Peugeot and Citroen vans attack GAZelle

General information

Since the creators of Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat worked together to develop the truck, their design has a lot in common. The main difference between Peugeot lies in the functional features when compared with the developments presented by competitors. Despite the fact that the Peugeot van is a commercial vehicle, the truck will bring pleasure to everyone who decides to take advantage of the advantageous offer.

The car is available in such popular variants as:

  • Passenger minibus;
  • Utility minibus;
  • Cargo minibus;
  • Manufactured goods van;
  • Isothermal van;
  • Flatbed truck with awning.

Regardless of the modification, owners note the practical arrangement of the steering mechanism, seat, as well as steps and steering wheel. All this will ensure the maximum level of vehicle operation.

Among the modifications is a cargo-passenger van called Profi Transformer. Its distinctive feature is a more comfortable interior, which can be adapted for a cargo or passenger version, due to a mobile row of moving seats. The Tour Transformer is also produced; this modification is in demand among carriers of people on intercity routes.

I rode Expert and Jumper (of course, in turns) from Moscow to Vilnius. Here are the first impressions. The chairs look ordinary, they don’t hurt your back on a long journey. The 150-horsepower diesel engine pulls great. On the highway, the average fuel consumption was 4.6 liters per 100 km. True, there was no cargo in the car.

When maneuvering on the narrow streets of Vilnius, it is very convenient to use the washer, which replaces the automatic selector. I quickly engage reverse gear and switch to “drive.” With a conventional selector lever, this would take more time.

Brief overview of the vehicle

If we talk about the advantages of a commercial Peugeot, you can pay attention to the following details that were included in the design of the vehicle:

  1. Exterior mirrors , which are huge and consist of two sections. In addition, the cars are equipped with electric drives, which can be adjusted depending on the needs of each vehicle owner. This will allow you to build a view of the rear hemisphere, providing for these purposes a minimum number of blind spots that may arise while driving on the road surface;
  2. High level of equipment in the car cabin itself . As an example, the set of standard equipment also includes a uniquely designed “lectern” for placing papers directly on the central panel. On the move, the forwarder can work with documents not “on the go”, placing all the documents on his knee, but quite conveniently and practically work on a special stand, which will be very convenient and practical for any potential user of the vehicle;
  3. Large range of adjustment of the seat and steering wheel . In fact, in this indicator it is not inferior to any of the passenger vehicles, which made it the optimal means of transportation in all respects. It is worth noting that only the movement of the seat back between the cabin and the compartment in which the payload is located is limited. This indicator will be sufficient, given that the average height is 175 centimeters, there is enough space for any potential user;
  4. Good maneuverability. There is a comfortable and functional steering wheel, the control of which will not cause any problems. The reactive forces on the steering wheel are quite informative. The pedals are noted to be relatively soft, which is especially positive for moving in urban environments. The reaction of the next press will be quite predictable. This “logic” of control mechanisms allows the car to be operated very quickly, even by a driver who is driving it for the first time.

There are also several weaknesses to note:

  • Poorly designed parking brake . In order to free up space between the individual seats (on the right side of the cabin there is a fairly comfortable sofa designed for two people), the handbrake will need to be moved directly under the left hand. It is inconvenient to move it to the lower position. This will require a long period of time to get used to this arrangement of the element, and then only fully use it. An alternative option is to install an electric parking brake; it is quite convenient and has a relatively high cost.
  • Exhaust pipe design . It is located directly on the left side between the bottom. In terms of length, it can be seen just in the central part between the axes. This arrangement creates a peculiar danger that the exhaust element can cling to uneven surfaces on the road surface. If you have to drive your truck off-road or on poor surfaces, this may cause additional repair costs.

There are two diesel engines in the range of engines: the first is with a displacement of 1.6 liters (90 hp), the second is a two-liter with a capacity of 150 hp. The younger unit is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The older one has a choice of a six-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

For the first time on these models, the Grip Control system appeared. With its help, you can select the appropriate settings for the stabilization system for driving, for example on a dirt road. The system is familiar from many other models of the concern and in this case is available as an option. Unfortunately, the test machines did not have such a system.

Peugeot and Citroen vans attack GAZelle

Ford Transit

Among light commercial vehicles of European brands, Ford Transit has no competitors in terms of total cost of ownership, initial and residual price. These vans are the second most popular after GAZelle Next.

  • The total cost of ownership for 3 years is 1.68-1.69 million rubles.
  • The cost of ownership for 1 month is 46.7 - 47.1 thousand rubles.
  • The cost of 1 km is 14 rubles.
  • The initial cost is from 1.9 million rubles.
  • Service at dealership centers for 3 years - about 100 thousand rubles.

One of the main advantages of Transit is its high residual value after three years of operation. Even despite the high initial price, the investment in such a model pays off with a low cost of ownership and a small loss in resale value on the secondary market. An important factor in favor of choosing a Ford Transit can also be considered the relatively low cost of spare parts. Due to production in Russia, they are 1.2-1.5 times cheaper than spare parts for other European vans.

Peugeot Boxer, Fiat Ducato, Renault Master

In terms of cost of ownership, Peugeot Boxer and Fiat Ducato do not show the best results. Their maintenance can cost almost 2 million rubles over a three-year period. Even a Renault Master will cost the owner significantly less – approximately 1.83 million rubles over 3 years when purchasing a new car.

CarsTotal cost of ownership over 3 yearsCost of ownership for 1 monthCost of 1 km
Peugeot Boxerfrom 1.86 to 2.0 million rubles50-54 thousand rubles15.1-16.3 rubles
Fiat Ducatofrom 1.85 to 2.0 million rubles51-56 thousand rubles15.3-16.4 rubles
Renault Masterfrom 1.83 million rubles50-53 thousand rubles15.1-15.8 rubles

These models are inferior to other European vans due to the relatively high cost of spare parts, low popularity and, accordingly, a large loss in price over 3 years. It should be noted that the low popularity of French brands is traditional for the Russian market. Largely due to the poorly developed network of dealership centers throughout the country. However, when purchasing on the secondary market, the low price of these models can be an advantage for the buyer.
