Transmission

The fact is that the military mainly takes only “kapotniki”. After all, if a mine goes off under the front wheel of a truck with a hood, then the crew has a much better chance of surviving than in the case of a cabover. But for a civilian vehicle this is completely irrelevant, but better maneuverability and other advantages of the cabin over the engine will come in handy.

Instead of the old cabin, which first appeared on the Ural-375D model in the early sixties, the URAL-63685 is equipped with a completely new one. It is not the fruit of its own development - this unit is completely borrowed from the Italians from IVECO. There is no talk of any theft, everything is completely legal. After all, at one time IVECO and UralAZ collaborated closely and had a joint venture. But gradually the partnership faded away.

Instead of the “basic” false radiator grille, over time, our own “Ural” one became available for order. However, this option was not in demand, since plastic decor is of very little importance to customers.

The interior is well thought out. Both seats are manufactured by the famous company Pilot. The steering wheel is adjustable, and the rear-view mirrors are heated. And reviews of the Ural 63685 indicate that the standard heater can quickly provide a comfortable temperature, in addition, there is also “autonomy”.

There are also complaints. For example, various buttons with a total of about ten control various on-board systems. Instead of the front panel, these keys were placed on a raised platform on the central panel. Therefore, it is very uncomfortable to reach for them - you have to twist your hand.

Some modifications have a small sleeping area behind the cab. Dump trucks are almost never used for long-distance combat, but the driver can rest normally during the day's break in the shift.

Ural-63685 does not have an all-wheel drive system. This is a purely road car with a 6x4 wheel arrangement. However, there are still differential locks, there are three of them. The bridges come from China, they are manufactured by FAW and have performed well even in difficult operating conditions.

There is a protective bar installed on the left and right. Behind it are fuel tanks, batteries and brake cylinders. Behind the car is an underrun beam. It's mandatory now.

The standard equipment of the brake system, represented by drum mechanisms, includes:

Salon and cabin

The salon is quite utilitarian, however, it is not deprived of its advantages. The cabin is quite spacious and has a large glass area. The interior of the Urals is such that it is no longer possible to find uncovered “iron”; everything was closed, and the ceiling was covered with fabric material. The huge rear-view mirrors have an electric drive and a heating system, which is very useful, given that these cars are often used where the temperature drops very low, which increases comfort. To make work in winter more comfortable, and to ensure a confident start of the power unit, the standard equipment of the road dump truck has an autonomous heater system.

The driver's seat has a Pilot air suspension. Moreover, there is a mechanical adjustment of the steering column tilt. There is so much free space that it could be used to place auxiliary glove compartments and drawers for things. However, sadly, there is only one box, which, anyway, looks more decorative than actually practical.

There is a problem with ergonomics. The layout of the dashboard, if you can call it that, was not entirely successful. Although the analogue dials are easy to read, they are placed in a chaotic manner, which is a bit confusing. Similar shortcomings are observed with the switches of the vehicle’s on-board systems, which were placed in a high place between the seats. It seems that a more convenient place for them would be on the front panel, but here they could install, for example, a drawer for things. Generally speaking, the interior of the cabin looks spartan.

Although, when you look at it from the outside, you get the feeling that various changes have also taken place inside. The cabin has a fairly good stove, which in a short time can raise the temperature in the cabin to 18 degrees. All seats located inside can be adjusted in height. In addition to rear-view mirrors, there are also curb mirrors, which will allow you to carry out your work more accurately without possible problems.

Platform

  • The platform used to construct the car in question is all-metal.
  • That is why with its help you can transport even very large and heavy cargo without any difficulty - the strength of the sides is extremely high, they can withstand very high pressure.
  • The tailgate is hinged; if necessary, it can be opened for unloading either automatically or manually.

There are modifications from which unloading is carried out not only through the rear side, but also on the sides.

There are special locking mechanisms on each side of the platform. They can be opened either manually or remotely from the cab.
