"Volgograd Tractor" is an agricultural tracked tractor, which belongs to the fourth traction class. Despite the fact that the VT 150 tractor is a relatively new model, it has already been discontinued. Why did this happen? Let's answer this question and consider the technical characteristics of the model.
Scope of application

T 150 is designed for basic agricultural work. It is also used in road construction or land reclamation. It is useful during warehouse work (loading and unloading) and transportation.
The high technical characteristics of the VT 150 tractor allow it to work with wide-cut equipment, pulling more than five tons. The tractor is capable of cultivating the same territory as the Kirovets K-700 in the same period of time, but with less fuel consumption. It shows more than 50% increase in productivity compared to the traditional DT-75.
It demonstrates the highest profitability on fields with an area of more than fifty hectares. That is, the tractor is intended for large-scale sown areas and serious farms.
The reasons why this powerful tractor was discontinued are more economic than political. After the collapse of the USSR, there were few large farms and acreage left, so it became unprofitable to produce a tractor.
Interesting! The machine stands out because it is designed on caterpillar tracks. This increases cross-country ability and reduces specific pressure on the soil. When wearing special caterpillars, the tractor is considered to be a swamp tractor.

In their reviews, peasants naturally compare this new tractor with the classic DT-75 and Volgars, as well as with the KhTZ-181. O is a truly deep modernization of its predecessors, a qualitatively new tractor, and not just “the same thing, just in a new wrapper.”
Of course, the new cabin deserves all praise: less noisy, more comfortable for the operator; The front and rear windows are double, the air cooler is made differently, on the roof. Even in comparison with the new tracked “KhTZ”, also widely presented at exhibitions several years ago, the cabin of the “VT-150” is “simply heavenly”. Very convenient access to the engine for maintenance and repair: “The hood is hinged, lift it - and everything is in full view, you can remove the engine.”
All controls are powered by pneumatic amplifiers, and therefore very easy. (However, if the compressor fails, the tractor simply becomes uncontrollable). The engine is moved forward, the distance between the carriages is increased, and due to this the tractor moves more smoothly.
The hydraulic distributor is moved back to the right wing, access and replacement are free. On the rear platform there are fuel and hydraulic tanks, a hydraulic distributor on a single frame, all of which can be easily removed, allowing access to the rear axle and gearbox. You can even remove the bridge without removing the cabin.
The undoubted advantages of the VT-150 tractor are power, productivity, and a good level of comfort for the operator. On farms, the tractor demonstrates excellent results in plowing with the PNU 5-35 plow; for cultivation with cultivators “KPS-8”, “OPO-8.5”; for harrowing - with a 12m hitch; on disking "BDT-7" "BDM-3-4"; with seeders “AUP-18”, “SPU-6”; "KPK-8" - in pairs. There is successful experience of using it with the eight-furrow flat-cut plow “PChV-8” (it works well in 1-2 gears, but is only too heavy for transport). Repairs happen, but “the ease of repair outweighs the disadvantages.”
The performance and efficiency of the VT-150 deserve respect. With this tractor, “it’s as easy as shelling pears to cover the Kirov quota per shift, and with less consumption... You just need to have something to load it with.”
The downside is problems with spare parts: what is not suitable from DT is not easy to find and is expensive. Another problem that more than one owner of the VT-150 has encountered is the weak tracks: “it drives across the field effectively, but not for long.” There is an opinion that if you use the “VT-150” only with guns intended for the “DT-75”, then there will be no problems, but with heavier ones it’s no longer worth it .
And finally, in their reviews, the peasants express the following powerful argument against the “VT-150”: “The plant has been covered with a copper basin; Very few of them were produced, it’s impossible to find cheap spare parts and a donor, as with a simple “DT”... “It’s better to just buy MTZ, the rest are all “under the radar”... “All these tractors are so, the dreams of the Agromash concern.” In general, it’s better not to mess with Agromash - you’ll save YOUR nerves and money.” Well, here, as they say, no comments.
Engine
The machine is equipped with a powerful 4-cylinder diesel engine with a volume of 7.4 liters, which has an oil-liquid cooling circuit. Torque reserve is 20%. The spacious engine compartment allows you to replace it with a more powerful analogue, but the factory version also makes it possible to use equipment that weighs even over 5 tons. Fuel consumption can reach up to 19 liters per hour.
A high degree of heat transfer and thermostats make it possible to significantly reduce the time required to warm up the engine before starting it in the cold season. In hot weather they protect the engine from overheating.
Repairing a tractor engine is not difficult. The hinged hood allows free access to all main systems and units.

Transmission
The 5-speed gearbox provides fifteen speed modes. To improve the maneuverability of the machine, a disc clutch is mounted on it. The brakes are also disc type. This transmission scheme greatly reduces the turning angle. Lever control via pneumatic booster; pedals are not involved.

The service life of rubbing components and gears can be extended by the forced lubrication system. It is possible to supplement the transmission with a reverse gearbox and a stroke reducer.

Steering and brake control
The steering of the unit is no different from traditional cars. It's pretty simple. The farmer squeezes the lever and at the same moment the clutch is released, and then the brake.
The rotation is controlled by a planetary rotation mechanism with pneumatic serving. The machine is equipped with disc stopping brakes, which differ from the classic tracked technology of band-type brakes. They have an increased service life and are easy to maintain.

It can be noted that the HTZ T-150 tractor is easy to use, and after modernization it reached the world level of competitiveness. Along with high quality and decent performance, the machine has a reasonable price range. Availability of spare parts and ease of maintenance, including the ability to independently repair most components, are the main criteria for the popularity of this equipment in the vast expanses of the former Soviet Union and neighboring countries.

The spacious operator's cabin is almost no different from other models of tracked vehicles of this type. It has sprung seats, the configuration of which can be transformed. At the same time, they dampen vibration, can be adjusted in height and can withstand shaking. The heating system in the cabin is built-in. Its tightness is ensured by rubber gaskets.
The cabin has two seats. It has excellent sound and water insulation. The door also has rubber gaskets that absorb sound from impact. There are similar gaskets in the controls. The instrument panel is located directly in front of the driver. Panoramic glazing of the workplace provides the operator with an excellent overview.
The car has double glazed windows with windshield wipers. A calorific heater and ventilation system make the driver’s stay in the cabin comfortable.

They were needed for destroyed cities and industries. At first, the focus was on the production of pre-war models, but they quickly became outdated.
The Chelyabinsk models competed with VT tractors produced in Volgograd. Since the mid-fifties, the ChTZ design bureau began to work hard on the project of a caterpillar tractor capable of replacing models with weak engines.
Mistakes that delayed the launch of new equipment into production could not be avoided. As a result of the combined efforts of people, the T-100 tracked tractor appeared in 1963.
