Motoblock "NEVA" MB23 MultiAGRO YAMAHA: what is hidden under the shield and more

The MultiAGRO gearbox is a development of design engineers at Krasny Oktyabr-Neva JSC. The product has received a patent in Russia and China.

Features of the MultiAGRO gearbox

  • increased number of gears (allows you to select the appropriate speed for each agricultural and business operation;
  • increased gear ratio (increases the traction capabilities of the walk-behind tractor at lower power consumption);
  • separation of the left and right wheels (provides a minimum turning radius, increasing the maneuverability of the walk-behind tractor; relevant only for NEVA walk-behind tractors MB2 MultiAGRO and MB23 MultiAGRO)
  • reinforced aluminum alloy housing with internal stiffeners (makes the gearbox more durable and resistant to increased loads);
  • special silicone sealant (provides sealing of the gearbox housing);
  • streamlined gearbox shape (reduces resistance when cultivating land).

Advantages of multi-speed walk-behind tractors "NEVA"

Based on the “MultiAGRO” gearbox, a new generation of multi-speed walk-behind tractors “NEVA” MB1 MultiAGRO, MB2 MultiAGRO and MB23 MultiAGRO was created. As a rule, walk-behind tractors presented on the Russian market have 2 forward gears and 1 reverse gear. It is believed that this set of gears is sufficient to perform basic agricultural operations. However, numerous tests and practice cast doubt on this statement.

Thus, the expert group of the St. Petersburg Agrotechnical University (SPBGAU) conducted tests, during which several NEVA models and plows from various manufacturers were used. According to the presented expert opinion, the most optimal operating mode of plows in terms of traction-dynamic, speed and economic characteristics was achieved when using the NEVA MB1 walk-behind tractor with a MultiAGRO gearbox as a traction device.

The experts argued this conclusion by the fact that the NEVA MB1 MultiAGRO walk-behind tractor, unlike other models provided for testing, has an increased speed range (from 2.0 to 12.9 km/h). Thanks to this, the researchers were able to select the plowing speed that allowed them to conduct high-quality tests of the plows. On the NEVA model MB1 MultiAGRO is 2nd gear (4.0 - 5.8 km/h). Note that the majority of walk-behind tractors offered to Russian consumers do not operate in this speed range.

The test results of St. Petersburg State Agrarian University specialists were an important confirmation that the productivity of an agricultural operation increases if the appropriate speed is selected for its implementation. The MultiAGRO concept is built on this idea - to provide the user with the opportunity to achieve excellent results in soil cultivation, working in a mode convenient for him, while saving time, effort and fuel.

Of course, you have every reason to argue that the walk-behind tractors on the market (at least from well-known manufacturers) productively carry out plowing and other agricultural operations. And this is undoubtedly true. However, if the transmission does not provide the ability to adjust the speed, then in some situations even the most reliable equipment may fail. What are these situations? Firstly, the need to work on different types of soil. On some soils, the speeds available in 1st gear will allow plowing; on others, it may be necessary to use higher speeds that are not available due to the features of the walk-behind tractor transmission.

Secondly, the need to treat overdried or waterlogged soil. It is very difficult to carry out agricultural operations on loam swollen with moisture. Therefore, choosing a convenient speed limit in such conditions will be very important.

Multi-speed walk-behind tractors "NEVA" will help to avoid unforeseen situations that may arise during agricultural and business operations. When working on these products, the user will quickly select the appropriate speed for himself and will not depend on natural and climatic conditions.

To perform a small amount of work on a personal plot, a Neva walk-behind tractor is used. The universal mobile vehicle based on a single-axle chassis has several modifications and is equipped with attachments.

Types of walk-behind tractors

The model range is represented by several types of walk-behind tractors, differing from each other in the installed engine.

Among the best units are:

Neva walk-behind tractors are designed to work on any soil, creating a tillage depth of up to 32 cm. The MD-23SD unit, equipped with a 7-hp Subaru diesel engine, has good performance. With.

Among all the models, this is the most popular. The MB-23 universal mobile vehicle is a heavy unit equipped with a 10 hp engine. With.

Many models are equipped with professional Briggs & Stratton engines with power from 6 to 7.5 liters. With. The Neva unit is popular - the walk-behind tractor is equipped with a compact imported engine.

Main settings

The main property of a walk-behind tractor is reliability and quality. Technical characteristics of the model Neva MB-23 9 l. With. allow us to evaluate the walk-behind tractor as a high-performance design.

Main components for the MB-23 model:

The maximum speed for the walk-behind tractor is set using a gearbox that has 3 speeds for forward movement and one for reverse. Often during work there is a need to change the speed of movement of the unit. To increase the rear speed on the Neva walk-behind tractor, you should reinstall the drive belt.

A universal mobile device has additional equipment:

  • plow;
  • hiller;
  • cutters;
  • potato digger;
  • segment and rotary mowers;
  • trailer.

Engine displacement is 306 cm³, power is 10 liters. With. The walk-behind tractor's ignition system helps the device operate smoothly in all weather conditions.

Before starting plowing, the equipment is run in. The user follows all the rules specified in the instructions. If a problem arises, how to set the reverse speed on a walk-behind tractor in order to plow heavy soil, replace the gear pair mounted in the wheel gearboxes. Mounting a gear increases the speed by 1.5 times. The second option is possible - installing large diameter tires (704 mm).

Diesel equipment of the unit

The description of the mobile device of Krasny Oktyabr JSC allows one to judge the quality of its products, power and price. The Neva diesel walk-behind tractor is equipped with an engine of the Japanese brand Robin Subaru DY27-2D.

The motor has a power of 5.5 liters. With. The following attachments are installed on each cultivator model:

  • mower;
  • root crop digger model B904L;
  • snow removal equipment.

The Neva walk-behind tractor uses a functional and easy-to-use gear shift system. The Pro version of the diesel engine is equipped with a headlight and an electric starter.

A simple lightweight model is equipped with a fuel tank with a capacity of 3 liters. The diesel engine can be equipped with water cooling, allowing the unit to increase efficiency under heavy loads.

Oils poured into the engine must correspond to the brand specified by the manufacturer. Operation of the D6 diesel unit is carried out after its re-preservation. Disassembling the unit is intended to remove grease from the outer surfaces of components and parts and warm up the diesel engine. How many operations must be carried out during the depreservation process is indicated in the instructions.

The user becomes familiar with the operation of the units in winter conditions, since motor cultivators require refilling the oil dial regulator with a mixture of 50% diesel fuel and 50% MS-14 oil. In winter, the diesel engine is heated with hot water and oil. Starting a cold engine is prohibited.

Motoblock "NEVA" MB23 MultiAGRO YAMAHA: what is hidden under the shield and more

NEVA walk-behind tractors are well known to land owners. Several generations of users have preferred this technique.

Walk-behind tractors are produced in St. Petersburg. In 2016, the company released new models with the MultiAGRO multi-speed gearbox. In 2022, the NEVA MB23 MultiAGRO walk-behind tractor appeared.

Professional engines YAMAHA MX250 and MX300

The NEVA MB23 MultiAGRO walk-behind tractors are equipped with professional YAMAHA MX250 and MX300 engines, the maximum power of which is at 4000 rpm. reaches 11 and 12 hp. respectively. These engines are produced by the Japanese company Yamaha Motor Powered Products Co., LTD, which is one of the largest manufacturers of power units in the world.

YAMAHA MX250 and MX300 engines have a number of advantages, the main one being their high engine life (more than 5000 hours). Such a service life can be obtained by shifting the cylinder axis from the center of the crankshaft axis. As a result, by the way, the wear of the piston rings and cylinder liner is also reduced. In addition, high-frequency hardening of working surfaces (such as the crankshaft, camshaft and valves, as well as their guides) increases their wear resistance.

In addition, these engines have an automatically adjustable speed controller, allowing them to quickly respond to load changes. The consequence of this is the efficient and reliable operation of the walk-behind tractor in any operating conditions.

Another advantage of the engines is the presence of a balancer shaft, which significantly reduces vibration levels. We verified the validity of this statement in practice. We put the YAMAHA MX300 engine on the table and started it. The engine remained in place during operation.

Features of YAMAHA MX250 and MX300 engines

  • power - 11.0 hp and 12 hp at 4000 rpm
  • fuel tank volume - 5.5 hp.
  • motor life - more than 5000 hours

Advantages of the MultiAGRO gearbox

The MultiAGRO gearbox is our own design, patented in Russia and China. In essence, this is a standard gear-chain reducer, but with a special kinematic scheme that allows you to expand the range of gears to the maximum possible range. The idea of creating such a gearbox arose as a result of numerous tests carried out both by the manufacturer itself and by independent experts. While cultivating the soil with a walk-behind tractor with a standard set of gears (2 forward and 1 reverse), experts each time came to the conclusion that if there was an intermediate speed for performing a particular agricultural operation, it would be more convenient to work. Moreover, there are different types of soil, and the speed that is suitable for one soil is not always suitable for another. As a result, it was decided to create a gearbox whose kinematic diagram would “cover” the entire traction and speed regime.

The MultiAGRO gearbox uses silicone sealant instead of a traditional gasket. This protective agent, unlike the gasket, is placed around the entire perimeter of the junction of the gearbox halves, thereby preventing dust and moisture from getting inside. As a result, the gearbox will last much longer.

The main differences of the MultiAGRO gearbox
  • An extended gear range (3-forward, 1-reverse or 4-forward, 2-reverse with the possibility of doubling) guarantees precise selection of the optimal speed for each agricultural and economic operation performed
  • A high gear ratio increases the traction capabilities of the walk-behind tractor at lower power consumption
  • The separation of the left and right wheels ensures a minimum turning radius, increasing the maneuverability of the walk-behind tractor
  • Aluminum body with developed internal ribbing guarantees rigidity and resistance to increased loads
  • Sealing the housing with silicone sealant provides reliable protection from dust and dirt, as well as sealing the internal cavity of the gearbox
  • The streamlined shape of the lower part of the gearbox reduces soil resistance during cultivation and leaves behind a smaller furrow

Based on the “MultiAGRO” gearbox, a series of multi-speed walk-behind tractors “NEVA” MB1 MultiAGRO, MB2 MultiAGRO, MB23 MultiAGRO were created, applicable for performing all types of agricultural and economic work. Below is a table of the traction-speed mode of execution

Using the NEVA MB23 MultiAGRO walk-behind tractor as an example, we will analyze how gears are distributed when plowing. The table shows that you can plow on this model in the following gears:

Power walk-behind tractor "NEVA" MB23 MultiAGRO

The multi-speed walk-behind tractor MB23 MultiAGRO is the most powerful model in the NEVA line of motorized equipment. The walk-behind tractor is suitable for cultivating heavy soils on large areas, as well as for performing household work that requires intensive and long-term loads. Using this technique, plowing virgin soil, removing compacted snow or snowdrifts, and transporting heavy loads over rough terrain is not difficult for this walk-behind tractor.

The NEVA MB23 MultiAGRO walk-behind tractor has a robust design. Each element and component of the product is tested under the most severe operating conditions. On average, about 100 hours are worked on a walk-behind tractor per year. This product has worked 300 hours over the course of a year and continues to work reliably. The NEVA MB23 MultiAGRO walk-behind tractor has a lightweight frame mounted on a gearbox. At first glance, this design seems unreliable, but numerous tests, as well as positive customer reviews, indicate otherwise. The product can withstand heavy loads, of course, subject to the rules noted in the Operation Manual. This equipment is not designed to install wheels from a Zhiguli car or a Belarus tractor.

The same applies to doubts about installing a lightweight pulley in the gearbox and moving the gearbox forward. The fact is that this modification does not affect the quality of work. The rigidity of the shaft on which the pulley is mounted is sufficient to perform heavy work. Again, the evidence is the results of tests and direct work on sites.

Features of the walk-behind tractor:
  • Multi-speed gearbox "MultiAGRO"
  • Expanded gear set (8-forward and 4-reverse)
  • High-life YAMAHA engine (motor life - more than 5,000 hours)
  • Increased traction capabilities (300 kgf)
  • Swivel guard for easy belt repositioning
  • Disconnection of the right and left wheels
  • Doubler lever to change the gear range (high or low range)
  • Cultivation with 4,6 and 8 cutters

Gearbox features

Thanks to the increased number of gears, the user can select the appropriate speed for any agricultural operation. The gearbox for a walk-behind tractor has an increased gear ratio, which allows you to increase the capabilities of the unit using less power.

The gearbox of the Neva walk-behind tractor is equipped with silicone sealant, which provides a reinforced coating of the housing. A special feature of the gearbox of the Neva walk-behind tractor is that the components necessary for changing gears are mounted on its outer part of the housing.

The MultiAgro gearbox is mechanical, gear, chain, has a streamlined shape that reduces resistance during plowing. The oil level in the gearbox ensures successful operation of the unit and protects the engine from premature wear.

Before adding fuel, you must familiarize yourself with the rules for handling the gearbox. The user must navigate the price and quality of the fluid in order to cope with changing the oil in the gearbox of the Neva walk-behind tractor.

It is necessary to pay attention to the degree of viscosity of the material and special additives. The Multi Agro gearbox is filled with ZIC 10w40 gear oils of the API-SM/CF standard. You should study the technical data of Super T-3 85W-90 lubricant before pouring it into the gearbox.

How much oil to fill in the gearbox

How much oil to fill by volume depends on the intensity of work, since in this case the lubricant is consumed faster or slower.

The standard volume required is 2.2 liters.

The gearbox has a control hole with a bolt. If you unscrew it, oil will flow out. In this case, you will need to top it up until it flows. After this, the control bolt is tightened and the filler cap is closed. All lubricant residues are removed from the surface using a dry rag.

Important! Lubricant must always be available and refilled. You can't work without this. If necessary, the level can be checked using a dipstick.

When checking with a dipstick, you must wait until the equipment has completely cooled down. Otherwise, the level will be shown higher than it is.

If the level is not constantly monitored, then repair of the gearbox may be required in the future.

Operating manual for walk-behind tractor Neva MB-23B-8.0

The small-sized device is equipped with trailed and mounted implements for plowing, loosening, and cultivating the soil. The operating instructions introduce the user to the general provisions, which contain information regarding the operation of the walk-behind tractor, maintenance and storage of the unit.

The instruction manual contains information about possible malfunctions and tips for eliminating them. The instructions indicate the engine features for any modification of the walk-behind tractor.

The manual for the Neva Compact walk-behind tractor indicates the purpose of the main parts of the unit:

  • gearbox;
  • cutter clutch mechanism;
  • hitch bracket;
  • cultivation depth limiter.

The user, having familiarized himself with the control mechanism of the walk-behind tractor, determines how to increase the speed when plowing heavy soil. The instructions indicate a lever that allows you to change gears with the engine running and the clutch disengaged to the nearest neutral gear.

Accelerated operation of the motor with distorted vibration is a reason to inspect the walk-behind tractor and repair damage. If the edges of the knives are damaged, the usual set of cutters is completely replaced.

What are the types of walk-behind tractor gearboxes: types and purpose

There are two main engine options used in the Neva - gasoline and diesel. The electric type is rarely used. This does not change the gearbox's purpose. The type of mechanisms can be of various options:

  • chain. There is a metal chain with which the sprockets are scrolled. There is a bolted connection. Among the advantages are convenient operation and reverse function;
  • gear-worm is used for a vertical crankshaft. Among the features are a high level of performance and minimal noise effect. Made from different alloys. Steel and cast iron can be used;
  • in the belt version, a rectangular or V-shaped belt is used instead of a chain. The belt strip is fixed with pulleys, which have grooves;
  • The gear option depends on the design, which can be either angular or straight. The gear itself is mounted on shafts and has the shape of a cone or cylinder. This type of gearbox is rarely used, as it is difficult to maintain. Most often it is installed on professional-type equipment, as it has high power.

There may also be homemade options that combine different types.

Important! All gearboxes, regardless of their purpose, must receive complete and high-quality lubricating oil, as wear gradually occurs.

Unit repair

The owner studies the structure of the walk-behind tractor and corrects faults in a timely manner. When the engine is running, ignition may occur, black smoke may come out of the muffler, and carbon deposits may form on the spark plug.

In this case, it is necessary to disassemble the air filter and clean it. If the spark is lost, the engine does not start, and the spark plug is wet, the reasons for the failure in the ignition system are determined. The owner of the walk-behind tractor cleans the electrodes, rinses and dries the parts. It is necessary to disassemble the walk-behind tractor engine, observing the following rules:

  • drain the oil from the crankcase;
  • install the filler plug;
  • Disconnect the hose and air filter.

Next, you should dismantle the remaining parts of the engine. Before assembling the engine, parts are cleaned of dirt and components to be installed are washed. When setting up the crank mechanism, check the suitability of the oil scraper rings for operation.

Piston rings are replaced only as a set.

Engine DM-1-01 and its modifications

The Neva walk-behind tractor is equipped with an economical 6 hp engine. With. Working fuel is used: gasoline grades AI-80, AI-92 in accordance with TU-38.001165-2003. The carburetor is equipped with an air filter, allowing easier starting at low temperatures. Automatic decompressor reduces starting force. Stable operation is ensured by contactless electronic ignition.

The engine consists of parts:

  • crank mechanism;
  • gas distribution systems;
  • fuel mechanism;
  • air supply and removal of processed gases.

Ignition of the walk-behind tractor is necessary to ensure uninterrupted sparking in the spark plug.

Before starting work, the engine is depreserved. The fuel tank is filled with gasoline in the amount of 2 liters, and the cold (unheated) engine is started.

Some users do not know how to increase the crankshaft speed. Excessive load without warming up the engine leads to rapid wear of the piston pairs and, as a result, causes them to jam.

User opinions

Reviews from walk-behind tractor owners help future users take into account errors and become familiar with the advantages and disadvantages of the equipment.

Vasily, Perm: “I purchased a Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor with a power of 7 hp. With. The unit is made with high quality. There are no complaints about the operation of the speed switch; I am quite satisfied with the engine power. The walk-behind tractor is stylish and fashionable, I give it 5 points.”

Some users have a different opinion about the purchased unit.

Ivan, Vologda: “I bought a Russian walk-behind tractor Neva MB-2S-7.0. The spark often disappears, a major breakdown occurred - a fire, which I fixed myself. When I started it for the first time, I saw that the gears were not changed by the lever. I didn’t like the unit.”

Many reviews about the Neva walk-behind tractor, both positive and negative, do not reduce interest in it, since success in work depends not only on the machine itself, but on the skill of the user.

Possible breakdowns

It is worth saying that the gearbox from the Neva-MB-2 walk-behind tractor can be repaired quickly and easily. This is possible due to the fact that you can always find spare parts for it on the market. This need arises when the following signs appear:

  • oil begins to appear on the output shaft;
  • the chain jams;
  • no kinematic connection;
  • Gears don't change.

In all of these cases, it is necessary to disassemble and inspect the gearbox. If oil leaks, the problem can be eliminated by simply replacing the cuff, which over time may lose its original qualities. Jamming is always associated with a broken chain, so this problem can only be eliminated by a complete replacement. If this element is intact, but there is no kinematic connection, you should pay attention to the sprockets present in the design. One of them could have broken off.

If there is no gear shift, the crack is inspected, which may be destroyed. Sometimes the threaded part of the handle is cut off. If the user begins to notice that oil leakage is observed on the shift shaft, this is not always an indication of a breakdown. Sometimes the permissible oil level in the gearbox is simply exceeded. The excess just needs to be drained.

It is worth remembering that improper starting and adjustment can also lead to malfunctions during operation of the gearbox, so the manufacturer advises you to carefully study the instructions before you start using the equipment.

More complex breakdowns should only be repaired by specialists, since incorrect disassembly of the unit by an inexperienced user often leads to an even larger problem and the need for expensive repairs.

The following video is devoted to disassembling and repairing the gearbox.
