NefAZ-5299-0000010 class I bus is designed to transport passengers on city routes.

Two modifications of the bus, differing in engine models: NefAZ-5299-10-32 (Cummins engine model 6ISBe270B) and NefAZ-5299-10-33 (KAMAZ-740.65-240 engine model). The bus has seats as well as off-aisle areas for standing passengers. The body is frame, all-metal, three-door, carriage type with thermal insulation. The engine location is rear. Still, you need to understand how the KAMAZ engine rattled throughout the entire cabin; the engine had extremely poor sound insulation. The drive axle and gearbox also created a lot of noise.

Time has revealed other shortcomings of the first model. The salon turned out to be designed relatively poorly. 25 seats were not enough, and the handrails could not support the load. A matter of technology

As for the dimensions of the standard NefAZ, they are 11.7 × 2.5 × 3.1 m with a wheelbase of 5840 mm. The total weight reaches 18 tons. The front axle weighs 6.5 tons, and the rear axle - 11.5 tons. The vehicle's ground clearance is 285 mm, and the turning radius is at least 12 m.

As for the engines, several of them were installed, and also on different fuels. KAMAZ 740-820 were coming from the plant.

Some cars were equipped with a Cummins 6ISBe270B with 270 horsepower and a volume of 6.7 liters. It was equipped with a turbocharger and consumed 24 liters of diesel per 100 km with a tank volume of 250 liters. Mercedes-Benz and Caterpillar engines of various modifications were also installed in different models. For example, the Mercedes-Benz M906 LAG/EEV/1, it produced 280 horses, and even with a smaller volume of 6.9 liters.

Gearboxes for different modifications also varied; initially they had KamAZ-141, later KamAZ-142, Praga 5P120, ZF 6S-85, Voith DIWA D 851.3E and other gearboxes of these companies were used. Preference was given to 4-speed manual transmissions and 5-speed automatic transmissions, depending on the purpose of a particular model.

Variations

NefAZ-5299 has had 42 modifications since the start of production. Refinement of the initially not very successful design was constantly required, especially since there was a struggle for the bus market with LIAZ.

The basic model for transportation on urban routes accommodated 105 people, 25 of whom could ride sitting. Suburban modifications were less spacious and could carry 89 people, although the interior was equipped with 45 more comfortable seats for long trips. By the way, such a bus had two doors at the beginning and end of the car; the passage was elongated and felt very narrow.
