There is one more feature: under each seat there is a large container where you can put tools and personal belongings. Engineers have prepared another nice little thing for truckers. After starting the engine, vibration appears, but it is minimal. Thanks to the designers who thoroughly worked on the suspension of the power unit. But the main thing, of course, is the suspension of the cabin itself. Despite the fact that it is large, it has very energy-intensive rubber, which is why vibration is practically not felt, despite the fact that the engine here is almost five-liter. The seat belts are car-like, they slide in and out very easily. They also have height adjustment. The brakes are pneumohydraulic; to remove the car from the brake there is a special valve in the form of a lever. When the car is empty, it’s better to move away like in a real truck: in second gear, not first. The car starts moving extremely easily. The diesel engine is very soft, just spin it up to 2500 rpm, put the gearshift lever in third gear and you can accelerate. After gaining speed, you can switch to fourth and then fifth gear. The tachometer shows 2500 - 2600 rpm, no more is needed.
This truck is not even worth comparing with previous generations. This machine is completely different, and the main merit for this goes to the modular production scheme. This level of comfort in the class of medium-duty trucks is very rare and was achieved due to the fact that its entire residential module was borrowed from the Gazelle Next minibus, which is now very popular in Russia.
Instrument cluster
1. Tachometer. Indicates the engine speed in rpm. Do not allow the engine to run for long periods of time at speeds above 3600 rpm.
2. Engine coolant temperature gauge. When the arrow reaches the red zone of the scale and the emergency high coolant temperature indicator lights up, it is necessary to stop the engine and eliminate the cause of overheating.
3. Mode/trip computer control button.
To self-test the instrument cluster, turn on the instruments (key position I) and after 1–2 seconds press the button. In this case, indicators 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 11, 24, 26, 27, 29 and 30 are turned on, all segments of the multifunction display, dial indicators go from minimum to maximum.
The self-test mode is interrupted: independently after the instrument needles move from the initial scale mark to the maximum; when the engine crankshaft speed signal appears, when the instruments are turned off.
After the self-test mode ends, the instrument cluster enters operating mode.

The truck provides comfort even on rough roads. We can say that in terms of equipment it is close to passenger cars. There is a radio, a USB port, and even cruise control. There are other comfort elements typical of passenger cars: niches, various switches, even power windows.
And in terms of the nature of movement, the car is similar to passenger cars. If, for example, the driver takes his hands off the steering wheel, the car will still move in a straight line without drifting to the side. It is enough if the driver steers slightly from time to time. This indicates the amazing stability of the car, in other words, excellent directional stability.
Where there is directional stability, there should be good handling. Let's check. To do this, let's try to drive a road loop while accelerating the car. Purpose: to check whether the car starts to yaw, and whether the driver will have to steer hard. We go into a turn and see that no problems arise, the car clearly reacts to the turn of the steering wheel.
Road feedback
There is an integrated power steering here. This means that both the amplifier and the mechanism itself are located in a single housing and the force is transmitted using a different kinematics, not the one that was before. Therefore, very clear tracking of the road occurs.

With the release of a new medium-duty truck to the market, GAZ is not so much expanding its capabilities as offering potential consumers affordable and, hopefully, reliable trucks in the medium-duty segment. It’s not for nothing that the GAZ team stated that GAZon NEXT, the production of which started in September last year with a base price of 1,085,000 rubles, is the best offer in the class. While competitors offer their trucks (though with a “cab-over-engine” configuration) with starting prices starting at RUB 1,650,000. (Hyundai HD78, Isuzu NPR75, Mitsubishi Fuso Canter).
So, “GAZon NEXT”. GAZ workers interpret the appearance of a new medium-tonnage vehicle as a logical development of the already existing GAZ-3307/-3309 family.
Acquaintance with the new product, traditionally, took place at the Nizhny Novgorod Ring automobile sports complex. The current one differed from previously organized events in its rich program, which included not only a daytime test drive, but also a test drive in the dark, as well as a lot of driving competitions (passing through large corridors, snaking, emergency driving, “driving into a garage,” etc.). P.). All this, according to the organizers, should have made it possible to fully reveal the potential of the new GAZon NEXT truck.
A little about the car itself. "GAZon NEXT" is a medium-duty truck with a classic layout with a total weight of 8.7 tons, capable of carrying up to 5 tons of payload. In the future, it will be possible to tow a trailer. This should further improve the efficiency of the medium-duty truck.
The fresh design clearly suits the Nizhny Novgorod medium-duty truck. The hood part and the tail organically fit into the GAZelle NEXT cabin. Spacious and comfortable, depending on the design (single or double row), it can accommodate from 3 to 7 people. Moreover, in the version with a two-row cabin, the rear sofa can be folded into a berth. The interior uses a modified instrument panel, unlike the GAZelle NEXT. The cabin suspension is made on rubber-metal hinges. A six-way adjustable sprung driver's seat with lumbar support is available. Steering - ZF. The steering column is height adjustable. Climate system - Delphi. The base model does not include heated seats, but it can be ordered. But heated rear-view mirrors, electric windows and cruise control are included in the basic package. A pre-heater is available as an option.
As has been the case more than once, it is replete with all sorts of niches and shelves, and there is also a cup holder. At the same time, shortcomings also migrated here. The left hand still instinctively tries to feel for the handrail, which is not there. The right is clearly not enough.
There are no special comments regarding ergonomics. All controls are at hand, readability of instrument readings is within normal limits. In my opinion, the clutch pedal is a little tight. The overall picture is also spoiled by the “poker” - the gear shift lever. Curved and massive, it brings disharmony. Despite the impressiveness of its size, the developers managed to achieve gear shifting that was reasonably clear, albeit with a slightly too large shift force.
By the way, it is worth noting one feature. In the neutral position, the gearbox lever is firmly in the center, which makes it easy to quickly engage the gear you need at the moment.
It was originally planned that a Cummins ISF 3.8 e4R diesel engine with a power of 152 hp would take place under the hood of the GAZon NEXT. With. However, subsequently preference was given to domestic development. The YaMZ-5344 engine with turbocharging and charge air cooler, with a liquid cooling system, has a high power reserve. A few words about the chassis. The frame allows, after appropriate modifications, to be used on more load-lifting modifications. Spring suspension: front - new reinforced leaf spring with rubber-metal hinges; rear - modernized. Anti-roll bars on both axles.

Once you get behind the wheel, you quickly get used to it, because everything is like in the GAZelle NEXT, adjusted for the external dimensions of the truck. It was not difficult to find a comfortable position in the driver's seat. A sufficient number of adjustments contributes to this as much as possible.
After the start, you immediately feel the high-torque power of the engine. A loaded car picks up speed quite quickly, and you can feel the power reserve. The pleasant rumbling of the engine only confirms the above. Engine braking left a pleasant impression.
The modification with a two-row cabin, designed for a maximum of 7 people, will be appreciated by customers from emergency services
After several laps along the snowy and sometimes icy track of the Nizhny Novgorod Ring, I realized that the car was “steering”, despite the fact that there was ballast in the form of a solid “armful” of logs behind me. Using the skills of counter-emergency preparation, it was possible to eliminate the skid without any problems both in a turn and when hitting bare ice. All this instilled confidence in the car, which, if necessary, would not fail.
Races in the dark confirmed the stated characteristics of the headlights. Low and high beam headlights provide the driver with a sufficient understanding of the road situation, depending on the circumstances.
As already noted in our publication, in 2014 the launch of the universal chassis “GAZon NEXT” began, both with a standard and extended wheelbase, with a loading height of 1300 mm (on 8.25R20 tires), as well as its version with a double-row cab. This year (presumably January-February) a modification for the city will appear - “GAZon NEXT City” with a loading height of 1170 mm (also two wheelbases and two cab options - 245/70R19.5).
In the future, a truck with a gross weight of up to 12 tons and a truck tractor with a total weight of a road train of up to 18 tons are expected to appear. The truck’s braking system allows similar modifications to be created on the basis of an existing vehicle.
It is planned to organize the production of a frame-panel bus at PAZ on the GAZON NEXT chassis. However, this work, like the work on the 12-tonne machine, is hampered by the lack of a reinforced rear axle. KAAZ has such a bridge, but it requires improvement in terms of reliability and service life.
In the engine compartment, the YaMZ-5344 turbocharged diesel power unit with a power of 149 hp took its regular place.
In 2015, an off-road version of Sadko NEXT will appear with a carrying capacity of 3 tons with two wheelbase options and two cab options.

It is assumed that in the future GAZon NEXT will replace GAZ's Valdai. However, this decision is still in question. The weak point of GAZON NEXT is its increased turning radius compared to Valdai (by about 1.5 meters). If this turns out to be the only obstacle on the way to the consumer, the developers of GAZon NEXT will review the front suspension in order to reduce the turning radius. At the same time, production of Valdai and GAZ-3307 will continue as long as there is a steady demand for them.
Well, in my opinion, after GAZelle NEXT, Nizhny Novgorod residents managed to create another successful product that should be appreciated by the consumer. But the last word still belongs to him.

The presence of an overhead console with built-in connection outputs allows you to freely place a tachograph or car radio. At the owner's request, additional door pockets can be installed. Improved lighting inside the double-row cabin and additional air circulation are provided by a sunroof above the second row of seats.
3. GAZon Next is available in the following three versions.

Sadko Next with a 4x4 wheel arrangement (all-wheel drive) with tube tires 12.00R18.
