The calculation itself is made according to the Pythagorean theorem, since the building itself and the distance from the platform to it are the legs of a right triangle, and the boom of special equipment is the hypotenuse.

At the same time, you should not be guided only by this formula - you always need to make a small margin for the arrow reach. Those. if you want to carry out work on the 3rd floor level of a standard brick or panel residential building (where the average height of each floor is 3 meters and there is a 1 meter base), you must order special equipment with at least a 12-meter boom. Knowing this, you can determine what the minimum height of the aerial platform should be when carrying out work on a certain floor of the building.
It is also worth noting once again that these values are minimal and are relevant only for cases when the aerial platform can drive close to the wall. Often, next to the building there is a lawn enclosed by a fence, entrance areas or other structures, which also must be taken into account, since if the chassis can only be placed at a distance of 6 meters from the building, then to carry out work at the 4th floor level, special equipment with a 15-meter boom will be needed clearly not enough.
Work at height is not always carried out in one place - for example, the installation of canopies assumes that a long structure will be fixed at several points located at a distance from each other. This distance must also be taken into account, leaving additional margin for the arrow.
All these calculations are relevant only for typical multi-storey residential buildings. In many buildings located in the center of Moscow, the floors have non-standard heights. For example, on the ground floor there is a store with ceilings of 5 meters, and on the floors above there are apartments with a height of 3.5 meters. The situation is similar in houses with built-on attic floors, industrial buildings and shopping centers. In such cases, the calculation of the length of the aerial platform is carried out on an individual basis, taking into account the required headroom.
