The Liebherr 400 crane is equipped with a simple control panel and is distinguished by the accuracy of moving loads. This model is deservedly in demand in a variety of areas from construction to warehouses and industrial enterprises - with the help of a 400 ton Liebherr crane, building materials, large equipment, metal structural elements and other heavy loads are transported.
Review of Liebherr truck crane models
The line of self-propelled cranes of the German company is more than wide. It contains models for a variety of client needs. Some are relatively compact. Others, on the contrary, are real giants:
- LTC Series. Compact three-axle machine with a minimum turning radius. This quality is achieved thanks to the rotating first and third axes. Liebherr positions these truck cranes as ideal for working in tight spaces, for example, on a factory floor. The chassis is its own, the cabin is single. The lifting capacity of the only modification 1050-3.1 is 50 tons.
- LTM Series. Truck cranes with axles from two to nine. Load capacities range from 35 to an incredible 1,200 tons. The largest of them - Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 - at the time of its display to the public (2007) had the largest power and boom length in its class (100 m without jib).
- LTF series. Based on standard automobile chassis of European manufacturers, at the customer's choice (for example, Scania), which can significantly reduce operating costs. The carrying capacity of a four-axle vehicle is 45 or 60 tons.
- LRT series. Includes two modifications for 90 and 100 tons. The main feature is its high cross-country ability. This quality is facilitated, among other things, by tires with developed lugs. In addition, both axles can be rotated, so the crane can have excellent maneuverability.
- LG series. The lattice boom structure, provided by the LR 750 crawler crane, is mounted on a wheeled chassis with eight axles. This is how the LG 1750 wheeled crane turned out, which can carry up to 750 tons with a boom reach of 7 meters.

Even those who are far from the construction industry and are simply interested in technology can spend hours admiring photographs and videos of these beautiful German machines. Of particular interest, of course, are the larger self-propelled cranes, primarily the huge LTM 11200-9.1.
Characteristics
The main parameters for mobile cranes are maximum lifting capacity and maximum boom radius. They cannot be achieved simultaneously, since the crane can lift and carry a lot of cargo only with a short reach (usually up to several meters).
In addition, engine characteristics are important - displacement, maximum power and torque. And if “modest” self-propelled cranes have one motor, then larger vehicles are equipped with a separate diesel engine specifically to drive the crane equipment. For example, the main engine on a 750-tonne crane is an eight-cylinder with an output of 505 kW (686 hp). And the crane unit is powered by a more modest six-cylinder diesel engine with a power of only 300 kW (408 hp). Both are of their own production, although Liebherr also cooperates in this area with Mercedes-Benz.
Such equipment, as a rule, is not sold at dealer sites - the order is placed and carried out individually, depending on the requirements of a particular customer. But you can focus on the price of used equipment. For example, a compact 55-ton Liebherr LTC-1055 - 3.1 from 2009 will cost 20.5 million rubles. A four-axle 100-ton Liebherr LTM 1100-4.2, 2006, costs about 66 million rubles with all taxes. And for the giant Liebherr LTM 11200 - 9.1 of the same 2016 release they are already asking 335 million rubles with delivery by sea to Russia, but excluding customs duties.
Liebherr on wheels
Mobile cranes are equipped with a telescopic boom, including the super-strong 9-axle LTM 11200-9.1, nicknamed Mammoth. Wheeled cranes are labeled LTM. The chassis are equipped with Daimler-Benz power units or Liebherr's own engines. Telescopic working bodies allow you to work in cramped conditions, increase maneuverability when lifting and simplify control. Let's consider the main technical indicators of wheeled vehicles:
- The range of 40-ton machines is presented in three types: LTM 1030-2.1, 1040-2.1 and 1045-3.1. The differences between them lie in the load capacity and length of the working body: with a reach of 3 m, the load capacity is 35, 40 and 45 m, the lifting height is 30, 35 and 48 m, respectively. Models are equipped with jibs and extensions that allow the boom to be extended up to 16 m.
- LTM 1050-3.1 and 1055-3.1 are representatives of 50-ton models. The first model is capable of lifting a load weighing 50 tons when extending a boom 3 m long to a height of 38 m, the second - 55 tons when extending the boom 2.5 m and a height of 40 m. Jib - 16 m.
- LTM 1070-4.1 on an all-terrain chassis develops a load capacity of 70 tons with an outreach of 2.5 m. The length of the boom is 50 m, the jib is up to 16 m.
- 100-ton machines are the most numerous LTM family. The Liebherr 100 ton truck crane is available in the following modifications: 1090-4.1 (lifts 90 tons when extended by 2.5 m, lifting height 50 m), 1095-5.1 (lifts 95 tons when extended by 2.5 m, lifting height 58 m) , 1100-4.1 (lifts 100 t when extended by 2.5 m, lifting height 52 m), 1100-5.2 (lifts 100 t when extended by 2.7 m, lifting height 52 m), 1130-5.1 (lifts 130 t when extended by 3 m, lifting height 60 m), 1160-5.1 (lifts 160 t when extended by 3 m, lifting height 62 m). The number 4 in the model index means a 4-axle chassis, 5 means a 5-axle. Depending on the specific model, the machines are equipped with sliding jib arms, increasing the length of the working body to 26, 33 and 43 m. The Liebherr LTM 1100-4.1 truck crane is equipped with a forced control mechanism for the rear axle of the chassis.
- LTM machines with a lifting capacity of 200 tons are available in three varieties: 1200-5.1 (lifts 200 tons with a reach of 3 m and a lifting height of 72 m), 1220-5.2 (lifts 220 tons with a reach of 3 m and a lift height of 60 m), 1250-6.1 (lifts 250 t with a boom length of 3 m and a lifting height of 72 m). Jib arms – up to 43 m, for the latest model – up to 70 m. LTM 1300-6.1 lifts 300 t with a reach of 3 m, the working body extends up to 60 m. The extension adds up to 70 m.
- LTM 1400-7.1 handles loads of up to 400 tons with an extension of 3 m. The length of the boom is 60 m, the length of the extension is up to 84 m.
- The LTM 1500-8.1 is equipped with a boom with a lift of up to 84 m, a maximum lifting capacity of 500 t with an extension of 3 m, and a jib length of up to 91 m.
About the manufacturer
In 1949, Swiss engineer Hans Liebherr headed his parents' construction company in Germany.
In the post-war years, the country was sorely short of equipment for housing construction, then Hans and a group of designers created their first quickly erected slewing tower crane.
At the same time, Liebherr founded a machine-building plant in the German city of Kirchdorf an der Iller for serial production of these machines.
This is how the Liebherr family business was born. Gradually mastering different areas of industry, the company built more and more factories and representative offices around the world, today there are already more than 130 of them.
In 2011, a plant was launched in Russia in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

Review of Liebherr tower crane models
Liebherr is the world's largest supplier of tower cranes. The largest construction projects in the world trust this company. In particular, 55 such cranes were used at once for the construction of Istanbul Airport. The line includes dozens of different models. For example, the Liebherr single tower crane, due to its low height, is more suitable for working under high-voltage lines and in intersecting work areas. Liebherr track loaders. More than just an alternative

Tracked loaders are practically little known in Russia, although approximately 2,000 of these machines are sold annually throughout the world. The main markets for track loaders are the USA, central and southern Europe. They are widely used in construction, and in Russia their use is limited to the forestry, oil and gas and mining industries.
Track loaders were one of the defining machines on construction sites until the mid-1970s and were used to solve a wide variety of tasks. This was primarily due to the fact that consumers were more interested in the versatility of using equipment in various conditions: bulldozing, leveling, loading work, excavation, uprooting, soil filling. Tracked loaders meet these requirements, since they have high cross-country ability, they are distinguished by great maneuverability, develop a large pressure force and can be used as a tractor for vibratory rollers, compactors, and on the boom they can be installed with a grade master, a crusher and other equipment, load forks, jaw grip for assortment, etc.
Previously, most track loaders were built on industrial track-type tractor chassis, with a front-mounted engine and a rear-mounted operator's cab. Liebherr was among the first to reconsider the traditional approach to forklift design.

Liebherr designers were among the first to draw attention to the fact that the ideology of designing an industrial tractor or bulldozer is completely unsuitable for industrial tracked loaders. Firstly, it is important for the operator to see the front end and last but not least the rear, as the loader rarely operates with ripper equipment. Secondly, the use of power is necessary to drive the working parts, and not the chassis. Although loading into the bucket is carried out under the pressure of the chassis, the main power is needed to create the maximum force for tearing off the edge of the bucket, simultaneous lifting and unloading of the bucket. This speeds up loading and reduces cycle times. Thirdly, the greatest impact in loaders is achieved through the use of a Z-shaped lever system (instead of a parallelogram), which allows for high material tearing force by the bucket, reduces the number of lubrication points and ensures quick tipping of the bucket when unloading. These basic principles form the basis for the concept of all modern Liebherr tracked loaders.
The designers' conclusions made it possible to design track-type loaders with the engine located at the rear of the machine. This solution made it possible to increase visibility from the operator’s seat and reduce the operating weight of the machine (the engine is used as a counterweight). A good weight-to-power ratio while maintaining load-carrying characteristics made it possible to use less powerful, fuel-efficient engines.

Among the other advantages of this layout, we note the radiator, located in the least dusty area, and loading equipment with Z-shaped kinematics, which is difficult to use with a front-engine layout. However, that's not all.
To improve performance, loaders use a hydrostatic transmission. A track loader is characterized by frequent maneuvering and changing direction, which means that the transmission, steering friction clutches, brakes and track are subject to high loads. The main advantage of hydrostatic transmission has made it possible to reduce operating costs, increase power availability and reduce downtime due to equipment breakdowns, since there are no wear parts such as friction clutches and brakes, and changing the direction and braking of one “side” is carried out by changing the flow of hydraulic fluid in the drive of one of the caterpillars In addition, to perform some types of work (for example, at landfills for solid waste, excavation and development of sticky soils and soils with reduced bearing capacity) a smooth increase in power is required, which mechanical gearboxes cannot provide.

New technical solutions have created a generation of track loaders with excellent visibility, easy operation, reduced operating weight, high traction, cutting force and high tipping loads.
Currently in the Liebherr production program there are two basic models - LR 622 B and LR 632 B. They are produced in various equipment and configuration options: swamp, for work in sanitary landfills, in the forestry and mining industries, in construction and industrial versions. In addition to standard buckets with a capacity of 1.75...2.1 m3, all loaders are equipped with universal double-jaw buckets, which consist of a bucket and a blade segment that can be opened and closed. Referred to as a four-in-one, these buckets can be used as a bucket, dozer, scraper or double-jaw clamshell bucket. The main technical parameters are given in the table, although it should be said right away that the weight and size indicators and dimensions of the tracks may vary.
The Liebherr LR 622 B and LR 632 B models are optionally equipped with three-post picks, providing a depth of 352 and 385 mm, respectively. The distance between the ripper teeth is 850 and 900 mm. The loader cabin is ROPS/FOPS compliant as standard, although an open cabin with ROPS protection (for mining and forestry) is available as an option.

Liebherr equips its loaders with diesel engines of its own production: LR 622 B – 132-horsepower (at 2000 rpm) 6.7-liter in-line four D 924 TE; heavier models LR 632 B and LR 632 BM - six-cylinder 10-liter diesel engines D 926 TI-E with a power of 180 hp. at 1800 min-1. Both engines are specially designed for harsh machine operating conditions; They are distinguished by increased engine life, equipped with turbocharging and intercooler. The hydraulic drive allows you to smoothly change the rotation speed of the radiator fan depending on the engine load. The dual-range hydrostatic transmission allows you to continuously increase speed from 0 to 6.5 km/h in 1st gear and from 0 to 11 km/h in 2nd gear. Automatic speed control eliminates control errors due to overload. Control is carried out using a joystick, which reduces the load on the operator and allows him to concentrate on work. Control of all the most important functions of the machine and protection of units from overloads is carried out by the proprietary Litronic control system.
Liebherr LR 632 B track loaders are widely used in tunnel construction and underground mining. These modifications are equipped with an exhaust gas afterburning system and a special protected cabin. To operate in low ambient temperatures, Liebherr track loaders can be equipped with an Arctic package, which includes a thermal insulation kit, thermostatic fan control, engine auxiliary heater, pre-heater and cold-resistant rubber products. In addition, there are modifications for work in landfills (with a bucket of increased capacity), swamps (wide tracks), construction, forestry and metallurgical industries.
Notes on Capacity Tables
- Load capacity tables are calculated according to EN 13000.
- When calculating load capacity tables, a minimum wind speed of 9 m/s (33 km/h) and windage (wind area) of the load of 1 sq. were accepted. m per ton of lifted cargo and the coefficient of air resistance of the cargo is 1.2. When lifting loads with a larger windage and/or a high air resistance coefficient, it is necessary to reduce the maximum wind speed indicated in the lifting capacity tables.
- Load capacities are given in tons.
- The weight of the load hook and/or hook hanger is part of the load and must therefore be deducted from the load capacity.
- Reach is measured from the center of rotation.
- The lifting capacity for the telescopic boom is valid when the folding extension is removed.
- It is possible to change the load capacity values.
- Lifting capacities above 82.6 t/97.7 t are only possible with an additional hook holder/rope block.
