History of the creation of the AKROS 530 combine harvester
is one of the few domestic manufacturers of agricultural machinery that, after a crushing blow during the collapse of the Soviet Union, not only survived, but was also able to continue its systematic development. First of all, to establish the production of new models of competitive equipment that meet modern requirements and economic realities.
One of these models was the “Acros-530” (project name “RSM-142”) - a representative of a new generation of high-performance grain harvesters, focused on the needs of large peasant farms with large areas of high-yielding fields.
On May 16, 2007, the first combines of this brand came off the assembly line, in the presence of the governor and other leaders of the region, solemnly consecrated and blessed by the Archbishop of Rostov and Novocherkassk Panteleimon. The first recipient of Akros, director of the Voskhod agricultural production company from the Krasnodar Territory, Nikolai Bukreev, did not hide his joy at the purchase.
In June 2007, after personal acquaintance with the Acros-530, V.V. Putin uttered a famous saying: “Such combines are no less important for Russia than missiles.” And three months later, harvester number 100 already left the factory gates. In the fall of the same year, the Acros-530 completely replaced its predecessor, the Don-1500, on the assembly line.
Vladimir Putin about the AKROS 530 combine: “I’ll be brief!” Below is Sergei Ivanov.
These solemn moments were preceded by three years of development, approvals, and testing of the new model. The chief engineer of the Acros-530 project, Vladimir Kulikov, noted that in creating this model, he and his colleagues relied both on the experience of developing and manufacturing the Don-1500 combine, and on advanced foreign analogues, in particular, the German one.
This was a truly large-scale project, in which Rostselmash invested more than 800 million rubles. During the development process, 11 new production sites were created and more than 60 units of modern high-performance equipment were purchased. Including laser cutting and bending complexes, semi-automatic welding machines, milling and lathes, hydraulic and eccentric presses and other modern equipment from world manufacturers. 26 experimental pre-production equipment underwent serious testing in different climatic zones of Russia.
“Acros-530” became the “first sign” of the company’s new model range. A qualitatively new family of combines aimed at increasing shift productivity and reducing the cost of bunker grain. And also providing the machine operator with unprecedentedly comfortable (for domestic equipment) working conditions.
Technical characteristics of the Acros-530 combine
The Acros-530 combine has a modern layout, like on Western equipment: a cabin in the middle; behind it is a bunker; the engine is at the rear. This significantly reduced the noise/vibration level in the cabin and provided a more spacious area for servicing the engine. The centrally located cabin provided an excellent overview of the entire work area.
"Acros-530" is a single-drum combine harvester. It is designed for direct and separate harvesting of all cereal crops. As well as corn and sunflower (if you install additional attachments: PSP-8/05 and PSP-10M, respectively).
The general technical characteristics of this agricultural machine are as follows:
- Overall dimensions: Length 10.5 m plus header 6 m; Width 3.85 m; height 4.01 m.
- Weight: (without header/with header): 13740 kg/15030 kg.
- Engine: diesel, turbocharged “YaMZ-236BK”.
- Threshing: Drum diameter – 80 cm; drum length – 150 cm; rotation speed – from 400 to 1045 rpm. Coverage angle – 130 degrees; concave area – 1.38 sq.m.

Engine of the AKROS 530 combine
The first of the Akros is equipped with a V-shaped 6-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine with turbocharging and liquid cooling. Brand – “YAMZ-236BK”; manufacturer - Yaroslavl Motor). The same motors were installed on the Yenisei-860 combines of the “dead to live” Krasnoyarsk Combine Harvester Plant.” Engine power – 250 horsepower (184 kW). Rotation speed – 2000 rpm. Minimum specific fuel consumption, g/kW·h (g/hp·h) – 215 (159). The weight of the YaMZ-236BK engine is 985 kg.

Specifically applied to the Acros-530 model, this motor has an additional power reserve of at least 50 “horses,” which reveals the potential of the combine and guarantees an appropriate increase in traction in any harvesting situation. The use of turbocharging coupled with a 240-liter fuel tank made it possible to increase the operating time of the combine without refueling to at least 12, and in fact – over 14 hours!
Reaping part of the Acros-530 combine
Simultaneously with the launch of Akros brand combine harvesters, Rostselmash mastered the production of completely new headers, called “Power Stream”. The working width of different versions of this unified attachment is 6.7 and 9 meters. Compared to previous Rostselmash headers, Power Streams have become significantly lighter and at the same time stronger.
The header is suspended frontally to the feeder chamber by means of hinges, and is equipped with an auger and a balancing mechanism; a system of automatic control of the ground relief in two directions (longitudinal and transverse) and a 5-bladed eccentric reel. The reel rotation speed is from 15 to 50 rpm.
The long fingers of the rake and the reel with a special trajectory of movement easily cope with curled and laid grains. The large diameter of the auger prevents winding of high-stemmed breads. Deep auger turns eliminate the need for additional fingers. The header provides a high-quality cut of raw materials at adjustable heights of 6, 10, 14 and 18 cm.
"Power Stream" accurately copies the longitudinal and transverse structure of the field, which allows you to use the entire working surface with maximum efficiency. A hydraulic drive is responsible for the operation of the reel. It makes the operation of the main components softer, which reduces wear of parts. To quickly clean the header, reverse is used. All control of the header (up and down movements, movement of the reel in vertical and horizontal planes, control of the rotation speed of the reel) is carried out using electro-hydraulic equipment. And to start absolutely all functions, the operator does not need to leave the cab. But I don’t want to leave her, and here’s why.
Structure of the Akros 550 grain harvester
The design of the combine is created in such a way as to combine maximum productivity and operating comfort. Most of the systems are controlled directly from the operator’s workplace - a comfortable cabin with climate control and protection from noise and vibration.
A host of additional accessories, such as halogen headlights for night illumination, are designed specifically to help you harvest your crops on time and ensure the highest quality. The main working part of the combine is the Power Stream header. The universal hydraulic drive connector allows you to choose any of the series with a working width of 6.7 or 9 meters. Its work is complemented by grain threshing and cleaning systems. The threshing system with a large drum, the diameter of which is 800 mm, provides high productivity even with wet raw materials. The cleaning system also gives excellent results due to the two-stage treatment obtained from the straw walker and concave material.
The capacity of the bunker is 9000 liters, but despite such a large volume, the combine is equipped with a high-performance elevator designed for shipping cleared grain.
Similar devices are also produced by foreign companies under the John Deere and New Holland brands.

When Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov and the then Minister of Agriculture Alexey Gordeev “accepted” the new Rostselmash agricultural machine, they called the Akros-530 cabin the control room of a spacecraft. Indeed, the working conditions of machine operators on domestic combines have never been so modern and comfortable. The Acros-530 cabin (Rostovites called it “Comfort Cab”) is fully two-seater, for the combine operator and the helmsman. It is sealed and reliably protected from noise, vibration and dust. Installed on a sprung base with four shock absorbers.

The standard package of the Acros-530 includes a cabin equipped with a luxury unheard of in the old days: climate control, a refrigerator for drinks, a radio with a sound system! For the first time in the history of domestic production, the combine cabin was equipped with an on-board computer with an “Adviser” voice warning system. The steering column is adjustable in height and tilt; panoramic glazing of 5 sq.m. allows you to clearly see the field, the stubble behind the header and the unloading auger.

The combine is equipped with wide Power Stream headers, designed specifically for use in difficult Russian conditions and on uneven ground. This allows crops to be cut as cleanly as possible. In terms of harvesting quality, only combine harvesters from the Holland and JohnDeere brands can compare with the Akros 550 equipment.
News here.
The machine is distinguished by a high level of equipment and ease of use. The combine cabin has a high degree of protection against vibration and noise. Ergonomics are worked out at the highest level, all components are located in the line of sight and adjusted to the operator. No additional training is required to operate the Acros 550.
Another advantage of the model is domestic production. Searching for components and elements for a combine when maintenance and repair is required takes a minimum of time, and the cost of parts is several times lower than that of foreign competitors. In addition, the equipment is adapted to harsh operating conditions.
Akros 550 combines are designed to perform various agricultural operations in any weather. All modifications are equipped with tires with herringbone treads, allowing you to move on off-road and broken ground. The technique is used to harvest grain crops. Together with additional adapters, it can be used for harvesting cereal crops, sunflower, rapeseed or corn.
Operating experience of "Acros-530": advantages and disadvantages
The peasants of Russia and other republics of the former Soviet Union highly appreciated the first of the Rostselmashev family “Akros”. First of all, in terms of the economic efficiency of its use. Acros-530 consumes much less fuel per ton of grain produced than any previous generation domestic combine. And this despite the fact that in terms of productivity it replaces two such combines at once.
"AKROS 530" in the field.
At Agrariy OJSC (Ryazan region, Sasovsky district), peasants were able to compare the Acros-530 with its closest competitor on the market - the Gomselmash combine harvester Polesie KZS-1218: in 2008, to replace the old Nivas, they purchased one Rostov and one Belarusian combine harvester. Based on the results of the 2009 harvest,
- Seasonal threshing amounted to: at Akros - 1639 tons; at Polesie - 1388 tons.
- Seasonal fuel consumption: “Acros-530” – 8050 tons; "Polesie KZS-1218" - 8330 tons.
- Average fuel consumption, liters per ton: on Akros - 4.9 l/t; at Polesie – 6 l/t.
The “appetite” of the engine of the Acros-530 combine is expressed in the following indicators: fuel consumption for grain crops - 10-12 liters of diesel fuel per hectare; on corn and sunflower – 15 liters per hectare. High-quality and clean harvesting of not only grains, but also sunflowers is noted: “The combine harvests very cleanly - not a speck. It’s a very clean seed – I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.” The new cabin received high praise. It is easy to establish a comfortable microclimate in it and work in one shirt both in the extreme summer heat and in the autumn season of sunflower harvesting, at sub-zero temperatures outside.

Among the shortcomings, the low quality of domestically produced bearings and drive belts that are equipped with the Acros-530 combine is noted. Bearings often do not withstand even one year of operation and fall apart. They are advised to replace them with imported ones.
Also, a lot of ridicule, and sometimes justified sharp criticism, is caused by “Americanisms” in the names of the components and systems of the combine: “Comfort Cab”, “Power Stream”, “Smart Launch”, “Adviser”, etc. After all, this is, by and large, equipment for the domestic market. And the countries to which it is exported are far from English-speaking: the former republics of the USSR. So why all this circus with “pseudo-imported” names, and why is the name of the combine even written in English letters?
Engine of the ACROS 550 combine
The Akros 550 combine harvester is equipped with an economical YaMZ 236BE engine producing 280 hp. Its 6-cylinder design has a power reserve of 20%, which gives excellent results in the most difficult areas. Also, this model of combine can be equipped with a foreign-made Cummins engine with similar power and torque indicators.

Prices for combine harvesters "AKROS 530"
Today, the official price list no longer includes new combine harvesters of the Acros-530 brand. Because this first model of the brand was replaced by others, even more modern and productive, with new, more powerful Akros engines, with digital indices “-550” and “-585”.
However, there is no shortage of supply of used Acros-530 combines on the secondary market. After all, over the past seasons since 2007, the model has been replicated in thousands and thousands of copies. Here, for example, are some of the sales offers:
- “year of manufacture 2008 , in excellent condition, no repairs required, header 6 meters with trolley, operating time about 2000 hours - 2,350,000 rubles .”;
- ““year of manufacture 2008 , in excellent condition, – 4,100,000 rubles , negotiable”;
- “ 2008 , excellent condition, serviced by a dealer, does not require investments, running time 2456 hours, includes grain header RSM-081.27, 7 m, 2015, price 3.1 million rubles .”
- “ 2007 model year, in good condition, 3200 operating hours, with a 7-meter header, RUB 2,100,000.
In general, it should be noted that the Acros-530 combine harvester has become one of the most successful models of agricultural machinery in the post-Soviet space. This combine marked the beginning of the goals of a series of new high-performance agricultural machines of the Rostov enterprise. In practice, it turned out to be no worse than its German “classmates”, which cost much more, and surpassed in all respects its approximately equal in price, also modern Belarusian competitor, the Polesie combine harvester.
