Sadko Next: test drive and review of an off-road truck

In June 2014, at one of the technical exhibitions at Crocus Expo, representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod plant showed a new Gas-Sadko Next truck with all-wheel drive and medium tonnage. It will replace the previously released GAZ-33081 Sadko, equipped with a carburetor engine.

The plans were to establish the production of a large number of cars, but difficulties in the economy made their own adjustments

Sadko NEXT: configurations and prices

The developers promise control like in a passenger car, a smooth ride and other amenities. All this is achieved thanks to:

  • improved steering system and clutch developed by ZF;
  • the presence of Tenneco shock absorbers;
  • Wabco brake system;
  • CSA Castellon steering assembly;
  • Takata seat belts;
  • Delphi system, which creates a favorable microclimate.

The car has a chassis that can withstand heavy loads, a well-appointed cabin and an improved suspension.

New model equipment

The new Sadko Next truck is equipped with:

  • cruise control;

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:

Flaws:

  • already obsolete appearance of the cabin;
  • uncomfortable large and thin steering wheel;
  • the use of cheap materials in interior decoration;
  • the inside is not as comfortable as similar European models;
  • the seats are still far from ideal;
  • low load capacity;
  • high cost of vehicles.

Cabin "GAZ Sadko Next"

There are two modifications of the new lawn, differing in cabins. This is a single-row design with three seats; in another case, Sadko Next 4x4 with a double two-row cabin was made. In the first case, the wheelbase is 3.77 m, and the total length of the car is 6.3 m. The second option provides for an increase in the wheelbase to 4.5 m, and the total length reaches 7.19 m.

Galvanized steel is part of the cab structure, which is equipped with wide loop-shaped steps on the sides and aerodynamic stamps on the hood. The doors have large areas of glass that provide a wide view for the driver.

Cabin interior equipment

You can enter the cabin through spacious openings; comfortable conditions have been created inside:

  • availability of free space;
  • excellent ergonomics;
  • plenty of places to store various little things;
  • three comfortable seats (in C41A23);
  • in the two-row cabin (C42F43) there are seven seats; in the back there is an optional convertible folding sofa that easily folds into 4 separate seats.

The interior is decorated with high-quality plastic. All controls are conveniently located

Springs are installed under the driver's seat; sitting in it is now even more comfortable thanks to lumbar support with six types of adjustment.

Transmission GAZ "Sadko Next"

The Sadko Next car is equipped with a non-alternative gearbox, a five-speed synchronized “mechanics”. The dry single-plate clutch with Sash/ZF allows it to function in conjunction with the gearbox engine using hydraulics. The original 5-speed gearbox from the GAZ-66 used on the truck has been quite modernized.

In the design of the case and design of the gearbox, the thickness of the gears has been increased. The efforts in gears, except for first and second, are reduced thanks to the synchronizer.

The gears are switched easily, without vibration, despite the fact that we are looking at a three-ton off-road vehicle.

Design features and new technological solutions

In Sadko Next 4x4, specialists have implemented a series of engineering innovations, which fundamentally distinguishes it from previous models. Here you can see:

  • strengthening the transfer case;
  • power take-off function;
  • strengthening frames and suspensions, improving their geometry;
  • in the frame itself there is reinforcement of the spar and the inset bracket at the rear;
  • cross members have been added at the end for mounting towing and a bumper;
  • treating the frame with an anti-corrosion agent and adapting it to various road conditions of Russian roads, increasing the load on it;
  • the presence of rubber-metal hinges in the suspension, in which the ends of the springs are embedded;
  • addition of hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers "Tenneco" with two-way action of increasing the stroke of the rod;
  • front and rear there are stable transverse stabilizers.

The tires' load-bearing capacity has been improved, the braking system has a pneumatic-hydraulic design, and anti-lock can be switched off.

The rear wheels of Sadko Next are galvanized with dual slopes, drum brakes are installed, and 18-inch steel wheels are equipped with all-terrain tires.

Buttons on the instrument panel help control the transfer case, allowing you to set the power.

The drive axles are equipped with cam differentials, the braking system is similar to that on the Valdai and is designed to operate a vehicle weighing up to eleven tons. It is very effective, does not require increased pressure on the pedals, is reliable, and responds even to minor depressurization.

GAZ "Sadko Next" in 2022, its cost, and what it will be in 2022

In 2022, a presentation of the updated version of LAWN NEXT with a load capacity of 5.9 tons took place. Technical characteristics of Sadko Next 2022 have been improved.

The appearance of the cabin remains the same as its predecessors; in all other respects, the models are different

The structure of the technical part has changed - it has been modified. For example, the LAWN dump truck has a folding body, the NEXT refrigerator added its own features in 2022, and the farm truck differs from the onboard one. The developers produced:

  • addition of new rear air suspension;
  • modification of the front suspension;
  • placement of ABS and ASR systems;
  • enlarged front wheels;
  • base extension.

The carrying capacity of Sadko NEXT increased from 2,250 kg to 3,350 kg, and that of GAZON NEXT from 4,485 kg to 5,900 kg.

The wheelbase is available in two versions - standard and extended. The new products are equipped with a 170-intensive YaMZ-534 engine, with a volume of 4.4 liters and running on diesel fuel or gas. Fuel consumption per 100 km is 13.6 liters, the gearbox is five-speed, modernized.

Sadko Next 2018-2019

September 2022 was marked by the Hanover exposition, where the 2022 Sadko Next car, which has all-wheel drive and right-hand drive, was presented; the products are scheduled to be sent to countries that drive on the left. It is planned to release cars with left-hand drive.

The powerful truck is equipped with significant ground clearance, front and rear axles with locking, and tires with an inflation system.

Under the hood is a YaMZ-534 turbodiesel with a volume of 4.4 liters, a power of 150 hp, and 490 Nm of torque in combination with a 5-speed gearbox. Production of such new products will begin in 2019. The price will be from 2 million or more.

The Vepr NEXT pickup SUV was also exhibited; its engine complies with Euro-5 and Euro-6 environmental standards.

Design

The GAZ-3308 all-terrain vehicle has a hood layout and is built on a frame chassis.

The vehicle is designed to transport goods or people on paved roads, as well as off-road.

The design of the car allows use at temperatures down to minus 45⁰С. Some cars are equipped with a pre-heater, the control panel of which is located under the hood on the side bolster.

Frame

The GAZ-3308 all-terrain vehicle uses a steel frame made from stamped elements. The parts are connected to each other with rivets. Extensions are installed on the front part of the side members. On the front of the side members there are towing devices, which are a U-shaped fork with a kingpin inserted into the holes. The rear cross member is equipped with an additional kingpin fork, adapted for mounting a trailer.

On the side parts of the all-terrain vehicle's side members, brackets are installed for fixing fuel tanks with a capacity of 105 liters. The tanks are located behind the cabin of the all-terrain vehicle. Normal fuel is A-80 gasoline. The plant allows the use of A-92 gasoline with an increase in ignition timing.

Engine

The GAZ-3308 all-terrain vehicle uses a ZMZ-5231 8-cylinder gasoline engine. The engine is based on the power unit from the GAZ-53/66. The difference is the cylinder diameter increased to 92 mm, which made it possible to increase the working volume to 4670 cm³.

Due to the volume, the torque has increased, which is 290 N*m. Maximum engine power is 113 hp, achieved at 3200 rpm. Early versions of the car were equipped with a 130-horsepower engine without a neutralizer.

To meet environmental requirements, the engine is equipped with a catalytic converter located in the muffler.

The converter is equipped with a lambda probe, which sends signals to the electronic control unit. The unit adjusts engine operation by adjusting the ignition timing.

Transmission and suspension

The GAZ-3308 all-terrain vehicle is equipped with a single-plate clutch. The driven disk has a damper in its design that reduces vibrations that occur when the crankshaft rotates.

The torque from the clutch is supplied to the input shaft of the 5-speed gearbox. The gearbox does not have an overdrive and is equipped with synchronizers in all gears except first and reverse. The traction range is expanded by installing a 2-speed gearbox with direct and low range. The gearbox distributes torque between the axles.

The front and rear axles of the all-terrain vehicle are of a unified design, equipped with a hypoid main pair and a cam differential mechanism. Steering knuckles equipped with constant velocity joints are mounted on the front axle.

Some GAZ-3308 are equipped with an additional power take-off gearbox mounted on the gearbox housing. The gearbox has one gear. The output shaft of the gearbox is connected by a cardan transmission to a winch mounted between the front extensions of the frame side members.

The axles of the GAZ-3308 all-terrain vehicle are installed on leaf springs, supplemented by double-acting hydraulic shock absorbers.

At the rear there are additional rubber buffer springs that work in compression.

Brake system

The all-terrain vehicle uses pneumatic-hydraulic brakes, supplemented by an anti-lock braking system. The brakes have two independent circuits, each of which serves its own axle. The GAZ-3308 uses a circuit duplication system. There are cars without an ABS system.

The ABS unit is equipped with three channels and a pneumatic booster. Each channel has a separate brake cylinder. The air supply is supplied from a single-cylinder compressor mounted on the engine. Four working receivers with a volume of 20 liters (3 pcs.) and 5 liters (1 pc.) are installed on the frame. Each wheel has a separate drum brake equipped with an automatic slack adjuster.

The auxiliary braking system is used to keep the GAZ-3308 parked. The working drum is located on the transmission of the all-terrain vehicle and is controlled by a cable drive from a lever in the cabin.

Steering and tires

The GAZ-3308 all-terrain vehicle is equipped with hydraulic power steering. The gearbox consists of a screw connected to the steering shaft and a ball nut. The steering column has no adjustment and is covered with a plastic casing on top. The steering wheel is two-spoke, plastic. The lighting, wipers and sound signal are controlled by a double steering column switch.

The GAZ-3308 all-terrain vehicle is equipped with pneumatic tires of size 12.00R18.

The standard delivery uses rubber model KI-115A with a radial cord arrangement. Steel wheels are equipped with split rings. The splint is secured using rings.

The tires are equipped with a pressure regulation system, which allows you to increase the cross-country ability of the GAZ-3308. The pressure is changed by rotating the regulator installed in the cabin.

Cabin

The GAZ-3308 car is equipped with an all-metal cabin with two hinged doors. The cabin interior has two separate seats for the driver and one passenger. The driver's seat can be adjusted according to the distance to the pedals, as well as the angle of the backrest. Additionally, the seat tilts back using a special adjustment bolt located on the front of the cushion frame.

The standard equipment in the cabin of the GAZ-3308 all-terrain vehicle includes inertial seat belts. A liquid heater connected to the engine cooling system is used to heat the cabin. The air is supplied by a fan. The air ducts are located on the windshield, at the feet, and also on the side windows of the doors. In the summer, air circulation is ensured by lowering the glass in the doors or turning the corner vents.

Behind the GAZ-3308 cab, a platform is installed on transverse and longitudinal bars. At the customer's request, the platform is made of metal or wood. The platform can be equipped with removable side grilles and arches for the awning.

Platform dimensions:

  • length – 3390 mm;
  • width – 2145 mm;
  • side height (side) – 900 mm.

The platform is equipped with a lighting lamp and a buzzer button installed in the driver's cabin. The side boards are fixed, the rear side is folded down. Folding benches are installed along the side sides.

There is a safety strap between the side panels that extends above the edge of the rear panel. The front side of the GAZ-3308 platform is used to install a spare wheel bracket. Raising and lowering the spare wheel is carried out by a mechanical cable winch.

Devices

In front of the driver of the GAZ-3308 there is an instrument panel on which dial indicators, warning lamps and several switches are installed. List of devices:

  • a speedometer equipped with a total mileage counter is installed in the center;
  • on the right are pressure gauges that measure tire pressure and pressure in the front axle brake circuit;
  • Below are an ammeter and a pressure indicator in the rear axle brake circuit;
  • a cooling system thermometer is installed on the left, equipped with a red system emergency indicator;
  • Next to it is a lubrication system pressure gauge with a built-in light indicator for emergency pressure drop;
  • Below there is a fuel level indicator with a reserve remaining indicator (triggered when there are 12 liters of gasoline remaining).
