videos, options for modifications to on-board models, and study products from popular manufacturers.

    Pros and cons of a dump trailer

    Advantages of tipper passenger car trailers:

    • Simplified loading and unloading.
    • Minimal physical effort required by a person during unloading.
    • Body lifting speed control.
    • Ability to work with different loads.
    • The mechanism can also be installed manually.
    • The trailer structure is not damaged.

    Video about the Kurgan dump trailer Krepysh

    As for the cons. There are almost none:

    • Hydraulics consists of hydraulic cylinders and a hydraulic pump. It’s difficult to create it yourself, but a purchased sample will be affordable.
    • There are also a lot of problems and troubles with hydraulics and pneumatics.

    If you plan to frequently transport various cargo and equipment, but there is no desire to modernize, purchasing a trailer with a tipper mechanism is an excellent option. This choice will protect you from alterations and the creation of unnecessary problems. It will allow you to use one trailer to transport the necessary cargo and equipment.

    Dump truck function on MZSA trailers

    You can see an example of the correct implementation of the dump truck function in the photo and video below. These are MZSA brand trailers. After 9 years of working with MZSA trailers, we can confidently say that the dump truck function on MZSA trailers is very well implemented. The location of the hinge joint is correctly calculated, the drawbar is very strong, strong fingers, reliable 3 (three) fasteners for attaching the drawbar to the front edge of the platform. Of course, I would like the clasps to be a little more comfortable. For those for whom they are absolutely not suitable, we install others from ALKO Kober.

    Light dump trailer: options, how to make, personal experience

    Hi all! Friends, I understand that it is not so rare that trailers are purchased for transporting jet skis, ATVs or the same motorcycles. Although the majority of trailer owners still use them to transport goods. Someone needs to harvest a crop from their dacha, bring building materials, or resolve some agricultural issues.

    What am I talking about? Snowmobile trailers are good for everyone, no doubt about it. But initially this type of equipment (trailer) was focused on cargo transportation, expanding the capabilities of the car and replacing the once horse-drawn cart. So we simply have to discuss the light dump trailer. Otherwise they won't understand us.

    Features and Benefits

    When transporting bulk cargo on a trailer, there are no special problems with loading them. But unloading is accompanied by the need to climb into the body and start scooping everything out manually, with shovels or other devices.

    In such situations, the tipping mechanism becomes a real salvation. With its help, unloading is much easier and faster.

    The following advantages of such systems can be cited:

    • simplify the loading and unloading process;
    • minimize human physical effort;
    • the speed of unloading bulk cargo can be controlled;
    • suitable for working with all kinds of loads;
    • an indispensable device in agriculture and in the country;
    • the mechanism can be installed with your own hands;
    • does not interfere with the design of the trailer.

    The essence of such a trailer is that its body has a movable connection to the frame. In conventional trailers, they are solid, which is why you can at most tip the entire trailer, including the tongue and wheels, backwards. This is inconvenient and potentially dangerous. Therefore, it is strongly not recommended to unload bulk cargo from ordinary flatbed trailers using this method.

    What are the functions of a dump truck?

    On trailers from different manufacturers, the dump truck function is performed differently. For different brands of trailers, it may differ in the shape and cross-section of the drawbar, the method of attaching the drawbar to the trailer frame, the shape and convenience of the fasteners, the swivel joint, and the tilt angle of the platform. Note that the location of the articulated connection between the drawbar and the platform is very important. If the hinge joint is incorrectly positioned, there may be: a) a large load on the fasteners securing the drawbar to the front edge of the platform; b) the impossibility of tilting the platform when loaded. In some cases, manufacturers install jacks to tilt the platform. On MZSA brand trailers, as on most European trailers, the platform can be easily tilted without platform jacks. This is possible due to the correct implementation of the dump truck function, the correct location of the articulated joint relative to the front edge of the trailer platform.

    Device options

    To get a trailer that has a lifting (tipping) mechanism at your disposal, you can go in 2 ways:

    • Do it yourself. This includes building from scratch and converting a finished flatbed trailer. Making your own homemade dump trailer is, in principle, not so difficult, since many people have enough experience and skills. I will give an example of how to make some variants of mechanisms yourself. Although, if you have no experience, it is better not to take on such work;
    • Buy a ready-made version from the factory. Many enterprises, including MZSA (the same MZSA 817710) and Saransk trailers (city of Saransk) produce products that have a tipping mechanism. This is the optimal solution for many, as you get 2 in 1. The trailer remains a standard flatbed, but additionally allows the use of a tipper function. The design meets all requirements and GOST, so there will be no problems with registration with the traffic police. The same cannot be said about homemade devices.

    If you are ready to use the drawings and assemble a dump trailer for a passenger car yourself, I have nothing against it. A homemade trailer, made according to all the canons and rules, can be on par with factory-made analogues.

    The only question is which mechanism you will use.

    In total, the following options are used for trailers:

    • hydraulic;
    • pneumatic;
    • mechanical (manual, without hydraulics).

    What should you choose? This is a good question, since each dump mechanism presented has its own nuances.

    The main thing here is that the body has a movable connection with the frame. If usually they are firmly connected to each other, then a hinge connection is used here. Its mating parts are welded to the frame and screwed to the side members. A fastener is made at the front according to the principle of a conventional latch. This helps prevent the trailer from tipping over while the trailer is moving behind the car.

    Before unloading, the latch is moved aside, freeing the connection between the body and the frame. It receives free movement, allowing you to unload bulk material, for example.

    Factory trailers have their own design features. But the principle always comes down to ensuring that only the body (loading platform) tips over, without affecting the drawbar and wheels. It can be used as a basis for either a single-axle or a two-axle trailer.

    But lifting mechanisms are different. Let's consider them separately.

    Hydraulic

    If you have a regular passenger trailer, then I don’t see much need for hydraulics. It's up to you though.

    Hydraulic systems are widely used on trucks and tractors. The essence of such a device is that the drive is connected by a coupling and an oil line to the drive from the car itself.

    The advantage of hydraulics is that it allows you to tip the trailer body in different directions and at a fairly high speed without the use of physical effort.

    The main problem is the complexity of such a mechanism.

    There is a good alternative though. For this purpose, a pair of hydraulic cylinders installed on the side members, as well as a hydraulic pump, are used. It’s not particularly easy to do it yourself, and buying a ready-made version is quite expensive. But if you have the money and don’t mind spending it, take it. You will not regret.

    Pneumatic

    Another version of the lifting mechanism is based on pneumatics. Not a bad solution for a homemade device. Although there are some peculiarities here too.

    The pneumatic drive is powered by the machine's exhaust system. Car cameras are installed under the bottom of the car, enclosed in a case made of durable material. Usually a tarpaulin is used. The cover is fixed to the bottom of the body and frame using fasteners. You can take screws and make rings from a strong steel angle.

    The chambers are connected with pipes, nuts, gaskets and washers, and a fitting is installed in the shape of the letter L. A durable rubber hose is pulled over it.

    The essence of such a homemade mechanism is that you put the second end of this hose on the exhaust pipe and press on the gas. The chambers are filled with vehicle exhaust gas, causing them to inflate and the body to rise.

    If you need to lower the trailer body, remove the hose from the exhaust and that’s it, the chambers begin to gradually deflate.

    Mechanical

    I agree that there are quite a lot of hassles and problems with pneumatics and hydraulics. In practice, most trailer owners make do with a conventional mechanical tipper.

    Here it is also necessary that the frame and axle of the passenger trailer have a movable connection with each other. This will make the body partially independent and movable. There will be a manual mechanism in front, with the help of which the body tips over backwards.

    Although you can do without such a mechanism. It is enough to weld a support in the front part. The body will then tip over due to its own weight when you remove the locking device. But this is only relevant when using a single-axle trailer. Biaxial due to 4 wheels, they firmly and confidently maintain balance, regardless of the connection to the car’s towbar.

    The advantage is that the price of such modification is the lowest. And among factory trailers, models with a mechanical dumping device are the most affordable. And an excellent solution would be to use a winch. Convenient, simple, and physically easier.

    It's up to you to decide what to choose. You can watch different videos, look at the results of modifications to conventional flatbed trailers, or study the range of well-established manufacturers.

    For safety, reliability and ease of use, I would advise you to purchase a factory dump trailer. Their range is impressive, and their pricing policy is at a pleasant level. And there will be no difficulties with registration.

    Trailer operating rules

    Current legislation provides for the possibility of using a trailer if you have a license with an open category “B”. In this case, the weight of the loaded platform should not exceed 750 kg. If the weight of the car and trailer exceeds 3500 kg, then it is necessary to open an additional category “E” by attending special courses for one and a half to two months.

    traffic police

    The presence of a trailer always involves additional stress on the car, namely on the engine and transmission, leading to premature wear. It is worth noting that a lot depends on the class of the car. If you attach a light trailer to a powerful SUV, then this will have virtually no effect on its condition. And if the Zhiguli is equipped with an impressive additional load, then it may not withstand such tests.

    It is necessary to understand that fuel consumption automatically increases by an average of 10 percent. This indicator is influenced by the condition of the roads and travel conditions.

    According to buyers, it is necessary to take care of summer and winter tires for the trailer, although this is not necessary in Russia, but it is desirable for safety. Russian-made products are produced on all-season tires.

    The structure must be registered with the traffic police at the owner’s place of residence within 5 days from the date of purchase. If you purchase a product through retail stores or during customs clearance, you receive a vehicle passport for it, which indicates the model and make, identification number, body and frame number, and weight.

    A signed purchase and sale agreement is considered the basis for recognizing the buyer’s ownership of the trailer. After registration, the new owner receives a license plate and registration certificate.

    Passing a technical inspection is mandatory. The frequency varies depending on the year the platform was released. The law requires you to insure your trailer by obtaining MTPL or CASCO insurance (optional).

    How to ride correctly

    It is worth keeping in mind that an additional load fitted at the rear will not make it possible to quickly accelerate the car and quickly stop it. This must be taken into account when overtaking and sudden braking. Risks must be completely eliminated. To do this, it is advisable to follow the recommendations of experts:

    1. Brake smoothly, regardless of how much the trailer is loaded;
    2. Keep your distance;
    3. Reduce speed in advance;
    4. Avoid jerking;
    5. Do not cause the trailer to skid or sway from side to side;
    6. Maintain maximum speed;
    7. Try not to change lanes in traffic often.

    Certain difficulties include:

    1. Maneuvering in large populated areas;
    2. Parking within the city;
    3. Reversing.

    Installing a tow bar

    If all the documents are in order and the weight is calculated, all that remains is to install a tow bar (or towing device, as engineers call it) on the car. On passenger cars, the towbar has a simple device: a bracket is attached to the body, and a hook with a ball is located on it. The trailer coupling head is then placed on this ball. On towbars of an archaic design, the hook is tightly welded to the bracket. The only advantage of such a system is its low cost, which determines its popularity in Russia. But if you have minimal consciousness, we recommend buying a towbar, on which the hook can be unscrewed or folded, tucked under the bumper.

    A protruding hook is dangerous in case of an accident. And if you think that only those who “come” at you from behind will have problems, then you are very mistaken. The towbar bracket is usually attached to the side members, the strength elements of the body. With a strong impact, they will, of course, bend. And believe me, “pulling out” the side members will be a much more serious problem than replacing the bumper, which is designed to take the impact and absorb it.

    In addition to actually screwing the towbar, you will need to connect an outlet to it to connect the trailer's electrical equipment. Usually this procedure does not cause many problems, since there is no need to pull the wiring through the entire car: it is connected to the rear harness, usually located in the trunk near the rear lights.

    The cost of installing a towbar along with electrical work ranges on average from 2,500 to 4,000 rubles. True, there are a couple of pitfalls. On many modern models, you cannot simply connect the trailer’s electrical system to the on-board network; you need to install a so-called matching unit, that is, an adapter. It is not cheap - from 4,500 to 9,000 rubles, another 1,500 - 3,000 rubles will have to be paid for installation. “Smart” electronics are not only found on luxury cars like the BMW X5 or Volvo XC90, but are also found on relatively simple cars like the Opel Astra HJ and

    The second point is the type of connector. If your trailer is American, then it will require a 13-pin connector, and if it is European, then a 7-pin connector. Fortunately, if you need to connect a European trailer to a car with American wiring, it is not necessary to change the equipment; you just need to buy an adapter.

    Finally, it can be noted that the towbar is not a part on which you can save. Therefore, choose towbars from quality manufacturers, such as VFM , Bosal , Westfalia , Brink or Auto-Hak .

    For now, Chinese products should be treated with caution.

    Download Rules

    It is imperative that the load be placed evenly. The center of gravity should be located above the axle (in single-axle models) or between the axles (in two-axle products). The transported load must not be allowed to move forward or backward. Moreover, the center of gravity should be as low as possible. This will prevent the possibility of lateral and longitudinal rocking, which will negatively affect the vehicle's handling.

    The transported cargo must not exceed the length of the rear body by more than 2 meters and the width by 2.55 meters. The maximum permissible height is 4 meters, measured from the roadway. Large cargo must be marked with special identification marks. At night or when visibility is poor, the side lights should be on.

    Restrictions

    Whatever brand the product is, transportation in it is strictly prohibited:

    • of people;
    • flammable substances;
    • explosive objects;
    • cargo that obscures the view with its dimensions;
    • objects that produce strong noise, polluting the road and the environment.

    Recommendations for use

    Since we are talking about dump trailers as vehicles for transporting bulk cargo (although you can transport whatever you need), pay attention to a few recommendations regarding proper operation.

    Compliance with them will allow you to avoid unnecessary fines and not create a danger on the road for other road users.

    • Bulk cargo is transported only on special trailers designed for such purposes. Another reason to buy rather than assemble it yourself;
    • An awning, plastic cover or other covering is placed on top of the body;
    • The absence of a protective awning does not allow transporting bulk cargo above the level of the edge of the side. Operation without an awning leads to the loss of cargo, its spilling onto the road and creating a danger for cars that pick you up;
    • Observe the speed limit when driving with a trailer;
    • Do not exceed the established trailer load capacity;
    • To transport bulk cargo, the trailer must be equipped with rigid sides. Preferably galvanized.

    All this is provided initially at the factory. When converting a conventional trailer, problems and difficulties sometimes arise.

    If you don’t want to modernize, but your plans include the need to transport different types of cargo, including bulk cargo, then it’s better to initially buy yourself a trailer equipped with a dumping mechanism.

    This choice will allow you to use one trailer for different purposes, rather than redo something and create unnecessary problems for yourself.

    Making a dump trailer for a car with your own hands

    Car trailers are most common among summer residents, residents of suburbs and rural areas. These are opportunities to transport much more cargo than the car can accommodate, taking into account the luggage compartment and space in the cabin.

    Trailers are used to transport a wide variety of cargo, including bulk cargo. For unloading, physical force, shovels and other tools are usually used, since it is not so easy to overturn a trailer. But to simplify this task, dumping systems have been developed, used not only on cargo trailers, but also on passenger trailers.

    You can purchase similar designs from the manufacturer or try to make them yourself. Each option has its own objective advantages.

    What are the design features

    Before making a dump trailer for a passenger car with your own hands, you need to find out some details about such trailer vehicles.

    Many people associate the tipper system with trucks. Although in practice this system has long been adapted to ordinary civilian passenger vehicles.

    The tipper unit simplifies the unloading of bulk cargo, facilitates simplified loading and unloading of motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, watercraft, etc.

    There are several features that characterize factory dump trailers:

    • most of them have a galvanized body (partially or completely);
    • internal fastening is provided to securely secure the load;
    • all sides have a folding design;
    • the length can be standard or extended;
    • provision is made for increasing the drawbar;
    • length varies from 3 to 4 meters generally;
    • the width ranges from 1.4 to 1.8 meters;
    • The height of the sides is about 30-40 cm.

    The design feature is that the body and frame have a movable connection, implemented using a hinge mechanism. This prevents the body from tipping over while driving, but the load can easily fall off if necessary. The couplings used are welded to the trailer frame and screwed directly to the side members. A special lock is used in the front part. This is usually the simplest latch.

    Features of dump truck trailer

    Trailers for passenger cars come in several types and with different load capacities. All of them perform their main function - transporting things and cargo. Among the vast number of such units there is a tipper trailer for a passenger car. The front part of its body rises, which makes it easier to unload bulk cargo or load and unload motorcycles and special equipment.

    Kurgan trailer Krepysh 8213 03

    This may seem strange to some, since dump trailers are more often associated with heavy-duty truck units. But the technology for creating dump trailers for passenger cars has been mastered by manufacturers for decades. These units have the following characteristics:

    • Partial or full galvanization.
    • Equipped with internal fasteners to securely secure the load.
    • All sides are folding.
    • To bring the body into a horizontal position, screw fences located at the front are unscrewed.
    • Extended or standard models with the ability to increase the drawbar up to 1.5 m.
    • The payload depends on the sample. More often it is from 300 to 500 kilograms.

    Dimensions:

    • Length – from 3 to 4 m.
    • Width – from 1.5 to 1.7 m.
    • Side height – from 0.3 to 0.4 m.

    Equipped with additional equipment:

    • Awning or frame.
    • Snowmobile ramps.
    • White fog lights or triangular reflectors.
    • Multifunctional. They are good for transporting solid or bulk materials for construction, equipment, furniture and other goods.
    • Suitable for transporting motorcycles.

    Kurgan trailer "Universal Plus 8213"

    Body and frame with a movable (hinge) joint that prevents the body from tipping over when moving. The joints are welded to the frame structure and screwed to the side members; a latch-type latch is installed at the front.

    Varieties

    Do-it-yourself dump trailers for passenger cars come in various designs, similar to factory models.

    They can be divided into 2 subcategories, depending on the number of axes:

    The lifting mechanism, which is used on dump trailers, deserves special attention.

    There are 3 options for lifting mechanisms:

    • Hydraulic. If these are simple passenger car trailers, there is practically no point in using a hydraulic system here. This is the prerogative of cargo models. The system is implemented by extending the parallel oil line of the machine to the trailer. For this purpose, special couplings are used. The advantage of such a system is that the load can be tipped in any direction, and the driver does not have to use physical force to do this.
    • Pneumatic. The unit is based on a pneumatic system. This is a rather interesting option for those who are interested in how to make a dump trailer with their own hands. Although there were some difficulties here. Pneumatics can be powered directly from the vehicle's exhaust system. For such purposes, cameras are mounted under the bottom of the car, enclosed in a durable case. The chambers are connected by appropriate pipes and clamps. Next, a fitting, a rubber hose, is used. One end is connected to the chambers, the other to the exhaust pipe. When the chambers are filled with air, they tip over. To lower the trailer, simply remove the hose from the pipe and the air will escape from the chambers.
    • Mechanical. When making a light dump trailer with your own hands, many people prefer this option. A manual mechanism is used here. Moreover, it is not needed on single-axle trailers, since there is support in the front part. Having removed it, purely due to the action of gravity, the single-axle trailer itself easily tips over. You just need to support him. On two-axle models, four wheels provide balance. Therefore, it is more important to install a mechanical tipping unit here. It is the most budget-friendly for self-production. But it also costs less from the factory than all other dumping systems.

    If you are interested in light duty dump trailers, there are several options for getting the tow vehicle you need.

    What to look for when purchasing

    Before purchasing a passenger dump trailer, you need to figure out what exactly you should pay attention to when choosing.

    Single-axle devices - ideal for transporting small loads

    Construction type

    First you need to decide on the type of product. The fact is that there are different types of such units. They may differ in the number of axes:

    • Uniaxial. Suitable for transporting small loads.
    • Biaxial. Such models are most often used for transporting building materials, tools or furniture.
    • Triaxial. These units are the strongest. They are even suitable for transporting walk-behind tractors, boats and other vehicles.

    They also differ from each other in the lifting mechanism used:

    • Hydraulic. This is the most common option, which is most often purchased for passenger cars. The main feature of such a trailer is that its body can rotate in all directions.
    • Pneumatic. Structures of this type are equipped with a special pneumatic drive. They are used extremely rarely due to the complexity of installation.
    • Mechanical. This is a fairly common option that is popular among motorists. The product is equipped with a manual mechanism. Therefore, in order to tip the body, you will have to remove the locking device by hand. Most often, such a lifting mechanism is used in single-axis devices.

    People who independently make dump trailers for themselves most often use drawings of single-axle mechanical units for this.

    Canvas awning - often used to protect transported items from precipitation and other external influences

    Equipment

    When choosing a new trailer, you must pay attention to its equipment. This product must be equipped with the following additional equipment:

    • Canvas awning. It will be needed to protect the transported cargo from snow, rain and other external influences. Some manufacturers add protective plastic caps or covers instead of an awning.
    • Additional tow bar. It is used for attaching trailers to the vehicle.
    • Side reinforcements. Useful when transporting too heavy cargo.

    The kit should also include additional fasteners used to secure the load.

    Dimensions

    When choosing a new dump trailer, you should pay attention to its dimensions. The point is that it should not be longer than the vehicle. Designs up to 4-5 meters long are ideal for passenger cars. At the same time, the drawbar should not be too short, as this will degrade the maneuverability of the machine significantly.

    It is also not recommended to use structures that are much wider than the car. The best option is considered to be models whose width does not exceed two and a half meters.

    It is also necessary to pay attention to the height of the trailer, since its capacity depends on it. It is not recommended to buy models with too high sides, as this reduces the stability of the product. It is better to purchase designs with removable and extendable sides.

    Recommendations for selection

    Before purchasing or assembling, you need to determine where and under what conditions the trailer will mainly be used. This is due to the fact that trailers have different suspension options. What is suitable for the city and the highway will not be the best choice for the countryside and off-road.

    The following points should be taken into account:

    • A torsion bar or rubber-harness suspension is perfect for frequent cornering. In terms of maintenance, it is unpretentious, but unsuitable for repair. If the torsion bar fails, a complete replacement is required. It feels better on a relatively flat road. The level of comfort is inferior to its competitor.
    • Spring. This suspension behaves equally well in highway and off-road conditions, and adequately displays its characteristics in the city. The design is durable and lighter compared to its torsion bar counterpart. Some springs may fail. But this will still allow you to continue moving. Suitable for repair. You can lighten or strengthen the structure by removing or adding several springs.

    It is also worth considering that a rubber-harness suspension will cost less when purchased. But the spring system objectively provides more advantages, and therefore costs more.

    There are several ways to obtain a light dump trailer:

    • Buy a ready-made model from the manufacturer. Many factories that specialize in trailers have an impressive list of dump truck models in their assortment. They are developed strictly in accordance with GOST standards, and therefore there will definitely be no problems with registration with the traffic police.
    • Collect from scrap materials. Full assembly is provided, starting literally from scratch. A difficult option for those who have never encountered anything like this. But from a financial point of view, you can save a lot. The problem lies in certification, testing and registration.
    • Convert a finished trailer. Any on-board model is taken as a basis, and appropriate design changes are made to it.

    In practice, assembling a dump trailer from scratch is not that difficult. But if you don’t have any experience or knowledge in this area, it’s better not to start.

    Adhering to all rules and standards, a self-assembled trailer will not be inferior to factory analogues and will allow you to easily perform the tasks assigned to the trailer.

    DIY assembly

    There are a huge number of examples, diagrams and drawings from which you can independently make a dump trailer.

    Let's focus on one of the options. Here you will have space for creativity, making your own modifications and improving the design.

    Regarding the basic design of the trailer, several basic recommendations can be given:

    • to make the frame of a future trailer, it is better to use high-quality steel with a square cross-section measuring 40x40 millimeters;
    • you don’t have to assemble the chassis, but simply take it from some suitable stroller from the car;
    • as a suspension, it is quite possible to use springs from motorcycles such as Ural or Java, and also find a set of hydraulic shock absorbers or purchase them;
    • You can connect the bridge and the frame using struts (they are actively used in construction, and not only).

    Below are some recommendations for production.

    • For a trailer, it is better to provide a factory hitch head. This is one of those elements that is not recommended to be assembled from scratch. It is better to buy from a trusted manufacturer or remove it from an old unnecessary trailer;
    • To assemble the body box, use steel angles measuring 30x30 mm. and sheets of plywood. In terms of thickness, 12 mm plywood sheets will be sufficient. Fastening is carried out with nuts and bolts. Better M6 type fasteners;
    • Longitudinal spars can be made of wood. A pair of such spars are mounted under the bottom of the future dump truck structure;
    • To connect the dump box and the trailer frame, use the purchased hinge mechanism. It needs to be welded to the traverses or to the side members. It all depends on which direction you want to ensure unloading and loading;
    • Attach the latch fastener in front. It will not allow the body to tip over while moving. Make sure the latch works securely.

    If you want to implement a pneumatic tipping system, then wheel chambers are fixed between the installed side members on the bottom of the trailer body. Typically, 3 chambers are used, enclosing them inside a case made of durable material. A high-quality, thick tarpaulin will do.

    Fixation is carried out with M5 type screws to rings based on a metal corner. They are located on the frame, underbody.

    Using threaded pipes, nuts, a set of gaskets and washers, the cameras are combined into a single system. A special L-shaped fitting is attached to the lower part of the chamber. A durable rubber hose is pulled over it.

    To overturn such a structure, it is enough to put the second end of the hose on the exhaust pipe and start the engine. On average, it takes about 3-4 minutes to lift the body. If you need to lower the body, the hose is disconnected and air is bleed from the chambers.

    Such a system is quite effective and not the most difficult to implement. But in practice it may not be useful to everyone. To solve everyday issues, organize work on the site, carry out small construction work at the dacha or in a private house, sometimes a conventional mechanical trailer lowering system is sufficient.

    Single-axle trailers can do just fine without a tipper unit, since they can tip over on their own. All you have to do is remove the support and let gravity do its job. But a prerequisite for comfortable dumping of cargo will be the presence of a folding or removable side.

    Introduction

    Naturally, every car is different, and there are quite roomy cars, but today we are talking about middle-class cars, which, alas, cannot boast of much spaciousness even for passengers, let alone the trunk. Moreover, there are an overwhelming number of such cars on the roads of Eastern Europe.

    No one has canceled the cargo taxi, which can accommodate a lot of things, but the prices for such transportation are not small, and if you need to transport cargo over a long distance, it can hit your pocket hard. But what to do if you need to transport cargo repeatedly, for example, to the country or for work?

    A homemade trailer is the best solution to the problem of lack of capacity. One thing is clear here, that such a vehicle will make each driver more independent, and will allow transporting a variety of cargo much faster and more profitably.

    Initially, everyone has a choice: buy a new trailer or make a light trailer with your own hands. As for the first option, everything is generally simple here. It saves effort and time on registration, but, alas, not money. But today we will try to understand how to make a trailer for a car yourself.

    To make a homemade trailer, you need some tools, as well as materials, which it is advisable to prepare in advance so as not to waste time later.

    Do you really need a trailer?

    But it's true. Before you spend your money on buying a trailer, consider whether it is really necessary. If we are talking about a couple of walks to the dacha with boards, then it is more profitable to hire a truck. Don’t forget that you not only need to buy a trailer, but also store it somewhere. And if you are going to leave it at your summer cottage for the winter, remember two things.

    Firstly , it can be stolen there.

    Secondly , when in the spring you need to take something in this trailer to the dacha, you will first have to pick it up from there and deliver it to the loading site. Therefore, before purchasing a trailer, it makes sense to sit down and rationally calculate all the costs and alternative ways to solve the problems.
