INTRODUCTION
GAZ-3309 and GAZ-33098 vehicles are designed for transporting goods on various roads in temperate climates at ambient temperatures from plus 40 to minus 45ºС.
Specialized vehicles (dump trucks, tank trucks, vans, etc.) are manufactured on the chassis of the GAZ-3309 and GAZ-33098 vehicles.
All comments and suggestions regarding their work should be sent to the manufacturers of these vehicles.
The GAZ-3309 car is equipped with a diesel engine of the Minsk Motor Plant MMZ D-245.7 E3 or MMZ D-245.7 E4, and the GAZ-33098 is equipped with a diesel engine of the Yaroslavl Motor Plant YaMZ-5344.
The parameters given in the Manual without permissible deviations are given for reference.
The design of the vehicle is constantly being improved, so some of the data and illustrations contained in this publication may differ slightly from your vehicle and cannot serve as a basis for making any claims.
Regular maintenance of your vehicle in accordance with this Manual and the service book1) will ensure its reliable operation.

GAZ-3309, GAZ-33098. PASSPORT DETAILS
The passport data of cars and car chassis supplied to other enterprises for the manufacture of special products includes the vehicle identification number (VIN), cab identification number, engine identification number and nameplate.
The vehicle identification number (VIN) on cars and car chassis is marked on the right frame side member in front of the front rear spring bracket (see Fig. 1.1).

An example of applying the VIN of a car and a car chassis:

X96 – international manufacturer identification code; 330900 – index of a car or car chassis;
D – model year code (D – 2013, E – 2014);
0840594 – serial number of the car or car chassis;
- – number limiter.
The cab identification number is marked on the lower flange of the right side of the cab.
An example of applying a cabin number:

330700 – cabin index;
D – model year code (D – 2013, E – 2014); 0045366 – cabin serial number.
A technological hole on the sidewall flange is used as a number limiter on the left side.
The identification number of the MMZ D-245.7 engine is stamped on the nameplate (Fig. 1.2), located on the cylinder block on the right side in the middle part.

The plate contains the following data: a – engine index;
b – engine serial number.
The plate also contains marks of compliance with certification requirements in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
The identification number of the YaMZ-5344 engine is stamped on the nameplate (Fig. 1.3), located on the cylinder block on the left side in the front.

The plate contains the following data:
a – trademark of the manufacturer;
b – mark of conformity with the national standard with the code of the certification body that issued the certificate;
с – sign of circulation on the market indicating compliance with the requirements of special technical regulations;
d – engine configuration index (175);
e – engine serial number (0000001);
f – year of engine production (D – 2013, E – 2014);
g – engine model (534400).
The nameplate (Fig. 1.4.) is located on the rear pillar of the right cab door opening.

YOUR ATTENTION
To operate the engine, diesel fuel is used in accordance with GOST R 523682005 of type I, II or III (for the MMZ D-245.7 E3 engine) or type II or III (for the MMZ D-245.7 E4 and YaMZ-5344 engines), which differ in sulfur content.
Depending on the ambient temperature, it is recommended to use fuel of the appropriate class or grade indicated in the table:

"Starting and stopping the engine."
After starting a cold engine, you should not immediately give the crankshaft a high rotation speed; cold oil slowly reaches the rubbing surfaces, and at high rotation speeds they can be damaged.
- The efficiency of engine operation and its wear are highly dependent on temperature conditions. It is necessary to maintain the coolant temperature within 80-100°C (for the MMZ D-245.7 engine) and 80-110°C (for the YaMZ-5344 engine). At an ambient temperature of 5°C and below, put an insulating cover on the tail grille.
- It is prohibited to crank the engine with the starter when the power supply system is not filled with fuel, in order to avoid failure of the fuel pump (lubricated with fuel).
To fill the system with fuel and release air from it, it is necessary to pump the fuel with a manual fuel pump installed on the coarse filter.
- Do not accelerate the engine while pushing the vehicle, towing it, or driving down a slope.
- To avoid failure of the gearbox when towing a car, it is necessary to disconnect the driveshaft flange from the main gear and securely fix the disconnected end of the driveshaft through a wooden spacer to the bracket for fastening the parking brake system drive cable equalizer lever.
- The car has a rear axle with a hypoid final drive, for which only special oil should be used (see subsection “Lubrication chart”).
- Before starting operation, as well as regularly during operation of the vehicle, it is necessary to check and adjust the air pressure in the tires to normal levels. Control parameters for air pressure in tires are given in subsection 4.9 “Basic data for adjustments and monitoring.”
Deviation of air pressure in tires from control parameters has a negative impact on driving safety.
- In order to avoid violation of the relative position of the steering mechanism and the steered wheels, it is prohibited to violate the adjustment of the length of the steering longitudinal rod.
- To avoid overheating of the power steering system, prolonged (more than 30 minutes) operation of the engine at high speed when the vehicle is parked is not allowed.
When moving the car out of a rut, you should not drive with the steering wheel turned to the extreme position for more than 15 seconds, as this may cause the power steering pump to fail due to overheating of the oil.
- It is prohibited to hold the steering wheel turned to the extreme position for more than 15 seconds while the engine is running, as this may damage the power steering pump. It is also prohibited to start the engine if there is no or insufficient oil level in the power steering reservoir.
- When the ambient temperature is below minus 35°C, it is necessary to fill the power steering system with a special working fluid (see subsection “Lubrication chart”).
- Monitor the tightness of air pipelines, cylinders and hydraulic and pneumatic brake drive units.
- The duration of continuous operation of the starter should not exceed 15 seconds at positive temperatures and 20 seconds at negative temperatures. The starter can be restarted only after a break of at least 30 seconds; the permissible number of restarts is no more than three. If the engine does not start, it is necessary to check the serviceability of the starter power circuit, the starter, the engine power system, the degree of contamination and the serviceability of the batteries.
It is forbidden to move the car using the starter and turn on the starter while the engine is running.
- After repair work involving the removal of the engine and cabin, it is necessary to reinstall the wires connecting the cabin and engine to the frame.
- If any of the red warning lights on the instrument panel come on while driving or the buzzer sounds, you must stop the car, identify and eliminate the malfunction.
- When replacing engine oil with oil of a different brand or company, it is necessary to flush the lubrication system with flushing oil.
Mixing (topping up) motor oils of different brands and companies is prohibited.
- After driving the vehicle with a full load, stop the engine only after it has been idling for at least three minutes to gradually reduce the temperature of the turbocharger in order to avoid its premature failure.
- The car is equipped with side protection. To remove the spare wheel and battery cover, you must remove the side protection on the right side.
- To avoid failure of some electrical equipment, it is not allowed to disconnect the batteries while the engine is running.
- The visible surface of the rear position lights, direction indicators and reflectors are hidden by the open rear side of the platform.
To warn other road users about the presence of your vehicle remaining on the roadway with the rear side of the platform open, it is necessary to install a warning triangle or other signaling devices in accordance with the requirements of traffic regulations.
- It is recommended to refuel your car only at gas stations. It is allowed to refuel a car outside of gas stations, and the car must be installed on a flat horizontal platform, without slopes.
Do not use fuel whose quality you doubt.
- Engage reverse gear only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
- It is forbidden to close the driver's and passenger's doors with the tip of the lock release rod down.
- If the radiator of the cooling system and charge air cooler are heavily contaminated, as well as when the efficiency of the cooling system and charge air cooler decreases, clean and rinse the radiator core with a jet of water under pressure using shampoo for contactless car washing.
- After driving the first 100 km, when replacing (removing and installing) the wheel and 100 km after that, as well as before a long trip, it is necessary to check the fastening of the wheel nuts and, if necessary, tighten the fastening with a torque of 45-50 kgf m.
- The use of other types and brands of fuel, oils, lubricants and liquids other than those specified in this Manual is prohibited.
- Mixing (topping up) motor oils, power steering system oils, coolant and brake fluids of different types and brands is prohibited.
- The car is intended for single use. Towing a trailer is strictly prohibited.
Model year is a period equal to the average calendar year during which cars with the same design features are produced.

Experts note that the technical characteristics of the GAZ 3307 have been changed several times. This concerned the power unit, the electrical part, which was constantly being strengthened. The electrical wiring diagram for the GAZ 3307, for example, was modernized twice.
