Along the route with all stops

In front of me is a bus with a classic design for midibuses. Engine in the rear, two doors - 1-2-0, floor with stepwise variable height. This is where the classic ends.

I understand right from the start that there are many surprises ahead for me at Higer. Or rather, from the steps, of which there are two, but at the same time very low in height, and a backlight is built into the bottom step.

If you turn left after entering the 2nd door, you will find yourself in a painfully familiar salon. Double seats on the sides and steps gradually reducing the aisle height from 2262 mm on the storage platform to 1600 mm on the last row. All seats are equipped with handrails, and they are also present on the ceiling on both sides, so it is not forbidden to ride standing here.

When you enter the salon with a baby stroller (the width of the 2nd door opening is 931 mm), it is better to immediately try out the drive. It is large enough even for two “baby cars” and is created as if only for them - mothers and fathers will be able to hold on to their strollers. For the rest, due to the lack of a handrail along the side, it will be difficult to stand.

But the most interesting thing is in the place of the “metro seats” familiar to the Chinese, along the sides above the wheel arches. Instead of six not very comfortable seats on the high podium, there are only three left, and bags can now be placed in the vacant space.

But older people will not like the salon. Sadly, there are no comfortable places for them - all the chairs are on podiums and it is difficult to get onto them.

The ventilation and heating problem has been well solved. In summer, the climate is controlled by fairly wide sliding windows and three hatches equipped with fans, with the ability to work both for supply and exhaust. And in winter, passengers will be pleased with five cabin heaters. All that remains is to check that they are installed correctly directly on the floor; unfortunately, our “chemical” snow from boots tends to corrode not only shoes, but also wires.

And one more mystery. The Higer KLQ6891GA is available in four interior layouts. Their main differences are the presence of a storage area and the number of “metro spaces”. Do you think the version with storage and six seats along the sides should have the largest passenger capacity? No matter how it is. The modification “studded” with seats with 31 seats and 25 standing passengers will take away the most, because the versions with storage are, according to documents, 1000 kg heavier. Unfortunately, I don’t understand why this is so...

The first intersection will pass...

Getting into the driver's seat is easy - there are no personal entrances, separate cabins or partitions up to the window line. You can live with this - there is not much free space. But the lack of a full-fledged cabin wall is already annoying. There is simply nowhere to hang a jacket, put a hat or put away your proceeds without fearing for its safety. Although no, money can be poured into the first aid kit attached to the floor to the right of the seat.

But behind the steering wheel it’s convenient. The steering wheel does not block anything, nothing restricts movement, and at the same time there is no need to reach for the buttons. I was also pleased with the visibility - the brushes have good coverage, and the mirrors are multi-sectional, with the main sections equipped with heating and electrical adjustment. By the way, the Chinese struggled so much with “dead” zones that they even overdid it a little. The fact is that of the four lenses on the right side, at my 176 cm, I can see only the main one and the round one for viewing the front bumper without strain. If you bend over a little, you can see another section, although you won’t be able to adjust it without a stepladder. And you can only look into the top mirror if you lie down on the dashboard. You can’t spoil porridge with oil - that’s understandable, but is it necessary?..

Well, it's time to go. I turn the key, turn on the gear... And the diagram is upside down. Low gears are on the right, and high gears are on the left. Quite clear and small moves allow you to quickly adapt to such an algorithm and do everything automatically. During the entire trip, I didn’t make a single mistake when switching. And the height of the lever is optimal for me - on the highway, instead of an armrest, it’s just what I need. True, the Chinese did not agree with me, and in the next delivery of buses the gearbox switching scheme turned out to be traditional.

It was much more difficult to get used to the other one. At first I couldn't get going. Do you think it's a problem with the handbrake? You guessed wrong! The habit of making all lane changes only with a turn signal let me down - I couldn’t find the “turn signal” lever. And no wonder, since it is located... to the right of the steering column. As a result, for half of the test drive, before any maneuver, I really thought about where and what I should switch. Fortunately, this unfortunate solution has also already been fixed, the switch is now on the left.

Otherwise, no questions. It’s not serious to talk about maneuverability with such dimensions. Acceleration dynamics, braking, engine noise - no problem. Smooth ride – was it a waste of time to install air suspension? In general, I liked it - after all, the layout with the engine in the stern is much more convenient than the rumbling of the engine under the right ear.
