Buyers planning to purchase a UAZ car pay attention not only to its technical characteristics and operating features, but also to the overall dimensions. Since the products of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant are used for traveling over rough terrain, as well as for transporting passengers and various cargoes, the dimensions of these vehicles cannot be small.
Dimensions of the classic model
On average, a UAZ weighs about 3 tons. Each car model has its own design features, which determine the dimensions of the product . In addition, the size of the car is affected by its modification and tuning.
Basic data
The technical properties of the UAZ-452 “Loaf” make it easy to drive on virtually any road. The developers were able to achieve unique cross-country ability for this vehicle not only thanks to the use of all-wheel drive in its design, but also due to its universal dimensions. The model is widely used in various industries and areas: from transporting people and cargo to working as a cash-in-transit armored vehicle.
The developers of the Ulyanovsk Machine-Building Plant constantly “conjured”, modifying the UAZ-452. As a result, a huge number of experimental models were created on its basis. Among them, UAZs with caterpillar tracks, mini-tractors and cars capable of driving on rails gained the greatest popularity. But, it should be seen, serial production of these copies was never started.

Advantages and disadvantages
The general pros and cons of UAZs, as well as the details of choosing a new or used UAZ are perfectly described on the UAZbook, and in short, you need a garage, and the ability + desire to twist the nuts yourself: otherwise the car will be quite expensive to maintain.
I would like to draw your attention to the difference between the Bukhanka and other UAZs: the engine in the cabin (the fresh paint simply heated up and stuck to the jackets of the drivers who were ferrying the loaves from Ulyanovsk) + a complete lack of protection for the legs and the driver himself in a head-on collision. These facts must be taken into account when choosing a Loaf.

Brake system
There are rear and front drum brakes installed here.
The drum brake system of the UAZ Bukhanka consists of a parking, working and auxiliary mechanism.
The working system includes a master brake cylinder, a vacuum booster, a pressure level regulator in the rear brakes, pads, an ABS unit, a steering column, and operating circuits.
The main cylindrical mechanism converts the force that comes from the brake pedal into the pressure of the working fluid and distributes it along the circuits, as a result of which the vehicle is braked. An amplifier is needed to create more pressure in the system.
The pistons of the working cylinders begin to move the brake pads towards the wheel drums. When you press the brake pedal further, the rotation of the wheel mechanisms slows down, and the pressure of the working fluid increases to 15 MPa.
When the driver releases the pedal, the return spring moves the main cylinder mechanism to the neutral position, fluid flows into the cylinder, and the shoes release the drums, which leads to a decrease in pressure levels.
The parking system is necessary to keep the car in one place for a long time, for emergency braking and to prevent the vehicle from spontaneously moving on a slope.
It is recommended to change the working fluid in the brake system once every six months. The amount of working mixture should not be lower than 3 liters. The maximum capacity of this system is 7.5 liters.
Modifications
UAZ-452 is a van, the main modification of the UAZ-452A is an ambulance, popularly nicknamed the “tablet”. The car could accommodate up to 4 stretchers or six on benches and one accompanying person in both cases. The ambulance did not provide comfort when moving, the suspension remained with the standard model, but was the only ambulance capable of reaching the most remote places.[1] UAZ-452AS - ambulance vehicle in northern version
UAZ-452AE - a chassis for installing various equipment UAZ-452V - a ten-seater minibus with a carriage layout UAZ-452D - a truck with a double cabin and a wooden body UAZ-452G - an ambulance, differs from the UAZ-452A in capacity UAZ-452K - an experimental 16-seater three-axle bus, (6x4) (1973). UAZ-452P - truck tractor
Modern classic
Today, the van still remains primarily an all-terrain vehicle, although over the past 20 years a number of upgrades have been carried out in the models of the family, affecting the chassis, engine, transmission, and interior. All this made it possible to improve the performance of the car and increase its attractiveness in the eyes of motorists.
However, the length of the UAZ “Bukhanka” car, as well as its other dimensions, remain important parameters, since they directly affect the difficulty of driving such a car in modern urban conditions. The overall dimensions of the UAZ “Loaf” are determined by three main parameters: length, width and height of the body, which are usually measured:
- the length is measured from the most protruding place on the front bumper to the most distant part of the rear bumper;
- The extreme points when measuring body width are considered to be wheel arches or B-pillars;
- With height, everything is not easy, it is determined from the ground to the roof of the van, without taking into account the trunk and roof rails.
Now the dimensions of a classic minibus are:
- length - 4363 mm;
- width - 1940 mm;
- height - 2064 mm;
- total weight - 2880 kg.
The nine-seat interior layout includes a folding table and features optimal space distribution, plus all seats are equipped with seat belts. However, despite all the improvements, the love for minimalism among the designers of the Ulyanovsk plant has not gone away. What they mean by the concept of “comfort” when presenting their creation remains a mystery.
Have you, dear UAZ owners, been able to personally evaluate the modern modification of the “Loaf”?

UAZ(u) 452 in a metal case was given the “loaf” label due to its external resemblance to a loaf of bread. This series has found a surprisingly wide range of applications for the transport of goods, people and as special vehicles.
The next modernization, which took place in 1985, ended with a change in indexing and the end of the history of the 452 series.

Issues of operation, maintenance and repair of the UAZ fuel tank
Operation and maintenance of UAZ fuel tanks are simple; just follow a few recommendations:
- At each refueling, pay attention to the condition of the filler necks;
- At each TO-2, it is necessary to check the fastening of the fuel tanks and their general condition, inspect the tanks for cracks, deformations, corrosion, leaks, broken fittings, etc.;
- During seasonal maintenance, it is necessary to drain the sediment from the tanks and flush them.
If any malfunctions are detected, the tank must be repaired (soldered/welded cracks, equipment replaced, etc.) or replaced as an assembly. To do this, you need to remove the tank, which is generally done as follows:
- Relieve pressure in the fuel system (turn off the fuel pump, start the engine and wait until the fuel is completely exhausted);
- Drain the fuel from the tank using the drain plug;
- Disconnect all pipelines and electrical connectors from the tank;
- Loosen the tank mounting clamps, unscrew the bolts from the brackets (if provided);
- Remove the tank and repair or replace it.
Tank repairs must be made only after complete removal of fuel, washing and drying. Installing a new tank is carried out in the reverse order. If the work is done correctly, the new tank will reliably serve for many years, even in the most difficult conditions.
The cabin heater was made using a radiator from a KamAZ heater and two fans with electric motors from a UAZ 3151. On the front panel of the heater, I installed switches for the headlight cleaner, cabin heater, interior heater, door locks, cigarette lighter and ashtray. At the bottom of the panel on the right and left there are deflectors from VAZ 2105 to supply air to the feet of the driver and front passenger, in the middle part there are four VAZ 2107 deflectors to supply air to the cabin.
The interior heater was equipped with a more powerful electric motor with a larger diameter impeller. Air intake is only from the passenger compartment, and hot air is supplied through a pipe through adjustable nozzles from the VAZ 2105 to the feet of passengers in the cabin. The fluid supply to the heaters is completely separate and controlled from the cabin.
I removed the partition behind the cab and strengthened the body frame in the middle part. The battery (it is behind the driver's seat) was covered with a casing. It turned out to be a convenient place for a first aid kit and a warning triangle.
All four wheels have been fitted with mudguards, not installed by the factory, but required by traffic police inspectors. The standard sunroof was replaced with another one from KamAZ: it opens in all directions, which improves ventilation.
Characteristics of individual components and elements of the machine
The power unit of the UAZ 3303 car is located along the central axis under the metal cabin. This model is distinguished by the absence of a hood, which in no way impairs access to the engine. To repair or service the engine, you must move inside the cabin. This greatly facilitates the driver’s work in difficult weather conditions, when there is a need to repair any breakdowns.
The engine in the UAZ 3303 is located under the cab between the seats
The car cabin can additionally accommodate one passenger. Steering the vehicle is comfortable for the driver of any configuration, which is possible thanks to the successful placement of the steering column. The presence of a large windshield provides good visibility, which is especially important when driving off-road.
The gear shift mechanism in the UAZ 3303 deserves special attention. It is made in the form of rods, which is not always convenient. The body and cargo platform of the vehicle are made of wood, but if necessary, can be equipped with an awning. The sides of this vehicle are made folding, which ensures comfortable loading and unloading of any cargo.
Option for the UAZ 3303 gearbox
The suspension of the UAZ 3303 is made on a dependent rear (drive) and front (connected gear) axle, which are designed using semi-elliptical springs. They are equipped with shock absorbers that ensure comfortable movement of the car in any conditions.
