In the late 1990s, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant developed the concept of a new minivan, called Simba. This car was created on the basis of the UAZ-3160 Simbir SUV, which, in turn, later formed the basis of the Patriot. A few years after the appearance of the first prototype, UAZ created the second version of Simba. Moreover, this time stylistic solutions were used, which were later implemented on the Patriot. However, the Russian minivan never went into mass production.

But UAZ, apparently, has not completely abandoned the idea of ​​​​creating its own competitor to the Volkswagen Multivan at a more affordable price. At least, on the official website of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant there is still an article dedicated to this minivan. Therefore, the domestic designer decided to “revive” the UAZ Simba by presenting it in render images.

Exterior and interior

It must be admitted that the bus looks very good from the outside. The front is impressive with a miniature hood, which is left almost no space for headlights and a radiator grille with wide slots. And the full face is complemented by round fog lights and an air intake.

In profile, one immediately notices the sharply but neatly inflated wings, as well as strict horizontal stampings extending along the entire length of the sidewall. At the rear, neat stops and reflectors in the bumper, as well as the spare wheel raised on the rear door, stand out.

In addition, the updated model has many improvements. In particular, the 2022 UAZ Bukhanka boasts new seats, improved vibration and noise insulation, original instrumentation, another heater located at the rear, new seat belts, wider seat adjustments and optimized ergonomics.

The engineers did not ignore the body itself, increasing rigidity by strengthening the brackets and frame.

The dashboard is distinguished by a button for activating the heated seats, an emergency warning button, a glove compartment, a shaft under the 1DIN radio and a socket.

Exterior

The body design does not shine with the beauty of the design solution, but is subordinated to the principle of functionality. Streamlining based on speed indicators, high ground clearance (0.3 m), reducing the likelihood of damage to lower components and parts when driving over bumps and holes.

The width of the windshield and side windows provides sufficient panoramic visibility while driving. Since the mid-70s, larger mirrors and new lighting equipment have been installed on doors.


UAZ-452

The sidelights have an orange section. The taillights took on a rectangular shape, which was also reflected in the shape of the rear body panels. Turn signal indicators appeared behind the front doors, on the left and right sides.

Door hinges are external and contain grease fittings. The front facing has a U-shaped cutout, above which is the UAZ emblem in the shape of a seagull. There is a towing hook installed under the bumper. In the side niche there is a neck for filling the tank with gasoline.

Body tuning

Changes in the appearance of the car begin with repainting the body. Repainting must take into account the original color. Painting it in camouflage color will not cause any difficulties.

To do this, you need masking tape and two aerosol cans of paint of the specified color. To prepare the body for painting you need :

  1. Dismantle the mounted body elements and carry out anti-corrosion treatment;
  2. Cover the glass with film or paper;
  3. Apply tape in accordance with the future paint contours.

First, paint is applied to indicate light spots, then dark ones. Then you can proceed to the installation of power-hungry elements: reinforced bumpers, a protective pipe arch, which is welded to the front bumper or made removable, a trunk and a winch. It is better to install the winch so that the traction force is at least five tons.

The final stage is the installation of additional lighting equipment. For example: halogen shockproof headlights are installed on the front bumper, work and high beam chandeliers are installed on the trunk.

Any changes that the design does not provide for require approval from the traffic inspectorate to eliminate possible problems.

Design

Visually, the UAZ Simba 2022 is similar to the pre-reform Volkswagen Multivan. In particular, both minivans are distinguished by an elongated, square-shaped body with a steep tail. But from the front, the Russian model looks like a Patriot.

The similarity with an SUV is emphasized by the characteristic head optics. Large headlights contain 2 round lights, next to which the direction indicators are located. A strip of LED DRLs stretches from below. The radiator grille also seems to have been borrowed from the Patriot, but its shape was slightly adjusted to fit the design features of the minivan.

The Simba's front bumper is unique, although it contains some elements that emphasize its “kinship” with an SUV. Most of it is occupied by a long air intake, which is “cut” in two by a thick strip. The developers placed compact fog lights on the sides of the air intake.

At the stern of Simba there are also optics from Patriot. But the rear bumper in this case is different from that installed on an SUV. The interior of both cars will probably also be unified. In this case, Simba will be larger than Patriot. Inside the minivan there will be at least 3 rows of seats.

Interior

You probably shouldn’t look for evidence of the comfort of this car’s interior. The car showroom is dominated by metal and leatherette. Inside the cabin, the protruding part of the engine reduces available space. The dashboard records the minimum necessary current technical information.

A stove air intake is built into it. A heating stove is installed under the panel, and warm air enters the cabin through an opening door. Insufficient heating in cold weather and lack of interior cooling in hot seasons, poor sound insulation are a consequence of design asceticism and the desire to reduce costs.

The first modifications of the UAZ-2206 were equipped with a four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 2.5 liters and a power of 55.9 kW. The car received some changes in 1990. At this time, engineers installed an improved carburetor engine on it. It had a volume of 2.9 liters and a power of 63.3 kW.

Thanks to such innovations, the traction qualities of the minibus have improved. But they did not affect the location of the engine, which remained longitudinal.

At the next stage of modernization, the UAZ-2206 was equipped with an injection internal combustion engine. Its power is 99 hp. s., which allowed the vehicle to reach a speed of 72.8 kW.

Let's sum it up

This vehicle is a good workhorse for everyday tasks. If desired and financially possible, it can be successfully modernized technically and externally. In this case, the “loaf” becomes a delight for lovers of hunting, fishing and travel, allowing you to get to hard-to-reach places.

The absence of scarce spare parts, fairly simple repairs and maintenance are the key to maintaining the machine in reliable condition.

Despite the fact that the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant recently updated the legendary “loaf”, it is clear that the car, created in the middle (!) of the last century, will eventually have to retire. At the same time, the company cannot afford to create a full-fledged successor, so it was decided to work on the development of a cargo version of the Patriot, called “Cargo”.

This is how the “Pro” model with a lifting capacity of 1.5 tons appeared - in early September the new product was presented at the Moscow exhibition “Comtrans”. It is assumed that the 6-meter truck should distract the public from the obsolete onboard “tadpoles”. But what can replace the “loaf” itself, that is, all-metal vans and minibuses?

The UAZ-2206 copes well with off-road conditions, which is its main advantage. But during the operation of the vehicle, many difficulties arise. To connect the front axle, you need to manually move special switches, which is very inconvenient.

Such shortcomings of the UAZ-2206 are compensated by its endurance, reliable frame structure, and all-metal body. Even if any breakdowns occur, it is not difficult to repair the minibus.
